| 1 | A complete sequence and comparative analysis of a SARS-associated virus(Isolate BJ01)显示文摘The genome sequence of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)-associated virus provides essential information for the identification of pathogen(s), exploration of etiology and evolution, interpretation of transmission and pathogenesis, development of diagnostics, prevention by future vaccination, and treatment by developing new drugs. We report the complete genome sequence and comparative analysis of an isolate (BJ01) of the coronavirus that has been recognized as a pathogen for SARS. The genome is 29725 nt in size and has 11 ORFs (Open Reading Frames). It is composed of a stable region encoding an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (composed of 2 ORFs) and a variable region representing 4 CDSs (coding sequences) for viral structural genes (the S, E, M, N proteins) and 5 PUPs (putative uncharacterized proteins). Its gene order is identical to that of other known coronaviruses. The sequence alignment with all known RNA viruses places this virus as a member in the family of Coronaviridae. Thirty putative substitutions have been identified by comparative analysis of the 5 SARS- associated virus genome sequences in GenBank. Fifteen of them lead to possible amino acid changes (non-synonymous mutations) in the proteins. Three amino acid changes, with predicted alteration of physical and chemical features, have been detected in the S protein that is postulated to beinvolved in the immunoreactions between the virus and its host. Two amino acid changes have been detected in the Mprotein, which could be related to viral envelope formation. Phylogenetic analysis suggests the possibility of non-human origin of the SARS-associated viruses but provides noevidence that they are man-made. | 2 | Palaeozoic tectonic evolution of the Tianshan belt,NW China显示文摘The Chinese Tianshan belt is a major part of the southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt,extending westward to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.Its Paleozoic tectonic evolution,crucial for understanding the amalgamation of Central Asia,comprises two stages of subduction-collision.The first collisional stage built the Eo-Tianshan Mountains,before a Visean unconformity,in which all structures are verging north.It implied a southward subduction of the Central Tianshan Ocean beneath the Tarim active margin,that induced the Ordovician-Early Devonian Central Tianshan arc,to the south of which the South Tianshan back-arc basin opened.During the Late Devonian,the closure of this ocean led to a collision between Central Tianshan arc and the Kazakhstan-Yili-North Tianshan Block,and subsequently closure of the South Tianhan back-arc basin,producing two suture zones,namely the Central Tianshan and South Tianshan suture zones where ophiolitic mélanges and HP metamorphic rocks were emplaced northward.The second stage included the Late Devonian-Carboniferous southward subduction of North Tianshan Ocean beneath the Eo-Tianshan active margin,underlined by the Yili-North Tianshan arc,leading to the collision between the Kazakhstan-Yili-NTS plate and an inferred Junggar Block at Late Carboniferous-Early Permian time.The North Tianshan Suture Zone underlines likely the last oceanic closure of Central Asia Orogenic Belt;all the oceanic domains were consumed before the Middle Permian.The amalgamated units were affected by a Permian major wrenching,dextral in the Tianshan.The correlation with the Kazakh and Kyrgyz Tianshan is clarified.The Kyrgyz South Tianshan is equivalent to the whole part of Chinese Tianshan(CTS and STS) located to the south of Narat Fault and Main Tianshan Shear Zone;the so-called Middle Tianshan thins out toward the east.The South Tianshan Suture of Kyrgyzstan correlates with the Central Tianshan Suture of Chinese Tianshan.The evolution of this southern domain remains similar from east(Gangou area) to west until the Talas-Ferghana Fault,which reflects the convergence history between the Kazakhstan and Tarim blocks. | Jacques CHARVET SHU LiangShu Sebastien LAURENT-CHARVET WANG Bo Michel FAURE Dominique CLUZEL CHEN Yan Koen De JONG | 2011 | Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,2: | 57 |

| 5 | Evaluation of a granulated formula for the nerve root type and vertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis:a multicenter,single-blind,randomized,controlled,phase Ⅲ clinical trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of cervical spondylosis formula granules in reducing the symptoms of patients with the nerve root type and the vertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis.METHODS:This was a multicenter, single-blind,randomized, controlled trial.From April 2002 to November 2003, 499 patients were randomly assigned to either the treatment or the control group.The treatment group was orally administered granules prepared with a formula for cervical spondylosis, while the control group was given Jingfukang granules.The treatment course was 1 month for both groups.RESULTS:In patients with the nerve root type of cervical spondylosis, the total effect rate in the treatment group(87.21%) was significantly higher than that in the control group(80.70%, P < 0.01).After the treatment period in both groups, the treatment group had a significantly greater rate of resolution of pain, numbness of the upper limbs, muscle strength of the upper limbs, and fatigue than the control group(all P < 0.05).In patients with the vertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis, the total effect rate in the treatment group(82.07%) was similar to that in the control group(71.21%, P >0.05).After the treatment period in both groups,the treatment group had a significantly greater rate of resolution of weakness of the waist and knees than the control group(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION:The cervical spondylosis formula granules significantly improve numbness, muscle strength, and fatigue, and reduce pain in patients with the nerve root type of cervical spondylosis,and improve the weakness of the waist and knees in patients with the vertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis. | Luo Xiaodong Wang Peng Li Zhe Liang De Huang Feng Liu Jinwen Chen Xinyu Hu Guoheng Fang Suting Zhang Huajian | 2017 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2017,37,2: | 28 |

