| 1 | Mesenchymal stem cells and the neuronal microenvironment in the area of spinal cord injury显示文摘Cell-based technologies are used as a therapeutic strategy in spinal cord injury(SCI). Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs), which secrete various neurotrophic factors and cytokines, have immunomodulatory, anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory effects, modulate reactivity/phenotype of astrocytes and the microglia, thereby promoting neuroregeneration seem to be the most promising. The therapeutic effect of MSCs is due to a paracrine mechanism of their action, therefore the survival of MSCs and their secretory phenotype is of particular importance. Nevertheless, these data are not always reported in efficacy studies of MSC therapy in SCI. Here, we provide a review with summaries of preclinical trials data evaluating the efficacy of MSCs in animal models of SCI. | 4 | Research progress on electrical signals in higher plants显示文摘This review introduces the characteristics of electrical signals in higher plants and their corresponding physiological significance, and describes in detail the impact of environmental factors (e.g. light and temperature) on the electrical potential of the plants. Also, we evaluate the measurement techniques used for electrical signals in plants, including intracellular measurement, extracellular measurement, measurement of the ion channel based on the patch-clamp technique and on the non-invasive microelectrode vibrating probe technique. We also give a brief review of the applications of these methods for investigating electrical signals in plants. The ionic mechanism of electrical activity in plants is then discussed in terms of environmental response in higher plants, and this is used to provide a theoretical basis for quantitative description of the electrical signals in plants. | 5 | Digitized Outcrop Geomodeling of Ramp Shoals and its Reservoirs: as an Example of Lower Triassic Feixianguan Formation of Eastern Sichuan Basin显示文摘Numerous hydrocarbon accumulations are found in ramp crest shoals worldwide and therefore this depositional setting has a high potential of being the hydrocarbon reservoir.In this paper,we combined digital outcrop geology and traditional geological mapping to build an outcrop-based geocellular model of the ramp-crest shoal complex of the Lower Triassic Feixianguan Formation in the Eastern Sichuan Basin.The outcrop model serves as an analogue for the subsurface reservoir of the Feixianguan Formation and illustrates the complexity of the lithofacies types,stratigraphic architecture,and reservoir heterogeneities at a scale below conventional subsurface data resolution.The studied ramp-crest shoal complex consists of thirteen types of lithofacies that can be grouped into three facies-groups corresponding to subtidal intraclastic shoal,sub-to inter-tidal oolitic shoal,and tidal flat depositional environments respectively.The stratigraphic architecture of the shoal complex shows mostly a strong progradation of the high energy facies associated with an overall decrease of accommodation space associated with relative sea level still stand.Two reservoir facies associations have been recognized.The first one consists of supratidal dolomudstone and upper intertidal partially dolomitized oolitic packstone with anhydrite or nodules.These facies were deposited above the high energy oolitic grainstones and occurs as thin-bedded and laterally continuous layers,characterized by high porosity and low permeability.The second reservoir facies association is composed of intertidal crystalline dolomite and subtidal intraclastic bindstone that occurs stratigraphically below the oolitic grainstones.These deposits consist of massive laterally discontinuously beds,and are characterized by high porosity and high permeability.Both types of reservoir facies tend to be stacked vertically and migrated laterally with the progradation of the shoal complex.The construction of the outcrop-based 3D geological model provide a description and quantification of the facies distribution within a robust stratigraphic framework and the style and amount of reservoir heterogeneities associated with a ramp-crest shoal complex reservoir such as the one found in Lower Triassic Feixianguan Formation and Cambrian Longwangmiao Formation in Sichuan Basin or other ramp-crest reservoir worldwide. | QIAO Zhanfeng SHEN Anjiang ZHENG Jianfeng Xavier JANSON CHANG Shaoying WANG Xiaofang CHEN Yana LIAO Yisha | 2017 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2017,91,4: | 8 |
| 6 | Medical expenditures for colorectal cancer diagnosis and treatment: A 10-year high-level-hospital-based multicenter retrospective survey in China, 2002-2011显示文摘Objective: Colorectal cancer(CRC) causes a substantial burden of disease in China and the evidence of economic burden triggered is fundamental for priority setting. The aim of this survey was to quantify medical expenditures and the time trends for CRC diagnosis and treatment in China.Methods: From 2012 to 2014, a hospital-based multicenter retrospective survey was conducted in 13 provinces across China. For each eligible CRC patient diagnosed from 2002 to 2011, clinical information and expenditure data were extracted using a uniform questionnaire. All expenditure data were reported in Chinese Yuan(CNY)using 2011 values.Results: Of the 14,536 CRC patients included, the average age at diagnosis was 58.2 years and 15.8% were stageI cases. The average medical