1Tree-ring precipitation records from Baiyinaobao, Inner Mongolia since A.D. 1838显示文摘Correlation function analysis shows that total precipitation from April to early July (to July 10) in growing season limits the ring width of Picea Koraiensis significantly in Baiyinaobao, Xilinhot, Inner Mongolia. Thus a transfer function is designed to reconstruct the total precipitation from April to early July over the region for the last 160 years. The explained variance of the reconstruction is 49.3% (and 45.7% when adjusted for loss of degrees of freedom, N = 31, r = 0.702, F = 13.608, p < 0.0001). There are three relatively wet periods in the reconstruction which are: 1869—1875, 18861921 and 19431968, and four relatively dry periods: 1851—1868, 1876—1885, 1922—1943 and 1969—1999. Among them, the wet periods of 1886—1921 and 1943—1968, and the dry period of 1922—1943 appeared almost at the same time with those in Mt. Qilian region. Meanwhile, the dry period of 1922—1943 corresponds to high temperature and low rainfall during the 1920s and thereafter, and wetness of 1943—1968 corresponds very well to low temperature and more precipitation after the 1940s in Northwest, Northern China and the Changjiang River drainage basin. Calculation shows that the reconstruction series is significantly correlated with local dry-wet index (r = -0.234, p < 0.007, N = 143). Wavelet analysis indicates that there is a 22-a cycle in the precipitation of April to early July during 18381920, and an 11-a cycle during 1920—1952. No more cycles that reach 95% confidence limits are identified after 1953. The precipitation from April to early July quickly dropped into low during the 1920s. 2Amplitudes, rates, periodicities and causes of temperature variations in the past 2485 years and future trends over the central-eastern Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Amplitudes, rates, periodicities, causes and future trends of temperature variations based on tree rings for the past 2485 years on the central-eastern Tibetan Plateau were analyzed. The results showed that extreme climatic events on the Plateau, such as the Medieval Warm Period, Little Ice Age and 20th Century Warming appeared synchronously with those in other places worldwide. The largest amplitude and rate of temperature change occurred during the Eastern Jin Event (343-425 AD), and not in the late 20th century. There were significant cycles of 1324 a, 800 a, 199 a, 110 a and 2-3 a in the 2485-year temperature series. The 1324 a, 800 a, 199 a and 110 a cycles are associated with solar activity, which greatly affects the Earth surface temperature. The long-term trends (>1000 a) of temperature were controlled by the millennium-scale cycle, and amplitudes were dominated by multi-century cycles. Moreover, cold intervals corresponded to sunspot minimums. 3Analysis of bacterial community in bulking sludge using culture-dependent and -independent approaches显示文摘The bacterial community of a bulking sludge from a municipal wastewater treatment plant with anoxic-anaerobic-oxic process was investigated by combination of cultivation and 16S rRNA gene clone library analysis for understanding the causes of bulking.A total of 28 species were obtained from 63 isolates collected from six culture media.The most cultivable species belonged to γ-Proteobacteria including Klebsiella sp.,Pseudomonas sp.,Aeromonas sp.and Acinetobacter sp.Further analysis of these strains by repetitive sequence based on polymerase chain reaction (rep-PCR) technology showed that rep-PCR yielded discriminatory banding patterns within the same genus using REP and BOX primer sets.While the culture-independent assessment revealed that β-Proteobacteria was the dominant group in the bulking sample.Sequence analysis revealed that the highest proportion (14.7%) of operational taxonomic units was 98% similar to Candidatus Accumulibacter phosphatis,which is used to remove phosphorous from wastewater.Our results indicated that combining different approaches can produce complementary information,thus generate a more accurate view of microbial community in bulking sludge.Decai Jin Ping Wang Zhihui Bai Xinxin Wang Hong Peng Rong Qi Zhisheng Yu Guoqiang Zhuang 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,11:11
4Distributed consensus for multiple Euler-Lagrange systems: An event-triggered approach显示文摘Distributed consensus problems for multiple Euler-Lagrange systems are addressed on the basis of event-triggered information in this study. Distributed consensus protocols are first designed in terms of two event-triggered scenarios: a decentralized strategy and a distributed strategy. Sufficient conditions that guarantee the event-triggered consensus for multiple Euler-Lagrange systems are then presented, with the associated advantages of reducing controller update times. It is shown that the Zeno behavior of triggering time sequences is excluded for both strategies. 5The forecast of seasonal precipitation trend at the north Helan Mountain and Baiyinaobao regions, Inner Mongolia for the next 20 years显示文摘By using Caterpillar-SSA analysis method, through the process of embedding, singular value decompo-sition, grouping and diagonal averaging, the seasonal pre-cipitation trend at north Helan Mountain and Baiyinaobo regions, Inner Mongolia for the next 20 years is forecasted. The results show an increasing precipitation trend from 1992 to 2004. In the subsequent decade the precipitation should reduce quickly, and it will reach a minimum near 2012 to 2014 in both regions. The drought caused by the decrease of the precipitation from May to July in the north Helan Mountain area during the period of 2013—2014 is probably quite similar to that around 1929. 