| 1 | Anisotropic coding metamaterials and their powerful manipulation of differently polarized terahertz waves显示文摘Metamaterials based on effective media can be used to produce a number of unusual physical properties(for example,negative refraction and invisibility cloaking)because they can be tailored with effective medium parameters that do not occur in nature.Recently,the use of coding metamaterials has been suggested for the control of electromagnetic waves through the design of coding sequences using digital elements‘0’and‘1,'which possess opposite phase responses.Here we propose the concept of an anisotropic coding metamaterial in which the coding behaviors in different directions are dependent on the polarization status of the electromagnetic waves.We experimentally demonstrate an ultrathin and flexible polarization-controlled anisotropic coding metasurface that functions in the terahertz regime using specially designed coding elements.By encoding the elements with elaborately designed coding sequences(both 1-bit and 2-bit sequences),the x-and y-polarized waves can be anomalously reflected or independently diffused in three dimensions.The simulated far-field scattering patterns and near-field distributions are presented to illustrate the dual-functional performance of the encoded metasurface,and the results are consistent with the measured results.We further demonstrate the ability of the anisotropic coding metasurfaces to generate a beam splitter and realize simultaneous anomalous reflections and polarization conversions,thus providing powerful control of differently polarized electromagnetic waves.The proposed method enables versatile beam behaviors under orthogonal polarizations using a single metasurface and has the potential for use in the development of interesting terahertz devices. | Shuo Liu Tie Jun Cui Quan Xu Di Bao Liangliang Du Xiang Wan Wen Xuan Tang Chunmei Ouyang Xiao Yang Zhou Hao Yuan Hui Feng Ma Wei Xiang Jiang Jiaguang Han Weili Zhang Qiang Cheng | 2016 | Light(Science & Applications)2016,5,1: | 36 |

| 4 | Esophageal mesenchymal tumors:Endoscopy,pathology and immunohistochemistry显示文摘AIM: To study the endoscopic, pathological and immuno-histochemical features of esophageal mesenchymal tumors. METHODS: Twenty-nine patients diagnosed as esophageal mysenchymal tumors by electronic endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) were observed under light microscopes, and all tissues were stained by the immunohistochemical method. The expression of CD117, CD34, SMA and desmin were measured by staining intensity of cells and positive cell ratios. RESULTS: Endoscopically, esophageal gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) and leiomyomas (LMs) had similar appearances, showing submucosal protuberant lesions. They all showed low echo images originated from the muscularis propria or muscularis mucosa on EUS. Endoscopy and EUS could not exactly differentiate esophageal GISTs from LMs. Microscopically, there were two kinds of cells: spindle cell type and epitheloid cell type in esophageal GISTs. Leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas were only of spindle cell type. One malignancy was found in five cases of esophageal GISTs, and one malignancy in 24 cases of leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas. Using Fisher’s exact method, the differences of malignant lesion proportion were not significant between esophageal LMs and GISTs, 1/5 vs 1/24 (P > 0.05). All cases of esophageal GISTs were positive for CD117, and 3 cases were also positive for CD34. The 24 cases of leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas were all negative for CD117 and CD34. The differences of positive rates of CD117 and CD34 were significant between esophageal GISTs and LMs, 5/5 vs 0/24, 3/5 vs 0/24 (P < 0.005). All leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas were positive for SMA, and desmin. Among 5 cases of esophageal GISTs, 2 cases were SMA positive, and 1 case was desmin positive. The differences in positive rates and expression intensity of SMA and desmin were significant between esophageal LMs and GISTs, 24/24 vs 2/5, 24/24 vs 1/5 (P < 0.005). CONCLUSION: The most common esophageal mesenchymal tumors are leiomyomas, and esophageal GISTs are less common. Most of esophageal LMs and GISTs are benign. Endoscopy and EUS are the effective methods to diagnose esophageal mesenchymal tumors and they can provide useful information for the treatment of these tumors. | 7 | Effects of Angelica dahurica on obesity and fatty liver in mice显示文摘Angelica dahurica(A. dahurica) is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant being used in clinical practice. The present study demonstrated that A. dahurica could reduce white-fat weight in high-fat-diet hyperlipidemic mice, decrease total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations in the livers of both high-fat-diet and Triton WR1339 induced hyperlipidemic mice, and enhance the total hepatic lipase activities of them. These findings were further supported by the results derived from the experiments with Hep G2 cells in vitro. In addition, the proteins related to lipids metabolism were investigated using LC-MS/MS, indicating that genes of lipid metabolism and lipid transport were regulated by A. dhurica. The results from LC-MS/MS were further conformed by Western blot and real time PCR assays. A. dahurica could down-regulate the expression of catalase(CAT) and sterol carrier protein2(SCP2) and up-regulate the expression of lipid metabolism related genes-lipase member C(LIPC) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma(PPARγ). In the Triton WR1339 mouse liver and Hep G2 cells in vitro, A. dahurica was able to increase