2Oceanic plate subduction history in the western Pacific Ocean:Constraint from late Mesozoic evolution of the Tan-Lu Fault Zone显示文摘The NE-to NNE-striking Tan-Lu Fault Zone(TLFZ) is the largest fault zone in East China, and a typical representative for the circum-Pacific tectonics. Its late Mesozoic evolution resulted from subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate,and can be used for indication to the subduction history. The TLFZ reactivated at the end of Middle Jurassic since its origination in Middle Triassic. This phase of sinistral motion can only be recognized along the eastern edge of the Dabie-Sulu orogenis,and indicates initiation of the Paleo-Pacific(Izanagi) Plate subduction beneath the East China continent. After the Late Jurassic standstill, the fault zone experienced intense sinistral faulting again at the beginning of Early Cretaceous under N-S compression that resulted from the NNW-ward, low-angle, high-speed subduction of the Izanagi Plate. It turned into normal faulting in the rest of Early Cretaceous, which was simultaneous with the peak destruction of the North China Craton caused by backarc extension that resulted from rollback of the subducting Izanagi Plate. The TLFZ was subjected to sinistral, transpressive displacement again at the end of Early Cretaceous. This shortening event led to termination of the North China Craton destruction. The fault zone suffered local normal faulting in Late Cretaceous due to the far-field, weak backarc extension. The late Mesozoic evolution of the TLFZ show repeated alternation between the transpressive strike-slip motion and normal faulting. 5Lithofacies palaeogeography of the Carboniferous and Permian in the Qinshui Basin, Shanxi Province, China显示文摘The Qinshui Basin in the southeastern Shanxi Province is an important area for coalbed methane(CBM) exploration and production in China, and recent exploration has revealed the presence of other unconventional types of gas such as shale gas and tight sandstone gas. The reservoirs for these unconventional types of gas in this basin are mainly the coals, mudstones, and sandstones of the Carboniferous and Permian; the reservoir thicknesses are controlled by the depositional environments and palaeogeography. This paper presents the results of sedimentological investigations based on data from outcrop and borehole sections, and basin-wide palaeogeographical maps of each formation were reconstructed on the basis of the contours of a variety of lithological parameters. The palaeogeographic units include the depositional environments of the fluvial channel, flood basin(lake), upper delta plain, lower delta plain, delta front, lagoon, tidal flat, barrier bar, and carbonate platform.The Benxi and Taiyuan Formations are composed mainly of limestones, bauxitic mudstones,siltstones, silty mudstones, sandstones, and economically exploitable coal seams, which were formed in delta, tidal flat, lagoon, and carbonate platform environments. The Shanxi Formation consists of sandstones, siltstones, mudstones, and coals; during the deposition of the formation, the northern part of the Qinshui Basin was occupied mainly by an upper delta plain environment, while the central and southern parts were mainly occupied by a lower delta plain environment and the southeastern part by a delta front environment. Thick coal zones occur in the central and southern parts, where the main depositional environment was a lower delta plain. The thick coal zones of the Taiyuan Formation evidently occur in the sandstone-rich belts, located mainly in the lower delta plain environment in the northern part of the basin and the barrier bar environments in the southeastern part of the basin. In contrast, the thick coal zones of the Shanxi Formation extend over the mudstone-rich belts, located in the areas of the lower delta plain environments of the central and southern parts of the Basin.The Xiashihezi, Shangshihezi, and Shiqianfeng Formations consist mainly of red mudstones with thick-interbedded sandstones. During the deposition of these formations, most areas of the basin were occupied by a fluvial channel, resulting in palaeogeographic units that include fluvial channel zones and flood basins. 