6Molecular analysis of long-term biofilm formation on PVC and cast iron surfaces in drinking water distribution system显示文摘To understand the impacts of different plumbing materials on long-term biofilm formation in water supply system, we analyzed microbial community compositions in the bulk water and biofilms on faucets with two different materials-polyvinyl chloride(PVC) and cast iron, which have been frequently used for more than10 years. Pyrosequencing was employed to describe both bacterial and eukaryotic microbial compositions. Bacterial communities in the bulk water and biofilm samples were significantly different from each other. Specific bacterial populations colonized on the surface of different materials. Hyphomicrobia and corrosion associated bacteria, such as Acidithiobacillus spp., Aquabacterium spp., Limnobacter thiooxidans, and Thiocapsa spp., were the most dominant bacteria identified in the PVC and cast iron biofilms, respectively, suggesting that bacterial colonization on the material surfaces was selective. Mycobacteria and Legionella spp. were common potential pathogenic bacteria occurred in the biofilm samples, but their abundance was different in the two biofilm bacterial communities. In contrast, the biofilm samples showed more similar eukaryotic communities than the bulk water. Notably, potential pathogenic fungi, i.e., Aspergillus spp. and Candida parapsilosis, occurred in similar abundance in both biofilms. 8Detection of Lactobacillus acidophilus in Fermented Material by Real-time Fluorescent Quantitative PCR显示文摘The species distinctive PCR primer of Lactobacillus acidophilus( L. acidophilus) was designed according to 16 S rRNA gene sequences of common Lactobacillus species in fermented material. Bacterial genome DNA of separated L. acidophilus in fermented sample was taken as template,and L. acidophilus in fermented material was conducted the quantitative determination by real-time quantitative PCR( RT-PCR). Analysis on RT-PCR results shown that contents of L. acidophilus in the test sample reached 1. 5 billion CFU / g. 9Molecular characterization of microbial communities in bioaerosols of a coal mine by 454 pyrosequencing and real-time PCR显示文摘Microbial diversity and abundance in bioaerosols of a coal mine were analyzed based on 454 pyrosequencing and real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR). A total of 37,191 high quality sequences were obtained and could be classified into 531, 1730 and 448 operational taxonomic units respectively for archaea, bacteria and fungi at 97% sequence similarity. The Shannon diversity index for archaea, bacteria and fungi was respectively 4.71, 6.29 and 3.86, indicating a high diversity in coal mine bioaerosols. Crenarchaeota, Proteobacteria and Ascomycota were the dominant phyla for archaea, bacteria and fungi, respectively. The concentrations of total archaea, bacteria and fungi were 1.44 × 108, 1.02 × 108 and 9.60 × 104cells/m3, respectively.Methanotrophs observed in bioaerosols suggested possible methane oxidation in the coal mine. The identified potential pathogens to coal miners, such as Acinetobacter schindleri,Aeromonas cavernicola, Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus penicillioides, Cladosporium cladosporioides,and Penicillium brevicompactum were also observed. This was the first investigation of microbial diversity and abundance in coal mine bioaerosols. 11Use of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin Ⅱ receptor blockers in context of COVID-19 outbreak:a retrospective analysis显示文摘The possible effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors(ACEIs)or angiotensin Ⅱ receptor blockers(ARBs)on COVID-19 disease severity have generated considerable debate.We performed a single-center,retrospective analysis of hospitalized adult COVID-19 patients in Wuhan,China,who had definite clinical outcome(dead or discharged)by February 15,2020.Patients on anti-hypertensive treatment with or without ACEI/ARB were compared on their clinical characteristics and outcomes.The medical records from 702 patients were screened.Among the 101 patients with a history of hypertension and taking at least one anti-hypertensive medication,40 patients were receiving ACEI/ARB as part of their regimen,and 61 patients were on antihypertensive medication other than ACEI/ARB.We observed no statistically significant differences in percentages of in-hospital mortality(28%vs.34%,P=0.46),ICU admission(20%vs.28%,P=0.37)or invasive mechanical ventilation(18%vs.26%,P=0.31)between patients with or without ACEI/ARB treatment.Further multivariable adjustment of age and gender did not provide evidence for a significant association between ACEI/ARB treatment and severe COVID-19 outcomes.Our findings confirm the lack of an association between chronic receipt of reninangiotensin system antagonists and severe outcomes of COVID-19.Patients should continue previous antihypertensive therapy until further evidence is available.Jiuyang Xu Chaolin Huang Guohui Fan Zhibo Liu Lianhan Shang Fei Zhou Yeming Wang Jiapei Yu Luning Yang Ke Xie Zhisheng Huang Lixue Huang Xiaoying Gu Hui Li Yi Zhang Yimin Wang Frederick G.Hayden Peter W.Horby Bin Cao Chen Wang 2020Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,5:2
