2Wnt and BMP signaling crosstalk in regulating dental stem cells:Implications in dental tissue engineering显示文摘Tooth is a complex hard tissue organ and consists of multiple cell types that are regulated by important signaling pathways such as Wnt and BMP signaling.Serious injuries and/or loss of tooth or periodontal tissues may significantly impact aesthetic appearance,essential oral functions and the quality of life.Regenerative dentistry holds great promise in treating oral/dental disorders.The past decade has witnessed a rapid expansion of our understanding of the biological features of dental stem cells,along with the signaling mechanisms governing stem cell self-renewal and differentiation.In this review,we first summarize the biological characteristics of seven types of dental stem cells,including dental pulp stem cells,stem cells from apical papilla,stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth,dental follicle precursor cells,periodontal ligament stem cells,alveolar bone-derived mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs),and MSCs from gingiva.We then focus on how these stem cells are regulated by bone morphogenetic protein(BMP)and/or Wnt signaling by examining the interplays between these pathways.Lastly,we analyze the current status of dental tissue engineering strategies that utilize oral/dental stem cells by harnessing the interplays between BMP and Wnt pathways.We also highlight the challenges that must be addressed before the dental stem cells may reach any clinical applications.Thus,we can expect to witness significant progresses to be made in regenerative dentistry in the coming decade.Fugui Zhang Jinlin Song Hongmei Zhang Enyi Huang Dongzhe Song Viktor Tollemar Jing Wang Jinhua Wang Maryam Mohammed Qiang Wei Jiaming Fan Junyi Liao Yulong Zou Feng Liu Xue Hu Xiangyang Qu Liqun Chen Xinyi Yu Hue H.Luu Michael J.Lee Tong-Chuan He Ping Ji 2016Genes & Diseases2016,3,4:16
3Trunk detection based on laser radar and vision data fusion显示文摘Tree trunks detection and their location information are needed to perform effective production and management in forestry and fruit farming.A novel algorithm based on data fusion with a vision camera and a 2D laser scanner was developed to detect tree trunks accurately.The transformation was built from a laser coordinate system to an image coordinate system,and the model of a rectangle calibration plate with two inward concave regions was established to implement data alignment between two sensors data.Then,data fusion and decision with Dempster-Shafer theory were achieved through integration of decision level after designing and determining basic probability assignments of regions of interesting(RoIs)for laser and vision data respectively.Tree trunk width was calculated by using laser data to determine basic probability assignments of RoIs of laser data.And a stripping segmentation algorithm was presented to determine basic probability assignments of RoIs of vision data,by calculating the matching level of RoIs like tree trunks.A robot platform was used to acquire data from sensors and to perform the developed tree trunk detection algorithm.Combined calibration tests were conducted to calculate a conversion matrix transforming from the laser coordinate system to the image coordinate system,and then field experiments were carried out in a real pear orchard under sunny and cloudy conditions,with trunk width measurement of 120 trees and 40 images processed by the presented stripping segmentation algorithm.Results showed the algorithm was successful to detect tree trunks and data fusion improved the ability for tree trunk detection.This algorithm could provide a new method for tree trunk detection and accurate production and management in orchards.Jinlin Xue Bowen Fan Jia Yan Shuxian Dong Qishuo Ding 2018International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,6:2

7Effects of protein oxidation, cathepsins, and various freezing temperatures on the quality of superchilled sturgeon fillets显示文摘Many aquatic products have been stored using superchilling technology, but rarely used for the storage of sturgeon fillets. In this study, we investigated the effects of protein oxidation, cathepsin, and various freezing temperatures on the quality of superchilled sturgeon fillets. Sensory evaluation results showed that the sensory attributes of superchilled (−3 °C) sturgeon fillets were acceptable three times longer (18 days) than samples stored at refrigeration temperatures (4 °C). The sarcoplasmic protein, carbonyl, myofibrillar protein, total sulfhydryl content and the surface hydrophobicity were determined using fluorescence spectrophotometry and SDS-PAGE. Results showed that superchilling might protect myofibrillar proteins from oxidation compared to refrigeration temperatures. The activity of the three cathepsins (B, L, and H) in terms of myofibrillar, mitochondria, lysosomes, and sarcoplasm demonstrated that superchilling can inhibit cathepsins activity in sturgeon and protect its muscle structure. Microscopic observations showed that as the temperature decreased, the gap area of the muscle fibers decreased, and the deformation of cross-sectional slices was gradually reduced. In addition, the freezing rate of ice crystals produced during the freezing process influenced the muscle structure, texture, and sensory attributes. Superchilled sturgeon fillets showed good hardness, chewiness, and water retention. 