1Mapping wetland changes in China between 1978 and 2008显示文摘Four wetland maps for all China have been produced,based on Landsat and CBERS-02B remote sensing data between 1978 and 2008 (1978,1990,2000 and 2008).These maps were mainly developed by manual interpretation and validated by substantial field investigation in 2009.Based on these maps,we analyzed the 2008 wetland distribution in China and discussed wetland changes and their drivers over the past 30 years.(i) There were about 324097 km 2 of wetlands in 2008,for which inland marshes or swamps were the most common wetland type (35%),with lakes (26%) second.Most of the wetlands were in Heilongjiang,Inner Mongolia,Qinghai and Tibet,occupying about 55% of the national wetland area.(ii) From 1978 to 2008,China's wetland area continually and significantly decreased,by about 33% based on changes in the wetland map.This was in sharp contrast to the increase in artificial wetlands,which increased by about 122%.Inland marshes accounted for the main loss of total wetlands from 1978 to 2000.From 2000 through 2008,riverine and lacustrine wetlands constituted the main wetland loss.Fortunately however,the rate of wetland loss decreased from 5523 to 831 km 2 /a.(iii) The change ratio of lost natural wetlands (including inland and coastal wetlands) to non-wetlands has decreased slightly over the past 30 years.From 1978 to 1990,nearly all natural wetlands (98%) lost were transformed into non-wetlands.However,the ratio declined to 86% from 1990 to 2000,and to 77% from 2000 to 2008.(iv) All Chinese provinces were divided into three groups according to patterns of wetland changes,which could relate to the driving forces of such changes.Tibet was completely different from other provinces,as it was one representative example in which there was a net wetland increase,because of global warming and decreased human activity since 1990.Increased economic development caused considerable wetland loss in most eastern provinces,and artificial wetlands increased.NIU ZhenGuo ZHANG HaiYing WANG XianWei YAO WenBo ZHOU DeMin ZHAO KuiYi ZHAO Hui LI NaNa HUANG HuaBing LI CongCong YANG Jun LIU CaiXia LIU Shuang WANG Lin LI Zhan YANG ZhenZhong QIAO Fei ZHENG YaoMin CHEN YanLei SHENG YongWei GAO XiaoHong ZHU WeiHong WANG WenQing WANG Hong WENG YongLing ZHUANG DaFang LIU JiYuan LUO ZhiCai CHENG Xiao GUO ZiQi GONG Peng 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,22:51

3Human urokinase-type plasminogen activator gene-modifiedbone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells attenuateliver fibrosis in rats by down-regulating the Wnt signalingpathway显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the therapeutic effects of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs) with human urokinase-type plasminogen activator(u PA) on liver fibrosis, and to investigate the mechanism of gene therapy.METHODS: BMSCs transfected with adenovirusmediated human urokinase plasminogen activator(Adu PA) were transplanted into rats with CCl4-induced liver fibrosis. All rats were sacrificed after 8 wk, and their serum and liver tissue were collected for biochemical, histopathologic, and molecular analyzes. The degree of liver fibrosis was assessed by hematoxylin and eosin or Masson's staining. Western blot and quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction were used to determine protein and m RNA expression levels.RESULTS: Serum levels of alanine aminotransferase, aminotransferase, total bilirubin, hyaluronic acid, laminin, and procollagen type Ⅲ were markedly decreased, whereas the levels of serum albumin were increased by u PA gene modified BMSCs treatment. Histopathology revealed that chronic CCl4-treatment resulted in significant fibrosis while u PA gene modified BMSCs treatment significantly reversed fibrosis. By quantitatively analysing the fibrosis area of liver tissue using Masson staining in different groups of animals, we found that model animals with CCl4-induced liver fibrosis had the largest fibrotic area(16.69% ± 1.30%), while fibrotic area was significantly decreased by BMSCs treatment(12.38% ± 2.27%) and was further reduced by u PA-BMSCs treatment(8.31% ± 1.21%). Both protein and m RNA expression of β-catenin, Wnt4 and Wnt5 a was down-regulated in liver tissues following u PA gene modified BMSCs treatment when compared with the model animals.CONCLUSION: Transplantation of u PA gene modified BMSCs suppressed liver fibrosis and ameliorated liver function and may be a new approach to treating liver fibrosis. 4AFLP analysis revealed differences in genetic diversity of four natural populations of Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) in China显示文摘The amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) technology was used to analyze the genetic diversities in four natural populations of Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum), distributed in four sea areas of China, i.e., the Bohai Sea, the Huanghai Sea, the East China Sea and the South China Sea. Two hundred and sixty-four AFLP loci were analysed in 195 individuals and revealed high levels of genetic diversity. The percentage of polymorphic loci ranged from 92.13% to 96.06% and the Shannon’s information index was from 0.256 8 to 0.275 6. By analyzing molecular variance (AMOVA), it was found that there were high levels of genetic differentiation between populations of Qingdao and the other three sea areas. Cluster analysis by Nei’s pairwise distances grouped specimens by geographical origin, except the population of Qingdao. A conclusion can be drawn that there are high genetic diversities in the four natural populations of Manila clam in China and some distinct differences existed among and between the four populations. 5Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Capacity of Ferulic Acid Released from Wheat Bran by Solid-state Fermentation of Aspergillus niger显示文摘Objective A strain of Aspergillus niger(A. niger), capable of releasing bound phenolic acids from wheat bran, was isolated. This strain was identified by gene sequence identification. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacity of ferulic acid released from wheat bran by this A. niger strain(FA-WB) were evaluated. Methods Molecular identification techniques based on PCR analysis of specific genomic sequences were conducted; antioxidant ability was examined using oxygen radical absorbance capacity(ORAC), cellular antioxidant activity(CAA) assays, and erythrocyte hemolysis assays. RAW264.7 cells were used as a model to detect anti-inflammatory activity. Results The filamentous fungal isolate was identified to be A. niger. ORAC and CAA assay showed that FA-WB had better antioxidant activity than that of the ferulic acid standard. The erythrocyte hemolysis assay results suggested that FA-WB could attenuate AAPH-induced oxidative stress through inhibition of reactive oxy gen species(ROS) generation. FA-WB could significantly restore the AAPH-induced increase in intracellular antioxidant enzyme activities to normal levels as well as inhibit the intracellular malondialdehyde formation. TNF-?, IL-6, and NO levels indicated that FA-WB can inhibit the inflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS). 9Guided chemotherapy based on patient-derived mini-xenograft models improves survival of gallbladder carcinoma patients显示文摘Background:Gallbladder carcinoma is highly aggressive and resistant to chemotherapy,with no consistent strategy to guide first line chemotherapy.However,patient-derived xenograft(PDX)model has been increasingly used as an effective model for in preclinical study of chemosensitivity.Methods:Mini-PDX model was established using freshly resected primary lesions from 12 patients with gallblad-der to examine the sensitivity with five of the most commonly used chemotherapeutic agents,namely gemcitabine,oxaliplatin,5-fluorouracil,nanoparticle albumin-bound(nab)-paclitaxel,and irinotecan.The results were used to guide the selection of chemotherapeutic agents for adjunctive treatment after the surgery.Kaplan-Meier method was used to compare overall survival(OS)and disease free survival(DFS)with 45 patients who received conventional chemo-therapy with gemcitabine and oxaliplatin.Results:Cell viability assays based on mini-PDX model revealed significant heterogeneities in drug responsiveness.Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that patients in the PDX-guided chemotherapy group had significantly longer median OS(18.6 months;95%CI 15.9-21.3 months)than patients in the conventional chemotherapy group(13.9 months;95%CI 11.7-16.2 months)(P=0.030;HR 3.18;95%CI 1.47-6.91).Patients in the PDX-guided chemotherapy group also had significantly longer median DFS(17.6 months;95%CI 14.5-20.6 months)than patients in the conventional chemotherapy group(12.0 months;95%CI 9.7-14.4 months)(P=0.014;HR 3.37;95%CI 1.67-6.79).Conclusion:The use of mini-PDX model to guide selection of chemotherapeutic regimens could improve the out-come in patients with gallbladder carcinoma.Ming Zhan Rui-meng Yang Hui Wang Min He Wei Chen Sun-wang Xu Lin-hua Yang Qiang Liu Man-mei Long Jian Wang 2018Cancer Communications2018,38,1:11
10Synthesis and characterization of LiNi_(0.95-x)Co_xAl_(0.05)O_2 for lithium-ion batteries显示文摘Samples of LiNi0.95?xCoxAl0.05O2 (x = 0.10 and 0.15) and LiNiO2, synthesized by the solid-state reaction at 725°C for 24 h from LiOH·H2O, Ni2O3, Co2O3, and Al(OH)3 under an oxygen stream, were characterized by TG-DTA, XRD, SEM, and electrochemical tests. Simultaneous doping of cobalt and aluminum at the Ni-site in LiNiO2 was tried to improve the cathode performance for lithium-ion batteries. The results showed that co-doping (especially, 5 at.% Al and 10 at.% Co) definitely had a large beneficial effect in increasing the capacity (186.2 mA?h/g of the first discharge capacity for LiNi0.85Co0.10Al0.05O2) and cycling behavior (180.1 mA?h/g after 10 cycles for LiNi0.85Co0.10Al0.05O2) compared with 180.7 mA?h/g of the first discharge capacity and 157.7 mA?h/g of the tenth discharge capacity for LiNiO2, respectively. 