the expression of LIPC and PPARγ, confirming the results from in vivo experiments. Imperatorin showed the same activity as A. dahurica, suggesting it was one of the major active ingredients of the herb. However,genetic variations underlying the divergence of these ecotypes are largely unknown. Here,we report the global pattern of genetic polymorphisms in rapeseed determined by resequencing a worldwide collection of 991 germplasm accessions.A total of 5.56 and 5.53 million singlenucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)as Well as 1.86 and 1.92 million InDels were identified by mapping reads to the reference genomes of 'Darmor-bzh'and 'Tapidor,'respectively.We generated a map of allelic drift paths that shows splits and mixtures of the main populations,and revealed an asymmetric evolution of the two subgenomes of B.napus by calculating the genetic diversity and linkage disequilibrium parameters.Selective-sweep analysis revealed genetic changes in genes orthologous to those regulating various aspects of plant development and response to stresses.A genome-wide association study identified SNPs in the promoter regions of FLOWERING LOCUS T and FLOWERING LOCUS C orthologs that corresponded to the different rapeseed ecotype groups. | 11 | Physicians’Perception of Palliative Care Consultation Service in a Major General Hospital in China显示文摘Objectives The in-hosptial palliative care consultation(PCC)is emerging as a routine service in some medical center in China.The current study evaluated how physicians in primary care team and consultation team perceive the PCC service for the purpose of investigating the effectiveness of this consultation model in a general hospital.Methods In-hosptial palliative care consultations have been carried out at Peking Union Medical College Hosptial by a dedicated consultation team,and37consultations were completed in2016.A questionnaire was designed for physicians in terms of its benefits to patients,their family as well as the primary care team.Physicians who applied for consultation in2016formally(requested from the department other than the Geriatrics)and informally(by rotating residents and unemployed visiting doctors in geriatric department)were invited to participate in the survey by scanning a two dimentional code on social networking platform.Results There were103physicians participated in the survey,including primary care physicians from the department of Internal Medicine(n=8),Gynaecology(n=16)and Surgery(n=13),rotating residents(n=30),visiting doctors(n=16)in Geriatric department,and PCC team members(n=20).94.0%of the non-PCC physicians agreed that PCC relieved the suffering of patients;89.2%thought PCC improved the quality of patients'life;there were91.6%,95.2%,90.4%physicians who felt it relieved the anxiety of patients,of family members and of care providers,respectively.There were96.4%physicians who felt it could ease the tension in physician-patient relationship;97.6%felt it lower the risk for medical negligence,and96.4%of doctors who applied for PPC felt satisfied with PCC service in terms of process and achieving objectives of consultation.More primary-team physician agree'PCC service helps the physicians better understand palliative care'than PCC members(97.6%vs.80%,P<0.05),while both were interested in learning more on palliative medicine(100%vs.96.4%,P>0.05). | Xuan Qu Nan Jiang Nan Ge Xiaohong Ning | 2018 | Chinese Medical Sciences Journal2018,33,4: | 9 |
| 12 | Value of endoscopic methylene blue and Lugol's iodine double staining and detection of GST-n and telomerase in the early diagnosis of esophageal carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To explore the expressions of GST-n and telomerase activity in esophageal carcinoma and premalignant lesions and to investigate the value of endoscopic methylene blue(MB) and Lugol's iodine double staining.METHODS: Seventy-two patients with esophagopathy were sprayed endoscopically with MB and Lugol's iodine in proper order and the areas stained blue and brown,and the area between the blue and brown stains were obtained. Depending on the pattern of mucosal staining,biopsy specimen was obtained. GST-n and telomerase activity in specimens were examined by immunohistochemistry and PCR-based silver staining telomeric repeat amplification protocol, respectively.RESULTS: After MB and Lugol's iodine staining, the area between both the colors was obtained in 64 of the 72patients and the areas were stained blue and brown in all of the 72 patients. Association test of two simultaneous ordinal categorical data showed a correlation between the esophageal mucosal staining and the esophageal histology(P<0.005). The expression of GST-n and telomerase activity in esophageal carcinoma and premalignant lesions increased. The expression of GST-n and telomerase activity in dysplasia and carcinoma was significantly higher than that in normal epithelium (P<0.005). The expression in hyperplasia was slightly higher than that in normal epithelium.With the lesions progressing from low- to moderate- to high-grade dysplasia, the positive rate increased (P<0.025).Expression of GST-n was correlated with that of telomerase activity in dysplasia and carcinoma ((ψ) = 0.4831, P<0.005;(ψ) = 0.3031, P<0.025, respectively); but there was no correlation between them in normal epithelium and hyperplasia.CONCLUSION: The expression of GST-n and telomerase may be an early event in the carcinogenesis of esophagus.They may play an induced and synergistic role with each other in the carcinogenesis of esophagus. | 14 | Clinical and genetic findings in a Chinese family with VDR-associated hereditary vitamin D-resistant rickets显示文摘Hereditary vitamin D-resistant