| 3 | Machine learning of mechanical properties of steels显示文摘Knowledge of the mechanical properties of structural materials is essential for their practical applications. In the present work,three-hundred and sixty data samples on four mechanical properties of steels—fatigue strength, tensile strength, fracture strength and hardness—were selected from the Japan National Institute of Material Science database, comprising data on carbon steels and low-alloy steels. Five machine learning algorithms were used to predict the mechanical properties of the materials represented by the three-hundred and sixty data samples, and random forest regression showed the best predictive performance.Feature selection conducted by random forest and symbolic regressions revealed the four most important features that most influence the mechanical properties of steels: the tempering temperature of steel, and the alloying elements of carbon, chromium and molybdenum. Mathematical expressions were generated via symbolic regression, and the expressions explicitly predicted how each of the four mechanical properties varied quantitatively with the four most important features. | 11 | Temperature dependent Grüneisen parameter显示文摘Grüneisen parameter is one of the most valuable quantities in thermodynamics, which links the material properties of bulk modulus, heat capacity at constant volume, thermal expansion coefficient, and volume together. A new thermodynamic model of temperature-dependent potential energy is proposed here to investigate the temperature dependent Grüneisen parameter of bulk material. The newly developed thermodynamic model leads to temperature dependent analytical solutions of Grüneisen parameter and other thermo-mechanical properties including the Grüneisen equation of state. Molecular dynamics simulations are conducted on single crystalline Ni, Cu, and Au bulk crystals and the simulation results verify the newly developed thermodynamic model and quantitively evaluate the theoretically derived physical quantities. Based on the classical Gibbs and Mc Lean adsorption isotherms, the present study takes the freestanding nanometer thick films of Pd-H solid solutions as a typic example to investigate surface segregation of hydrogen. The surface eigenstress model is further developed here to give analytic formulas, which have the capability to quantitatively predict the size-dependent surface segregation. Molecular dynamics(MD) simulations are conducted on free-standing Pd-H nanofilms.The MD simulations verify the theoretical analytic results and determine the values of parameters involved in the theoretical analysis. The integrated theoretical and numerical study exhibits that both surface excess H concentration and apparent biaxial Young’s modulus of Pd-H thin films depend on the nominal H concentration and the film thickness. The MD simulations determine the values of three parameters involved in the theoretical analysis.
