2Expression of calreticulin is associated with infiltration of T-cells in stage ⅢB colon cancer显示文摘AIM: To investigate the correlation between expression of calreticulin and infiltration of lymphocytes in stage ⅢB colon cancer. METHODS: Sixty-eight pathologically-confirmed speci-mens were obtained from stage ⅢB (T3N1M0) colon cancer patients who underwent radical resection between January 1999 and May 2002 at the Cancer Center of Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China. Immuno-histochemical analysis was performed to show infiltration of lymphocytes and expression of calreticulin in colon cancer. Association between calreticulin expression, infiltration of lymphocytes, and 5-year survival rate of patients was assessed. RESULTS: The expression level of calreticulin was lower in cancer nest than in its adjacent normal epithelium since 61.8% (42/68) of the samples were stained with calreticulin in colon cancer. The expression of calreticulin in colon cancer was associated with the infi ltration of CD45RO+ cells rather than with that of CD3+ cells. In addition, the stronger expression of calreticulin and the higher infiltration of CD3+ and CD45RO+ cells in colon cancer were associated with the higher 5-year survival rate of patients. 3Calcium signaling and T-type calcium channels in cancer cell cycling显示文摘Regulation of intracellular calcium is an important signaling mechanism for cell proliferation in both normal and cancerous cells. In normal epithelial cells, free calcium concentration is essential for cells to enter and accomplish the S phase and the M phase of the cell cycle. In contrast, cancerous cells can pass these phases of the cell cycle with much lower cytoplasmic free calcium concentrations, indicating an alternative mechanism has developed for fulfilling the intracellular calcium requirement for an increased rate of DNA synthesis and mitosis of fast replicating cancerous cells. The detailed mechanism underlying the altered calcium loading pathway remains unclear; however, there is a growing body of evidence that suggests the T-type Ca2+ channel is abnormally expressed in cancerous cells and that blockade of these channels may reduce cell proliferation in addition to inducing apoptosis. Recent studies also show that the expression of T-type Ca2+ channels in breast cancer cells is proliferation state dependent, i.e. the channels are expressed at higher levels during the fast-replication period, and once the cells are in a non-proliferation state, expression of this channel isminimal. Therefore, selectively blocking calcium entry into cancerous cells may be a valuable approach for preventing tumor growth. 4Adaptive Walking of a Quadrupedal Robot Based on Layered Biological Reflexes显示文摘A multiple-legged robot is traditionally controlled by using its dynamic model.But the dynamic-model-based approach fails to acquire satisfactory performances when the robot faces rough terrains and unknown environments.Referring animals' neural control mechanisms,a control model is built for a quadruped robot walking adaptively.The basic rhythmic motion of the robot is controlled by a well-designed rhythmic motion controller(RMC) comprising a central pattern generator(CPG) for hip joints and a rhythmic coupler(RC) for knee joints.CPG and RC have relationships of motion-mapping and rhythmic couple.Multiple sensory-motor models,abstracted from the neural reflexes of a cat,are employed.These reflex models are organized and thus interact with the CPG in three layers,to meet different requirements of complexity and response time to the tasks.On the basis of the RMC and layered biological reflexes,a quadruped robot is constructed,which can clear obstacles and walk uphill and downhill autonomously,and make a turn voluntarily in uncertain environments,interacting with the environment in a way similar to that of an animal.The paper provides a biologically inspired architecture,with which a robot can walk adaptively in uncertain environments in a simple and effective way,and achieve better performances.ZHANG Xiuli E Mingcheng ZENG Xiangyu ZHENG Haojun 2012Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2012,25,4:10

6Aquatic Species Dominate Organic Matter in Qinghai Lake during the Holocene:Evidence from Eolian Deposits around the Lake显示文摘Total organic carbon(TOC) in lake sediments and its stable carbon isotope(δ^(13)C_(org)) are widely applied to investigate paleoenvironmental changes even though their implications are complicated and multi-explanatory. Organic geochemistry studies of lake sediments from Qinghai Lake have been investigated, but some interpretations are controversial. In this study, TOC of one Holocene eolian section and δ^(13)C_(org) of three eolian sections were studied around Qinghai Lake. Results indicate that the TOC content in eolian deposits was low during the Early Holocene, and gradually increased to high values during the Middle and Late Holocene. The variation in TOC content of eolian deposits is different from that in the lacustrine sequence from Qinghai Lake during the Holocene. The δ^(13)C_(org) values in the eolian sections were relatively stable, with oscillation amplitudes of ~4‰(ranging from-25.8‰ to-22.1‰), in contrast to ~10‰ variation s in δ^(13)C_(org) values(varying from-30‰ to-20‰) in lacustrine sediments. Through comparison of