3Palynological evidence for vegetational and climatic changes from the HQ deep drilling core in Yunnan Province, China显示文摘The high-resolution pollen study of a 737.72-m-long lake sediment core in the Heqing Basin of Yunnan Province shows that the vegetation and climate of mountains around the Heqing Basin went through six obvious changes since 2.780 Ma B.P. Namely, Pinus forest occupied most mountains around the studied area and the structure of vertical vegetational belt was simple between 2.780 and 2.729 Ma B.P., reflecting a relatively warm and dry climate. During 2.729―2.608 Ma B.P., the areas of cold-temperate conifer forest (CTCF) and Tsuga forest increased and the structure of vertical vegetational belt became clear. According to percentages of tropical and subtropical elements growing in low-altitude regions rifely increased, we speculate that the increase of CTCF and Tsuga forest areas mainly resulted from strong uplift of mountains which provided upward expanding space and growing condition for these plants. Thus, the climate of the low-altitude regions around the basin was relatively warm and humid. Between 2.608 and 1.553 Ma B.P., Pinus forest occupied most mountains around the studied area and forest line of CTCF rose, which reflects a moderately warm-dry climate on the whole. During 1.553―0.876 Ma B.P., the structure of vertical vegetational belt in mountains around the studied area became complicated and the amplitude of vegetational belts shifting up and down enlarged, which implies that the amplitude of climatic change increased, the climatic associational feature was more complex and the climate was moderately cold at a majority of the stage. During 0.876―0.252 Ma B.P., there were all vertical vegetational belts existing at present in mountains around the studied area. The elements of each belt were more abundant and complex than earlier. At different periods in the stage vertical vegetational belts occurred as expanding or shrinking, and alternated each other. The amplitude of vegetational belts shifting up and down was the maximum in the whole section. This change suggests that the amplitude of climatic change was evidently larger than earlier, but the frequency reduced and the climatic associational feature was more complex. From 0.252 Ma B.P. to the present, the most time was characteristic of the expanding of Pinus forest and semi-humid evergreen broad-leaved forest (SEBF) in mountains around the studied area, while expanding time of other vegetational belts was very short, which reflects a smaller amplitude of cold and warm fluctuation. On the basis of the six obvious cycles of vegetational and climatic changes, there were still many times of secondary vegetational successions and climatic oscillations. Based on the above analysis, the forcing mechanism of vegeta-tional succession and climatic change in the Heqing Basin is further discussed. 4Side Effects during Treatment of Advanced Gastric Carcinoma by Chemotherapy Combined with CIK-cell Transfusion in Elderly People显示文摘OBJECTIVE To study the side effects and therapeutic results of autologous cytokine-induced killer(CIK)cell treatment in elderly patients with advanced gastric cancer. METHODS CIK cells were induced and cultured using biotechnics in vitro,and then the cells were infused back into the patients.Sixty elderly gastric cancer patients treated by chemotherapy(FOLFOX4 protocol)were followed-up.Among them,29 patients were treated with CIK cells during application of chemotherapy.Short-term curative effects and adverse events from the CIK transfusion and chemotherapy were observed. RESULTS Eight cases developed partial remission(PR),9 cases moderate remission(MR),7 cases stable disease(SD)and 5 cases progressive disease(PD).Out of a total of 29 patients who received chemotherapy combined with autologous CIK therapy, the total remission rate(PR+MR)was 58.6%.The total remission rate following chemotherapy alone was 45.2%,including 5 PR cases,9 MR cases,7 SD cases,and 10 PD cases.There was a relatively lower rate of severe chemotherapic toxicities in the CIK- cell transfusion group.Side e?ects of autologous CIK transfusion included chills(13 cases),fever(9 cases),nausea and vomiting (1 case)and general malaise(3 cases).Side effects were treated with conventional therapy resulting in their amelioration.No patients developed shock,blood capillary leakage syndrome,or abnormalities in routine blood,urine,liver and renal function tests. CONCLUSION Adoptive immunotherapy with autologous CIK cells may decrease the clinical signs and symptoms of elderly patients who suffer from advanced gastric cancer.Adverse reactions of patients can be alleviated by conventional therapy. 