| 7 | Overexpression of p27^(KIP1)induced cell cycle arrest in G_1 phase and subsequent apoptosis in HCC-9204 cell line显示文摘AIM We have previously reported that inducibleover-expression of Bak may prolong cell cycle inG1 phase and lead to apoptosis in HCC-9204 cells.This study is to investigate whether p27KIP1playsan important role in this process.METHODS In order to elucidate the exactfunction of p27KIP1in this process,a zinc induciblep27KIP1stable transfectant and transient p27KIP1-GFP fusion transfectant were constructed.Theeffects of inducible,p27KIP1on cell growth,cellcycle arrest and apoptosis were examined in themock,control pMD vector,and pMD-KIP1transfected HCC-9204 cells.RESULTS This p27KIP1-GFP transfectant maytransiently express the fusion gene.The cellgrowth was reduced by 35% at 48 h of p27KIP1induction with zinc treatment as determined bytrypan blue exclusion assay.These differencesremained the same after 72 h of p27KIP1expression,p27KIP1caused cell cycle arrest after24 h of induction,with 40% increase in G1population.Prolonged p27KIP1expression in thiscell line induced apoptotic cell death reflected byTUNEL assay.Fourty-eight h and 72 h of p27KIP1expression showed a characteristic DNA ladder onagarose gel electrophoresis. | 9 | A win-win technique of stabilizing sand dune and purifying paper mill black-liquor显示文摘The principle and technique were reported here to produce lignin-based sand stabilizing material (LSSM) using extracted lignin from black liquor of straw paper mills. Field tests using LSSM to stabilize and green sand dunes were started in 2002. The field experiment was carried out in August 2005 when the newly formed plant community was 3 years old. The results from the comprehensive field experiment demonstrated that unlike polyvinyl acetate or foamed asphalt commonly used for dune stabilization, LSSM was plant- friendly material and could be used in combination with seeding and planting of desert species. With the help of LSSM, the desert species (i.e., Agriophyllum squarrosum (L.) Moq. and Artemisia desertorum Spreng. etc.) could be used to form community in 2-3 yeas and to stabilize sand dune effectively. The newly formed community was sustainable under an extremely dry climate condition. | 10 | Seroepidemiological Investigation of Lyme Disease and Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis among People Living in Forest Areas of Eight Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Lyme disease and Human granulocytic anaplasmosis are tick‐borne diseases caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum respectively. We have investigated infection and co-infection of the two diseases in the population of forest areas of eight provinces in China by measuring seroprevalence of antibodies against B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum. Methods Forest areas in 8 provinces were chosen for investigation using whole sampling and questionnaire survey methods. 3 669 serum samples from people in the forest areas were tested for the presence of antibodies by indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA). Results Seroprevalence against B. burgdorferi was 3% to 15% and against A. phagocytophilum was 2% to 18% in the study sites in the 8 provinces in China. We also found co-infection of B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum in 7 of the 8 provinces (the exception being the Miyun area in Beijing). The seroprevalence for both B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum was significantly higher among people exposed to ticks than among people who were not exposed to ticks. | 11 | Increase of TNFα-stimulated Osteoarthritic Chondrocytes Apoptosis and Decrease of Matrix Metalloproteinases 9 by NF-κB Inhibition显示文摘Objective To investigate the in vitro effect of caffeic acid phenethyl ester(CAPE),a NF-κB inhibitor,on the apoptosis of osteoarthritic(OA)chondrocytes and on the regulation of the gelatinases matrix metalloproteinase 2(MMP-2)and matrix metalloproteinase 9(MMP-9).Methods Annexin V-FITC/propidium iodide(PI)labeling and western blotting were used to observe and determine the apoptosis in TNFα-stimulated primary cultured osteoarthritic chondrocytes.Also,gelatin zymography was applied to examine MMP-2 and MMP-9 activities in supernatants.Results It was confirmed by both flow cytometry and western blotting that chondrocytes from OA patients have an apoptotic background.Use of CAPE in combination with 10 ng/mL of TNFα for 24 h facilitated the apoptosis.MMP-9 in the supernatant could be autoactivated(from proMMP-9 to active MMP-9),and the physiologic calcium concentration(2.5 mmol/L)could delay the autoactivation of MMP-9.The activities of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in the fresh supernatant increased significantly in response to stimulation by 10 ng/mL of TNFα for 24 h.The stimulatory effect of TNFα just on proMMP-9 was counteracted significantly by CAPE.Conclusion NF-κB could prevent chondrocytes apoptosis though its activation was attributed to the increase of proMMP-9 activity induced by TNFα(a pro-apoptotic factor).Therefore,therapeutic NF-κB inhibitor was a 'double-edged swords' to the apoptosis of chondrocytes and the secretion of MMP-9. | WANG Yan LI De Ling ZHANG Xin Bo DUAN Yuan Hui WU Zhi Hong HAO Dong Sheng CHEN Bao Sheng QIU Gui Xing | 2013 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2013,26,4: | 13 |