rickets(HVDRR) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by severe rickets,hypocalcemia,hypophosphatemia,secondary hyperparathyroidism,and elevated alkaline phosphatase.This disorder is caused by homogeneous or heterogeneous mutations affecting the function of the vitamin D receptor(VDR),which lead to complete or partial target organ resistance to the action of 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D.A non-consanguineous family of Chinese Han origin with one affected individual demonstrating HVDRR was recruited,with the proband evaluated clinically,biochemically and radiographically.To identify the presence of mutations in the VDR gene,all the exons and exon–intron junctions of the VDR gene from all family members were amplified using PCR and sequenced.The proband showed rickets,progressive alopecia,hypocalcemia,hypophosphatemia,secondary hyperparathyroidism,and elevated alkaline phosphatase.She also suffered from epilepsy,which is rarely seen in patients with HVDRR.Direct sequencing analysis revealed a homozygous missense mutation c.122G4A(p.C41Y) in the VDR gene of the proband,which is located in the first zinc finger of the DNA-binding domain.Both parents had a normal phenotype and were found to be heterozygous for this mutation.We report a Chinese Han family with one individual affected with HVDRR.A homozygous missense mutation c.122G4A(p.C41Y) in the VDR gene was found to be responsible for the patient's syndrome.In contrast to the results of treatment of HVDRR in other patients,our patient responded well to a supplement of oral calcium and a low dose of calcitriol. | Qianqian Pang Xuan Qi Yan Jiang Ou Wang Mei Li Xiaoping Xing Jin Dong Weibo Xia | 2016 | Bone Research2016,4,1: | 9 |

| 17 | Specific HLA-DQB1 alleles associated with risk for development of hepatocellular carcinoma:A meta-analysis显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the association of human leukocyte antigen(HLA)-DQB1 alleles with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) through meta-analysis of published data.METHODS:Case-control studies on HLA-DQB1 allele association with HCC published up to January 2010 were included in the analyses.The odds ratios(ORs) of HLADQB1 allele distributions in HCC patients were analyzed and compared with healthy controls.The meta-analysis software REVMAN 5.0 was applied for investigating heterogeneity among individual studies and for summarizing all the studies.A meta-analysis was performed using fixed-effect or random-effect methods,depending on the absence or presence of significant heterogeneity.Seven case-control studies containing 398 cases and 594 controls were included in the final analysis.RESULTS:Among the five family alleles,two(DQB1*02 and DQB1*03) were found to be significantly associated with the risk of HCC.The combined OR for the association of DQB1*02 and DQB1*03 allele with the risk for HCC was 1.78(95% CI:1.05-3.03,P = 0.03) and 0.65(95% CI:0.48-0.89,P = 0.007),respectively.Among the 13 specific alleles,two(DQB1*0502 and DQB1*0602) were significantly associated with risk of HCC.The combined OR for the association of DQB1*0502 and DQB1*0602 allele with the risk for HCC was 1.82(95% CI:1.14-2.92,P = 0.01) and 0.58(95% CI:0.36-0.95,P = 0.03),respectively.No significant association was established for other HLA-DQB1 family alleles and specific alleles.CONCLUSION:Our results support the hypothesis that specific HLA-DQB1 allele families and alleles might influence the susceptibility or resistance to HCC,although it needs further investigations. | Yong-Ning Xin Zhong-Hua Lin Xiang-Jun Jiang Shu-Hui Zhan Quan-Jiang Dong Qing Wang Shi-Ying Xuan | 2011 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,17: | 8 |

| 19 | Effect of particle gradation of aluminum on the explosion field pressure and temperature of RDX-based explosives in vacuum and air atmosphere显示文摘To optimize the energy output and improve the energy utilization efficiency of an aluminized explosive,an explosion device was developed and used to investigate the detonation pressure and temperature of R1(A16)aluminum powder and the aluminum powder particle gradation of R2(Al6+Al13),R3(Al6+Al24)and R4(Al6+AI flake)in a confined space.By using gas chromatography,quantitative analysis and calculations were carried out to analyze the gaseous detonation products.Finally,the reaction ratios of the aluminum powder and the explosion reaction equations were calculated.The results show that in a confined space,the quasi-static pressures and equilibrium temperature of the aluminum powder in air are higher than in vacuum.In vacuum,the quasi-static pressures and equilibrium temperatures of the samples in descending order are R1>R3>R4>R2 and R3>R4>R1>R2,respectively.In air,the quasi-static pressures and equilibrium telperatures of the samples in descending order are R1>R2>R4>R3 and R1>R4>R2>R3,respectively.R4(Al6+AI flake)and R3(Al6+A124)have relatively higher temperatures after detonation,which shows that the particle gradation method can enhance the reaction energy output of aluminum during the initial reaction stage of the explosion and increase the reaction ratio by10.6%and 8.0%,respectively.In air,the reaction ratio of AI6 aluminum powder can reach as high as 78.16%,and the reaction ratio is slightly reduced after particle gradation.Finally,the reaction equations of the explosives in vacuum and in air were calculated by quantitative analysis of the explosion products,which provides a powerful basis for the study of RDX-based explosive reactions. | Fan Jiang Xiao-feng Wang Ya-feng Huang Bo Feng Xuan Tian Yu-lei Niu Kun Zhang | 2019 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2019,15,6: | 8 |
| 20 | Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome.
