| 1 | Wnt and BMP signaling crosstalk in regulating dental stem cells:Implications in dental tissue engineering显示文摘Tooth is a complex hard tissue organ and consists of multiple cell types that are regulated by important signaling pathways such as Wnt and BMP signaling.Serious injuries and/or loss of tooth or periodontal tissues may significantly impact aesthetic appearance,essential oral functions and the quality of life.Regenerative dentistry holds great promise in treating oral/dental disorders.The past decade has witnessed a rapid expansion of our understanding of the biological features of dental stem cells,along with the signaling mechanisms governing stem cell self-renewal and differentiation.In this review,we first summarize the biological characteristics of seven types of dental stem cells,including dental pulp stem cells,stem cells from apical papilla,stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth,dental follicle precursor cells,periodontal ligament stem cells,alveolar bone-derived mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs),and MSCs from gingiva.We then focus on how these stem cells are regulated by bone morphogenetic protein(BMP)and/or Wnt signaling by examining the interplays between these pathways.Lastly,we analyze the current status of dental tissue engineering strategies that utilize oral/dental stem cells by harnessing the interplays between BMP and Wnt pathways.We also highlight the challenges that must be addressed before the dental stem cells may reach any clinical applications.Thus,we can expect to witness significant progresses to be made in regenerative dentistry in the coming decade. | Fugui Zhang Jinlin Song Hongmei Zhang Enyi Huang Dongzhe Song Viktor Tollemar Jing Wang Jinhua Wang Maryam Mohammed Qiang Wei Jiaming Fan Junyi Liao Yulong Zou Feng Liu Xue Hu Xiangyang Qu Liqun Chen Xinyi Yu Hue H.Luu Michael J.Lee Tong-Chuan He Ping Ji | 2016 | Genes & Diseases2016,3,4: | 16 |
| 2 | Identification of microRNA transcriptome reveals that miR-100 is involved in the renewal of porcine intestinal epithelial cells显示文摘MicroRNAs play important roles in various cellular processes, including differentiation, proliferation and survival. Using a pig model, this study sought to identify the miRNAs responsible for crypt-villus axis renewal of the small intestinal epithelium.Compared to the villus upper cells, there were 15 up-regulated and 41 down-regulated miRNAs in the crypt cells of the jejunum.Notably, we found that miR-100 was expressed more in the villus upper cells than in the crypt cells, suggesting an effect on intestinal epithelium differentiation. Overexpression of miR-100 increased the activity of alkaline phosphatase, confirming that miR-100 promoted IPEC-J2 cell differentiation. MiR-100 can inhibit cell proliferation as evidenced by CCK-8 and cell cycle assay results. We also showed that miR-100 significantly inhibited the migration of IPEC-J2 cells and promoted cell apoptosis through caspase-3-dependent cleavage of Bcl-2. Furthermore, FGFR3 was identified as a potential target of miR-100 by bioinformatics analysis. We confirmed that overexpression of miR-100 suppressed FGFR3 expression in IPEC-J2 cells by directly targeting the FGFR3 3′-UTR. | 4 | Channel Estimation and Throughput Evaluation for 5G Wireless Communication Systems in Various Scenarios on High Speed Railways显示文摘The fifth generation(5 G) wireless communication is currently a hot research topic and wireless communication systems on high speed railways(HSR) are important applications of 5 G technologies. Existing studies about 5 G wireless systems on high speed railways(HSR) often utilize ideal channel parameters and are usually based on simple scenarios. In this paper, we evaluate the downlink throughput of 5 G HSR communication systems on three typical scenarios including urban, cutting and viaduct with three different channel estimators. The channel parameters of each scenario are generated with tapped delay line(TDL) models through ray-tracing simulations, which can be considered as a good match to practical situations. The channel estimators including least square(LS), linear minimum mean square error(LMMSE), and our proposed historical information based basis expansion model(Hi BEM). We analyze the performance of the Hi BEM estimator in terms of mean square error(MSE) and evaluate the system throughputs with different channel estimates over each scenario. Simulation results are then provided to corroborate our proposed studies. | 5 | Detection time analysis for the multiple-user cooperative spectrum sensing scheme in cognitive radio networks显示文摘In this paper, a novel multiple-user cooperative spectrum sensing (MCSS) scheme is proposed to achieve the spatial diversity gains for cognitive radio (CR) networks, where only the best relay, selected among all the candidate relays in accordance with the quality of channel conditions, is utilized to cooperatively detect the primary user. Closed-form expressions of detection time for the traditional non-cooperative and the proposed MCSS schemes are derived over Rayleigh fading channels. In addition, numerical experimentations are conducted to make a performance comparison between the noncooperative sensing and our scheme. | 6 | Synthesis and Characterization of Disodium Hydrogen Phosphate Dodecahydrate-Lauric-Palmitic Acid Used for Indoor Energy Storage Floor Units显示文摘Organic and inorganic phase change materials(PCMs) are considered potential materials for thermal energy storage(TES) with different phase change characteristics. In this study, a novel organic-inorganic composite phase change material(PCM) called disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate-lauric-palmitic acid(D-LA-PACM) was prepared. Expanded graphite(EG) was selected as the support material, and the novel organic-inorganic form-stable PCM called D-LA-PAPCM/EG was prepared using the vacuum adsorption method. Differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, leakage testing, melting and solidification cycle testing, thermal conductivity testing, scanning electron microscopy observation of the micromorphology, and other characterization methods were used to study the microstructure and morphology, thermal physical