| 1 | Annual report on status of cancer in China,2010显示文摘Objective:Population-based cancer registration data in 2010 were collected,evaluated and analyzed by the National Central Cancer Registry(NCCR) of China.Cancer incident new cases and cancer deaths were estimated.Methods:There were 219 cancer registries submitted cancer incidence and death data in 2010.All data were checked and evaluated on basis of the criteria of data quality from NCCR.Total 145 registries' data were qualified and accepted for cancer statistics in 2010.Pooled data were stratified by urban/rural,area,sex,age group and cancer site.Cancer incident cases and deaths were estimated using age-specific rates and national population.The top ten common cancers in different groups,proportion and cumulative rate were also calculated.Chinese census in 2000 and Segi's population were used for age-standardized incidence/ mortality rates.Results:All 145 cancer registries(63 in urban and 82 in rural) covered a total of 158,403,248 population(92,433,739 in urban and 65,969,509 in rural areas).The estimates of new cancer incident cases and cancer deaths were 3,093,039 and 1,956,622 in 2010,respectively.The morphology verified cases(MV%) accounted for 67.11% and 2.99% of incident cases were identified through death certifications only(DCO%) with mortality to incidence ratio(M/I) of 0.61.The crude incidence rate was 235.23/100,000(268.65/100,000 in males,200.21/100,000 in females),age-standardized incidence rates by Chinese standard population(ASIRC,2000) and by world standard population(ASIRW) were 184.58/100,000 and 181.49/100,000 with the cumulative incidence rate(0-74 years old) of 21.11%.The cancer incidence and ASIRC were 256.41/100,000 and 187.53/100,000 in urban areas whereas in rural areas,they were 213.71/100,000 and 181.10/100,000,respectively.The crude cancer mortality in China was 148.81/100,000(186.37/100,000 in males and 109.42/100,000 in females),age-standardized incidence rates by Chinese standard population(ASMRC,2000) and by world standard population(ASMRW) were 113.92/100,000 and 112.86/100,000,and the cumulative incidence rate(0-74 years old) was 12.78%.The cancer mortality and ASMRC were 156.14/100,000 and 109.21/100,000 in urban areas,whereas in rural areas,they were 141.35/100,000 and 119.00/100,000 respectively.Lung cancer,gastric cancer,colorectal cancer,liver cancer,esophageal cancer,pancreas cancer,encephaloma,lymphoma,female breast cancer and cervical cancer,were the most common cancers,accounting for 75% of all cancer cases in urban and rural areas.Lung cancer,gastric cancer,liver cancer,esophageal cancer,colorectal cancer,pancreatic cancer,breast cancer,encephaloma,leukemia and lymphoma accounted for 80% of all cancer deaths.Conclusions:The coverage of cancer registration population had a rapid increase and could reflect cancer burden in each area and population.As the basis of cancer control program,cancer registry plays an irreplaceable role in cancer epidemic surveillance,evaluation of cancer control programs and making anticancer strategy.China is facing serious cancer burden and prevention and control should be enhanced. | Wanqing Chen Rongshou Zheng Siwei Zhang Ping Zhao Hongmei Zeng Xiaonong Zou Jie He | 2014 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2014,26,1: | 198 |
| 2 | Cancer incidence and mortality in China, 2014显示文摘Background: National Central Cancer Registry of China(NCCRC) updated nationwide cancer statistics using population-based cancer registry data in 2014 collected from all available cancer registries.Methods: In 2017, 449 cancer registries submitted cancer registry data in 2014, among which 339 registries' data met the criteria of quality control and were included in analysis. These cancer registries covered 288,243,347 population, accounting for about 21.07% of the national population in 2014. Numbers of nationwide new cancer cases and deaths were estimated using calculated incidence and mortality rates and corresponding national population stratified by area, sex, age group and cancer type. The world Segi's population was applied for agestandardized rates.Results: A total of 3,804,000 new cancer cases were diagnosed, the crude incidence rate was 278.07/100,000(301.67/100,000 in males, 253.29/100,000 in females) and the age-standardized incidence rate by world standard population(ASIRW) was 186.53/100,000. Calculated age-standardized incidence rate was higher in urban areas than in rural areas(191.6/100,000 vs. 179.2/100,000). South China had the highest