5The plant diversity and its relationship with paleoenvironment since 2.78 Ma revealed by pollen records in the Heqing deep drilling core显示文摘Multifold palynological diversity indices calculated by pollen data of the Heqing deep drilling core are synthetically analyzed, the results show that the plant diversity rapidly increased and its fluctuant amplitude and frequency evidently largened during the stages of 2.729―2.608 Ma, 1.176―0.342 Ma and since 0.118 Ma respectively, while during the other periods the plant diversity was relatively low with a gentle fluctuation. To discuss further the relation between ancient plant diversity and paleoenvironment, it is considered that the plant diversity in the Heqing region lies on increase or decrease of vertical vegetational belts in mountains around the studied area and richness of components of these vegetational belts, and is controlled by amplitude of tectonic uplift of mountains and climatic changes. The high plant diversity during 2.729―2.608 Ma responded to the strong uplift of mountains at the stage, while the plant diversity greatly increased and its fluctuant amplitude and frequency markedly largened at about 1.176 Ma was obviously response to the Middle Pleistocene Transition. The plant diversity and its fluctuant amplitude and frequency increased further at about 0.991 Ma may be superposably affected by both the Middle Pleistocene Transition and the tectonic uplift. 6Wintertime extreme precipitation event over southern China and its typical circulation features显示文摘This study objectively defined an extreme precipitation event(EPE)over southern China and investigated the associated typical circulation pattern on the intraseasonal time scale.The occurrence of the EPE resulted from the joint operations of anomalous circulations over the subtropics and mid-high latitudes.During the EPE,simultaneous enhancements of the trough over the Bay of Bengal(BBT)and the Western Pacific subtropical high(WPSH)facilitated the abundant water vapor conditions over southern China,whereas the weakened East Asian major trough(EAT)led to a moderate cold air invasion to that region,producing a persistent convergence zone over southern China.Wave train pattern in North Atlantic and Europe may be viewed as precursory signals for the EPE over southern China,and it contributed to the Rossby wave propagation in association with the EPE.These wave packets propagated toward East Asia mainly along the North African-Asian subtropical westerly jet waveguide.Low-frequency disturbances along this waveguide contributed to the enhancement of the BBT and WPSH and the weakening of the EAT,constituting favorable circulation conditions for the EPE.Haifeng Zong Cholaw Bueh Liren Ji 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,10:7

9The orbital scale evolution of regional climate recorded in a long sediment core from Heqing,China显示文摘Based on the analysis of carbonate content and loss on ignition for a long sediment core (737 m in length) drilled in Heqing, the orbital scale evolution of the Southwest Monsoon is revealed, by using overlapped spectral analysis and filter methods. 11An experimental research on single discharge machining of insulating ceramics efficiently with high energy capacitor显示文摘Insulating ceramics are applied to modern manufacturing industries for their improved material properties.But they are the difficult-to-machine materials because of their high rigidity,high brittleness and non-electrical conductivity.A new method which employs a high energy capacitor for electric discharge machining of insulating ceramics efficiently is presented in this paper,and the single discharge experiments have been carried out.The process uses the high voltage,large capacitor and high discharge energy,it is able to effectively machine insulating ceramics,and the single discharge crater volume of insulating ceramics can reach 17.63 mm3.The effects of polarity,peak voltage,capacitance,current-limiting resistance,tool electrode feed,tool electrode section area and assisting electrode thickness on the process performance such as the single discharge crater volume,the tool wear ratio and the assisting electrode wear ratio have been investigated.The microstructure of the discharge crater is examined with a scanning electron microscope(SEM).The results show that the discharge craters have sputtering appearance,the insulating ceramic materials are mostly removed by spalling,in the center region of the discharge some materials are removed by melting and vaporization,and the material removal is enhanced with the machining parameters increasing.JI RenJie LIU YongHong ZHANG YanZhen ZHANG HaiFeng LI XiaoPeng DONG Xin 2011Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,6:4
12Discovery of natural products capable of inducing porcine host defense peptide gene expression using cell-based high throughput screening显示文摘Background:In-feed antibiotics are being phased out in livestock production worldwide.Alternatives to antibiotics are urgently needed to maintain animal health and production performance.Host defense peptides(HDPs)are known for their broad-spectrum antimicrobial and immunomodulatory capabilities.Enhancing the synthesis of endogenous HDPs represents a promising antibiotic alternative strategy to disease control and prevention.Methods:To identify natural products with an ability to stimulate the synthesis of endogenous HDPs,we performed a high-throughput screening of 1261 natural products using a newly-established stable luciferase reporter cell line known as IPEC-J2/pBD3-luc.The ability of the hit compounds to induce HDP genes in porcine IPEC-J2 intestinal epithelial cells,3D4/31 macrophages,and