10Visualized and precise design of artificial small RNAs for regulating T7 RNA polymerase and enhancing recombinant protein folding in Escherichia coli显示文摘Small non-coding RNAs(sRNAs)have received much attention in recent years due to their unique biological properties,which can efficiently and specifically tune target gene expressions in bacteria.Inspired by natural sRNAs,recent works have proposed the use of artificial sRNAs(asRNAs)as genetic tools to regulate desired gene that has been applied in several fields,such as metabolic engineering and bacterial physiology studies.However,the rational design of asRNAs is still a challenge.In this study,we proposed structure and length as two criteria to implement rational visualized and precise design of asRNAs.T7 expression system was one of the most useful recombinant protein expression systems.However,it was deeply limited by the formation of inclusion body.To settle this problem,we designed a series of asRNAs to inhibit the T7 RNA polymerase(Gene1)expression to balance the rate between transcription and folding of recombinant protein.Based on the heterologous expression of Aspergillus oryzae Li-3 glucuronidase in E.coli,the asRNA-antigene1-17bp can effectively decrease the inclusion body and increase the enzyme activity by 169.9%.Yujia Zhao Jingjing Fan Jinlin Li Jun Li Xiaohong Zhou Chun Li 2016Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2016,1,4:1
11Evaluation of fiber degree for fish muscle based on the edge feature attention net显示文摘The fiber mouthfeel of fish muscle is a highly sought-after goal for surimi gel products.The primary aim of research and development has been to quickly and accurately evaluate fiber degree for fish muscle.Therefore,based on the ResNet model,edge feature attentional mechanism was introduced to obtain the edge feature attention net (EFANet) to evaluate fiber degree for fish muscle.The EFANet was trained and tested on a dataset,which was made by collecting microscopic pictures of fish samples with different degrees of breakage.Compared with the three classic convolutional neural network (CNN) models,the EFANet emphasizes the learning of fiber texture information for fish muscle,reduces the effect of image color change,and significantly improves the detection accuracy.The average accuracy and specificity of the EFANet-50 on the testing dataset were 96.22% and 97.92%,respectively,which proved that it can effectively predict the fiber degree of fish muscle.Junhua Yu Jinlin Zhu Bowen Yan Xidong Jiao Jianlian Huang Jianxin Zhao Hao Zhang Wei Chen Daming Fan 2022Food Bioscience2022,47,3:1

15Construction and evaluation of fibrillar composite hydrogel of collagen/konjac glucomannan for potential biomedical applications显示文摘Konjac glucomannan(KGM)is recognized as a safe material for its health-promoting benefits and thus widely used in various fields including pharmaceutical industry.In recent decades,the combination of collagen and KGM attracts more attentions for biomedical purpose,especially the hybrid films of collagen-KGM or collagen-KGM-polysaccharide.In this study,to further and deeply develop the intrinsic values of both collagen and KGM as biomaterials,a novel kind of composite hydrogel comprising collagen and KGM at a certain ratio was fabricated under mild conditions via fibrillogenesis process of the aqueous blends of collagen and KGM that experienced deacetylation simultaneously.The chemical composition,microcosmic architectures,swelling behavior,biodegradation and dynamic mechanic properties of such resulted composite hydrogels were systematically investigated.Biologic experiments,including cell culture in vitro and hypodermic implantation in vivo,were also conducted on these collagen/KGM composite hydrogels to evaluate their biologic performances.The relevant results prove that,based on collagen self-assembly behavior,this synthesis strategy is efficient to construct a composite hydrogel of collagen/KGM with improved mechanical properties,biodegradability,excellent biocompatibility and bioactivity,which are promising for potential biomedical applications such as tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.Jiayuan Tang Jinlin Chen Jing Guo Qingrong Wei Hongsong Fan 2018Regenerative Biomaterials2018,5,4:0