cancer incidence rate while Southwest China had the lowest incidence rate. Cancer incidence rate was higher in female for population between20 to 54 years but was higher in male for population younger than 20 years or over 54 years. A total of 2,296,000 cancer deaths were reported, the crude mortality rate was 167.89/100,000(207.24/100,000 in males,126.54/100,000 in females) and the age-standardized mortality rate by world standard population(ASMRW) was106.09/100,000. Calculated age-standardized mortality rate was higher in rural areas than in urban areas(110.3/100,000 vs. 102.5/100,000). East China had the highest cancer mortality rate while North China had the lowest mortality rate. The mortality rate in male was higher than that in female. Common cancer types and major causes of cancer death differed between age group and sex.Conclusions: Heavy cancer burden and its disparities between area, sex and age group pose a major challenge to public health in China. | 3 | Biocompatibility of bio-Mg-Zn alloy within bone with heart, liver, kidney and spleen显示文摘A magnesium-zinc alloy rod was implanted into the marrow cavity of the distal femur in New Zealand rabbits. The femur with the implanted alloy was compared with the contralateral femur in which a bone tunnel without implant was formed as a control. Degradation of the magnesium-zinc alloy was analyzed via X-ray, scanning electron microscopy, and element energy spectrum analysis. Serum magnesium, liver and kidney function tests, and myocardial enzymes were measured. Heart, liver, kidney and spleen were sectioned for pathological analysis, and the effects of the implanted material on the histology and function of important organs were analyzed. Magnesium-zinc alloy was resorbed from the bone marrow cavity of the femur; 87% of the alloy was degraded within 14 weeks after the surgery. There were no significant differences in serum magnesium, liver or kidney function tests, or myocardial enzymes be- fore the surgery and after degradation of the magnesium-zinc alloy. Histology of the heart, liver, kidney, and spleen did not change. | 5 | Interactions between life expectancy and the incidence and mortality rates of cancer in China: a population-based cluster analysis显示文摘Background:The relationship between cancer and life expectancy is well established in both developed and developing countries.China is a vast country with significant geographical differences in population structure and healthcare,and thus provides a unique opportunity to analyze the complex relationship between life expectancy and cancer incidence and mortality rates.Methods:Cancer data were extracted for a total of 255 units(cities or counties)from the 2013 National Central Cancer Registry.Life expectancy data at the unit level were obtained from the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.Linear regression analysis was used to analyze the relationship between life expectancy and crude incidence and mortality rates of cancer.In a separate analysis,life expectancy was rated as low(<76.0 years),middle(76-80 years),or high(>80 years).Results:Overall,the cancer incidence and mortality rates positively correlated with life expectancy in both sexes(R at 0.37 and 0.50,P<0.001).The correlation was significant for the following cancers:lung,colorectal,prostate,blad-der and pancreas,as well as for lymphoma in men(R 0.36-0.58,P<0.001),lung,breast,colorectal,thyroid,uterus,and ovary in women(R 0.18-0.51,P<0.001).We failed to observe an association between upper gastrointestinal cancer and life expectancy.The number of cities/counties with low,middle and high life expectancy levels were 110,101 and 44,respectively.The highest age-standardized cancer incidence rate was observed in areas with a high life expec-tancy level(192.83/100,000).The highest age-standardized mortality rate was in areas with the lowest life expectancy(118.44/100,000).Cancers of the stomach,liver and esophagus are major cancer types in areas with low and middle life expectancy.In contrast,areas with high life expectancy had high incidence and mortality rates of colorectal can-cer,breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men.Conclusions:Longer life expectancy is associated with higher overall cancer incidence and mortality in China.The cancer pattern also varies substantially across areas with different life expectancy levels.Life expectancy levels must be considered when developing strategies to prevent and treat cancers. | Xiuying Gu Rongshou Zheng Changfa Xia Hongmei Zeng Siwei Zhang Xiaonong Zou Zhixun Yang He Li Wanqing Chen | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018,38,1: | 12 |

