| 1 | Seroepidemiological Investigation of Lyme Disease and Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis among People Living in Forest Areas of Eight Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Lyme disease and Human granulocytic anaplasmosis are tick‐borne diseases caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum respectively. We have investigated infection and co-infection of the two diseases in the population of forest areas of eight provinces in China by measuring seroprevalence of antibodies against B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum. Methods Forest areas in 8 provinces were chosen for investigation using whole sampling and questionnaire survey methods. 3 669 serum samples from people in the forest areas were tested for the presence of antibodies by indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA). Results Seroprevalence against B. burgdorferi was 3% to 15% and against A. phagocytophilum was 2% to 18% in the study sites in the 8 provinces in China. We also found co-infection of B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum in 7 of the 8 provinces (the exception being the Miyun area in Beijing). The seroprevalence for both B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum was significantly higher among people exposed to ticks than among people who were not exposed to ticks. | 2 | C-reactive Protein Level,Apolipoprotein B-to-apolipoprotein A-1 Ratio,and Risks of Ischemic Stroke and Coronary Heart Disease among Inner Mongolians in China显示文摘Objective We aimed to investigate the cumulative effect of high CRP level and apolipoprotein B-to-apolipoprotein A-1(ApoB/ApoA-1) ratio on the incidence of ischemic stroke(IS) or coronary heart disease(CHD) in a Mongolian population in China.Methods From June 2003 to July 2012,2589 Mongolian participants were followed up for IS and CHD events based on baseline investigation.All the participants were divided into four subgroups according to C-reactive protein(CRP) level and ApoB/ApoA-1 ratio.Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate the hazard ratios(HRs) and 95% confidence intervals(CIs) for the IS and CHD events in all the subgroups.Results The HRs(95% CI) for IS and CHD were 1.33(0.84-2.12),1.14(0.69-1.88),and 1.91(1.17-3.11) in the ‘low CRP level with high ApoB/ApoA-1',‘high CRP level with low ApoB/ApoA-1',and ‘high CRP level with high ApoB/ApoA-1' subgroups,respectively,in comparison with the ‘low CRP level with low ApoB/ApoA-1' subgroup.The risks of IS and CHD events was highest in the ‘high CRP level with high ApoB/ApoA-1' subgroup,with statistical significance.Conclusion High CRP level with high ApoB/ApoA-1 ratio was associated with the highest risks of IS and CHD in the Mongolian population.This study suggests that the combination of high CRP and ApoB/ApoA-1 ratio may improve the assessment of future risk of developing IS and CHD in the general population. | TIAN Yun Fan ZHOU Yi Peng ZHONG Chong Ke BUREN Batu XU Tian LI Hong Mei ZHANG Ming Zhi WANG Ai Li ZHANG Yong Hong | 2016 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2016,29,7: | 12 |
| 3 | Correlation of Seven Biological Factors(Hsp90α,p53,MDM2,Bcl-2,Bax,Cytochrome C,and Cleaved caspase3)with Clinical Outcomes of ALK+ Anaplastic Large-cell Lymphoma显示文摘Objective To explore correlation of seven apoptosis‐related proteins (Hsp90α,p53,MDM2,Bcl‐2,Bax,Cytochrome C,and Cleaved caspase3) with clinical outcomes of ALK+ anaplastic large‐cell lymphoma (ALCL).Methods Using immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence double staining methods,the expressions of these seven apoptosis‐associated proteins were studied to clarify their relationship with clinical outcomes of 36 ALK+ and 25 ALK‐ systemic ALCL patients enrolled between 1996 and 2006.The relationship of these apoptosis‐regulating proteins with NPM‐ALK status was also evaluated with the tyrosine inhibitor herbimycin A (HA) in vitro by immunocytochemistry,Western blotting and flow cytometric assays.Results The presence of Hsp90α‐,MDM2‐,Bax‐,Cytochrome C,and Cleaved caspase3‐positive tumor cells was found significantly different in ALK+ and ALK‐ ALCLs ,which was correlated with highly favorable clinical outcome.The Bcl‐2‐ and p53‐positive tumor cells were found in groups of patients with unfavorable prognosis.Inhibition of NPM‐ALK by HA could reactivate the p53 protein and subsequent apoptosis‐related proteins and therefore induced apoptosis in ALK+ ALCL cells.Conclusion Our results suggest that these seven proteins might be involved in apoptosis regulation and associated with clinical outcome of ALK+ systemic ALCLs.We also reveal a dynamic chain relation that NPM‐ALK regulates p53 expression and subsequent apoptosis cascade in ALK+ ALCLs. | LI Hui Ling HUANG Xue Ping ZHOU Xin Hua JI Tian Hai WU Zi Qing WANG Zhi Qiang JIANG Hui Yong LIU Fan Rong ZHAO Tong | 2011 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2011,24,6: | 9 |
