The Relationship between Glucose Excursion and Cognitive Function in Aged Type 2 Diabetes Patients显示文摘Objective Evidence suggests that type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is associated with an increased risk of dementia and that glucose variability is an independent risk factor for diabetic complications. This study investigated the relationship between glucose excursion and cognitive function in aged T2DM patients. Methods A total of 248 aged T2DM patients wore a continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) for 3 days in order to evaluate glucose excursion, including mean amplitude of glycemic excursions (MAGE) and mean of daily difference (MODD).All subjects were evaluated with a number of accepted cognitive function tests, including themini‐mental status examination (MMSE).The relationship between MAGE and MODD and performance on these cognitive tests was assessed. Results The MAGE and MMSE score were negatively correlated, likewise with the correlation between MODD and MMSE.Liner multivariate regression analysis showed that MAGE and MODD were also negatively related to MMSE independent of age, sex, glycemic control, hypertension, smoking,or coronary heart disease history. Conclusion Glucose excursion is related to cognitive function in aged T2DM patients.Elevated glucose excursion decreased the MMSE score, which reflects general cognitive function. Thus, therapy aimed at controlling glucose excursion may be beneficial for maintaining cognitive function in aged T2DM patients.ZHONG Yuan ZHANG Xiao Yan MIAO Ya ZHU Jie Hua YAN Hong WANG Bei Yun JIN Jun HU Ting Jun JIA Wei Ping 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,1:34
Factors Associated with Thrombolysis Outcome in Ischemic Stroke Patients with Atrial Fibrillation显示文摘The outcome of early intravenous thrombolysis for ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation(AF)is worse than that without thrombosis. How to increase the efficacy of intravenous thrombolysis for AF-related ischemic stroke remains largely unknown. In this study, we investigated factors that influence the effect of intravenous thrombolysis in these patients. Our results showed that thrombolysis was independently associated with a favorable outcome(P \ 0.001) and did not influence the mortality of AF-related ischemic stroke, although it increased the risk of hemorrhage within 24 h after treatment. Risk factors for a poor outcome at admission were:heart failure(P = 0.045); high systolic pressure(P = 0.039); high blood glucose(P = 0.030); and a high National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS) score(P \ 0.001). Moreover, high systolic pressure at admission(P = 0.007), high blood glucose(P = 0.027), and a high NIHSS score(P \ 0.001) were independent risk factors for mortality at 3 months. Besides thrombolysis, a high NIHSS score(P = 0.006) and warfarin taken within 48 h before stroke onset(P = 0.032) were also independent risk factors for symptomatic hemorrhage within 24 h after treatment. Ischemic stroke patients with AF benefited from intravenous thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator within 4.5 h after stroke.Qiuyun Zhao Xiaobo Li Wanli Dong Min Ye Yongjun Cao Meijuan Zhang Qiantao Cheng Junshan Zhou Guofang Chen Ming Yu Shanshan Hong Xiue Wei Bei Wang Guiyun Cui Peng Zhang Hong Ding Rongzhen Xu Yan Chen Yun Xu 2016Neuroscience Bulletin2016,32,2:13
Hyperinsulinemia,Insulin Resistance and Cognitive Decline in Older Cohort显示文摘Objective Type 2 diabetes has been recently recognized as an important risk factor for cognitive decline of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD).But the roles of hyperinsulinemia (HI) and insulin resistance (IR) in the development of AD are still controversial. This study was designed to evaluate whether HI or IR influenced the cognitive functions of older cohort. Methods The cognitive functions of 328 consecutive elderly patients were evaluated with a battery of cognitive rating scales.Their fasting blood glucose (FBG) and fasting insulin (FINS) were analyzed and IR was calculated with modified‐Homa. The cognitive scores in different groups and the correlation of cognitive functions with HI or IR were analyzed. Results In our study, there were 180 participants with HI and 148 without HI,and 192 with IR and 136 without IR.The participants with HI showed worse cognitive functions than those without HI in MMSE,MOCA,CDR,orientation, delayed memory, and attention/calculation domains.Similarly, the elderly with IR had lower cognitive scores than those without IR in MMSE,MOCA,CDR,GDS,orientation, delayed memory, and attention/calculation domains. The insulin levels and Homa IR had negative correlation with the scores of MMSE and delayed memory, not only in the model 1 adjusted for FBG and diabetes history, but also in the model 2 adjusted for all nine demographic characteristics. Conclusion HI and IR are important risk factors for cognitive decline of the elderly, especially for the dysfunctions in delayed memory domains.ZHONG Yuan MIAO Ya JIA Wei Ping YAN Hong WANG Bei Yun JIN Jun 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,1:11