| 9 | Site-Dependent Osseointegration of Biodegradable High-Purity Magnesium for Orthopedic Implants in Femoral Shaft and Femoral Condyle of New Zealand Rabbits显示文摘Magnesium(Mg) has been widely accepted as osteoconductive biomaterial, but osseointegration of Mg device at different implantation sites is still unclear. In the present study, high-purity magnesium(HP Mg)pins were implanted into femoral shaft and condyle of New Zealand rabbits concurrently. 2, 8, 12 and 16 weeks after surgery, rabbit femurs were harvested for micro-computed tomography(micro-CT) scanning and subsequent histological examinations. HP Mg pins were retrieved for scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive spectrum(SEM/EDS) analyses. HP Mg pins at both implantation sites performed stable corrosion with mineral deposition and bone incorporation on surface. However, difference in distribution of contact osteogenesis centers and biological properties of peri-implant bone tissues was detected between femoral shaft and femoral condyle. In femoral condyle, contact osteogenesis centers originated from both periosteum and cancellous bones and the whole HP Mg pin was encapsuled in trabecular bone at 16 weeks.Meanwhile, bone volume to total bone volume(BV/TV) and bone mineral density(BMD) of peri-implant bone tissues were above those of normal bone tissues. In femoral shaft, contact osteogenesis centers were only from periosteum and direct bone contact was confined in cortical bone, while BV/TV and BMD kept lower than normal. Furthermore, new formation of peri-implant bone tissues was more active in femoral condyle than in femoral shaft at 16 weeks. Therefore, although HP Mg performed good biocompatibility and corrosion behavior in vivo, its bioadaption of osseointegration at different implantations sites should be taken into consideration. | 10 | Controlled release of hydrogen by implantation of magnesium induces P53-mediated tumor cells apoptosis显示文摘Hydrogen has been used to suppress tumor growth with considerable efficacy.Inhalation of hydrogen gas and oral ingestion of hydrogen-rich saline are two common systemic routes of hydrogen administration.We have developed a topical delivery method of hydrogen at targeted sites through the degradation of magnesium-based biomaterials.However,the underlying mechanism of hydrogen’s role in cancer treatment remains ambiguous.Here,we investigate the mechanism of tumor cell apoptosis triggered by the hydrogen released from magnesium-based biomaterials.We find that the localized release of hydrogen increases the expression level of P53 tumor suppressor proteins,as demonstrated by the in vitro RNA sequencing and protein expression analysis.Then,the P53 proteins disrupt the membrane potential of mitochondria,activate autophagy,suppress the reactive oxygen species in cancer cells,and finally result in tumor suppression.The anti-tumor efficacy of magnesium-based biomaterials is further validated in vivo by inserting magnesium wire into the subcutaneous tumor in a mouse.We also discovered that the minimal hydrogen concentration from magnesium wires to trigger substantial tumor apoptosis is 91.2μL/mm^(3)per day,which is much lower than that required for hydrogen inhalation.Taken together,these findings reveal the release of H2 from magnesium-based biomaterial exerts its anti-tumoral activity by activating the P53-mediated lysosome-mitochondria apoptosis signaling pathway,which strengthens the therapeutic potential of this biomaterial as localized anti-tumor treatment. | Rui Zan Hao Wang Weijie Cai Jiahua Ni Berengere J.C.Luthringer-Feyerabend Wenhui Wang Hongzhou Peng Weiping Ji Jun Yan Jiazeng Xia Yang Song Xiaonong Zhang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,3: | 3 |
