According to the similarity of compositions and distributions of the alkenones determined commonly in the sediment section to those of marine sediment, it is reasonably referred that the alkenones might also originate from Prymnesiophyceae. ln addition, the parameter U37k'of alkenone is in positive correlation to δ18O values of authigenic calcium and magnesium minerals. | 4 | Is the maximum carbon number of long-chain n-alkanes an indicator of grassland or forest? | 5 | Relationship between climatic conditions and the relative abundance of modern C_3 and C_4 plants in three regions around the North Pacific显示文摘Using -24‰ and -14‰ as the endpoints of stable carbon isotopic composition of total organic carbon (δ 13CTOC) of surface soil under pure C3 and C4 vegetation, and surface soil δ 13CTOC data from eastern China, Australia and the Great Plains of North America, we estimate the relative abundance of C3/C4 plants (i.e., the ratio of C3 or C4 biomass to local primary production) in modern vegetation for each region. The relative abundance of modern C3/C4 vegetation from each region is compared to the corresponding climatic parameters (mean annual temperature and precipitation) to explore the relationship between relative C4 abundance and climate. The results indicate that temperature controls the growth of C4 plants. However, even where temperature is high enough for the growth of C4 plants, they will only dominate the landscape when precipitation declines as temperatures increase. Our results are consistent with those of other investigations of the geographic distribution of modern C4 plant species. | 6 | Effect of Altitude and Latitude on Surface Air Temperature across the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau显示文摘The correlation between mean surface air temperature and altitude is analyzed in this paper based on the annual and monthly mean surface air temperature data from 106 weather stations over the period 1961-2003 across the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.The results show that temperature variations not only depend on altitude but also latitude,and there is a gradual decrease in temperature with the increasing altitude and latitude.The overall trend for the vertical temperature lapse rate for the whole plateau is approximately linear.Three methods,namely multivariate composite analysis,simple correlation and traditional stepwise regression,were applied to analyze these three correlations.The results assessed with the first method are well matched to those with the latter two methods.The apparent mean annual near-surface lapse rate is-4.8 °C /km and the latitudinal effect is-0.87 °C /?latitude.In summer,the altitude influences the temperature variations more significantly with a July lapse rate of-4.3°C /km and the effect of latitude is only-0.28°C /latitude.In winter,the reverse happens.The temperature decrease is mainly due to the increase in latitude.The mean January lapse rate is-5.0°C /km,while the effect of latitude is-1.51°C /?latitude.Comparative analysis for pairs of adjacent stations shows that at a small spatial scale the difference in altitude is the dominant factor affecting differences in mean annual near-surface air temperature,aided to some extent by differences of latitude.In contrast,the lapse rate in a small area is greater than the overall mean value for the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (5 to 13°C /km).An increasing trend has been detected for the surface lapse rate with increases in altitude.The temperature difference has obvious seasonal variations,and the trends for the southern group of stations (south of 33? latitude) and for the more northerly group are opposite,mainly because of the differences in seasonal variation at low altitudes.For yearly changes,the temperature for high-altitude stations occurs earlier clearly.Temperature datasets at high altitude stations are well-correlated,and those in Nanjing were lagged for 1 year but less for contemporaneous correlations.The slope of linear trendline of temperature change for available years is clearly related to altitude,and the amplitude of temperature variation is enlarged by high altitude.The change effect in near-surface lapse rate at the varying altitude is approximately 1.0°C /km on the rate of warming over a hundred-year period. | WANG Keli SUN Jia CHENG Guodong JIANG Hao | 2011 | Journal of Mountain Science2011,8,6: | 7 |
| 7 | Nitrate δ^(15)N and δ^(18)O evidence for active biological transformation in the Changjiang Estuary and the adjacent East China Sea显示文摘The Changjiang Estuary has been considered as one of the most polluted estuaries in the world due to high nitrate (NO-3) input, especially in spring and summer. In this study, δ15N and δ18O of NO-3 , along with other chemical parameters in this area, were measured in spring to evaluate NO-3 biogeochemical processes. A simple two end-members mixing model was used to examine the relative contribution of the Changjiang River Diluted Water and marine water to NO-3 sources in the Changjiang Estuary and the adjacent East China Sea. The isotopic signals show that NO-3 behaved relatively and conservatively in Transect F and Transect P where assimilation was weak