7Long-term outcomes of a phase Ⅱ randomized controlled trial comparing intensity-modulated radiotherapy with or without weekly cisplatin for the treatment of locally recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma显示文摘Background:Salvage treatment for locally recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) is complicated and relatively limited.Radiotherapy,combined with effective concomitant chemotherapy,may improve clinical treatment outcomes.We conducted a phase Ⅱ randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of intensity-modulated radiotherapy with concomitant weekly cisplatin on locally recurrent NPC.Methods:Between April 2002 and January 2008,69 patients diagnosed with non-metastatic locally recurrent NPC were randomly assigned to either concomitant chemoradiotherapy group(n = 34) or radiotherapy alone group(n = 35).All patients received intensity-modulated radiotherapy.The radiotherapy dose for both groups was 60 Gy in 27 fractions for 37 days(range 23-53 days).The concomitant chemotherapy schedule was cisplatin 30 mg/m^2 by intravenous infusion weekly during radiotherapy.Results:The median follow-up period of all patients was 35 months(range 2-112 months).Between concomitant chemoradiotherapy and radiotherapy groups,there was only significant difference in the 3-year and 5-year overall survival(OS) rates(68.7%vs.42.2%,P = 0.016 and 41.8%vs.27.5%,P = 0.049,respectively).Subgroup analysis showed that concomitant chemoradiotherapy significantly improved the 5-year OS rate especially for patients in stage rT3-4(33.0%vs.13.2%,P = 0.009),stages Ⅲ-Ⅳ(34.3%vs.13.2%,P = 0.006),recurrence interval >30 months(49.0%vs.20.6%,P = 0.017),and tumor volume >26 cm^3(37.6%vs.0%,P = 0.006).Conclusion:Compared with radiotherapy alone,concomitant chemoradiotherapy can improve OS of the patients with locally recurrent NPC,especially those with advanced T category(rT3-4) and stage(lll-IV) diseases,recurrence intervals >30 months,and tumor volume >26 cm^3.Ying Guan Shuai Liu Han-Yu Wang Ying Guo Wei-Wei Xiao Chun-Yan Chen Chong Zhao Tai-Xiang Lu Fei Han 2016Chinese Journal of Cancer2016,35,4:19
8Clinicopathological Characteristics and Prognosis of Hepatoid Adenocarcinoma of the Stomach:Evaluation of a Pooled Case Series显示文摘Hepatoid adenocarcinoma of the stomach (HAS)is an extremely rare and unique gastric malignancy.The present study aimed to examine the relevance of the clinicopathological characteristics of HAS with patient prognosis.We retrospectively reviewed clinical data of 34 HAS patients treated at our institution between January 2010 and December 2016,as well as 294 cases reported prior to 2017 in research databases.Among these patients,45.6%(115/252)had lesions in the gastric antrum and 77.0%(235/305)were male.Elevated levels of serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)were detected in most patients(75/93,80.6%).Vascular invasion(199/286,69.6%),lymph node metastasis (222/283,78.4%),and preoperative distant metastasis (121/328,36.9%)were commonly observed.The 5-year disease-free survival (DFS)and disease-specific survival (DSS) were 20.7%and 29.2%,respectively.DFS and DSS of patients receiving neoadjuvant therapy were significantly higher than those of patients receiving postoperative adjuvant therapy [DFS:P<0.001, hazard ratio (HR)=-1.831,95%confidence interval (CI):0.060-0.429;DSS:P<0.001,HR=-2.185, 95%CI:0.032-0.401].In conclusion,HAS exhibits distinct clinicopathological characteristics and a strikingly worse prognosis when compared with common gastric cancer.Complete surgery,early pTNM stage,and adjuvant therapy may predict a more favorable prognosis.Neoadjuvant therapy is strongly recommended for patients with lymph node metastasis or/and preoperative distant metastasis.Xiang-yu ZENG Yu-ping YIN Hua XIAO Peng ZHANG Jun HE Wei-zhen LIU Jin-bo GAO Xiao-ming SHUAI Guo-bin WANG Xiu-li WU Kai-xiong TAO 2018Current Medical Science2018,38,6:17

11Deworming of stray dogs and wild canines with praziquantel-laced baits delivered by an unmanned aerial vehicle in areas highly endemic for echinococcosis in China显示文摘Background:Canines,the definitive hosts for the parasites causing alveolar(AE)and cystic echinococcosis(CE),are the main source of this infections playing the key role in the transmission.The ten-year mortality rate of AE is extremely high(94%)if the patients are not given sustained treatment.The aim of this field study is to explore the possibility of delivery of praziquantel-laced baits using unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)aimed at deworming wild canines in the endemic areas.Methods:UAVs were compared to manual bait delivery in the 1-km^(2)test areas followed by testing of canine faeces using an Echinococcus coproantigen ELISA test in the ensuing year.The outcomes of the two approaches were compared with respect to time of delivery and overall cost.Findings:Compared to manual