16Differences in root stress and strain distribution in buccal and lingual orthodontics: A finite element analysis study显示文摘Orthodontic forces can cause stress and strain concentration and microcracks on tooth root surfaces.This study aimed to analyze whether a lingual orthodontic appliance was more likely to cause root stress concentration and root resorption than the traditional buccal appliance.A finite element model of the root of the maxillary central incisor with straight,buccal,and lingual curvatures was established.A load perpendicular to the tooth surface on the buccal and lingual surfaces of the central incisor was applied,and the stress and strain concentration at the root apex was compared.The stress and strain at the root apex of the lingual cingulum group were lesser than those of the buccal group;little difference was observed between the lingual and buccal clinical crown central augmentation groups.The stress and strain at the root apex of the lingual direction movement group were greater than those of the buccal direction movement group.The direction of the root curvature also influenced the amount of stress and strain at the root apex.The difference in the risk of root resorption between lingual and buccal orthodontics is dependent on the height of the bracket placement.The loading direction of the orthodontic force and direction of the root curvature also affect the stress and strain at the root apex.Shengzhao Xiao Xiangfei Kong Jie Yao Jinlin Liu Linhao Li Tianyun Jiang Lizhen Wang Yubo Fan 2022Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices2022,,2:0

18Dynamics of neutralizing antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2 in patients with COVID-19: an observational study显示文摘Our understanding of the protective immunity,particularly the long-term dynamics of neutralizing antibody(NAbs)response to SARS-CoV-2,is currently limited.We enrolled a cohort of 545 COVID-19 patients from Hubei,China,who were followed up up to 7 months,and determined the dynamics of NAbs to SARS-CoV-2 by using a surrogate virus neutralization test(sVNT).In our validation study,sVNT IC50 titers and the neutralization rate measured at a single dilution(1:20)were well correlated with FRNT titers(r=0.85 and 0.84,respectively).The median time to seroconversion of NAbs was 5.5 days post onset of symptoms.The rate of positive sVNT was 52% in the first week,reached 100% in the third week,and remained above 97% till 6 months post onset.Quantitatively,NAbs peaked in the fourth week and only a quarter of patients had an estimated peak titer of>1000.NAbs declined with a half-time of 61 days(95%CI:49-80 days)within the first two months,and the decay deaccelerated to a half-time of 104 days(95%CI:86-130 days)afterward.The peak levels of NAbs were positively associated with severity of COVID-19 and age,while negatively associated with serum albumin levels.The observation that the low-moderate peak neutralizing activity and fast decay of NAbs in most naturally infected individuals called for caution in evaluating the feasibility of antibody-based therapy and vaccine durability.NAbs response positively correlated with disease severity,warning for the possibility of repeat infection in patients with mild COVID-19.Xin Xu Sheng Nie Yanqun Wang Quanxin Long Hong Zhu Xiaoyong Zhang Jian Sun Qinglang Zeng Jincun Zhao Li Liu Ling Li Ailong Huang Jinlin Hou Fan Fan Hou 2021Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,6:0
19Effect of 3D anchorage attachment on the alleviating tipping/extrusion of premolars for en-mass distalization of maxillary molars with clear aligners:A finite element study显示文摘This study aimed to explore the optimal invisible orthodontic force system during the en-mass distalization of two maxillary molars to minimize the side effect of anchorage loss by changing the direction of the application of the orthodontic force system.A high bio-fidelity 3D finite element model including maxilla,periodontal ligament,dentition,clear aligner,3D anchorage attachment and mini-implant was established.Different lengths of lateral hooks of 3D-printed anchorage attachments and mini-implant positions into the palatal alveolus were considered.A 200 g distal force was applied to the lateral hooks of different horizontal lengths(3.26 mm,6.52 mm and 9.78 mm)with the mini-implant as the application point.Using ABAQUS software,orthodontic tooth movements under 12 different clinical treatment designs were analyzed and calculated.The 3D anchorage attachment enhanced the anchorage of anterior teeth and alleviated the tipping/extrusion of premolars.In contrast to without clear aligners,length of the lateral hook had a negligible effect on both mesial tipping and buccal tipping with clear aligners,which could then be ignored.The change in mesial tipping was less and nearly remained constant despite of the different heights of the mini-implant.The 3D anchorage attachment assisted clear aligner can avoid the side effects of anterior tooth proclination caused by insufficient anchorage.The length of the lateral hook,and height of the mini-implant in this invisible orthodontic force system hardly affects the tooth movement of anchorage units.Clear aligners can effectively control the rotation and tipping of anchorage units caused by 3D anchorage attachment.Lurong Jia Chunjuan Wang Yao He Chao Wang Antonio Apicella Jinlin Song Yubo Fan 2023Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices2023,,2:0
