| 6 | Derivation of Cloud-Free-Region Atmospheric Motion Vectors from FY-2E Thermal Infrared Imagery显示文摘The operational cloud-motion tracking technique fails to retrieve atmospheric motion vectors(AMVs) in areas lacking cloud; and while water vapor shown in water vapor imagery can be used, the heights assigned to the retrieved AMVs are mostly in the upper troposphere. As the noise-equivalent temperature difference(NEd T) performance of FY-2E split window(10.3–11.5 μm, 11.6–12.8 μm) channels has been improved, the weak signals representing the spatial texture of water vapor and aerosols in cloud-free areas can be strengthened with algorithms based on the difference principle, and applied in calculating AMVs in the lower troposphere. This paper is a preliminary summary for this purpose, in which the principles and algorithm schemes for the temporal difference, split window difference and second-order difference(SD) methods are introduced. Results from simulation and cases experiments are reported in order to verify and evaluate the methods, based on comparison among retrievals and the 'truth'. The results show that all three algorithms, though not perfect in some cases,generally work well. Moreover, the SD method appears to be the best in suppressing the surface temperature influence and clarifying the spatial texture of water vapor and aerosols. | 8 | Influence of Temperature and Frequency on Microwave Dielectric Properties of Lunar Regolith Simulant显示文摘The dielectric constant of the lunar regolith can directly influence the reflection coefficient and the trans-mission coefficient of the Moon′s surface, and plays an important role in the Moon research. In order to study the di-electric properties of the lunar regolith, the lunar regolith simulant was made according to the making procedure of the CAS-1 simulant made by Chinese Academy of Sciences. Then the dielectric constants of the lunar regolith simulant were measured with 85070E Aiglent Microwave Network Analyzer in the frequency ranging from 0.2 GHz to 20.0 GHz and at temperature of 25.1℃, 17.7℃, 13.1℃, 11.5℃, 9.6℃, 8.0℃, 4.1℃, -0.3℃, -4.7℃, -9.5℃, -18.7℃, -27.7℃, and -32.6℃, respectively. The Odelevsky model was employed to remove the influence of water in the air on the final effective dielectric constants. The results indicate that frequency and temperature have apparent influences on the dielectric constants of the lunar regolith simulant. The real parts of the dielectric constants increase fast over the range of 0.2 GHz to 3.0 GHz, but decrease slowly over the range of 4.0 GHz to 20.0 GHz. The opposite phenomenon occurs in the imaginary parts. The influences of the frequency and temperature on the brightness temperature were also estimated based on the radiative transfer equation. | 9 | Dynamic failure risk of coal pillar formed by irregular shape longwall face:A case study显示文摘Irregular shape workface would result in the presence of coal pillar, which leads to high stress concentration and possibly induces coal bumps. In order to study the coal bump mechanism of pillars, static and dynamic stress overlapping(SDSO) method was proposed to explain the impacts of static stress concentration and tremors induced by mining activities. The stress and deformation in surrounding rock of mining face were analyzed based on the field case study at 1303 workface in Zhaolou Coal Mine in China.The results illustrate that the surrounding rock of a workface could be divided into four different zones,i.e., residual stress zone, stress decrease zone, stress increase zone and original stress zone. The stress increase zone is prone to failure under the SDSO impact loading conditions and will provide elastic energy for inducing coal bump. Based on the numerical modelling results, the evolution of static stress in coal pillar as the size of gob increasing was studied, and the impact of dynamic stress was investigated through analyzing the characteristics of tremor activities. The numerical results demonstrate the peak value of vertical stress in coal pillar rises from about 30 MPa with mining distance 10 m to 52.6 MPa with mining distance 120 m, and the location of peak stress transfers to the inner zone of coal pillars as the workface moves forward. | 11 | The design and construction of a pulsed beam generation system based on high intensity cyclotron显示文摘In order to perform the studies on a pulsed beam generation system based on a high intensity cyclotron, a test beam line with a pulsed beam generation for a 10 MeV compact cyclotron (CYCIAE-10) has been designed and constructed at China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE). A 70 MHz continuous H- beam can be pulsed to the pulse length of less than 10 ns with a repetition rate of 4.4 MHz. The sine waveform with a frequency of 2.2 MHz is adopted for the chopper and a mesh structure with single drift and dual gaps is used for the 70 MHz buncher. A helical resonator is designed and constructed based on simulations and experiments on the RF matching for the chopper. A helical inductance loop that is exceptionally large of its kind and equipped with water cooling for the resonator has been successfully wound and a 500 W solid RF amplifier has been manufactured. A special measuring device has been designed, which can be used to measure both the DC beam and the pulsed beam. | 13 | High-Throughput Rice Density Estimation from Transplantation to Tillering Stages Using Deep Networks显示文摘Rice density is closely related to yield estimation,growth diagnosis,cultivated area statistics,and management and damage evaluation.Currently,rice density estimation heavily relies