expenditure per patient was estimated at 37,902 CNY [95 % confidence interval(95%CI): 37,282-38,522], and the annual average increase rate was 9.2% from 2002 to 2011(P for trend <0.001), with a cumulative increase of 2.4 times(from 23,275 CNY to 56,010 CNY). The expenditure per patient in stages Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ were 31,698 CNY, 37,067 CNY, 38,918 CNY and 42,614 CNY, respectively(P<0.001). Expenditure significantly differed within various subgroups. Expenses for drugs contributed the largest proportion(52.6%).Conclusions: These conservative estimates illustrated that medical expenditures for CRC diagnosis and treatment in tertiary hospitals in China were substantial and increased rapidly over the 10 years, with drugs continually being the main expense by 2011. Relatively, medical expenditures are lower for CRC in the earlier stages. | 7 | Clinical features and the traditional Chinese medicine therapeutic characteristics of 293 COVID-19 inpatient cases显示文摘Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is now pandemic worldwide and has heavily overloaded hospitals in Wuhan City, China during the time between late January and February. We reported the clinical features and therapeutic characteristics of moderate COVID-19 cases in Wuhan that were treated via the integration of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western medicine. We collected electronic medical record (EMR) data, which included the full clinical profiles of patients, from a designated TCM hospital in Wuhan. The structured data of symptoms and drugs from admission notes were obtained through an information extraction process. Other key clinical entities were also confirmed and normalized to obtain information on the diagnosis, clinical treatments, laboratory tests, and outcomes of the patients. A total of 293 COVID-19 inpatient cases, including 207 moderate and 86 (29.3%) severe cases, were included in our research. Among these cases, 238 were discharged, 31 were transferred, and 24 (all severe cases) died in the hospital. Our COVID-19 cases involved elderly patients with advanced ages (57 years on average) and high comorbidity rates (61%). Our results reconfirmed several well-recognized risk factors, such as age, gender (male), and comorbidities, as well as provided novel laboratory indications (e.g., cholesterol) and TCM-specific phenotype markers (e.g., dull tongue) that were relevant to COVID-19 infections and prognosis. In addition to antiviral/antibiotics and standard supportive therapies, TCM herbal prescriptions incorporating 290 distinct herbs were used in 273 (93%) cases. The cases that received TCM treatment had lower death rates than those that did not receive TCM treatment (17/273= 6.2% vs. 7/20= 35%, P = 0.0004 for all cases;17/77= 22% vs. 7/9= 77.7%, P = 0.002 for severe cases). The TCM herbal prescriptions used for the treatment of COVID-19 infections mainly consisted of Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Radix Scutellariae, Rhizoma Pinellia, and their combinations, which reflected the practical TCM principles (e.g., clearing heat and dampening phlegm). Lastly, 59% of the patients received treatment, including antiviral, antibiotics, and Chinese patent medicine, before admission. This situation might have some effects on symptoms, such as fever and dry cough. By using EMR data, we described the clinical features and therapeutic characteristics of 293 COVID-19 cases treated via the integration of TCM herbal prescriptions and Western medicine. Clinical manifestations and treatments before admission and in the hospital were investigated. | 8 | Comparing the Diagnostic Criteria of MAFLD and NAFLD in the Chinese Population:A Population-based Prospective Cohort Study显示文摘Background and Aims:Metabolic dysfunction-associ-ated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)is a new concept,pro-posed in 2020;however,its applicability in Asia populations has yet to be evaluated.Therefore,we aimed to compare the difference in epidemiological and clinical characteris-tics between MAFLD and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)among Asian populations.Methods:Based on the Jinchang cohort,30,633 participants were collected.The prevalence and incidence of MAFLD and NAFLD were used to analyze the epidemic characteristics and its overlapping effects.In addition,the corresponding clinical character-istics of the two diagnostic criteria populations were com-pared.Results:The prevalence rates of MAFLD and NAFLD were 21.03%and 18.83%,respectively.After an average 2.28-year follow-up,the incidence densities of MAFLD and NAFLD were 41.58 per 1,000 person-years and 37.69 per 1,000 person-years,respectively.With the increase of baseline age,body mass index(BMI),and waist circumfer-ence(WC)levels,the prevalence and incidence of MAFLD and NAFLD were on the rise(all ptrend<0.05).Among the total patients diagnosed at baseline or follow-up,most pa-tients had both MAFLD and NAFLD,accounting for 78.84%and 82.88%,respectively.Compared with NAFLD,MAFLD patients had greater proportions of males and metabolic diseases(diabetes,dyslipidemia),and had higher BMI,WC,liver enzymes,blood glucose,and lipid levels in the base-line diagnosis patients(p<0.05).Additionally,lean MAFLD patients had higher metabolic disorders than lean NAFLD patients(p<0.05).Conclusions:Compared with NAFLD,the newly proposed definition of MAFLD is more practical and accurate,and it can help identify more fatty liver pa-tients with high-risk diseases. | Cheng Yu Minzhen Wang Shan Zheng Miao Xia Hongyan Yang Desheng Zhang Chun Yin Ning Cheng Yana Bai | 2022 | Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2022,10,1: | 7 |