jejunal explants were verified using RT-qPCR.Augmentation of the antibacterial activity of porcine 3D4/31 macrophages against a Gram-negative bacterium(enterotoxigenic E.coli)and a Gram-positive bacterium(Staphylococcus aureus)were further confirmed with four selected HDP-inducing compounds.Results:A total of 48 natural products with a minimum Z-score of 2.0 were identified after high-throughput screening,with 21 compounds giving at least 2-fold increase in luciferase activity in a follow-up dose-response experiment.Xanthohumol and deoxyshikonin were further found to be the most potent in inducing pBD3 mRNA expression,showing a minimum 10-fold increase in IPEC-J2,3D4/31 cells,and jejunal explants.Other compounds such as isorhapontigenin and calycosin also enhanced pBD3 mRNA expression by at least 10-fold in both IPEC-J2 cells and jejunal explants,but not 3D4/31 cells.In addition to pBD3,other porcine HDP genes such as pBD2,PG1-5,and pEP2C were induced to different magnitudes by xanthohumol,deoxyshikonin,isorhapontigenin,and calycosin,although clear gene-and cell type-specific patterns of regulation were observed.Desirably,these four compounds had a minimum effect on the expression of several representative inflammatory cytokine genes.Furthermore,when used at HDP-inducing concentrations,these compounds showed no obvious direct antibacterial activity,but significantly augmented the antibacterial activity of 3D4/31 macrophages(P<0.05)against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.Conclusions:Our results indicate that these newly-identified natural HDP-inducing compounds have the potential to be developed as novel alternatives to antibiotics for prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of infectious diseases in livestock production.Jing Wang Wentao Lyu Wei Zhang Yonghong Chen Fang Luo Yamin Wang Haifeng Ji Guolong Zhang 2021Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021,12,2:2
13Selective potassium uptake via biocompatible zeolite–polymer hybrid microbeads as promising binders for hyperkalemia显示文摘Patients with chronic kidney disease are at high risk of hyperkalemia that is associated with various lifethreatening complications.Treatments primarily rely on orally administered potassium binding agents,along with low curative effects and various side effects.Herein,direct serum potassium uptake was realized via zeolite–heparin-mimicking-polymer hybrid microbeads.The preparation process involved the synthesis of the heparin-mimicking polymer via the in situ cross-linking polymerization of acrylic acid and N-vinylpyrrolidone in polyethersulfone solution,the fabrication of microbeads via zeolite-mixing,electro-spraying and phase-inversion,and the subsequent aqueous-phase modifications based on ion-exchange and metal-leaching.An ultra-high(about 88%)amount of zeolite could be incorporated and well locked inside the polymer matrix.Potassium uptake capability was verified in water,normal saline and human serum,showing high selectivity and fast adsorption.The microbeads exhibited satisfying blood compatibility,negligible hemolysis ratio,prolonged clotting time,inhibited contact activation,and enhanced antifouling property toward serum proteins and cells.The proposed approach toward zeolite–heparin-mimicking-polymer hybrid microbeads provided a cheap,efficient and safe treatment protocol of hyperkalemia for the high-risk patients.Zhoujun Wang Wei Sun Zhiwei Wei Jianxu Bao Xin Song Yupei Li Haifeng Ji Jue Zhang Chao He Baihai Su Weifeng Zhao Changsheng Zhao 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,2:2

15Solubilities of CO_2, CH_4,H_2,CO and N_2 in choline chloride/urea显示文摘Solubilities of CO_2, CH_4, H_2, CO and N_2 in choline chloride/urea(ChCl/Urea) were investigated at temperatures ranging from 308.2 to328.2 K and pressures ranging from 0.6 to 4.6 MPa. The results show that the solubilities of gases increase with increasing pressure and decreasing temperature. The solubility of CO_2 is higher than that of CH_4, H_2, CO and N_2, which indicates that ChCl/Urea may be used as a potential solvent for CO_2 capture from the gas mixture. Solubility of CO_2 in ChCl/Urea was fitted by Non-Random Two-Liquid and Redlich-Kwong(NRTL-RK) model, and solubility of CH_4, H_2, CO or N_2 in ChCl/Urea was fitted by Henry's Law. The standard enthalpy, standard Gibbs energy and standard entropy of gases were calculated. 18Effect of TiO_2 nanoparticle aggregation on marine microalgae Isochrysis galbana显示文摘TiO_2 nanoparticles(NPs) could adversely impact aquatic ecosystems. However, the aggregation of these NPs could attenuate this effect. In this work, the biological effects of TiO_2 NPs on a marine microalgae Isochrysis galbana were investigated. The aggregation kinetics of TiO_2 NPs under different conditions was also investigated to determine and understand these effects. Results showed that, though TiO_2 NPs had no obvious impact on the size and reproducibility of algal cells under testing conditions, they caused a negative effect on algal chlorophyll, which led to a reduction in photosynthesis. Furthermore, fast aggregation of TiO_2 NPs occurred under all conditions, especially at the pH close to the p Hzpc.
