1A new free-hand pedicle screw placement technique with reference to the supraspinal ligament显示文摘We sought to compare the safety and accuracy of a new free-hand pedicle screw placement technique to that of the conventional technique.One hundred fifty-three consecutive adult patients with simple fracture in the thoracic or/and lumbar spine were alternately assigned to either the new free-hand or the conventional group.In the new free-hand technique group,preoperative computerized tomography(CT) images were used to calculate the targeted medial-lateral angle of each pedicle trajectory and the pedicle screw was inserted perpendicular to the corresponding supraspinal ligament.In the conventional technique group,the medial-lateral and cranial-caudal angle of each pedicle trajectory was determined by intraoperatively under fluoroscopic guidance.The accuracy rate of pedicle screw placement,the time of intraoperative fluoroscopy,the operating time and the amount of blood loss during operation were respectively compared.All screws were analyzed by using intraoperative radiographs,intraoperative triggered electromyography(EMG) monitoring data,postoperative CT data and clinical outcomes.The accuracy rate of pedicle screw placement in the new free-hand technique group and the conventional technique group was 96.3% and 94.2%(P < 0.05),respectively.The intraoperative fluoroscopy time of the new technique group was less than that of the conventional technique group(5.37 seconds vs.8.79 seconds,P < 0.05).However,there was no statistical difference in the operating time and the amount of blood loss during operation(P > 0.05).Pedicle screw placement with the free-hand technique which keeps the screw perpendicular to the supraspinal ligament is an accurate,reliable and safe technique to treat simple fracture in the thoracic or lumbar spine.Juming Li Hong Zhao Hao Xie Lipeng Yu Jifu Wei Min Zong Feng Chen Ziqiang Zhu Ning Zhang Xiaojian Cao 2014The Journal of Biomedical Research2014,28,1:7
2Review of dielectric drying of foods and agricultural products显示文摘Dielectric drying methods with microwave(MW)and radio frequency(RF)energy as emerging drying technologies have drawn much attention from both research community and industry over the past decades.When properly applied,MW and RF drying can be energy efficient and of great potential to be used for a wide range of materials.However there are few reviews that cover both MW and RF drying technologies.Such a review is timely considering the ever increasing interest of the food industry in adapting energy efficient new drying technologies.This paper attends to provide a comprehensive review on uses of MW and RF energy in drying of foods and agricultural products.It provides a brief discussion on the fundamental theory of MW and RF heating and gives a general overview of the works of the most active research groups on modeling of drying kinetic,energy control strategy and the influence of MW and RF drying conditions on quality and structural changes of the final products.Finally,it proposes possible solutions to main challenges facing the industrial adaptation of the technologies and makes suggestions on further research directions to improve the dielectric drying.Yunyang Wang Yuanrui Li Shaojin Wang Li Zhang Mengxiang Gao Juming Tang 2011International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2011,4,1:4
3Electrospun Polyethylene Glycol/Polyvinyl Alcohol Composite Nanofibrous Membranes as Shape-Stabilized Solid-Solid Phase Change Materials显示文摘In this work,shape-stabilized solid-solid phase change materials(PCMs)were fabricated by simply electrospinning polyethylene glycol(PEG)and polyvinyl alcohol(PVA).Owing to the strong hydrogen bonds and entanglement between those molecular chains of PEG and PVA,PEG was packaged by PVA.The morphological structures,thermal stability and thermal energy storage properties of those fibers were investigated.SEM results showed that those electrospun PVA/PEG composite membranes hold a three-dimensional nonwoven web structure even the content of PEG as high as 70%.The thermal energy storage ability of those composite fibers increased with the increase of the content of PEG.The heat enthalpies of PEG/PVA=7/3 were as high as 78.806 J/g.Moreover,those composite fibers had excellent thermal stability.After 100 heating and cooling cycles,there was almost no obvious change in the melting enthalpy and crystallization enthalpy.Those fibers still maintained good thermal regulation.The simple preparation process,low cost of raw materials and excellent stability endow the PCMs great utilization potentiality in smart textile and energy storage systems.Junwen Huang Houyong Yu Somia Yassin Hussain Abdalkarim Jaromir Marek Jiri Militky Yingzhan Li Juming Yao 2020Advanced Fiber Materials2020,2,3:2
4Robust Segmentation Method for Noisy Images Based on an Unsupervised Denosing Filter显示文摘Level-set-based image segmentation has been widely used in unsupervised segmentation tasks.Researchers have recently alleviated the influence of image noise on segmentation results by introducing global or local statistics into existing models.Most existing methods are based on the assumption that the distribution of image noise is known or observable.However,real-time images do not meet this assumption.To bridge this gap,we propose a novel level-set-based segmentation method with an unsupervised denoising mechanism.First,a denoising filter is acquired under the unsupervised learning paradigm.Second,the denoising filter is integrated into the level-set framework to separate noise from the noisy image input.Finally,the level-set energy function is minimized to acquire segmentation contours.Extensive experiments demonstrate the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed method when applied to noisy images.Ling Zhang Jianchao Liu Fangxing Shang Gang Li Juming Zhao Yueqin Zhang 2021Tsinghua Science and Technology2021,26,5:2