on manual sampling and counting,which is inefficient and inaccurate.With the prevalence of digital imagery,computer vision(CV)technology emerges as a promising alternative to automate this task.However,challenges of an in-field environment,such as illumination,scale,and appearance variations,render gaps for deploying CV methods.To fill these gaps towards accurate rice density estimation,we propose a deep learningbased approach called the Scale-Fusion Counting Classification Network(SFC^(2)Net)that integrates several state-of-the-art computer vision ideas.In particular,SFC^(2)Net addresses appearance and illumination changes by employing a multicolumn pretrained network and multilayer feature fusion to enhance feature representation.To ameliorate sample imbalance engendered by scale,SFC^(2)Net follows a recent blockwise classification idea.We validate SFC^(2)Net on a new rice plant counting(RPC)dataset collected from two field sites in China from 2010 to 2013.Experimental results show that SFC^(2)Net achieves highly accurate counting performance on the RPC dataset with a mean absolute error(MAE)of 25.51,a root mean square error(MSE)of 38.06,a relative MAE of 3.82%,and a R^(2) of 0.98,which exhibits a relative improvement of 48.2%w.r.t.MAE over the conventional counting approach CSRNet.Further,SFC^(2)Net provides high-throughput processing capability,with 16.7 frames per second on 1024×1024 images.Our results suggest that manual rice counting can be safely replaced by SFC^(2)Net at early growth stages.Code and models are available online at https://git.io/sfc2net. | Liang Liu Hao Lu Yanan Li Zhiguo Cao | 2020 | Plant Phenomics2020,2,1: | 2 |

| 16 | Motor neuron replacement therapy for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis显示文摘Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a motor neuron degenerative disease that is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease in the United States,Charcot’s disease in France,and motor neuron disease in the UK.The loss of motor neurons causes muscle wasting,paralysis,and eventually death,which is commonly related to respiratory failure,within 3-5 years after onset of the disease.Although there are a limited number of drugs approved for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,they have had little success at treating the associated symptoms,and they cannot reverse the course of motor neuron degeneration.Thus,there is still a lack of effective treatment for this debilitating neurodegenerative disorder.Stem cell therapy for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a very attractive strategy for both basic and clinical researchers,particularly as transplanted stem cells and stem cell-derived neural progenitor/precursor cells can protect endogenous motor neurons and directly replace the lost or dying motor neurons.Stem cell therapies may also be able to re-establish the motor control of voluntary muscles.Here,we review the recent progress in the use of neural stem cells and neural progenitor cells for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.We focus on MN progenitor cells derived from fetal central nervous system tissue,embryonic stem cells,and induced pluripotent stem cells.In our recent studies,we found that transplanted human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived motor neuron progenitors survive well,differentiate into motor neurons,and extend axons into the host white matter,not only in the rostrocaudal direction,but also along motor axon tracts towards the ventral roots in the immunodeficient rat spinal cord.Furthermore,the significant motor axonal extension after neural progenitor cell transplantation in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis models demonstrates that motor neuron replacement therapy could be a promising therapeutic strategy for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,particularly as a variety of stem cell derivatives,including induced pluripotent stem cells,are being considered for clinical trials for various diseases. | Bochao Liu Mo Li Lingyan Zhang Zhiguo Chen Paul Lu | 2022 | Neural Regeneration Research2022,17,8: | 2 |
| 17 | Disuccinimidyl suberate cross-linked hemoglobin as a novel red blood cell substitute显示文摘Disuccinimidyl suberate (DSS) intramolecularly cross-linked hemoglobin (Hb) was developed as a novel red blood cell substitute. A multi-angle laser light scattering detector coupled with size exclusion HPLC was applied to determine the molecular weight of the modified Hb. SDS-PAGE was also used as a complement. It was proved that 83.8% of the product was intramolecularly cross-linked Hb with weight-average molecular weights (Mw) of 67.5 kD, 12% was dimeric Hb with Mw of 146.6 kD, and 4.2% was trimeric Hb with Mw of 306.4 kD. The tetramer structure of the cross-linked Hb was stable as shown in size-exclusion chromatography using a mobile phase containing 1 mol/L MgCl2. Analysis by LC-MS demonstrated that the reaction of DSS with Hb mainly took place between the twoα subunits within a Hb molecule, resulting in stabilization of the tetramer structure. However, the cross-linking was not site-specific. The P50 of the cross-linked Hb decreased from 21.8 mmHg to 14.3 mmHg, and the Hill coefficient decreased from 2.22 to 1.41. Result of isoelectric focusing showed that the pI of DSS cross-linked Hb was in the range of 4.6-5.2, similar to that of serum albumin. The safety of DSS cross-linked Hb was favored by animal tests on rats and guinea pigs. Exchange transfusion experiment with DSS cross-linked Hb using rats as a model indicated no pressor effect or other significant side effects.