12Trace elements in tree rings and their environmental effects: A case study in Xi’an City显示文摘Using wet digested method and ICP mass spectrometer, we analyzed the concentration of five trace elements (Cd, Mn, P, Zn and Pb) for the tree rings from both urban and suburbs of Xi'an. At the urban sampling site, one Chinese mahogany (Toona sinensis) disc and one phoenix tree (Firmiana simplex) disc were sampled from a steelworks in Xi'an City. At the suburb site, a Chinese mahogany disc was collected from a village in the south of the City. In addition, some soils near the roots of the sampled trees were collected. The analysis results indicate that the concentration of each of the five elements in annual rings has a positive correlation with the production of the steelworks. Statistical calculations show that Pb and Mn elements were stable without lag effects. That means these two elements do not move between rings. Cd displayed one year moving, P two years and Zn three years. 13Inhibitor tolerance and bioethanol fermentability of levoglucosan-utilizing Escherichia coli were enhanced by overexpression of stress-responsive gene ycfR:The proteomics-guided metabolic engineering显示文摘Pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass is crucial for the release of biofermentable sugars for biofuels production,which could greatly alleviate the burgeoning environment and energy crisis caused by the massive usage of traditional fossil fuels.Pyrolysis is a cost-saving pretreatment process that can readily decompose biomass into levoglucosan,a promising anhydrosugar;however,many undesired toxic compounds inhibitory to downstream microbial fermentation are also generated during the pyrolysis,immensely impeding the bioconversion of levoglucosan-containing pyrolysate.Here,we took the first insight into the proteomic responses of a levoglucosan-utilizing and ethanol-producing Escherichia coli to three representative biomass-derived inhibitors,identifying large amounts of differentially expressed proteins(DEPs)that could guide the downstream metabolic engineering for the development of inhibitor-resistant strains.Fifteen up-and eight down-regulated DEPs were further identified as the biomarker stress-responsive proteins candidate for cellular tolerance to multiple inhibitors.Among these biomarker proteins,YcfR exhibiting the highest expression fold-change level was chosen as the target of overexpression to validate proteomics results and develop robust strains with enhanced inhibitor tolerance and fermentation performance.Finally,based on four plasmid-borne genes encoding the levoglucosan kinase,pyruvate decarboxylase,alcohol dehydrogenase,and protein YcfR,a new recombinant strain E.coli LGE-ycfR was successfully created,showing much higher acetic acid-,furfural-,and phenol-tolerance levels compared to the control without overexpression of ycfR.The specific growth rate,final cell density,ethanol concentration,ethanol productivity,and levoglucosan consumption rate of the recombinant were also remarkably improved.From the proteomics-guided metabolic engineering and phenotypic observations,we for the first time corroborated that YcfR is a stress-induced protein responsive to multiple biomass-derived inhibitors,and also developed an inhibitors-resistant strain that could produce bioethanol from levoglucosan in the presence of inhibitors of relatively high concentration.The newly developed E.coli LGE-ycfR strain that could eliminate the commonly-used costly detoxicification processes,is of great potential for the in situ cost-effective bioethanol production from the biomass-derived pyrolytic substrates.Dongdong Chang Zia Ul Islam Junfang Zheng Jie Zhao Xiaoyong Cui Zhisheng Yu 2021Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2021,6,4:1

17Heat-treated glassy carbon under pressure exhibiting superior hardness,strength and elasticity显示文摘Glassy carbon(GC)is a type of non-graphitizing disordered carbon material at ambient pressure and high temperatures,which has been widely used due to its excellent mechanical properties.Here we report the changes in the microstructure and mechanical properties of GC treated at high pressures(up to 5 GPa)and high temperatures.The formation of intermediate sp2-sp3 phases is identified at moderate treatment temperatures before the complete graphitization of GC,by analyzing synchrotron X-ray diffraction,Raman spectra,and transmission electron microscopy images.The intermediate metastable carbon materials exhibit superior mechanical properties with hardness reaching up to 10 GPa and compressive strength reaching as high as 2.5 GPa,nearly doubling those of raw GC,and improving elasticity and thermal stability.The synthesis pressure used in this study can be achieved in the industry on a commercial scale,enabling the scalable synthesis of this type of strong,hard,and elastic carbon materials.Meng Hu Shuangshuang Zhang Bing Liu Yingju Wu Kun Luo Zihe Li Mengdong Ma Dongli Yu Lingyu Liu Yufei Gao Zhisheng Zhao Yoshio Kono Ligang Bai Guoyin Shen Wentao Hu Yang Zhang Ralf Riedel Bo Xu Julong He Yongjun Tian 2021Journal of Materiomics2021,7,1:1