bait delivery,delivery by UAVs saved up to 67%of the overall cost.Three times more staff was needed for the former approach compared to the latter and,time wise,UAV bait delivery saved 350%compared to manual bait delivery on average.With regard to investment needed,the use of UAVs showed an efficiency 2.5 times better than manual bait delivery.Compared to the area served by UAVs,the average positive rate for the canine faecal samples was more than 38%higher in the area served manually.Conclusion:The technique of bait delivery with praziquantel using UAVs for canine deworming has a strong potential with regard to savings of manpower,time and overall cost in areas highly endemic for echinococcosis.Qing Yu Ning Xiao Shi-jie Yang Shuai Han 2017Infectious Diseases of Poverty2017,6,1:12
12First mass measurement of short-lived nuclides at HIRFL-CSR显示文摘Recent commissioning of the HIRFL-CSR has demonstrated its ability to perform direct mass measurement for short-lived nuclides. Projectile fragments produced by the 78Kr ions at 481.88 MeV/u were separated with the new radioactive beam line in Lanzhou (RIBLL2), and injected into and stored in the experimental storage ring (CSRe). By operating the CSRe as an isochronous mass spectrometry, a typical mass resolution around 2.0×10?5 has been achieved. The masses for 63Ge, 65As and 67Se were measured for the first time. The measured masses are compared with theoretical predictions and the location of the proton drip-line for As isotopes is discussed. 13Role of macrophages in peripheral nerve injury and repair显示文摘Resident and inflammatory macrophages are essential effectors of the innate immune system. These cells provide innate immune defenses and regulate tissue and organ homeostasis. In addition to their roles in diseases such as cancer, obesity and osteoarthritis, they play vital roles in tissue repair and disease rehabilitation. Macrophages and other inflammatory cells are recruited to tissue injury sites where they promote changes in the microenvironment. Among the inflammatory cell types, only macrophages have both pro-inflammatory (Ml) and anti-inflammatory (M2) actions, and M2 macrophages have four subtypes. The co-action of Ml and M2 subtypes can create a favorable microenvironment, releasing cytokines for damaged tissue repair. In this review, we discuss the activation of macrophages and their roles in severe peripheral nerve injury. 14Limb remote ischemic postconditioning protects integrity of the blood-brain barrier after stroke显示文摘Integrity of the blood-brain barrier structure is essential for maintaining the internal environment of the brain.Development of cerebral infarction and brain edema is strongly associated with blood-brain barrier leakage.Therefore,studies have suggested that protecting the blood-brain barrier may be an effective method for treating acute stroke.To examine this possibility,stroke model rats were established by middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion.Remote ischemic postconditioning was immediately induced by three cycles of 10-minute ischemia/10-minute reperfusion of bilateral hind limbs at the beginning of middle cerebral artery occlusion reperfusion.Neurological function of rat models was evaluated using Zea Longa's method.Permeability of the blood-brain barrier was assessed by Evans blue leakage.Infarct volume and brain edema were evaluated using 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining.Expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and claudin-5 m RNA was determined by real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.Expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and claudin-5 protein was measured by western blot assay.The number of matrix metalloproteinase-9-and claudin-5-positive cells was analyzed using immunohistochemistry.Our results showed that remote ischemic postconditioning alleviated disruption of the blood-brain barrier,reduced infarct volume and edema,decreased expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 m RNA and protein and the number of positive cells,increased expression of claudin-5 m RNA and protein and the number of positive cells,and remarkably improved neurological function.These findings confirm that by suppressing expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and claudin-5 induced by acute ischemia/reperfusion,remote ischemic postconditioning reduces blood-brain barrier injury,mitigates ischemic injury,and exerts protective effects on the brain.Juan Li Xiao-Song Hu Fang-Fang Zhou Shuai Li You-Sheng Lin Wen-Qian Qi Cun-Fang Qi Xiao Zhang 2018Neural Regeneration Research2018,13,9:11