parameters, thermal conductivity, stability of the PCMs, and the comprehensive material properties of D-LA-PAPCM under the composite action of EG. Results indicated that the melting and freezing temperatures and latent heats of D-LA-PAPCM/EG were measured to be 31.6℃ and 34.3℃ and 142.9 and 142.8 J/g, respectively. Although some of the lauric-palmitic acid(LA-PA) and disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate(DHPD) separated in the multiple porous structures of EG after 1000 cycles, they could still absorb and release latent heats independently, with D-LA-PAPCM/EG still exhibiting good thermal stability. The thermal conductivity of D-LA-PAPCM/EG was 1.361 W/(m·K). | 7 | Effect of externally applied Jidesheng anti-venom on skin and soft-tissue necrosis after Chinese cobra bite: a retrospective study显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of Jidesheng anti-venom used externally for skin and soft-tissue necrosis from Chinese cobra bite.METHODS: A retrospective review was performed according to the clinical data recorded from January 2002 to December 2012. A total of 126 patients(116 females and 10 males) with skin and soft-tissue necrosis due to Chinese cobra bite were divided into two groups. The control group was treated externally with 40% glyceride magnesium sulfate(n=52), and the treatment group was given Jidesheng anti-venom externally(n=74). The data collected included maximum local necrotic area of skin and soft tissues, de-tumescence time, healing time,and skin-grafting rate.RESULTS: There were no significant differences in gender, age, and disease condition between the control and treatment groups(P>0.05). No statistically significant difference was found in de-tumescence time between the two groups(P>0.05). The maximum local necrotic area of skin and soft tissues was(19.9 ± 7.3) cm2in the treatment group,while it was(23.3±6.4) cm2in the control group.The healing time of the treatment group was shorter than that of the control group [(32.1 ± 3.7) vs(34.4±4.5) days)] The skin-grafting rate in the treatment group was lower than that of the control group(10.81% vs 25.00%). | 12 | Ag-Pd alloy decorated ZnIn_(2)S_(4) microspheres with optimal Schottky barrier height for boosting visible-light-driven hydrogen evolution显示文摘Rapid charge carrier recombination rate and insufficient light harvesting capacity are two dominat-ing drawbacks encountered in zinc indium sulfide(ZnIn_(2)S_(4))for photocatalytic applications.Herein,a chemical reduction method was performed to combine bimetallic Ag-Pd alloy nanoparticles(NPs)with spherical-like ZnIn_(2)S_(4)(ZIS).By optimizing Ag:Pd molar ratio and overall loading amount,the optimal Ag_(0.25)Pd_(0.75)-ZIS sample exhibited a maximum H_(2)evolution rate(125.4μmol/h)under visible light,which was higher than that of ZIS,Ag-ZIS and Pd-ZIS.The loading of Ag NPs contribution to PHE reaction by its plasmonic effect was negligible compared to that of Pd loading(Schottky effect).The apparent quan-tum yield(AQY)values over Ag_(0.25)Pd_(0.75)-ZIS sample could reach up to 18.3%at 400 nm and 15.8%at 420 nm.The enhanced activity for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution(PHE)over Ag_(0.25)Pd_(0.75)-ZIS sample was mainly due to the bimetallic synergistic effect that presented as follows.Firstly,the plasmon hy-bridization by loading Ag-Pd bimetallic alloy can significantly increase light harvesting capacity of ZIS.Secondly,the optimal Schottky barrier height formed between Ag-Pd alloy and ZIS interface was benefi-cial for prolonging electron-hole pair lifetimes,promoting charge carrier separation and thus facilitating PHE efficiency.Density functional theory(DFT)analysis indicated that the adsorption energy of H∗over Pd_(0.75)Ag_(0.25)alloy was very close to zero and thus theoretically possessed the highest activity for H_(2)evo-lution,which is in line with experimental results.Combined theoretical calculation with experimental results,a reasonable photocatalytic mechanism was proposed and verified. | Chao Liu Yulong Zhang Jiaxin Wu Hailu Dai Chengjian Ma Qinfang Zhang Zhigang Zou | 2022 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,19: | 1 |

| 16 | Effects of daily light integral on tomato(Solanum lycopersicon L.)grafting and quality in a controlled environment显示文摘As the source of energy and biological signals,light can influence the healing process of grafted seedlings by regulating the synthesis of the endogenous hormone,regeneration of wound-healing tissue,and connection of vascular tissue in grafted seedlings.The effect of daily light integral(DLI)on the healing process and seedling quality of tomato(Solanum lycopersicum L.)was analyzed in this study,with the comparison of grafted seedlings treated in dark for 7 d after grafting.The results showed that the height increment of scion and rootstock,adhesion of graft union,stem flow,total chlorophyll content,and net photosynthesis rate increased gradually with increasing light intensity,and no longer increased significantly when the DLI was higher than 5.04 mol/m^(2)·d.The contents of auxin(IAA)and gibberellin(GA)in tomato leaves increased and abscisic acid(ABA)decreased with the increase of DLI.However,there was no significant difference between the treatments with DLI higher than 6.48 mol/m^(2)·d.Both the biomass and energy use efficiency(EUE)of grafted seedlings increased with DLI in a certain range and then decreased.The biomass was the largest when DLI was 5.04 mol/m^(2)·d.However,EUE was highest when DLI was 7.46 mol/m^(2)·d.In conclusion,a suitable DLI is beneficial to cultivate high-quality grafted tomato seedlings,and increasing DLI within a certain range can promote biomass accumulation,connection of vascular tissue,and endogenous hormone biosynthesis in tomato grafted seedlings during the healing period.The lighting environment with DLI of 5.04 mol/m^(2)·d(light intensity of 100μmol/m^(2)·s and light time of 14 h/d)is recommended for the healing treatment in high-quality production,which also improves EUE during the healing period of tomato grafted seedlings. | Jinxiu Song Yulong Fan Xingqun Li Yuzhu Li Hanping Mao Zhiyu Zuo Zhirong Zou | 2022 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2022,15,6: | 1 |