| 17 | Histamine 3 receptor activation mediates inhibition of acid secretion during Helicobacter-induced gastritis显示文摘AIM:To test the hypothesis that histamine 3 receptor (H3R)activation during Helicobacter infection inhibits gastric acid secretion in vivo and in vitro.METHODS:Helicobacter felis(H.felis)infected and uninfected C57Bl/6 mice were infused with either PBS or the H3 receptor antagonist thioperamide(THIO)for 12 wk.After treatment,mice were analyzed for morphological changes and gastric acid content.Total RNA was prepared from the stomachs of each group and analyzed for changes in somatostatin and gastrin mRNA abundance by real time-polymerase chain reaction(RTPCR).Location of H3 receptors in the stomach was analyzed by co-localization using antibodies specific for the H3 receptor and parietal cell marker H + ,K + -ATPase βsubunit. RESULTS:Inflammation and parietal cell atrophy was observed after 12 wk of H.felis infection.Interestingly, treatment with the H3R antagonist thioperamide(THIO) prior to and during infection prevented H.felis-induced inflammation and atrophy.Compared to the uninfected controls,infected mice also had significantly decreased gastric acid.After eradication of H.felis with THIO treatment,gastric acidity was restored.Compared to the control mice,somatostatin mRNA abundance was decreased while gastrin gene expression was elevated during infection.Despite elevated gastric acid levels, after eradication of H.felis with THIO,somatostatin mRNA was elevated whereas gastrin mRNA was suppressed.Immunofluorescence revealed the presence of H3 receptors on the parietal cells,somatostatin-secreting D-cells as well as the inflammatory cells. | 18 | Bioresponsive micro-to-nano albumin-based systems for targeted drug delivery against complex fungal infections显示文摘As a typical human pathogenic fungus,Cryptococcus neoformans is a life-threatening invasive fungal pathogen with a worldwide distribution causing w700,000 deaths annually.Cryptococcosis is not just an infection with multi-organ involvement,intracellular survival and extracellular multiplication of the fungus also play important roles in the pathogenesis of C.neoformans infections.Because adequate accumulation of drugs at target organs and cells is still difficult to achieve,an effective delivery strategy is desperately required to treat these infections.Here,we report a bioresponsive micro-to-nano(MTN)system that effectively clears the C.neoformans in vivo.This strategy is based on our in-depth study of the overexpression of matrix metalloproteinase 3(MMP-3)in infectious microenvironments(IMEs)and secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine(SPARC)in several associated target cells.In this MTN system,bovine serum albumin(BSA,a natural ligand of SPARC)was used for the preparation of nanoparticles(NPs),and then microspheres were constructed by conjugation with a special linker,which mainly consisted of a BSA-binding peptide and an MMP-3-responsive peptide.This MTN system was mechanically captured by the smallest capillaries of the lungs after intravenous injection,and then hydrolyzed into BSA NPs by MMP-3 in the IMEs.The NPs further targeted the lung tissue,brain and infected macrophages based on the overexpression of SPARC,reaching multiple targets and achieving efficient treatment.We have developed a size-tunable strategy where microspheres'shrink'to NPs in IMEs,which effectively combines active and passive targeting and may be especially powerful in the fight against complex fungal infections. | Liting Cheng Miao-Miao Niu Tong Yana Zhongyi Ma Kexin Huang Ling Yang Xin Zhong Chong Li | 2021 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2021,11,10: | 2 |
| 19 | Sarcopenia in cirrhosis: Prospects for therapy targeted to gut microbiota显示文摘Decreased muscle mass and function,also known as sarcopenia,is common in patients with cirrhosis and is associated with a poor prognosis.Although the pathogenesis of this disorder has not been fully elucidated,a disordered gutmuscle axis probably plays an important role.Decreased barrier function of the gut and liver,gut dysbiosis,and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth(SIBO)can lead to increased blood levels of ammonia,lipopolysaccharides,pro-inflammatory mediators,and myostatin.These factors have complex negative effects on muscle mass and function.Drug interventions that target the gut microbiota(long-term use of rifaximin,lactulose,lactitol,or probiotics)positively affect most links of the compromised gut-muscle axis in patients with cirrhosis by decreasing the levels of hyperammonemia,bacterial translocation,and systemic inflammation and correcting gut dysbiosis and SIBO.However,although these drugs are promising,they have not yet been investigated in randomized controlled trials specifically for the treatment and prevention of sarcopenia in patients with cirrhosis.No data exist on the effects of fecal transplantation on most links of gut-muscle axis in cirrhosis;however,the results of animal experimental studies are promising. | Roman Maslennikov Aliya Alieva Elena Poluektova Yury Zharikov Andrey Suslov Yana Letyagina Ekaterina Vasileva Anna Levshina Evgenii Kozlov Vladimir Ivashkin | 2023 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2023,29,27: | 2 |
