| 1 | Anisotropic coding metamaterials and their powerful manipulation of differently polarized terahertz waves显示文摘Metamaterials based on effective media can be used to produce a number of unusual physical properties(for example,negative refraction and invisibility cloaking)because they can be tailored with effective medium parameters that do not occur in nature.Recently,the use of coding metamaterials has been suggested for the control of electromagnetic waves through the design of coding sequences using digital elements‘0’and‘1,'which possess opposite phase responses.Here we propose the concept of an anisotropic coding metamaterial in which the coding behaviors in different directions are dependent on the polarization status of the electromagnetic waves.We experimentally demonstrate an ultrathin and flexible polarization-controlled anisotropic coding metasurface that functions in the terahertz regime using specially designed coding elements.By encoding the elements with elaborately designed coding sequences(both 1-bit and 2-bit sequences),the x-and y-polarized waves can be anomalously reflected or independently diffused in three dimensions.The simulated far-field scattering patterns and near-field distributions are presented to illustrate the dual-functional performance of the encoded metasurface,and the results are consistent with the measured results.We further demonstrate the ability of the anisotropic coding metasurfaces to generate a beam splitter and realize simultaneous anomalous reflections and polarization conversions,thus providing powerful control of differently polarized electromagnetic waves.The proposed method enables versatile beam behaviors under orthogonal polarizations using a single metasurface and has the potential for use in the development of interesting terahertz devices. | Shuo Liu Tie Jun Cui Quan Xu Di Bao Liangliang Du Xiang Wan Wen Xuan Tang Chunmei Ouyang Xiao Yang Zhou Hao Yuan Hui Feng Ma Wei Xiang Jiang Jiaguang Han Weili Zhang Qiang Cheng | 2016 | Light(Science & Applications)2016,5,1: | 36 |
| 2 | Activation of mTORC1 in subchondral bone preosteoblasts promotes osteoarthritis by stimulating bone sclerosis and secretion of CXCL12显示文摘Increasing evidences show that aberrant subchondral bone remodeling plays an important role in the development of osteoarthritis(OA).However,how subchondral bone formation is activated and the mechanism by which increased subchondral bone turnover promotes cartilage degeneration during OA remains unclear.Here,we show that the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1(mTORC1)pathway is activated in subchondral bone preosteoblasts(Osterix+)from OA patients and mice.Constitutive activation of mTORC1 in preosteoblasts by deletion of the mTORC1 upstream inhibitor,tuberous sclerosis 1,induced aberrant subchondral bone formation,and sclerosis with little-to-no effects on articular cartilage integrity,but accelerated posttraumatic OA development in mice.In contrast,inhibition of mTORC1 in preosteoblasts by disruption of Raptor(mTORC1-specific component)reduced subchondral bone formation and cartilage degeneration,and attenuated post-traumatic OA in mice.Mechanistically,mTORC1 activation promoted preosteoblast expansion and Cxcl12 secretion,which induced subchondral bone remodeling and cartilage degeneration during OA.A Cxcl12-neutralizing antibody reduced cartilage degeneration and alleviated OA in mice.Altogether,these findings demonstrate that mTORC1 activation in subchondral preosteoblasts is not sufficient to induce OA,but can induce aberrant subchondral bone formation and secrete of Cxcl12 to accelerate disease progression following surgical destabilization of the joint.Pharmaceutical inhibition of the pathway presents a promising therapeutic approach for OA treatment. | Chuangxin Lin Liangliang Liu Chun Zeng Zhong-Kai Cui Yuhui Chen Pinling Lai Hong Wang Yan Shao Haiyan Zhang Rongkai Zhang Chang Zhao Hang Fang Daozhang Cai Xiaochun Bai | 2019 | Bone Research2019,7,1: | 12 |

| 5 | Effects of L-3-n-butylphthalide on caspase-3 and nuclear factor kappa-B expression in primary basal forebrain and hippocampal cultures after beta-amyloid peptide 1-42 treatment显示文摘BACKGROUND:L-3-n-butylphthalide(L-NBP) can inhibit phosphorylation of tau protein and reduce the neurotoxicity of beta-amyloid peptide 1-42(Aβ_(1-42)). OBJECTIVE:To observe the neuroprotective effects of L-NBP on caspase-3 and nuclear factor kappa-B(NF-κB) expression in a rat model of Alzheimer's disease. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:A cell experiment was performed at the Central Laboratory of Provincial Hospital affiliated to Shandong University between January 2008 and August 2008. MATERIALS:L-NBP(purity>98%) was provided by Shijiazhuang Pharma Group NBP Pharmaceutical Company Limited.Aβ_(1-42),3-[4,5-dimethylthiazolo-2]-2,5 iphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT),and rabbit anti-Caspase-3 polyclonal antibody were provided by Cell Signaling, USA;goat anti-choactase and rabbit anti-NF-κB antibodies were provided by Santa Cruz,USA. METHODS:Primary cultures were generated from rat basal forebrain and hippocampal neurons at 17 or 19 days of gestation.The cells were assigned into five groups:the control group,the Aβ_(1-42) group(2μmol/ L),the Aβ_(1-42) + 0.1μmol/L L-NBP group,the Aβ_(1-42)+ 1μmol/L L-NBP group,and the Aβ_(1-42)+ 10μmol/L L-NBP group.The neurons were treated with Aβ_(1-42)(2μmol/L) alone or in combination with L-NBP(0.1,1,10μmol/L) for 48 hours.Cells in the control group were incubated in PBS. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Morphologic changes were evaluated using inverted microscopy, viability using the MTT method,and the changes in caspase-3 and NF-κB expression using Western blot. RESULTS:Induction with Aβ_(1-42) for 48 hours caused cell death and soma atrophy,and increased caspase-3 and NF-κB expression(P<0.05).L-NBP blocked these changes in cell morphology, decreased caspase-3 and NF-κB expression(P<0.05),and improved cell viability,especially at the high dose(P<0.05).