11Linsitinib (OSI‑906) modulates brain energy metabolism and seizure activity in the lithium‑pilocarpine rat model显示文摘Background:Epileptic seizure is a process of energy accumulation,bursting,and depletion accompanied by the production,spread,and termination of epileptic discharges.The energy required for a seizure is mainly provided through mitochondrial production of ATP.Mitochondrial diseases often lead to epileptic seizures,and energy depletion caused by seizures can lead to mitochondrial dysfunction.The energy metabolism has become a key target for treatment of epileptic diseases.Method:The effect of OSI-906,an insulin receptor(IR)/insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor(IGF-1R)inhibitor,on behaviors and electroencephalographic activity in the lithium-pilocarpine rats were tested.18F-FDG positron emission tomography(PET)/computed tomography(CT)was performed to detect the relative whole-brain glucose uptake values.Electron microscopy was performed to observe the ultrastructure of neuronal and mitochondrial damage.The changes in blood glucose at different time points before and after the intervention were tested and the effects of OSI-906 on IR/IGF-1R and downstream Akt signaling in the context of seizures were evaluated.Results:The OSI-906 treatment applied 3 days before the pilocarpine-induced seizures significantly reduced the seizure severity,prolonged the seizure latency and decreased the EEG energy density.MicroPET/CT revealed that 50 mg/kg of OSI-906 inhibited the 18F-FDG glucose uptake after epileptic seizures,suggesting that OSI-906,through inhibiting IR/IGF-1R and the downstream AKT signaling,may regulate the excessive energy consumption of the epileptic brain.The OSI-906 treatment also reduced the mitochondrial damage caused by epileptic seizures.Conclusion:The IR/IGF-1R inhibitor OSI-906 can significantly reduce the sensitivity and severity of pilocarpineinduced seizures by inhibiting the IR/IGF-1R and the downstream Akt signaling pathway.Guohui Jiang Shenglin Wang Mingyue Chen Xiaomi Ding Weiwei He Li Wang Shunxian Wang Juming Yu Xiaoming Wang 2021Acta Epileptologica2021,3,1:0

13Waist circumference cutoff points for Chinese adults with metabolic syndrome defined by the International Diabetes Federation显示文摘Objective To investigate the appropriate waist circumference (WC) cutoff points for central obesity in the middle-aged and elderly Beijing residents by the metabolic syndrome definition of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). Methods A total of 2,344 Beijing residents aged ≥40 years were investigated. They answered questionnaires, received physical examinations, and underwent plasma glucose and lipid profile measurement. Those non-diabetic subjects underwent a 75g oral glucose tolerance test. All data were analyzed to calculate the appropriate WC cutoff points for central obesity reaching the diagonsis of MS. Results 1) Both in males and females, the triglyceride (TG), systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) increased linearly with WC, and the high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) decreased linearly with WC (P<0.05). 2)The prevalence of elevated TG, reduced HDL-C, elevated blood pressure, elevated FBG, or ≥ 2 of these factors increased with WC (P<0.05). 3) Based on the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and Youden index, the WC values for central obesity and for detecting BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2 were about 90 cm for men and 80 cm for women. 4) The odds ratio for the presence of two or more metabolic risk factors increased abruptly in men with WC ≥ 90 cm and in women with WC ≥ 80 cm. 14A 7-year follow-up study of the features and transformations of elderly male patients with OGTT-1h hyperglycemia显示文摘The aim of this paper is to investigate the clin-ical features and transformation of elderly male patients with normal blood glucose levels at fasting and 2 hours after glucose intake but with hyperglycemia(>11.1 mmol/L)1 hour after oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT-1h HG).Seven years of follow-up visits were per-formed on 189 elderly male outpatients with OGTT-1h HG and data was recorded on their body mass index(BMI),blood pressure,serum cholesterol and triglyceride test results and on their glucose tolerance changes every 1–2 years after taking OGTT;their possible causes were analysed.Follow-up visits revealed that 19 patients with OGTT-1h HG were diagnosed with diabetes(10.1%),78 patients with impaired glucose tolerance(IGT,41.3%),2 patients transformed to normal glucose tolerance(NGT,1.1%)and the remaining 90 patients(47.6%)remained unchanged.Synchronized comparison with IGT patients showed that the ratio of OGTT-1h HG patients turning to diabetes was lower than that of IGT patients(21.1%,x2513.05,P,0.01),and the ratio of OGTT-1h HG patients transforming to NGT was slightly higher(0.4%,x252.46,P.0.05).The prevalence of complications of hypertension,coronary heart disease,cerebral vascular diseases and dyslipidemia in patients with OGTT-1h HG were higher than those with NGT(P,0.05)and were similar to that of IGT patients.As a special phenotype of OGTT and as part of an abnormal glucose tolerance con-formation,patients with OGTT-1h HG warrant special attention,since about half of them were found to have developed diabetes or IGT,and their risk of suffering from vascular diseases were also increased.Hui TIAN Changyu PAN Juming LU Chunlin LI Wenwen ZHONG Xiutang CAO 2008Frontiers of Medicine2008,2,4:0
