| 1 | Preliminary experience with drug-coated balloon angioplasty in primary percutaneous coronary intervention显示文摘We evaluated the clinical feasibility of using drugcoated balloon(DCB) angioplasty in patients undergoingprimary percutaneous coronary intervention(PPCI). Between January 2010 to September 2014,89 STelevation myocardial infarction patients(83% male,mean age 59 ± 14 years) with a total of 89 coronary lesions were treated with DCB during PPCI. Clinical outcomes are reported at 30 d follow-up. Left anterior descending artery was the most common target vessel for PCI(37%). Twenty-eight percent of the patients had underlying diabetes mellitus. Mean left ventricular ejection fraction was 44% ± 11%. DCB-only PCI was the predominant approach(96%) with the remaining 4% of patients receiving bail-out stenting. Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction(TIMI) 3 flow was successfully restored in 98% of patients. An average of 1.2 ± 0.5 DCB were used per patient,with mean DCB diameter of 2.6 ± 0.5 mm and average length of 23.2 ± 10.2 mm. At 30-d follow-up,there were 4 deaths(4.5%). No patients experienced abrupt closure of the infarctrelated artery and there was no reported target-lesion failure. | 2 | Antioxidant, antimicrobial and cytotoxic potential of condensed tannins from Leucaena leucocephala hybrid-Rendang显示文摘Condensed tannins(CTs)are one of the promising compounds due to their potentially health-promoting qualities.In this study,CTs were extracted from a Leucaena leucocephala hybrid-Rendang and subjected to various biological studies including antioxidant(using Ferric reducing antioxidant power(FRAP),DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assay),anti-microbial(against different pathogens)and cytotoxic activities(toward human breast adenocarcinoma(MCF-7),human colon carcinoma(HT29),human cervical carcinoma(HeLa)and human liver carcinoma(HepG2)cell lines)in cancer cells through in vitro experiments.The structural characteristics and purity of CTs extract were determined using 13C NMR.The results showed that CTs exhibited higher in vitro antioxidant activities(2257.12±80.55 mg TEAC/g extract,605.3±1.82 mg TEAC/g extract and 1014.03±1.20 mg TEAC/g extract in FRAP,ABTS and DPPH assay,respectively)and demonstrated anti-microbial activities toward selected Gram’s positive and Gram’s negative bacteria tested with MIC and MBC value at 6.25–50 mg/mL.Furthermore,among other selected cancer cells,CTs also demonstrated cytotoxic activity toward human breast cancer cells(MCF-7)(IC50=38.33±2.08mg/mL).Characteristic of apoptosis such as cell shrinkage,nuclear condensation and apoptotic bodies were shown in MCF-7.These preliminary investigations have provided scientific rationale to use CTs as an alternative therapy for various oxidative and inflammatory associated diseases.©2016 Beijing Academy of Food Sciences.Production and hosting by Elsevier B.V.All rights reserved. | Mazni Abu Zarin Ho Yin Wan Azizul Isha Nurdin Armania | 2016 | Food Science and Human Wellness2016,5,2: | 9 |
| 3 | Geographical distribution of red and green Noctiluca scintillans显示文摘The dinoflagellate Noctiluca scintillans is one of the most important and abundant red tide organisms and it is distributed world-wide. It occurs in two forms. Red Noctiluca is heterotrophic and fills the role of one of the microzooplankton grazers in the foodweb. In contrast, green Noctiluca contains a photosynthetic symbiont Pedinomonas noctilucae (a prasinophyte), but it also feeds on other plankton when the food supply is abundant. In this review, we document the global distribution of these two forms and include the first maps of their global distribution. Red Noctiluca occurs widely in the temperate to sub-tropical coastal regions of the world. It occurs over a wide temperature range of about 10°C to 25°C and at higher