| 12 | Impact of water diversion on the morphological development of the Lower Yellow River显示文摘In this paper we carry out a theoretical analysis based on the general one-dimensional morphodynamic model for rivers in order to show how the morphological equilibrium of a river is influenced by water and sediment diversion/supply along the river. The results of the analysis show that large scale water diversions, like those along the Lower Yellow River, can cause the development of a convex riverbed profile in the long-term. Deposition will take place along the whole reach of the river, with an increasing deposition depth from downstream to upstream. The slope of the river bed increases from upstream to downstream. Furthermore, an analysis on the morphological time scale shows that this development in the Lower Yellow River will take a time period on the order of decades to centuries. The results of the analysis have been compared with observations in the Lower Yellow River. Since the second half of the 1980's large scale water diversions from the Yellow River have been taking place. | 14 | TNF-α and IL-1RA Polymorphisms and Silicosis Susceptibility in Chinese Workers Exposed to Silica Particles:A Case-Control Study显示文摘Objective To assess the association of TNF- α and IL-1RA SNPs with the risk of silicosis in Chinese workers exposed to silica particles. Methods Case-control study design was used to enroll 68 silicotic patients induced by silica particles and 68 healthy workers matched for length of silica particle exposure as controls. Both cases and controls were from the same company in southwest China, and each of them was requested to complete a questionnaire. Blood samples were drawn for genomic DNA extraction from each participant. The genotyping of TNF-α (-238 and -308) and IL-1RA (+2018) was performed using polymerase chain reaction-based restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and SYBR green-based quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), respectively. Unconditional logistic regression model was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and their 95% confidential intervals (CI) for SNPs. Results No significant differences were found between cases and controls in particles exposure length, body mass index (BMI), and status of smoking and alcohol consumption except for age (P=0.001) and blood type (P=0.042). The frequencies of TNF-α (-238) and IL-1RA (+2018) genotypes in cases were significantly different from those in controls, (P=0.001 and P=0.002, respectively), while a borderline significant difference was found in the frequencies of TNF-α (-308) between cases and controls (P=0.063). The variants of three SNPs increased the risk of silicosis in the Chinese workers exposed to silica particles. The adjusted ORs of TNF-α (-308), TNF-α (-238) and IL-1RA (+2018) were 2.8 (95% CI: 1.1-7.5), 20.9 (95% CI: 1.8-236.4) and 4.0 (95% CI: 1.6-10.1), respectively. Conclusion It is suggested that cytokine polymorphisms of TNF- α (-238, -308) and IL-1RA (+2018) are associated with the risk of silicosis in the Chinese workers exposed to silica particles. | 15 | The enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP显示文摘In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP. eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density, gravity and magnetism. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. | 17 | Influence of high-fluorine environmental background on crops and human health in hot spring-type fluorosis-diseased areas显示文摘Drinking water-type fluorosis is the most harmful endemic disease in China with the largest number of sufferers. Although the implementation of the policy to alter water sources to lower fluoride level has effectively controlled the spread of this kind of endemic disease,its prevalence could not thoroughly be stopped because the high-fluoride environmental background in these endemically diseased areas could still do harm to human health through food chain. Therefore,it is necessary to conduct a more deep-going study on the drinking water-type fluoro-sis. To investigate the effect of high fluorine environmental background on crops and human health in the hot spring-type fluorosis-diseased areas,local water,paddy soil,rice,whole vegetables and soils around their roots were sampled for analysis. The results were compared with those of the control groups in fluorosis-free areas which are similar to the fluorosis-diseased areas both in natural background and in social background. It is indicated that rice and vegetables can accumulate water-soluble fluorine either in soils or in irrigating water,and different crops have different abilities of fixing fluorine. The contents of fluorine in different parts of vegetables in the fluorosis-diseased and fluorosis-free areas were statistically categorized. The results showed that the fluorine contents of roots,tubers,leaves and flowers of vegetables in the fluorosis-diseased areas are 3.56,1.17,3.07 and 3.23 mg/kg,respectively. However,comparisons showed that in the fluorosis-free areas,the fluorine contents are 2.17,0.70,1.91 and 2.52 mg/kg,respectively. Moreover,different parts of a crop also show significantly different fluorine fixation abilities. It is demonstrated that the fluorine contents of the strongly metabolic parts are relatively high. For example,the fluo-rine contents of roots,leaves and flowers of vegetables are much higher than those of stems. The fluorine fixation ability of seeds is very weak. In order to reduce the risk of human body’s exposure to fluoride,the impact of hot spring water on the capability of crops to fix fluorine should be reduced as much as possible.