Coexistence of multiple coronaviruses in several bat colonies in an abandoned mineshaft显示文摘Since the 2002–2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS) outbreak prompted a search for the natural reservoir of the SARS coronavirus, numerous alpha- and betacoronaviruses have been discovered in bats around the world. Bats are likely the natural reservoir of alpha- and betacoronaviruses, and due to the rich diversity and global distribution of bats, the number of bat coronaviruses will likely increase. We conducted a surveillance of coronaviruses in bats in an abandoned mineshaft in Mojiang County, Yunnan Province, China, from 2012–2013. Six bat species were frequently detected in the cave: Rhinolophus sinicus, Rhinolophus affinis, Hipposideros pomona, Miniopterus schreibersii, Miniopterus fuliginosus, and Miniopterus fuscus. By sequencing PCR products of the coronavirus RNA-dependent RNA polymerase gene(Rd Rp), we found a high frequency of infection by a diverse group of coronaviruses in different bat species in the mineshaft. Sequenced partial Rd Rp fragments had 80%–99% nucleic acid sequence identity with well-characterized Alphacoronavirus species, including Bt CoV HKU2, Bt CoV HKU8, and Bt CoV1,and unassigned species Bt CoV HKU7 and Bt CoV HKU10. Additionally, the surveillance identified two unclassified betacoronaviruses, one new strain of SARS-like coronavirus, and one potentially new betacoronavirus species. Furthermore, coronavirus co-infection was detected in all six bat species, a phenomenon that fosters recombination and promotes the emergence of novel virus strains. Our findings highlight the importance of bats as natural reservoirs of coronaviruses and the potentially zoonotic source of viral pathogens.Xing-Yi Ge Ning Wang Wei Zhang Ben Hu Bei Li Yun-Zhi Zhang Ji-Hua Zhou Chu-Ming Luo Xing-Lou Yang Li-Jun Wu Bo Wang Yun Zhang Zong-Xiao Li Zheng-Li Shi 2016Virologica Sinica2016,31,1:4
Least-Squares Solution of Inverse Problem for Hermitian Anti-reflexive Matrices and Its Appoximation显示文摘In this paper, we first consider the least-squares solution of the matrix inverse problem as follows: Find a hermitian anti-reflexive matrix corresponding to a given generalized reflection matrix J such that for given matrices X, B we have min_A ‖AX-B‖. The existence theorems are obtained, and a general representation of such a matrix is presented. We denote the set of such matrices by S_E. Then the matrix nearness problem for the matrix inverse problem is discussed. That is: Given an arbitrary A~*, find a matrix A ∈S_E which is nearest to A~* in Frobenius norm. We show that the nearest matrix is unique and provide an expression for this nearest matrix.Zhen Yun PENG Yuan Bei DENG Jin Wang LIU 2006Acta Mathematica Sinica,English Series2006,22,2:3

Genetic Evidence of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus(MERS-Cov) and Widespread Seroprevalence among Camels in Kenya显示文摘We describe the first genome isolation of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus(MERS-CoV) in Kenya. This fatal zoonotic pathogen was first described in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2012. Epidemiological and molecular evidence revealed zoonotic transmission from camels to humans and between humans. Currently, MERS-CoV is classified by the WHO as having high pandemic potential requiring greater surveillance. Previous studies of MERS-CoV in Kenya mainly focused on site-specific and archived camel and human serum samples for antibodies. We conducted active nationwide cross-sectional surveillance of camels and humans in Kenya, targeting both nasal swabs and plasma samples from 1,163 camels and 486 humans collected from January 2016 to June 2018. A total of 792 camel plasma samples were positive by ELISA. Seroprevalence increased with age, and the highest prevalence was observed in adult camels(82.37%, 95%confidence interval(CI) 79.50–84.91). More female camels were significantly seropositive(74.28%, 95% CI 71.14–77.19)than male camels(P \ 0.001)(53.74%, 95% CI 48.48–58.90). Only 11 camel nasal swabs were positive for MERS-CoV by reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. Phylogenetic analysis of whole genome sequences showed that Kenyan MERSCoV clustered within sub-clade C2, which is associated with the African clade, but did not contain signature deletions of orf4 b in African viruses. None of the human plasma screened contained neutralizing antibodies against MERS-CoV. This study confirms the geographically widespread occurrence of MERS-CoV in Kenyan camels. Further one-health surveillance approaches in camels, wildlife, and human populations are needed.Sheila Ommeh Wei Zhang Ali Zohaib Jing Chen Huajun Zhang Ben Hu Xing-Yi Ge Xing-Lou Yang Moses Masika Vincent Obanda Yun Luo Shan Li Cecilia Waruhiu Bei Li Yan Zhu Desterio Ouma Vincent Odendo Lin-Fa Wang Danielle E.Anderson Jacqueline Lichoti Erick Mungube Francis Gakuya Peng Zhou Kisa-Juma Ngeiywa Bing Yan Bernard Agwanda Zheng-Li Shi 2018Virologica Sinica2018,33,6:1