salinities (generally not in estuaries). It is particularly abundant in high productivity areas such as upwelling or eutrophic areas where diatoms dominate since they are its preferred food source. Green Noctiluca is much more restricted to a temperature range of 25°C-30°C and mainly occurs in tropical waters of Southeast Asia, Bay of Bengal (east coast of India), in the eastern, western and northern Arabian Sea, the Red Sea, and recently it has become very abundant in the Gulf of Oman. Red and green Noctiluca do overlap in their distribution in the eastern, northern and western Arabian Sea with a seasonal shift from green Noctiluca in the cooler winter convective mixing, higher productivity season, to red Noctiluca in the more oligotrophic warmer summer season. | P. | 4 | Improving the stability and bioavailability of tea polyphenols by encapsulations:a review显示文摘Tea polyphenols(TPPs)have attracted significant research interest due to their health benefits.However,TPPs are sensitive to certain environmental and gastrointestinal conditions and their oral bioavailability was found to be very low.Delivery systems made of food-grade materials have been reported to improve the shelf-life,bioavailability and bioefficacy of TPPs.This review discusses the chemistry of TPPs;the setbacks of TPPs for application;and the strategies to counteract application limitations by rationally designing delivery systems.An overview of different formulations used to encapsulate TPPs is provided in this study,such as emulsion-based systems(liposome,nanoemulsion,double emulsion,and Pickering emulsion)and nano/microparticles-based systems(protein-based,carbohydrate-based,and bi-polymer based).In addition,the stability,bioavailability and bioactivities of encapsulated TPPs are evaluated by various in vitro and in vivo models.The current findings provide scientific insights in encapsulation approaches for the delivery of TPPs,which can be of great value to TPPs-fortified food products.Further explorations are needed for the encapsulated TPPs in terms of their applications in the real food industry as well as their biological fate and functional pathways in vivo. | Zhiya Yin Ting Zheng Chi-Tang Ho Qingrong Huang Qingli Wu Man Zhang | 2022 | Food Science and Human Wellness2022,11,3: | 7 |
| 5 | 职业接尘及吸烟致呼吸系统疾病死亡危险度比较的队列研究显示文摘目的比较接尘、吸烟对呼吸系统疾病死亡的影响。方法在1989年至1992年广州建立职业健康监护档案的基础上对30岁以上、职业接触粉尘和无粉尘接触的80 987名工人进行前瞻性队列研究。结果(1)队列平均年龄43.5岁,职业性粉尘接触率16.3%,吸烟率43.7%,饮酒率33.5%。(2)队列平均随访8年,35人失访,失访率0.04%,总死亡1593人中,219人死于肺癌,90人死于非恶性肿瘤性呼吸系统疾病。(3)调整相关因素后,相对于不吸烟者,吸烟者肺癌死亡相对危险度(RR)为3.32,是粉尘接触者相对于无粉尘接触者肺癌死亡RR(1.53)的2.2倍。粉尘接触者非恶性肿瘤性呼吸系统疾病死亡RR为2.41,是吸烟者(1.89)的1.28倍。尤其是矽尘接触者,其非恶性肿瘤性呼吸系统疾病死亡RR为5.72,是吸烟者的3.03倍。既接触粉尘又吸烟,呼吸系统疾病死亡RR增加更明显。(4)男性吸烟者呼吸系统疾病死亡危险分别随日吸烟量、烟龄的增加而增加。结论职业接触粉尘和吸烟均可引致超额的呼吸系统疾病死亡,两者存在协同作用。吸烟致肺癌死亡RR高于接尘,而致非恶性肿瘤性呼吸系统疾病死亡RR则低于接尘。吸烟与呼吸系统疾病死亡危险存在明显的剂量-效应关系。 | 张维森 江朝强 Lam Tai Hing Ho Sai Yin 刘薇薇 何健民 曹民 陈清 | 2006 | 中华劳动卫生职业病杂志2006,24,6: | 5 |
| 6 | Enhanced photocatalytic activity and mechanism of CeO_(2) hollow spheres for tetracycline degradation显示文摘Recently, researchers have focused on designing and fabricating highly efficient catalysts for photocatalytic organic pollutant removal. Herein, CeO_(2) hollow spheres were prepared through a simple template method followed by calcination at different temperatures for the tetracycline(TC) degradation under simulated solar light illumination. With a calcination temperature ranging from400 to 800 ℃, the as-prepared CeO_(2) hollow structure annealed at 600 ℃(C_(600)) exhibited the best degradation performance with a degradation rate constant of0.066 min-1, which was about six and five times higher than those of the uncalcined sample(C_(0)) and the sample calcined at 800 ℃(C_(800)), respectively. Moreover, sample C_(600)was also superior to the CeO_(2) solid particle photocatalyst. The characterisation results