| 4 | Alcohol Drinking, Dyslipidemia, and Diabetes: A Population-based Prospective Cohort Study among Inner Mongolians in China显示文摘Objective No previous studies have evaluated the association between dyslipidemia,alcohol drinking,and diabetes in an Inner Mongolian population.We aimed to evaluate the co-effects of drinking and dyslipidemia on diabetes incidence in this population.Methods The present study was based on 1880 participants from a population-based prospective cohort study among Inner Mongolians living in China.Participants were classified into four subgroups according to their drinking status and dyslipidemia.Multivariate logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curves were used to evaluate the association between alcohol drinking,dyslipidemia,and diabetes.Results During the follow-up period,203 participants were found to have developed diabetes.The multivariable-adjusted odds ratios(95% confidence interval) for the incidence of non-dyslipidemia/drinkers,dyslipidemia/non-drinkers,and dyslipidemia/drinkers in diabetic patients were 1.40(0.82-2.37),1.73(1.17-2.55),and 2.31(1.38-3.87),respectively,when compared with non-dyslipidemia/non-drinkers.The area under the ROC curve for a model containing dyslipidemia and drinking status along with conventional factors(AUC=0.746) was significantly(P=0.003) larger than the one containing only conventional factors(AUC=0.711).Conclusion The present study showed that dyslipidemia was an independent risk factor for diabetes,and that drinkers with dyslipidemia had the highest risk of diabetes in the Mongolian population.These findings suggest that dyslipidemia and drinking status may be valuable in predicting diabetes incidence. | LIANG Zhu QIU Qiao Yan WU Jia Hui ZHOU Jing Wen XU Tian ZHANG Ming Zhi ZHANG Yong Hong ZHANG Shao Yan | 2016 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2016,29,8: | 7 |
| 5 | Smoking and Its Relation to Metabolic Status among Chinese Adults: Analysis of a Nationwide Survey显示文摘Objective To update the estimated prevalence rates of smoking and examine major metabolic diseases associated with smoking status in Chinese adults. Methods Using a complex, multistage, probability sampling design, we recruited a nationally representative sample of 98,658 Chinese adults aged ≥18 years in 2010. Information on current, former, never, and passive smoking status was obtained using a standard questionnaire. All estimates were weighted to represent the overall Chinese adult population. Results The estimated proportion of current smokers was 28.3% for Chinese adults aged ≥18 years. The corresponding values of former and passive smokers were 5.1% and 21.4%, respectively. Additionally, former smokers were found to have a less favorable metabolic risk profile among all categories of smoking status in both men and women. The prevalence of metabolic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension also increased with a greater number of smoking pack-years in men. | 6 | Combined Effects of A Body Shape Index and Serum C-reactive Protein on Ischemic Stroke Incidence among Mongolians in China显示文摘Objective We aimed to evaluate the combined effects of a high body shape index(ABSI) and a high serum C-reactive protein(CRP) level on the incidence of ischemic stroke in a Mongolian population in China. Methods A prospective cohort study was conducted among 2,589 participants from June 2002 to July 2012 in Inner Mongolia, China. The participants were categorized into 4 groups according to their level of ABSI and CRP. Cox proportional hazards models were used to assess the hazard ratios(HRs) and 95% confidence intervals(CIs) for ischemic stroke among all groups. Results The multivariate adjusted HRs(95% CI) of ischemic stroke for high ABSI and high CRP level were 1.46(0.89-2.39) and 1.63(0.95-2.79), respectively. Compared with the low ABSI/low CRP level group, the multivariate