11The Development of A Fluorescence Polarization Immunoassay for Aflatoxin Detection显示文摘A fluorescence polarization immunoassay(FPIA)was developed for the analysis ofaflatoxins(AFs)using an anti-aflatoxin B1(AFB1)monoclonal antibody and a novel fluorescein-labeled AFB1tracer.The FPIA showed an IC50 value of 23.33ng/mL with a limit of detection of 13.12 ng/mL for AFB1.The cross-reactivities of AFB1,AFB2,AFG1,AFG2,AFM1,and AFM2 with the antibody were100%,65.7%,143%,23.5%,111.4%,and 2%,respectively.The group-specificity of anti-AFB1mAb indicated that the FPIA could potentially be used in a screening method for the detection of total AFs,albeit not AFG2 and AFM2.The total time required for analyzing 96 samples in one microplate was less than 5 min.This study demonstrates the potential usefulness of the FPIA as a rapid and simple technique for monitoring AFs.SHENG Ya Jie EREMIN Sergei MI Tie Jun ZHANG Su Xia SHEN Jian Zhong WANG Zhan Hui 2014Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2014,27,2:10

13Vagina vasorum dissection during D2 lymphadenectomy for gastric carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To explore the relationship between metastasis and vagina vasorum in the progress of gastric carcinoma and to find some facts and references for gastric surgeons. METHODS: One hundred and seven specimens of left or right gastric arteries (55 left and 52 right) were gathered from 59 patients undergoing radical gastrectomy for gastric carcinoma. All the frozen specimens were cut into 3 μm-thick sections and stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and immunohistochemical method separately. Cytokeratin (CK) and mesothelial cells (MC) were stained with immunohistochemical method. Cancer cells inside vagina vasorum were detected and the structure of artery wall was observed under microscope. RESULTS: Metastatic cancer cells or tubercles were found inside vagina vasorum in some stage Ⅲ or Ⅳ specimens, but not in stageⅠor Ⅱ specimens. Tumor cells in vagina vasorum were CK positive in 26 specimens of 14 tumors. Among them, stage Ⅲ was found in 4 specimens of 2 tumors, and stage Ⅳ in 22 specimens of 12 tumors. None of these specimens was positive for MC. The positive rate of CK increased with TNM staging. Compared with the lower part, tumors in the upper and middle parts of stomach were more likely to metastasize into vagina vasorum. 14Hippocampal insulin resistance and the Sirtuin 1 signaling pathway in diabetes-induced cognitive dysfunction显示文摘In the peripheral nervous system,the activation of Sirtuin 1 can improve insulin resistance;however,the role played by Sirtuin 1 in the central nervous system remains unknown.In this study,rat models of diabetes mellitus were generated by a single injection of streptozotocin.At 8 weeks after streptozotocin injection,the Morris water maze test and western blot assays confirmed that the diabetic model rats had learning and memory deficits,insulin resistance,and Sirtuin 1 expression could be detected in the hippocampus.Insulin and the insulin receptor inhibitor S961 were intranasally administered to investigate the regulatory effects of insulin signaling on Sirtuin 1.The results showed that insulin administration improved the impaired cognitive function of diabetic model rats and increased the expression levels of phosphorylated insulin receptor,phosphorylated insulin receptor substrate 1,and Sirtuin 1 in the hippocampus.Conversely,S961 administration resulted in more severe cognitive dysfunction and reduced the expression levels of phosphorylated insulin receptor,phosphorylated insulin receptor substrate 1,and Sirtuin 1.The Sirtuin 1 activator SRT2104 and the inhibitor Sirtinol were injected into the lateral ventricle,which revealed that the activation of Sirtuin 1 increased the expression levels of target of rapamycin complex 1,phosphorylated cAMP-response elementbinding protein,and brain-derived neurotrophic factor.Hippocampal dendritic length and spine density also increased in response to Sirtuin 1 activation.In contrast,Sirtinol decreased the expression levels of target of rapamycin complex 1,phosphorylated cAMP-response elementbinding protein,and brain-derived neurotrophic factor and damaged the dendritic structure.These findings suggest that the Sirtuin 1 signaling pathway plays an important role in the development of insulin resistance-related cognitive deficits in diabetic rats.This study was approved by the Animal Ethics Welfare Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine(approval No.ZYFY201811207)in November 2018.Hui Yang Lin Tang Zhan Qu Shi-Hui Lei Wei Li Yu-Hong Wang 2021Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,12:6