showed that the improved photocatalytic performance was mainly ascribed to the synergistic effect of large specific surface areas, high crystallisation and excellent light scattering ability. Furthermore, the results of active species trapping experiments demonstrated that the superoxide anion(·O_(2)^(-)) radical and hole(h^(+)) played dominant roles in TC degradation. Subsequently, the possible TC degradation pathways and photocatalytic mechanism of CeO_(2) hollow spheres were proposed on the basis of high-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis, main active species and band edge positions of CeO_(2). | 10 | Examining patterns of traditional chinese medicine use in pediatric oncology: A systematic review, meta-analysis and data-mining study显示文摘Background Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)is becoming a popular complementary approach in pediatric oncology.However,few or no meta-analyses have focused on clinical studies of the use of TCM in pediatric oncology.Objective We explored the patterns of TCM use and its efficacy in children with cancer,using a systematic review,meta-analysis and data mining study.Search strategy We conducted a search of five English(Allied and Complementary Medicine Database,Embase,PubMed,Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials,and ClinicalTrials.gov)and four Chinese databases(Wanfang Data,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Chinese Biomedical Literature Database,and VIP Chinese Science and Technology Periodicals Database)for clinical studies published before October 2021,using keywords related to“pediatric,”“cancer,”and“TCM.”Inclusion criteria We included studies which were randomized controlled trials(RCTs)or observational clinical studies,focused on patients aged<19 years old who had been diagnosed with cancer,and included at least one group of subjects receiving TCM treatment.Data extraction and analysis The methodological quality of RCTs and observational studies was assessed using the six-item Jadad scale and the Effective Public Healthcare Panacea Project Quality Assessment Tool,respectively.Meta-analysis was used to evaluate the efficacy of combining TCM with chemotherapy.Study outcomes included the treatment response rate and occurrence of cancer-related symptoms.Association rule mining(ARM)was used to investigate the associations among medicinal herbs and patient symptoms.Results The fifty-four studies included in this analysis were comprised of RCTs(63.0%)and observational studies(37.0%).Most RCTs focused on hematological malignancies(41.2%).The study outcomes included chemotherapy-induced toxicities(76.5%),infection rate(35.3%),and response,survival or relapse rate(23.5%).The methodological quality of most of the RCTs(82.4%)and observational studies(80.0%)was rated as“moderate.”In studies of leukemia patients,adding TCM to conventional treatment significantly improved the clinical response rate(odds ratio[OR]=2.55;95%confidence interval[CI]=1.49-4.36),lowered infection rate(OR=0.23;95%CI=0.13-0.40),and reduced nausea and vomiting(OR=0.13;95%CI=0.08-0.23).ARM showed that Radix Astragali,the most commonly used medicinal herb(58.0%),was associated with treating myelosuppression,gastrointestinal complications,and infection.Conclusion There is growing evidence that TCM is an effective adjuvant therapy for children with cancer.We proposed a checklist to improve the quality of TCM trials in pediatric oncology.Future work will examine the use of ARM techniques on real-world data to evaluate the efficacy of medicinal herbs and drug-herb interactions in children receiving TCM as a part of integrated cancer therapy. | Chun Sing Lam Li Wen Peng Lok Sum Yang Ho Wing Janessa Chou Chi-Kong Li Zhong Zuo Ho-Kee Koon Yin Ting Cheung | 2022 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2022,20,5: | 2 |