17Simulated Microgravity Conditions and Carbon Ion Irradiation Induce Spermatogenic Cell Apoptosis and Sperm DNA Damage显示文摘Objective To investigate the effect of simulated microgravity and carbon ion irradiation(CIR) on spermatogenic cell apoptosis and sperm DNA damage to the testis of male Swiss Webster mice,and assess the risk associated with space environment.Methods Sperm DNA damage indicated by DNA fragmentation index(DFI) and high DNA stainability(HDS) was measured by sperm chromatin structure assay(SCSA).Apoptosis of spermatogenic cells was detected by annexin V-propidium iodide assay.Bax(the expression levels of p53) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) were measured by immunoblotting;p53 and PCNA were located by immunohistology.Results HDS,DFI,apoptosis index,and the expression levels of p53 and Bax were detected to be significantly higher in the experimental groups(P<0.05) compared with those in the control group;however,the PCNA expression varied to a certain degree.p53-and PCNA-positive expression were detected in each group,mainly in relation to the spermatogonic cells and spermatocytes.Conclusion The findings of the present study demonstrated that simulated microgravity and CIR can induce spermatogenic cell apoptosis and sperm DNA damage.Sperm DNA damage may be one of the underlying mechanisms behind male fertility decline under space environment.These findings may provide a scientific basis for protecting astronauts and space traveler's health and safety.LI Hong Yan ZHANG Hong MIAO Guo Ying XIE Yi SUN Chao DI Cui Xia LIU Yang LIU Yuan Yuan ZHANG Xin MA Xiao Fei XU Shuai GAN Lu ZHOU Xin 2013Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2013,26,9:10
18Petrogenesis, Tectonic Evolution and Geothermal Implications of Mesozoic Granites in the Huangshadong Geothermal Field, South China显示文摘Mesozoic multi-stage tectono-magmatic events produced widely distributed granitoids in the South China Block. Huangshadong(HSD) is located in south-eastern South China Block, where closely spaced hot springs accompany outcrops of Mesozoic granites. New data on whole-rock geochemistry, zircon U-Pb geochronology, and zircon Lu-Hf isotopes are presented, to study the petrogenesis and tectonic evolution of the granites, and to explore the relationship between granites and geothermal anomalies. Zircon U-Pb isotopes display three periods of granites in the HSD area: Indosinian(ca. 253 Ma, G4) muscovite-bearing monzonitic granite, early Yanshanian(ca. 175–155 Ma, G5 and G3) monzonitic granite and granodiorite, and late Yanshanian(ca. 140 Ma, G1 and G2) biotite monzonitic granite. In petrogenetic type, granites of the three periods are I-type granite. Among them, G1, G2, G3, and G4 are characterized by high fractionation, with high values of SiO2, alkalis, Ga/Al, and Rb/Sr, and depletion in Sr, Ba, Zr, Nb, Ti, REEs, with low(La/Yb)N, Nb/Ta, and Zr/Hf ratios and negative Eu anomalies. In terms of tectonic setting, 253 Ma G4 may be the product of partial melting of the ancient lower crust under post-orogenic extensional tectonics, as the closure of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean resulted in an intracontinental orogeny. At 175 Ma, the subduction of the Pacific Plate became the dominant tectonic system, and low-angle subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate facilitated partial melting of the subducted oceanic crust and basement to generate the hornblende-bearing I-type granodiorite. As the dip angle of the subducting plate increased, the continental arc tectonic setting was transformed to back-arc extension, inducing intense partial melting of the lower crust at ca. 158 Ma and resulting in the most frequent granitic magmatic activity in the South China hinterland. When slab foundering occurred at ca. 140 Ma, underplating of mantle-derived magmas caused melting of the continental crust, generating extensive highly fractionated granites in HSD. Combining the granitic evolution of HSD and adjacent areas and radioactive heat production rates, it is suggested that highly fractionated granites are connected to the enrichments in U and Th with magma evolution. The high radioactive heat derived from the Yanshanian granites is an important part of the crustal heat, which contributes significantly to the terrestrial heat flow. 19Large-Scale Membrane Bioreactors for Industrial Wastewater Treatment in China:Technical and Economic Features,Driving Forces,and Perspectives显示文摘Membrane bioreactors(MBRs)have