possibly due to vertical mixing, while active assimilation and weak nitrification occurred in Transect D. Spatial difference in assimilation was indicated by the~1:1 enrichment of δ15N and δ18O in the three transects, while spatial difference in nitrification was reflected by deviations of δ15 N and δ18O from assimilation line. | 12 | Inhibition of the CDK9-cyclin T1 protein-protein interaction as a new approach against triple-negative breast cancer显示文摘Cyclin-dependent kinase 9(CDK9) activity is correlated with worse outcomes of triplenegative breast cancer(TNBC) patients. The heterodimer between CDK9 with cyclin T1 is essential for maintaining the active state of the kinase and targeting this protein-protein interaction(PPI) may offer promising avenues for selective CDK9 inhibition. Herein, we designed and generated a library of metal complexes bearing the 7-chloro-2-phenylquinoline CN ligand and tested their activity against the CDK9cyclin T1 PPI. Complex 1 bound to CDK9 via an enthalpically-driven binding mode, leading to disruption of the CDK9-cyclin T1 interaction in vitro and in cellulo. Importantly, complex 1 showed promising anti-metastatic activity against TNBC allografts in mice and was comparably active compared to cisplatin. To our knowledge, 1 is the first CDK9-cyclin T1 PPI inhibitor with anti-metastatic activity against TNBC. The repair effect of intrathecal injection of brain-derived neurotrophic factor with 15 mg encapsulated biodegradable poly(lactide-co-glycolide) nanoparticles on this injury was then analyzed. Dorsal root ganglion cells (L7) of all experimental dogs were analyzed using hematoxylin-eosin staining and immunohistochemistry at 1, 2 and 4 weeks following model induction. Intrathecal injection of brain-derived neurotrophic factor can relieve degeneration and inflammation, and elevate the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in sensory neurons of compressed dorsal root ganglion. Simultaneously, intrathecal injection of brain-derived neurotrophic factor obviously improved neurological function in the dog model of acute multiple cauda equina constriction. | 14 | Partitioning tree water usage into storage and transpiration in a mixed forest显示文摘Background:Water migration and use are important processes in trees.However,it is possible to overestimate transpiration by equating the water absorbed through the plant roots to that diffused back to the atmosphere through stomatal transpiration.Therefore,it is necessary to quantify the water transpired and stored in plants.Method:The δ^(2)H/δ^(18)O technique and heat ratio method were used to explore the water usage of coniferous and broad-leaved tree species,including the proportions of water used for transpiration and water storage.Results:Platycladus orientalis and Quercus variabilis had strong plasticity in their water usage from different sources.Platycladus orientalis primarily used groundwater(30.5%)and the 60-100-cm soil layer(21.6%)throughout the experimental period and was sensitive to precipitation,absorbing water from the 0-20-cm layer(26.6%)during the rainy season.Quercus variabilis absorbed water from all sources(15.7%-36.5%)except from the 40-60-cm soil layer during the dry season.In addition,it did not change its water source but increased its groundwater uptake during the rainy season.The annual mean water fluxes of P.orientalis and Q.variabilis were 374.69 and 469.50 mm·year−1,with 93.49% and 93.91% of the water used for transpiration,respectively.However,nocturnal sap flow in P.orientalis and Q.variabilis was mainly used for water storage in the trunk rather than transpiration,which effectively alleviated drought stress and facilitated the transport of nutrients.Conclusions:The water stored in both species comprised 6%-7% of the total water fluxes and,therefore,should be considered in water balance models. | Ziqiang Liu Qianqian Liu Zijun Wei Xinxiao Yu Guodong Jia Jiang Jiang | 2021 | Forest Ecosystems2021,8,4: | 2 |
| 15 | Compound-specific hydrogen isotopes of long-chain n-alkanes extracted from topsoil under a grassland ecosystem in northern China显示文摘To investigate characteristics of H isotope variation in long-chain n-alkanes (δDn-alkanes) from higher plants in surface soils under a single ecosystem, 12 samples from a basalt regolith were randomly collected from Damaping in Wanquan County of Zhangjiakou in North China. Molecular distribution and C (δ13Cn-alkanes) and H isotopes of long-chain n-alkanes, as well as C isotopes of TOC (δ13CTOC), were analyzed. Both δ13CTOC and δ13Cn-alkanes values from four representative dominant long-chain n-alkanes (n-C27, n-C29, n-C31, n-C33) derived from terrestrial higher plants show minor variations among the 12 samples, indicating the major contributor is from local grasses with a uniform C3 photosynthetic pathway. In contrast, variations in δDn-alkanes values of the four long-chain n-alkanes are relatively large, with the more abundant homologs generally showing more negative δDn-alkanes values and less variation. However, variation of <30‰ among weighted averaged δDn-alkanes values of the four long-chain n-alkanes is not only less than that among δDn-alkanes values for different modern terrestrial C3 grasses from the