| 11 | Research of a novel biodegradable surgical staple made of high purity magnesium显示文摘Surgical staples made of pure titanium and titanium alloys are widely used in gastrointestinal anastomosis.However the Ti staple cannot be absorbed in human body and produce artifacts on computed tomography(CT)and other imaging examination,and cause the risk of incorrect diagnosis.The bioabsorbable staple made from polymers that can degrade in human body environment,is an alternative.In the present study,biodegradable high purity magnesium staples were developed for gastric anastomosis.U-shape staples with two different interior angles,namely original 90and modified 100,were designed.Finite element analysis(FEA)showed that the residual stress concentrated on the arc part when the original staple was closed to B-shape,while it concentrated on the feet for the modified staple after closure.The in vitro tests indicated that the arc part of the original staple ruptured firstly after 7 days immersion,whereas the modified one kept intact,demonstrating residual stress greatly affected the corrosion behavior of the HP-Mg staples.The in vivo implantation showed good biocompatibility of the modified Mg staples,without inflammatory reaction 9 weeks post-operation.The Mg staples kept good closure to the Anastomosis,no leaking and bleeding were found,and the staples exhibited no fracture or severe corrosion cracks during the degradation. | Hongliu Wu Changli Zhao Jiahua Ni Shaoxiang Zhang Jingyi Liu Jun Yan Yigang Chen Xiaonong Zhang | 2016 | Bioactive Materials2016,1,2: | 3 |

| 15 | Increased osteoblast adhesion on nanophase Ti6Al4V显示文摘The objective of the present study was to prepare a novel nanostructured surface of Ti6Al4V alloy by the severe plastic deformation (SPD) and the chemical treatment process and to evaluate the adhesion of osteoblast on the nanophase titanium alloy. In the in vitro study, the primary cultured osteoblasts of neonatal rat calvaria were cultured on the nanophase and the as-received smooth Ti6Al4V substrates. Then osteoblasts adhesion behaviors on different substrates were observed by the fluorescence mi-croscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and RT-PCR analysis. The results of our research showed increased osteoblast adhesion on the nanophase titanium alloy compared with the as-received case. On the nanophase substrate, the presence of extensive filopodia, strong cellular adhesion and early cellular confluency could be observed. In addition, the expression of the adhesion-related integrin β1 mRNA was also higher on the nanophase substrate. | 16 | Comparative Study about Degradation of High-purity Magnesium Screw in Intact Femoral Intracondyle and in Fixation of Femoral Intracondylar Fracture显示文摘Bone screws encounter complex mechanical environment in fracture fixation of weight-bearing bone.In the present study, high-purity magnesium(HP Mg) screws were applied in fixation of rabbit femoral intracondylar fracture with 3 mm gap. In the control group, HP Mg screws of the same design were implanted at corresponding position of contralateral leg. At 4, 8 and 16 weeks after surgery, retrieved femurs went through micro-computed tomography(micro-CT) scanning and hard tissue processing. Under mechanical stress involved in fracture fixation, bending of screw bolt was observed at the portion exposed to facture gap at 4 weeks. Then local corrosion at the same portion was detected 16 weeks after surgery,which indicated the accumulation effect of mechanical stress on Mg corrosion. HP Mg screws in the fracture group had no significant difference with the control group in screw volume, surface area, surfaceto-volume ratio(S/V). And peri-implant bone volume/tissues volume(BV/TV) and bone volume density(BMD) in the fracture group was comparable to that in the control group. Furthermore, histological analysis showed new formed bone tissues in fracture gap and fracture healing 16 weeks after surgery. | 17 | Study of Cell Behaviors on Anodized TiO_2 Nanotube Arrays with Coexisting Multi-Size Diameters显示文摘It has been revealed that the different morphologies of anodized TiO_2 nanotubes, especially nanotube diameters, triggered different cell behaviors. However, the influence of TiO_2 nanotubes with coexisting multi-size diameters on cell behaviors is seldom reported. In this work, coexisting four-diameter TiO_2 nanotube samples, namely,one single substrate with the integration of four different nanotube diameters(60, 150, 250, and 350 nm), were prepared by repeated anodization. The boundaries between two different diameter regions show well-organized structure without obvious difference in height. The adhesion behaviors of MC3T3-E1 cells on the coexisting fourdiameter TiO_2 nanotube arrays were investigated. The results exhibit a significant difference of cell density between smaller diameters(60 and 150 nm) and larger diameters(250 and 350 nm) within 24 h incubation with the coexistence of different diameters, which is totally different from that on the single-diameter TiO_2 nanotube arrays. The coexistence of four different diameters does not change greatly the cell morphologies compared with the singlediameter nanotubes.