adjusted HRs(95% CI) of ischemic stroke in the low ABSI/high CRP, high ABSI/low CRP, and high ABSI/high CRP groups were 1.04(0.46-2.35), 1.06(0.58-1.95) and 2.52(1.27-5.00), respectively. The HR of ischemic stroke for the high ABSI/high CRP level group was the highest and most statistically significant. Conclusion We found that participants with simultaneously high ABSI and high CRP levels had the highest risk of ischemic stroke in the Mongolian population. | 9 | Combined Effects of Family History of Cardiovascular Disease and Serum C-reactive Protein Level on the Risk of Stroke: A 9.2-year Prospective Study among Mongolians in China显示文摘Objective We aimed to evaluate the combined effect of a family history of cardiovascular disease(CVD) and high serum C‐reactive protein(CRP) on the stroke incidence in an Inner Mongolian population in China. Methods A prospective cohort study was conducted from June 2002 to July 2012, with 2,544 participants aged 20 years and over from Inner Mongolia, China. We categorized participants into four groups based on the family history of CVD and CRP levels. Results We adjusted for age; sex; smoking; drinking; hypertension; body mass index; waist circumference; and blood glucose, triglycerides, low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol, and high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Compared with the group with no family history of CVD/low CRP levels, the group with family history of CVD/high CRP levels had a hazard ratio(HR) of 1.78 [95% confidence interval(CI), 1.03‐3.07; P = 0.039] of stroke, and an HR of 2.14(95% CI, 1.09‐4.20; P = 0.027) of ischemic stroke. The HRs of hemorrhagic stroke for the other three groups were not statistically significant(all P > 0.05). | 10 | The Effects of Secondary Pneumonia on the Curative Efficacy of Multidrug-resistant Tuberculosis: A Retrospective Cohort Study显示文摘Tuberculosis (TB) is a formidable global health problem and ranks above HIV as the leading cause of death worldwide. In 2017, a total number of 10.0 million cases of TB were reported, which resulted in 1.3 million TB deaths. Resistance to standard anti-TB drugs poses a major threat to control of TB, and 450, 000 cases of multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) were estimated in 2017, which indicates the severity of the problem[1]. Pneumonia is one of the common infectious diseases that cause morbidity and mortality in China, causing approximately 2.5 million new cases and 125, 000 deaths annually[2]. Particularly, a high risk of pneumonia in TB was observed among patients with TB compared to that in the general population[3]. | 12 | Comparative Study of the Genetic Diversity, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Pathogenicity of Aeromonas Isolates from Clinical Patients and Healthy Individuals显示文摘Objective This study was performed to compare the genetic diversity,virulence,and antimicrobial resistance of Aeromonas strains isolated from patients and healthy individuals.Methods A total of 38 clinical strains and 19 strains from healthy individuals were isolated from the samples collected in Ma’anshan City,Anhui Province.Their taxonomy was investigated using concatenated gyrB-cpn60 sequences,and their resistance to 12 antibiotics was evaluated.The pathogenicity of these strains was examined through beta-hemolysis,protease activity,and virulence gene assays.Results The 57 Aeromonas strains were divided into 55 sequence types.Of these types,21 were novel,suggesting that their genetic diversity was high.These Aeromonas isolates could be divided into 7 species,and the positive rates of beta-hemolysis and protease activity were 49.1%and 73.7%,respectively.The detection rate of clinical patients in terms of beta-hemolysis and protease activity was higher than that of healthy individuals.Among the four most common Aeromonas strains,A.dhakensis had the highest detection rate of virulence genes.The multidrug resistance rate of the clinical isolates was much higher than that of the strains isolated from healthy individuals.Conclusions The taxonomy,virulence properties,and antibiotic resistance of Aeromonas isolates from patients differ from those of the isolates from healthy individuals. | MENG Shuang DU Xiao Li WANG Yong Lu QU Feng Tian XIE Gui Lin ZHOU Hai Jian HU Jin Rui QIN Zheng WANG Yue KAN Biao CUI Zhi Gang | 2021 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2021,34,6: | 2 |