specific locations, but also less than the literature values of δDn-alkanes of long-chain n-alkanes for single species over different seasons. | 16 | Detection and indication of 1,3,4-C27-29 triol in the sediment of northern South China Sea显示文摘After the detection of the 1,20,21-C_(29) long-chain triol in some sediments and freshwater pteridophytes, in this study, a new homologous long-chain triol, 1,3,4-C_(27-29), is detected for the first time in the Site4 B core sediment in the northern South China Sea. The hydroxyl location and length of the carbon chain of this newly discovered triol differ from those of 1,20,21-C_(29) triol. The test results of its molecular distribution and individual carbon isotope reveal that 1,3,4-C_(29) triol has a good correlation with n-C_(26-30) even carbon-numbered long-chain fatty alcohols, with R^2(n=68) values of 0.905, 0.929 and 0.903, respectively, and its carbon isotope composition, at –32.3‰±1.9‰, is similar to that of n-C_(26-30), at –29.13‰±0.87‰, –32.98‰±1.28‰, and –32.98‰±1.28‰. 1,3,4-C_(29) triol from the Site4 B core sediment and terrigenous long-chain fatty alcohol(n-C_(26-34)) show highly consistent distribution trends in the entire section; thus, the former could serve as a proxy indicator of the terrigenous input. Considering that the 1,20,21-C_(29) triol in previous research belongs to Azolla, which are fresh water pteridophytes, the 1,3,4-C_(27-29) triol identified in this study might have similar biogenetic derivation. | 17 | Variation in water supply leads to different responses of tree growth to warming显示文摘Background:Global climate change,characterized by changes in precipitation,prolonged growing seasons,and warming-induced water deficits,is putting increased pressure on forest ecosystems globally.Understanding the impact of climate change on drought-prone forests is a key objective in assessing forest responses to climate change.Methods:In this study,we assessed tree growth trends and changes in physiological activity under climate change based on measurements of tree ring and stable isotopes.Additionally,structural equation models were used to identify the climate drivers influencing tree growth for the period 1957–2016.Results:We found that the mean basal area increment decreased first and then increased,while the water use efficiency showed a steady increase.The effects of climate warming on tree growth switched from negative to positive in the period 1957–2016.Adequate water supply,especially snowmelt water available in the early critical period,combined with an earlier arrival of the growing season,allowed to be the key to the reversal of the effects of warming on temperature forests.The analysis of structural equation models(SEM)also demonstrated that the growth response of Pinus tabuliformis to the observed temperature increase was closely related to the increase in water availability.Conclusions:Our study indicates that warming is not the direct cause of forest decline,but does indeed exacerbate droughts,which generally cause forest declines.Water availability at the beginning of the growing season might be critical in the adaptation to rising temperatures in Asia.Temperate forests may be better able to withstand rising temperatures if they have sufficient water,with boosted growth even possible during periods of rising temperatures,thus forming stronger carbon sinks. | Pengfei Zheng Dandan Wang Guodong Jia Xinxiao Yu Ziqiang Liu Yusong Wang Yonge Zhang | 2022 | Forest Ecosystems2022,9,1: | 2 |
| 18 | Loss-of-function of KMT5B leads to neurodevelopmental disorder and impairs neuronal development and neurogenesis显示文摘Autism spectrum disorder(ASD)is a group of neurodevelopmental disorders that cause severe social,communication,and behavioral problems.Recent studies show that the variants of a histone methyltransferase gene KMT5B cause neurodevelopmental disorders(NDDs),including ASD,and the knockout of Kmt5b in mice is embryonic lethal.However,the detailed genotype-phenotype correlations and functional effects of KMT5B in neurodevelopment are unclear.By targeted sequencing of a large Chinese ASD cohort,analyzing published genome-wide sequencing data,and mining literature,we curated 39 KMT5B variants identified from NDD individuals.A genotype-phenotype correlation analysis for 10 individuals with KMT5B pathogenic variants reveals common symptoms,including ASD,intellectual disability,languages problem,and macrocephaly.In vitro knockdown of the expression of Kmt5b in cultured mouse primary cortical neurons leads to a decrease in neuronal dendritic complexity and an increase in dendritic spine density,which can be rescued by expression of human KMT5B but not that of pathogenic de novo missense mutants.In vivo knockdown of the Kmt5b expression in the mouse embryonic cerebral cortex by in utero electroporation results in decreased proliferation and accelerated migration of neural progenitor cells.Our findings reveal essential roles of histone methyltransferase KMT5B in neuronal development,prenatal neurogenesis,and neuronal migration. | Guodong Chen Lin Han Senwei Tan Xiangbin Jia Huidan Wu Yingting Quan Qiumeng Zhang Bin Yu Zhengmao Hu Kun Xia Hui Guo | 2022 | Journal of Genetics and Genomics2022,49,9: | 1 |
