| 1 | Structure and deformation around the Gyirong basin, north Himalaya, and onset of the south Tibetan detachment system显示文摘Gyirong basin and its adjacent area are located at a special position in the Himalayan orogen, where the south Tibetan detachment system (STDS) and N-S trending rift converged. The north Himalayan orogen here can be divided into five petrologic-tectonic units successively from south to north: 1) the Greater Himalayan crystalline complex (GHC); 2) the STDS shear zone; 3) the Tethyan Himalayan sedimentary sequence (THS); 4) the late Cenozoic sedimentary basins, such as Gyirong and Oma basins; and 5) the Malashan gneiss dome. Structural studies show that this area experienced four stages of deformation: 1) the earlier south-directed thrusting, preserved both in the GHC and THS; 2) top-down-to-north slip along the STDS, normal faults related to this slip formed the early controlling structures of the Cenozoic basins,and the tilted pattern of the blocks between the basins indicated a north-directed slip; 3) east-west extension, the resultant N-S trending normal fault formed the eastern boundary of the basins; and 4) late gravitational collapse. | 2 | Exotic origin of the Chinese continental shelf: new insights into the tectonic evolution of the western Pacific and eastern China since the Mesozoic显示文摘The effect of paleo-Pacific subduction on the geological evolution of the western Pacific and continental China is likely complex. Nevertheless, our analysis of the distribution of Mesozoic granitoids in the eastern continental China in space and time has led us to an interesting conclusion: The basement of the continental shelf beneath East and South China Seas may actually be of exotic origin geologically unrelated to the continental lithosphere of eastern China. By accepting the notion that the Jurassic–Cretaceous granitoids in the region are genetically associated with western Pacific subduction and the concept that subduction may cease to continue only if the trench is being jammed, then the termination of the granitoidmagmatism throughout the vast region at *88 ± 2 Ma manifests the likelihood of ‘‘sudden'', or shortly beforehand(*100 Ma), trench jam of the Mesozoic western Pacific subduction. Trench jam happens if the incoming‘‘plate'' or portion of the plate contains a sizeable mass that is too buoyant to subduct. The best candidate for such a buoyant and unsubductable mass is either an oceanic plateau or a micro-continent. We hypothesize that the basement of the Chinese continental shelf represents such an exotic, buoyant and unsubductable mass, rather than seaward extension of the continental lithosphere of eastern China. The locus of the jammed trench(i.e., the suture) is predictably located on the shelf in the vicinity of, and parallel to, the arc-curved coastal line of the southeast continental China. It is not straightforward to locate the locus in the northern section of the East China Sea shelf because of the more recent(\20 Ma) tectonic re-organization associated with the opening of the Sea of Japan. We predict that the trench jam at *100 Ma led to the re-orientation of the Pacific plate motion in the course of NNW direction as inferred from the age-progressive Emperor Seamount Chain of Hawaiian hotspot origin(its oldest unsubdued Meiji and Detroit seamounts are *82 Ma),making the boundary between the Pacific plate and the newly accreted plate of eastern Asia a transform fault at the location east of the continental shelf of exotic origin. This explains the apparent *40 Myr magmatic gap from *88to *50 Ma prior to present-day western Pacific subduction initiation. We propose that basement penetration drilling on well-chosen sites is needed to test the hypothesis in order to reveal the true nature of the Chinese continental shelf basement. This testing becomes critical and cannot longer be neglected in order to genuinely understand the tectonic evolution of the western Pacific and its effect on the geology of eastern China since the Mesozoic, includingthe cratonic lithosphere thinning, related magmatism/mineralization, and the mechanism of the subsequent South China Sea opening, while also offering novel perspectives on aspects of the plate tectonics theory. We also suggest the importance of future plate tectonic reconstruction of the western Pacific to consider the nature and histories of the Chinese continental shelf of exotic origin as well as the probable transform plate boundary from *100 to*50 Ma. | 3 | An Analysis and Modeling Study of a Sea Fog Event over the Yellow and Bohai Seas显示文摘In this study, a sea fog event which occurred on 27 March 2005 over the Yellow and Bohai Seas was investigated obser- vationally and numerically. Almost all available observational data were used, including satellite imagery of Geostationary Opera- tional Environmental Satellite (GOES)-9, three data sets from station observations at Dandong, Dalian and Qingdao, objectively reanalyzed data of final run analysis (FNL) issued by the National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) and Regional At- mospheric Modeling System (RAMS) results. Synoptic conditions and fog characteristics were analyzed. The fog formed when warm, moist air was advected northwards over the cool water of the Yellow and Bohai Seas, and dissipated when a cold front brought northerly winds and cool, dry air. In order to better understand the fog formation mechanism, a high-resolution RAMS modeling with a 6 km×6 km grid, initialized and validated by FNL data, was designed. A 48 h modeling that started from 12 UTC 26 March 2005 reproduced the main characteristics of this sea fog event. The simulated lower visibility area agreed reasonably well with the sea fog region identified from the satellite imagery. | 4 | Simple and cost-effective methods for precise analysis of trace element abundances in geological materials with ICP-MS显示文摘Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS) is the most commonly used technique to determine the abundances of trace elements in a wide range of geological materials. However, incomplete sample digestion, isobaric interferences and instrumental drift remain obvious problems that must be overcome in order to obtain precise and accurate results. For this reason, we have done many experiments and developed a set of simple, cost-effective and practical methods widely applicable for precise and