| 1 | Seroepidemiological Investigation of Lyme Disease and Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis among People Living in Forest Areas of Eight Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Lyme disease and Human granulocytic anaplasmosis are tick‐borne diseases caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum respectively. We have investigated infection and co-infection of the two diseases in the population of forest areas of eight provinces in China by measuring seroprevalence of antibodies against B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum. Methods Forest areas in 8 provinces were chosen for investigation using whole sampling and questionnaire survey methods. 3 669 serum samples from people in the forest areas were tested for the presence of antibodies by indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA). Results Seroprevalence against B. burgdorferi was 3% to 15% and against A. phagocytophilum was 2% to 18% in the study sites in the 8 provinces in China. We also found co-infection of B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum in 7 of the 8 provinces (the exception being the Miyun area in Beijing). The seroprevalence for both B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum was significantly higher among people exposed to ticks than among people who were not exposed to ticks. | 2 | Clinical evaluation of surgery-induced astigmatism in cataract surgery using 2.2 mm or 1.8 mm clear corneal micro-incisions显示文摘● AIM: To evaluate corneal astigmatism after phacoemulsification using 2.2 mm or 1.8 mm clear corneal micro-incisions and its effects on visual function.● METHODS: Sixty cases(60 eyes) with cataract were randomly divided into groups A(n=30) and B(n=30) respectively underwent 2.2 mm and 1.8 mm clear corneal tunnel incision phacoemulsification combined with folding intraocular lens implantation from the time direction of 11:00. On day 1 and at 1, 4, and 6wk after operation, patients' vision was measured and both the corneal curvature and corneal thickness(CT) were recorded using Pentacam. ● RESULTS: The measured surgery-induced astigmatism(SIA) in both groups A and B peaked on day 1 after operation, and then gradually decreased and eventually stabilized in week 4. No statistically significant difference was found in corneal astigmatism between two groups(P>0.05). The measured corneal astigmatism at 4wk and 6wk postoperatively were 0.28±0.09 D and 0.27±0.10 D for groups A and 0.27±0.09 D and 0.25±0.10 D for groups B without statistically significant difference(P>0.05). In addition, no significant differences in visual acuity and CT were found between groups A and B before or after operation.● CONCLUSION: Both 2.2 mm and 1.8 mm micro-incision cataract surgeries result in relatively small SIA with no difference in visual function and corneal astigmatism between two surgery approaches. | 6 | Optimal Waist Circumference Cut-off values for Identifying Metabolic Risk Factors in Middle-aged and Elderly Subjects in Shandong Province of China显示文摘Objective To study the optimal waist circumference(WC) cut-off values for identifying metabolic risk factors in middle-aged and elderly subjects in Shandong Province of China. Methods A total of 2 873 men and 5 559 women were included in this cross-sectional study. Metabolic syndrome(MetS) was diagnosed according to the definition of Chinese Diabetes Society in 2004. The relation between WC and MetS was analyzed by multivariate logistic regression analysis. The optimal WC cut-off values were identified using the area under the ROC curve and the different diagnostic criteria for central obesity were compared. Results The WC was the risk factor for MetS independent of BMI, blood glucose, blood lipid, and blood pressure. The optimal WC cut-off value was 83.8 cm and 91.1 cm for identifying MetS in women and men, respectively. Compared with 80 cm and 85 cm for women and men, 85 cm and 90 cm had a higher Youden index for identifying all metabolic risk factors and MetS in women and men. | 8 | Gastric carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells:a case report and review of the literature显示文摘Gastric carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells(OGCs) is an extremely rare tumor. So far,only six cases have been reported in the literature. Here we report an additional case of this tumor in a Chinese 78-year-old man presented with abdominal pain,vomiting,and hematemesis. Physical examination and gastroscopy revealed a tumor in the gastric antrum. The biopsy and pathological findings indicated a gastric adenocarcinoma with OGCs,which were present in both the tumor and the metastatic lymph nodes. Further immunohistochemical staining indicated that OGCs were reactive with CD68,CD45,and vimentin protein,but not with pancytokeratin,carcinoembryonic antigen,or epithelial membrane antigen,suggesting the monocytic/histiocytic derivation of these OGCs. In situ hybridization for Epstein-Barr virus showed no nuclear positivity in either adenocarcinoma or OGCs. Postoperative follow-up showed that the patient had survived for at least 6 months without recurrence. | 9 | Clinicopathological Features and Prognostic Value of KRAS/NRAS/BRAF Mutations in Colorectal Cancer Patients of Central China显示文摘The incidence of colorectal cancer(CRC)is increasing in China,with high mortality.Here,we aimed to evaluate the latest clinicopathological features and prognostic value of the KRAS/NRAS/BRAF mutation status in CRC patients in Central China.The clinical data of 1549 CRC patients with stage I-IV disease diagnosed at Union Hospital,Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology from 2015 to 2017 were collected and analyzed retrospectively.KRAS/NRAS/BRAF mutations were detected by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(q-PCR)in 410 CRC patients,with mutation frequencies of KRAS,NRAS and BRAF of 47.56%,2.93%and 4.15%,respectively.The gene mutation status and clinicopathological characteristics of 410 patients with CRC who underwent qPCR were analyzed.The KRAS and BRAF gene mutations were related to the pathological differentiation and number of metastatic lymph nodes.The BRAF gene mutation was also associated with cancer thrombosis in blood vessels.Cox regression analysis showed that there was no statistically significant difference in the overall survival(OS)between patients with KRAS,NRAS mutants and wild-type CRC patients,while the BRAF gene mutation was negatively correlated with the OS rate of CRC patients.It is suggested that the BRAF gene mutation may be an independent risk factor for the prognosis of CRC. | Xiao-na CHANG Fu-mei SHANG Hong-yu JIANG Chen CHEN Zhe-yan ZHAO Sheng-he DENG Jun FAN Xiao-chuan DONG Ming YANG Yan LI Kai-lin CAI Li LIU Hong-li LIU Xiu NIE | 2021 | Current Medical Science2021，41，1： | 2 |
