| 2 | Investigation of Mg–Zn–Y–Nd alloy for potential application of biodegradable esophageal stent material显示文摘In recent years,due to unhealthy dietary habits and other reasons,advanced esophageal cancer patients are on the rise,threatening human health and life safety at all times.Stents implantation as an important complementary or alternative method for chemotherapy has been widely applied in clinics.However,the adhesion and proliferation of pathological cells,such as tumor cells,fibroblasts and epithelial cells,may interfere the efficacy of stents.Further multiple implantation due to restenosis may also bring pain to patients.In this contribution,we preferred a biodegradable material Mg–Zn–Y–Nd alloy for potential application of esophageal stent.The hardness testing showed that Mg–Zn–Y–Nd alloy owned less mechanical properties compared with the commercial esophageal stents material,317L stainless steel(317L SS),while Mg–Zn–Y–Nd displayed significantly better biodegradation than 317L SS.Cell apoptosis assay indicated Mg–Zn–Y–Nd inhibited adhesion and proliferation of tumor cells,fibroblasts and epithelial cells.Our research suggested potential application of Mg–Zn–Y–Nd alloy as a novel material for biodegradable esophageal stent. | Shuo Wang Xueqi Zhang Jingan Li Changsheng Liu Shaokang Guan | 2020 | Bioactive Materials2020,5,1: | 7 |
| 3 | Potential risks and challenges of climate change in the arid region of northwestern China显示文摘In the arid region of northwestern China(ARNC),water resources are the most critical factor restricting socioeconomic development and influencing the stability of the area’s ecological systems.The region’s complex water system and unique hydrological cycle show distinctive characteristics.Moreover,the intensified hydrological cycle and extreme climatic and hydrological events resulting from global warming have led to increased uncertainty around water resources as well as heightened conflict between water supply and water demand.All of these factors are exerting growing pressures on the socioeconomic development and vulnerable ecological environment in the region.This research evaluates the impacts of climate change on water resources,hydrological processes,agricultural system,and desert ecosystems in the ARNC,and addresses some associated risks and challenges specific to this area.The temperature is rising at a rate of 0.31C per decade during 1961–2017 and hydrological processes are being significantly influenced by changes in glaciers,snow cover,and precipitation form,especially in the rivers recharged primarily by melt water.Ecosystems are also largely influenced by climate change,with the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI)of natural vegetation exhibited an increasing trend prior to 1998,and then reversed in Xinjiang while the Hexi Corridor of Gansu showed the opposite trends.Furthermore,the desert-oasis transition zone showed a reduction in area due to the warming trend and the recent rapid expansion of irrigated area.Both the warming and intensified drought are threatening agriculture security.The present study could shed light on sustainable development in this region under climate change and provides scientific basis to the construction of the“Silk Road Economic Belt”. | Yaning Chen Xueqi Zhang Gonghuan Fang Zhi Li Fei Wang Jingxiu Qin Fan Sun | 2020 | Regional Sustainability2020,1,1: | 6 |

| 5 | Hepatitis B virus evades immune recognition via RNA adenosine deaminase ADAR1-mediated viral RNA editing in hepatocytes显示文摘HBV is considered as a“stealth”virus that does not invoke interferon(IFN)responses;however,the mechanisms by which HBV bypasses innate immune recognition are poorly understood.In this study,we identified adenosine deaminases acting on RNA 1(ADAR1),which is a key factor in HBV evasion from IFN responses in hepatocytes.Mechanically,ADAR1 interacted with HBV RNAs and deaminated adenosine(A)to generate inosine(I),which disrupted host immune recognition and thus promoted HBV replication.Loss of ADAR1 or its deficient deaminase activity promoted IFN responses and inhibited HBV replication in hepatocytes,and blocking the IFN signaling pathways released the inhibition of HBV replication caused by ADAR1 deficiency.Notably,the HBV X protein(HBx)transcriptionally promoted ADAR1 expression to increase the threshold required to trigger intrinsic immune activation,which in turn enhanced HBV escape from immune recognition,leading to persistent infection.Supplementation with 8-azaadenosine,an ADAR1 inhibitor,efficiently enhanced liver immune activation to promote HBV clearance in vivo and in vitro.Taken together,our results delineate a molecular mechanism by which HBx promotes ADAR1-derived HBV immune escape and suggest a targeted therapeutic intervention for HBV infection. | Liyuan Wang Yang Sun Xiaojia Song Zehua Wang Yankun Zhang Ying Zhao Xueqi Peng Xiaodong Zhang Chunyang Li Chengjiang Gao Nailin Li Lifen Gao Xiaohong Liang Zhuanchang Wu Chunhong Ma | 2021 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,8: | 2 |
| 6 | Oxymatrine Inhibits Bocavirus MVC Replication, Reduces Viral Gene Expression and Decreases Apoptosis Induced by Viral Infection显示文摘Oxymatrine(OMT), as the main active component of Sophoraflavescens, exhibits a variety of pharmacological properties,including anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and anti-viral activities, and currently is extensively employed to treat viral hepatitis; however, its effects on parvovirus infection have yet to be reported. In the present study, we investigated the effects of OMT on cell viability, virus DNA replication, viral gene expression, cell cycle, and apoptosis in Walter Reed canine cells/3873 D infected with minute virus of canines(MVC). OMT, at concentrations below 4 mmol/L(no cellular toxicity), was found to inhibit MVC DNA replication and reduce viral gene expression at both mRNA and protein levels, which was associated with the inhibition of cell cycle S-phase arrest in early-stage of MVC infection.Furthermore, OMT significantly increased cell viability, decreased MVC-infected cell apoptosis, and reduced the expression of activated caspase 3. | 17 | Numerical Investigation of a Centrifugal Compressor with a Pre-Compression Wedge Diffuser under High Subsonic Conditions显示文摘As the total pressure ratio of centrifugal compressors increases, the diffuser inlet flow becomes highly subsonic or even supersonic, which causes additional shock loss. The shock loss leads the stage performance to drop greatly. Pre-compression is an efficient method for reducing shock loss and improving the stage performance. To study the effect of wedge diffusers with pre-compression blades on centrifugal compressor performance, wedge diffusers with various pre-compression angles, divergence angles and numbers of blades were designed and investigated via a numerical method. As a result, it is found that the compressor stage achieves high peak efficiency when the pre-compression angle ranges from 2.5° to 5.5° and when the divergence angle ranges from 7° to 9°.