Large area^(3)He tube array detector with modular design for multi‑physics instrument at CSNS显示文摘The multi-physics instrument(MPI)is the first user cooperative instrument at the China Spallation Neutron Source(CSNS).It was designed to explore the structures of complex materials at multiple scales based on the neutron total scattering technique. This imposes the requirements for the detector, including a high detection efficiency to reduce the measurement time and a large solid angle coverage to cover a wide range of momentum transfers. To satisfy these demands,a large-area array of 3He-filled linear position-sensitive detectors(LPSDs)was constructed, each with a diameter of 1 inch and pressure of 20 atm.It uses an orbicular layout of the detector and an eight-pack module design for the arrangement of 3He LPSDs,covering a range of scattering angles from 3°to 170°with a total detector area of approximately 7 m2.The detector works in air, which is separated from the vacuum environment to facilitate installation and maintenance. The characteristics of the MPI detector were investigated through Monte Carlo(MC)simulations using Geant4 and experimental measurements. The results suggest that the detectors are highly efficient in the wavelength range of the MPI,and an efficiency over 25%is achievable for above 0.1 A neutrons.A minimal position resolution of 6.4 mm full width at half maximum(FWHM)along the tube length was achieved at a working voltage of 2200 V,and a deviation below 2 mm between the real and measured positions was attained in the beam experiment. The detector module exhibited good consistency and an excellent counting rate capacity of up to 80 kHz,which satisfied the requirements of experiments with a high event rate.Observations of its operation over the past year have shown that the detector works steadily in sample experiments, which allows the MPI to serve the user program successfully.Lin Zhu Jian‑Rong Zhou Yuan‑Guang Xia Liang Xiao Hong Luo Xiao‑Juan Zhou Wen‑Qin Yang Bei‑Ju Guan Xing‑Fen Jiang Yan‑Feng Wang Hong Xu Hai‑Yun Teng Li‑Xin Zeng Jia‑Jie Li Lei Hu Ke Zhou Yong‑Xiang Qiu Pei‑Xun Shen Jun Xu Li‑Jiang Liao Xiao‑Zhuang Wang Gui‑An Yang Huai‑Chan Chen Ju‑Ping Xu Zhi‑Duo Li Song‑Lin Wang Jian Zhuang Yu‑Bin Zhao Jun‑Rong Zhang Wen Yin Zhi‑Jia Sun Yuan‑Bo Chen 2023Nuclear Science and Techniques2023,34,1:0
Nutritional geometry framework of sucrose taste in Drosophila显示文摘Dietary protein(P)and carbohydrate(C)have a major impact on the sweet taste sensation. However,it remains unclear whether the balance of P and C influences the sweet taste sensitivity. Here,we use the nutritional geometry framework(NGF)to address the interaction of protein and carbohydrates on sweet taste using Drosophila as a model. Our results reveal that high-protein,low-carbohydrate(HPLC)diets sensitize to sweet taste and low-protein,high-carbohydrate(LPHC)diets desensitize sweet taste in both male and female flies. We further investigate the underlying mechanisms of the effects of two diets on sweet taste using RNA sequencing. When compared to the LPHC diet, the m RNA expression of genes involved in the metabolism of glycine, serine, and threonine is significantly upregulated in the HPLC diet group, suggesting these amino acids may mediate sweet taste perception. We further find that sweet sensitization occurs in flies fed with the LPHC diet supplemented with serine and threonine. Our study demonstrates that sucrose taste sensitivity is affected by the balance of dietary protein and carbohydrates possibly through changes in serine and threonine.An-Qi Li Sha-Sha Li Ruo-Xin Zhang Xin-Yuan Zhao Zhi-Ying Liu Yun Hu Bei Wang G Gregory Neely Stephen J.Simpson Qiao-Ping Wang 2023Journal of Genetics and Genomics2023,50,4:0
High-timing-precision detection of single X-ray photons by superconducting nanowires显示文摘Precisely acquiring the timing information of individual X-ray photons is important in both fundamental research and practical applications. The timing precision of commonly used X-ray single-photon detectors remains in the range of one hundred picoseconds to microseconds. In this work, we report on high-timing-precision detection of single X-ray photons through the fast transition to the normal state from the superconductive state of superconducting nanowires. We successfully demonstrate a free-running X-ray single-photon detector with a timing resolution of 20.1 ps made of 100-nm-thick niobium nitride film with an active area of 50 μm by 50 μm. By using a repeated differential timing measurement on two adjacent X-ray single-photon detectors, we demonstrate a precision of 0.87 ps in the arrival-time difference of X-ray photon measurements. Therefore, our work significantly enhances the timing precision in X-ray photon counting, opening a new niche for ultrafast X-ray photonics and many associated applications.Shuya Guo Jingrou Tan Hengbin Zhang Jinguang Wang Tianhao Ji Labao Zhang Xiaolong Hu Jian Chen Jun Xie Kai Zou Yun Meng Xiaomin Bei Ling-An Wu Qi Chen Hao Wang Xuecou Tu Xiaoqing Jia Qing-Yuan Zhao Lin Kang Peiheng Wu 2024National Science Review2024,11,1:0