TOC and δ^(13)C_(org) values between eolian deposits and lacustrine sediments, we can confirm indications that the organic matter in Qinghai Lake sediments during the Holocene was primarily a contribution of the aquatic species in the lake. 8Highly sensitive solar-blind deep ultraviolet photodetector based on graphene/PtSe_(2)/β-Ga_(2)O_(3)2D/3D Schottky junction with ultrafast speed显示文摘There is an emerging need for high-sensitivity solar-blind deep ultraviolet(DUV)photodetectors with an ultra-fast response speed.Although nanoscale devices based on Ga_(2)O_(3)nanostructures have been developed,their practical applications are greatly limited by their slow response speed as well as low specific detectivity.Here,the successful fabrication of two-/three-dimensional(2D/3D)graphene(Gr)/PtSe2/β-Ga_(2)O_(3)Schottky junction devices for high-sensitivity solar-blind DUV photodetectors is demonstrated.Benefitting from the high-quality 2D/3D Schottky junction,the vertically stacked structure,and the superior-quality transparent graphene electrode for effective carrier collection,the photodetector is highly sensitive to DUV light illumination and achieves a high responsivity of 76.2 mA/W,a large on/off current ratio of~105,along with an ultra-high ultraviolet(UV)/visible rejection ratio of 1.8×104.More importantly,it has an ultra-fast response time of 12µs and a remarkable specific detectivity of~1013 Jones.Finally,an excellent DUV imaging capability has been identified based on the Gr/PtSe2/β-Ga_(2)O_(3)Schottky junction photodetector,demonstrating its great potential application in DUV imaging systems.Di Wu Zhihui Zhao Wei Lu Lukas Rogée Longhui Zeng Pei Lin Zhifeng Shi Yongtao Tian Xinjian Li Yuen Hong Tsang 2021Nano Research2021,14,6:4
9Chaperone-mediated autophagy:roles in neuroprotection显示文摘Chaperone-mediated autophagy(CMA), one of the main pathways of lysosomal proteolysis, is characterized by the selective targeting and direct translocation into the lysosomal lumen of substrate proteins containing a targeting motif biochemically related to the pentapeptide KFERQ. Along with the other two lysosomal pathways, macro- and micro-autophagy, CMA is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis and survival by selectively degrading misfolded, oxidized, or damaged cytosolic proteins. CMA plays an important role in pathologies such as cancer, kidney disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases. Neurons are post-mitotic and highly susceptible to dysfunction of cellular quality-control systems. Maintaining a balance between protein synthesis and degradation is critical for neuronal functions and homeostasis. Recent studies have revealed several new mechanisms by which CMA protects neurons through regulating factors critical for their viability and homeostasis. 10Mantle Source Components and Magmatic Evolution for the Comei Large Igneous Province:Evidence from the Early Cretaceous Niangzhong Mafic Magmatism in Tethyan Himalaya显示文摘The Niangzhong diabase dikes,dated at 138.1±0.4 Ma,are located within the outcrop area of the Comei large igneous province(LIP).These diabase samples can be divided into two groups:samples in Group 1 show varying MgO(1.50 wt.%-10.25 wt.%)and TiO_(2)(0.85 wt.%-4.63 wt.%)contents,and enriched initial isotope compositions(^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr(t)=0.7056-0.7112,ε_(Nd)(t)=-0.3-+3.8),with OIB-like REEs and trace elements patterns,resulting from low degree melting of garnet-bearing lherzolite mantle sources;in contrast,samples in Group 2 show limited MgO(4.14 wt.%-7.75 wt.%)and TiO_(2)(0.98 wt.%-1.69 wt.%)contents,and depleted initial isotope compositions(^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr(t)=0.7075-0.7112,ε_(Nd)(t)=+5.5-+6.2),with N-MORB-like REEs and trace elements patterns,resulting from relatively high degree melting of spinel-bearing lherzolite mantle source.Combined with the published representative data about Comei LIP,we summarize that the source components for Comei LIP products include OIB end-member,enriched OIB end-member,and N-MORB end-member,respectively.Melts modeling suggests that magmas in the Comei LIP evolve in a relatively high oxygen fugacity condition,which influenced their fractionation sequences and led to systematic changes of TiO_(2)contents,Ti/Y and Ti/Ti*ratios.From the spatial and temporal distribution of above three end-member samples,deep process of Kerguelen plume during the Comei LIP formation can be interpreted as the interaction among the Kerguelen plume,the overlying lithospheric mantle,and the upwelling asthenosphere.The magmatism of Comei LIP began at~140 Ma and then lasted and peaked at~132 Ma with the progressively lithospheric thinning of eastern Gondwana upon the impact of Kerguelen plume.Yaying Wang Lingsen Zeng Kejun Hou Li'e Gao Qian Wang Linghao Zhao Jiahao Gao Guangxu Li 2022Journal of Earth Science2022,33,1:3