been and will continue playing an important role in industrial wastewater treatment and reuse in China.The sustainable development of MBR technology in its mature-application stage requires reciprocal interactions between engineering and research participants.Thus,in this study,a total of 182 large-scale MBR projects treating industrial wastewater(with individual treatment capacities5000 m3d1)commissioned and under construction from 2003 to 2019 were analyzed comprehensively.Fast growth of the cumulative treatment capacity was observed,with extension to diverse industries,and the super large-scale was enhanced recently.The treatment processes,pollutant removal efficiencies,and actual operational parameters were summarized regarding the particularity of industrial wastewater compared to municipal wastewater.Economic features including the total investment costs of the projects,their total footprint,and their operational energy consumption were analyzed as well.A vigorous MBR market has formed in China with the fast development of membrane elements and engineering suppliers,continuously increasing official oriented projects,and responsive and innovative business modes.MBR technology has been mostly applied in specific economic zones and water-deficient areas,but its widespread use all over China is foreseeable considering the vast future market for industrial wastewater treatment and recycling.The policy–economy and market–technology driving forces revealed that MBR is consistent with the national development demand.According to the survey and analysis,prospective development in both engineering and research aspects of MBR is proposed to maintain its competitive edge.Jiao Zhang Kang Xiao Ziwei Liu Tingwei Gao Shuai Liang Xia Huang 2021Engineering2021,7,6:9
20Finer-Resolution Mapping of Global Land Cover: Recent Developments, Consistency Analysis, and Prospects显示文摘Land-cover mapping is one of the foundations of Earth science.As a result of the combined efforts of many scientists,numerous global land-cover(GLC)products with a resolution of 30 m have so far been generated.However,the increasing number of fineresolution GLC datasets is imposing additional workloads as it is necessary to confirm the quality of these datasets and check their suitability for user applications.To provide guidelines for users,in this study,the recent developments in currently available 30 m GLC products(including three GLC products and thematic products for four different land-cover types,i.e.,impervious surface,forest,cropland,and inland water)were first reviewed.Despite the great efforts toward improving mapping accuracy that there have been in recent decades,the current 30 m GLC products still suffer from having relatively low accuracies of between 46.0%and 88.9%for GlobeLand30-2010,57.71%and 80.36%for FROM_GLC-2015,and 65.59%and 84.33%for GLC_FCS30-2015.The reported accuracies for the global 30 m thematic maps vary from 67.86%to 95.1%for the eight impervious surface products that were reviewed,56.72%to 97.36%for the seven forest products,32.73%to 98.3%for the six cropland products,and 15.67%to 99.7%for the six inland water products.The consistency between the current GLC products was then examined.The GLC maps showed a good overall agreement in terms of spatial patterns but a limited agreement for some vegetation classes(such as shrub,tree,and grassland)in specific areas such as transition zones.Finally,the prospects for fine-resolution GLC mapping were also considered.With the rapid development of cloud computing platforms and big data,the Google Earth Engine(GEE)greatly facilitates the production of global fine-resolution land-cover maps by integrating multisource remote sensing datasets with advanced image processing and classification algorithms and powerful computing capability.The synergy between the spectral,spatial,and temporal features derived from multisource satellite datasets and stored in cloud computing platforms will definitely improve the classification accuracy and spatiotemporal resolution of fineresolution GLC products.In general,up to now,most land-cover maps have not been able to achieve the maximum(per class or overall)error of 5%–15%required by many applications.Therefore,more efforts are needed toward improving the accuracy of these GLC products,especially for classes for which the accuracy has so far been low(such as shrub,wetland,tundra,and grassland)and in terms of the overall quality of the maps.Liangyun Liu Xiao Zhang Yuan Gao Xidong Chen Xie Shuai Jun Mi 2021Journal of Remote Sensing2021,,1:9