rapid determination of trace element abundances in geological materials using ICP-MS. Commonly used high-pressure digestion technique is indeed effective in decomposing refractory phases, but this inevitably produces fluoride complexes that create new problems. We demonstrate that the fluoride complexes formed during high-pressure digestion can be readily re-dissolved using high-pressure vessel at 190 °C for only 2 h for 50 mg sample. In the case of isobaric interferences, although oxide(e.g., MO+/M+) and hydroxide(e.g., MOH+/M+) productivity is variable between runs, the(MO+/M+)/(Ce O+/Ce+)and(MOH+/M+)/(Ce O+/Ce+) ratios remain constant, making isobaric interference correction for all other elements of interest straightforward, for which we provide an easy-to-use off-line procedure. We also show that mass-time-intensity drift curve is smooth as recognized previously, for which the correction can be readily done by analyzing a quality-control(QC) solution and using off-line Excel VBA procedure without internal standards. With these methods, we can produce data in reasonable agreement with recommended values of international rock reference standards with a relative error of <8% and precision generally better than 5%. | 6 | The Structure and Formation Mechanism of a Sea Fog Event over the Yellow Sea显示文摘In this paper, a heavy sea fog event occurring over the Yellow Sea on 11 April 2004 was investigated based upon observational and modeling analyses. From the observational analyses, this sea fog event is a typical advection cooling case. Sea surface temperature(SST) and specific humidity(SH) show strong gradients from south to north, in which warm water is located in the south and consequently, moisture is larger in the south than in the north due to evaporation processes. After fog formation, evaporation process provides more moisture into the air and further contributes to fog evolution. The sea fog event was reproduced by the Regional Atmospheric Modeling System(RAMS) reasonably. The roles of important physical processes such as radiation, turbulence as well as atmospheric stratification in sea fog's structure and its formation mechanisms were analyzed using the model results. The roles of long wave radiation cooling, turbulence as well as atmospheric stratification were analyzed based on the modeling results. It is found that the long wave radiative cooling at the fog top plays an important role in cooling down the fog layer through turbulence mixing. The fog top cooling can overpower warming from the surface. Sea fog develops upward with the aid of turbulence. The buoyancy term, i.e., the unstable layer, contributes to the generation of TKE in the fog region. | 8 | TiO_2-functionalized mesoporous materials for sensitive analysis of multi-phosphopeptides显示文摘Protein phosphorylation as one of the most important post-translational modifications in mammalian cells regulates numerous biological processes. Here we propose a novel strategy for the selective isolation and sensitive analysis of multi-phosphopeptides based on TiO2-gratfed mesoporous materials, in which MCM-41 and SBA-15 were chosen as the hard templates. The commercialized IMAC and TiO2 nanopartices were further investigated in the phosphopeptide analysis for comparison. The enrichment efficiency was evaluated and measured by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The results indicated that both TiO2-SBA-15 and TiO2-MCM-41 exhibited the preferential affinity to multi-phosphopeptides compared with the other two widely used strategies. | 9 | Phenolic Profile, Antioxidant Activity and Anti-proliferative Activity of Crabapple Fruits显示文摘To explore the potential of crabapples as functional food, polyphenols in crabapples and ‘Fuji’ apples were extracted, and the phenolic profile,total polyphenols, antioxidant activity and anti-proliferative activity against several human cancer cells were determined. The results indicated that crabapple extracts have more abundant phenols and higher total polyphenols(from 4.46 to 46.63 mg GAE·g-1 DW) compared to ‘Fuji’ apples.Crabapple extracts possessed higher antioxidant activity than apple by DPPH and ABTS analysis. All fruit extracts exhibited inhibitory effects on proliferation in different cancer cells;however, crabapple extracts performed significantly better, with half inhibitory concentration(IC50)values varied from 48.34 μg·m L-1 to 974.81 μg·m L-1 for colon cancer cells SW480, 64.67–1 466.35 μg·m L-1 for stomach cancer cells BGC-803,78.88–910.64 μg·m L-1 for esophageal cancer cells CaEs-17. Besides, the red crabapples had higher antioxidant activity and anti-proliferative activity than yellow fruits. | 11 | Diagnosis and Numerical Modeling of an Explosive Cyclone over the Northwestern Pacific显示文摘An explosive cyclone that took place over the Northwestern Pacific from 12 UTC 18 to 18 UTC 21 November 2007 was investigated.The synoptic situations and structure of this cyclone were documented by using the 1°×1°final analysis data of the National Center for Environmental Prediction.This cyclone developed explosively around 18 UTC 19 and reached its maximum deepening rate(MDR,1.3 Bergeron)around 06 UTC 20 November 2007.At its MDR moment,the surface cyclone center was located in the downstream of the upper-level trough and northern entrance zone of the upper-level jet.The diagnosis using Zwack-Okossi equation suggested that cyclonic-vorticity advection and warm air advection acted to deepen this cyclone,while adiabatic cooling suppressed its development.In an investigation of this cyclone development,numerical sensitivity results obtained by using the Weather and Research Forecasting model showed that the latent heat release in the lower level had less contribution,whereas the surface sensible and latent fluxes played important roles.With a warmer ocean surface,the cyclone tended to intensify.Two topography tests were designed to examine the mountain influences on the development of this cyclone:removing a mountain and doubling the height of a mountain.Results show that the Changbai Mountains suppressed the development of the cyclone by preventing the southern moisture air from invading the inland.Without the moisture air,no latent heat release occurs when this cyclone passes over the Changbai Mountains. | SUN Baitang LI Pengyuan ZHANG Shuqin GUO Jingtian FU Gang | 2021 | Journal of Ocean University of China2021,20,4: | 1 |