11Phylogenetic position of sponges in early metazoan evolution and bionic applications of siliceous sponge spicules显示文摘Sponges are the oldest and the simplest but not primitive multicellular animals. They represent the earliest evolutionary metazoan phylum still extant. It was a long and painful scientific process to posi-tion the most enigmatic and mysterious metazoan,the Porifera,into their correct phylogenetic place among the eukaryotes in general and multicellular animals in particular. As living fossils,sponges provide the best evidence for the early evolution of Metazoa. More recently,interest has been focused on the bionic applications of sponges' siliceous spicules,after the discovery of their unique structure and high fiber performance. In this review,the emergence of sponges,evolutionary novelties found in sponges,and the phylogenetic position of sponges in early metazoan evolution are highlighted. 12Response of Soil Organic Carbon and Its Aggregate Fractions to LongTerm Fertilization in Irrigated Desert Soil of China显示文摘Irrigated desert soil samples in the Hexi Corridor of China were collected over a period of 23 years from a site where different fertilization methods had been used. Changes of soil organic carbon(SOC) and its water stable aggregate(WSA) size fractions were studied. The effects of various fertilization methods on the distribution of added organic carbon(OC) in different WSA size fractions were also analyzed. The results showed that the applied fertilizations for 23 years improved SOC concentrations and OC concentrations in all WSA size fractions compared to the non-fertilized treatment(CK). In addition, fertilization obviously increased the OC stocks of <2 mm WSA size fractions compared to the CK. The average OC stock of <0.053 mm WSA fraction was 1.7, 1.6 and 3.2 times higher than those of >2 mm, 0.25-2 mm and 0.053-0.25 mm WSA fractions, respectively. A significant positive correlation was found between soil C gains and OC inputs(r=0.92, P<0.05), indicating that SOC may have not reached the saturation point yet at the site. The C sequestration rate was estimated by 14.02% at the site. The OC stocks in all of the <2 mm WSA fractions increased with the increase of OC input amounts; and the conversion rate of the input fresh OC to the OC stock of <0.053 mm WSA fraction was 1.2 and 2.6 times higher than those of the 0.25-2 mm and 0.053-0.25 mm WSA fractions, respectively. 13Construction and Testing of a Primary Microsatellite Database of Major Rice Varieties in China显示文摘Sixty-three major inbred varieties and parental lines of major F1 hybrids used in the commercial rice production in China were assayed with rice microsatellites screened in a previous study and additional microsatellites on four chromosomes. A set of 24 markers was selected and proposed for its application in the variety identification of rice, which are distributed on all the 12 rice chromosomes with 2 markers on each chromosome. The 63 major varieties and parental lines, as well as 41 major F1 hybrids, were genotyped with the markers. Alleles detected in each line at each marker locus were verified. By matching marker genotypes of corresponding F1, maternal and paternal lines of hybrid rice, high reliability of the maternal lines was verified, data on the paternal lines were modified, and a false hybrid was removed. 15Rutile to Titanite Transformation in Eclogites and its Geochemical Consequences:An Example from the Sumdo Eclogite,Tibet显示文摘The formation of titanite coronae after rutile is common in retrograde high-to ultrahigh-pressure meta-mafic rocks,which provides a good opportunity to address the geochemical behavior of HFSE in crustal environments.In the Sumdo eclogite,titanite occurs either as a corona around rutile grains or as semi-continuous veins cross-cutting the major foliation,whereas rutile grains occur either as inclusions in garnet or omphacite or as a relict core surrounded by titanite.Textural relationships and trace elements characteristics of rutile and titanite with different occurrences indicate that both minerals preferentially incorporate Nb and Hf over Ta and Zr in aqueous fluid.Moreover,the breakdown of omphacite and epidote could release substantial amounts of aqueous fluids enriched in Ca,Si,Fe and REE,which would react with rutile to form titanite coronae and veins.During this process,water-insoluble elements,like HFSE and HREE,behave like mobile elements,but they do not migrate substantially out of the system,instead,tending to react in situ.This suggests that the aqueous fluids released during the retrograde metamorphic reactions in mafic rocks could not substantially transfer fluidimmobile elements into the overlying mantle wedge in subduction environments.ZHAO Linghao ZENG Lingsen GAO Li’e HU Mingyue SUN Dongyang ZHANG Lifei 2023Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2023,97,1:2
16Chemiluminescence Determination of Tetracycline and Oxytetracycline in Pharmaceutical Preparations Using Ru(bipy)_3^(2+)-Cerium(Ⅳ) System显示文摘A new chemiluminescence (CL) method for the determination of tetracycline and oxytetracycline is developed, hased on the CL reaction of tetracycline and oxytetracycline with Ru(bipy)32+ and Ce(IV). In sulfuric acid medium, the CL emission is generated upon continuous oxidation of Ru(bipy)32+ by cerium (IV ). The emission intensity is greatly enhanced when tetracycline and oxytetracycline are introduced into the reaction system after acid degradation. Under the optimum conditions, the calibration curves are linear over the range of 8. 0 X 10-8-4. 0 X 10-6 mol/L for tetracycline and of 2. 0 X 10-74. 0 X 10-5 mol/L for oxytetracycline, with the detection limits are 4. 2 X 10-8 mol/L for tetracycline and 1. 5 X 10-7 mol/L for oxytetracycline, respectively.