15AntarcticaLC2000:The new Antarctic land cover database for the year 2000显示文摘Antarctica plays a key role in global energy balance and sea level change.It has been conventionally viewed as a whole ice body with high albedo in General Circulation Models or Regional Climate Models and the differences of land cover has usually been overlooked.Land cover in Antarctica is one of the most important drivers of changes in the Earth system.Detailed land cover information over the Antarctic region is necessary as spatial resolution improves in land process models.However,there is a lack of complete Antarctic land cover dataset derived from a consistent data source.To fill this data gap,we have produced a database named Antarctic Land Cover Database for the Year 2000(AntarcticaLC2000) using Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus(ETM+) data acquired around 2000 and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer(MODIS) images acquired in the austral summer of 2003/2004 according to the criteria for the 1:100000-scale.Three land cover types were included in this map,separately,ice-free rocks,blue ice,and snow/firn.This classification legend was determined based on a review of the land cover systems in Antarctica(LCCSA) and an analysis of different land surface types and the potential of satellite data.Image classification was conducted through a combined usage of computer-aided and manual interpretation methods.A total of 4067 validation sample units were collected through visual interpretation in a stratified random sampling manner.An overall accuracy of 92.3%and the Kappa coefficient of 0.836 were achieved.Results show that the areas and percentages of ice-free rocks,blue ice,and snow/firn are 73268.81 km2(0.537%),225937.26 km2(1.656%),and 13345460.41 km2(97.807%),respectively.The comparisons with other different data proved a higher accuracy of our product and a more advantageous data quality.These indicate that AntarcticaLC2000,the new land cover dataset for Antarctica entirely derived from satellite data,is a reliable product for a broad spectrum of applications.HUI FengMing KANG Jing LIU Yan CHENG Xiao GONG Peng WANG Fang LI Zhan YE YuFang GUO ZiQi 2017Science China Earth Sciences2017,60,4:5
16Primary structure of helix C to helix G of a new retinal protein in H.sp.xz515显示文摘The gene fragment encoding the retinal protein from helix C to helix G in a new strain of halobacteria, H.sp.xz515 has been amplified by PCR method. The nucleotide sequence of this fragment has been determined. The deduced amino acid sequence has been compared with halobium br and other two br-like proteins, ar-1 and ar-2. Results show that those amino acid residues in br, essential for proton pumping and binding to retinal, are conserved. 19Changes in the Cytokine Profiles of Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B during Antiviral Therapy显示文摘Objective To investigate the changes in the cytokine profiles of chronic hepatitis B(CHB)patients undergoing antiviral treatment.Methods Hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg)-positive patients were treated with Pegylated interferon(PEGIFN)and entecavir(ETV).Clinical biochemistry and cytokines were detected at baseline and every 3 months.Results In all,200 patients completed 48 weeks of treatment,100 in the PEG-IFN group and 100 in the ETV group.During 3–6 months of treatment,compared with baseline,the PEG-IFN group showed a significant decrease in interferon-gamma(IFN-γ),interleukin-17 A(IL-17 A),interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-10(IL-10),and transforming growth factor beta(TGF-β)(P<0.001)and a significant increase in interferon-alpha 2(IFN-α2)(P<0.001).In the ETV group,IL-10 and TGF-β1 decreased significantly(P<0.001).After 3 months,the levels of IFN-α2,IL-17 A,and tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α)in the PEGIFN group were significantly higher than those in the ETV group(P<0.01).The levels of IL-6 and TGF-β3 were significantly lower than those in the ETV group(P<0.01).After 6 months,the levels of IFN-α2,IFN-γ,and TNF-αin the PEG-IFN group were significantly higher than those in the ETV group(P<0.01),while the levels of IL-6 and TGF-β3 were significantly lower than those in the ETV group(P<0.01).Compared with ETV,PEG-IFN had higher HBeAg and HBsAg disappearance rates.Conclusion During antiviral therapy,a change in the cytokine profile occurred;in the aspect of immune control and functional cure,PEG-IFN was significantly better than ETV.LI Ming Hui LU Hui Hui CHEN Qi Qi LIN Yan Jie ZENG Zhan LU Yao ZHANG Lu DONG Jian Ping YI Wei XIE Yao 2021Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2021,34,6:4
20An improved Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica显示文摘A revised Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica (LIMA) is presented, using the 1073 multi-band scenes of the original Landsat-7 ETM+ LIMA image collection available at the United States Geological Survey (USGS: http://lima.usgs.gov/). Three improvements have been applied during the data processing: (1) DN saturation is adjusted by adopting a linear regression, which has a lower root mean square error than the ratio regression used by LIMA; (2) solar elevation angle is calculated using pixel-level latitude/longitude and the acquisition time and date of the central pixel of the scene, improving slightly upon the bilinear interpolation of the solar elevation angles of scene corners applied in LIMA; and (3) two additional image bands, Band 5 and Band 7, are sharpened using the panchromatic band (Band 8) and a Gram-Schmidt Spectral Sharpening algorithm to more easily distinguish snow, cloud and exposed rocks. The final planetary reflectance product is stored in 16-bit bands to preserve the full radiometric content of the scenes.
