1Occurrence and Fate of Antibiotics in the Aqueous Environment and Their Removal by Constructed Wetlands in China: A review显示文摘Overuse of antibiotics has become a serious ecological problem worldwide.There is growing concern that antibiotics are losing their effectiveness due to an increased antibiotic resistance in bacteria.During the last twenty years,consumption of antibiotics has increased rapidly in China,which has been cited as one of the world's worst abusers of antibiotics.This review summarizes the current state of antibiotic contamination in China's three major rivers(the Yangtze River,Yellow River,and Pearl River) and illustrates the occurrence and fate of antibiotics in conventional municipal wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs).The analytical data indicate that traditional WWTPs cannot completely remove these concerned pharmaceuticals,as seen in the large difference between the distribution coefficient(K_d) and the uneven removal efficiency of various types of antibiotics.Although constructed wetlands(CWs)offer a potential way to remove these antibiotics from water supplies,knowledge of their mechanisms is limited.There are four main factors affecting the performance of CWs used for the treatment of antibiotics in water supplies,the types and configurations of CWs,hydraulic load rates,substrates,and plants and microorganisms.Further researches focusing on these factors are needed to improve the removal efficiency of antibiotics in CWs.GUAN Yidong WANG Bo GAO Yongxia LIU Wen ZHAO Xiaoli HUANG Xiaofeng YU Jianghuai 2017Pedosphere2017,27,1:22
2Radix Astragali-induced differentiation of rat bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells显示文摘BACKGROUND:Chemical induction has been shown to be effective at promoting the differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs).However,these inductors have cytotoxicity side effects that may damage cells over time.Traditional Chinese medicines avoid this disadvantage while still producing effective induction. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the influence of Radix Astragali(Huangqi) on the differentiation of MSCs. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:In vitro study of traditional Chinese medicine in neural stem cell differentiation.The experiment was performed at the Central Laboratory of Hebei North University between April and June 2007. MATERIALS:Radix Astragali solution(lot No.060105;license No.Z53021585) was purchased from Dali Pharmaceutical Co.,Ltd.,China;rabbit anti-rat nestin,rabbit anti-rat neuron-specific enolase (NSE),mouse anti-rat microtubule-associated protein 2,and rabbit anti-rat glial fibrillary acidic protein were purchased from Wuhan Boster,China. METHODS:Whole bone marrow was isolated from the femur and tibia of 6-week-old male Wistar rats and subcultured.The fourth passage of MSCs were harvested and induced by different concentrations(50,100,200,400 g/L) of Radix Astragali. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to observe MSC morphology after 24 hours of induction.Immunocytochemistry was employed to observe the expression of NSE (specific neuronal marker),nestin(marker of neural stem cell),glial fibrillary acidic protein and microtubule-associated protein 2(markers of astrocytes). RESULTS:Following Radix Astragalitreatment,changes occurred in cell morphology including:cell body pyknosis;thin and long processes formed in some cells,with growth corresponding to drug concentration and induction time;and the formation of network-like connections between some cells. With increasing drug concentration and induction time,nestin expression was upregulated,and the number of positive cells increased;cells produced NSE,glial fibrillary acidic protein and microtubule-associated protein 2;nestin was expressed earlier than glial fibrillary acidic protein and microtubule-associated protein 2 expression.In addition,the number of NSE-positive cells was increased significantly more than glial fibrillary acidic protein-positive cells. CONCLUSION:Radix Astragali promoted process formation in stem cells.It may induce the differentiation of MSCs into neural stem cells,and subsequently into neuronal-and glial-like cells. 4Water quality criteria research and progress显示文摘Water quality criteria (WQC) are threshold limits for pollutants or other hazard factors in the ambient water environment, which are based on scientific experiments and extrapolations. Until now, there is limited information available regarding the study of water quality criteria in China. It is imperative to launch national-level systematic WQC studies that focus on the regional characteristics of China and provide scientific support for the enactment or revision of water quality standards and environmental management. This article reviews the concept of WQC and discusses the methodology and global progress of WQC research. The article also summarizes the key scientific issues in WQC research, including species sensitivity distribution, toxicological endpoint selection, and models selection. Furthermore, we can adopt the derivation method used in the USA and divide WQC into acute and chronic criteria. 5Urban expansion in China and its effect on cultivated land before and after initiating'Reform and Open Policy'显示文摘Urbanization in China has expanded at an unprecedented speed since the declaration of 'Reform and Open Policy'and presented many challenges. Unbalanced regional development, appearance of super megacities and concomitant problems,and conflicts between urbanization and cultivated land protection are three critical problems that Chinese urbanization has to face. To develop new plans for foreseeable future urbanization in China, it is critical to understand the evolving history of cities across China. This study maps urban expansion of 60 typical Chinese cities based on large amount of remote sensing data and the labor-intensive image interpretation method, in order to understand the history of urban expansion from the 1970 s to 2013.Results showed that area of cities expanded 5.23 times compared to their area in the 1970 s. Urban expansion in China accelerated three times(1988–1996, 1999–2006, and 2009–2011) and decelerated three times(1997–1998, 2007–2008, and 2012–2013) over the 40 years. The urban area of South China expanded most significantly 9.42 times, while the urban area in Northeast China expanded only 2.37 times. The disparity among different administrative ranks of cities was even greater than(3.81 times) the differences among different regions. Super megacities have been continuously expanding at a fast rate(8.60-fold), and have not shown obvious signs of slowing down. The proportion of cultivated land among the land sources for urban expansion decreased to a small extent in the 1990 s, but cultivated land continues to be the major land source for urban expansion. 6The enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP显示文摘In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP. eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density, gravity and magnetism. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. 7Spatial and temporal variations of coastlines in northern China (2000-2012)显示文摘This study examined the spatial distribution of the continent coastline in northern China using remote sensing and GIS techniques,and calculated the fractal dimension of the coastline by box-counting method,with a time span from 2000 to 2012.Moreover,we analyzed the characteristics of spatial-temporal changes in the coastline's length and fractal dimension,the relationship between the length change and fractal dimension change,and the driving forces of coastline changes in northern China.During the research period,the coastline of the study area increased by 637.95 km,at a rate of 53.16 km per year.On the regional level,the most significant change in coastline length was observed in Tianjin and Hebei.Temporally,the northern China coastline grew faster after 2008.The most dramatic growth was found between 2010 and 2011,with an increasing rate of 2.49% per year.The fractal dimension of the coastline in northern China was increasing during the research period,and the most dramatic increase occurred in Bohai Rim.There is a strong-positive linear relationship between the historical coastline length and fractal dimension(the correlation coefficient was 0.9962).Through statistical analysis of a large number of local coastline changes,it can be found that the increase(or decrease) of local coastline length will,in most cases,lead to the increase(or decrease) of the whole coastline fractal dimension.Civil-coastal engineering construction was the most important factor driving the coastline change in northern China.Port construction,fisheries facilities and salt factories were the top three construction activities.Compared to human activities,the influence of natural processes such as estuarine deposit and erosion were relatively small.XU Jinyong ZHANG Zengxiang ZHAO Xiaoli WEN Qingke ZUO Lijun WANG Xiao YI Ling 2014Journal of Geographical Sciences2014,24,1:10
8TNF-α suppresses sweat gland differentiation of MSCs by reducing FTO-mediated m^6 A-demethylation of Nanog mRNA显示文摘An effect of inhibition of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)on differentiation of mesenchymal stromal cells(MSCs)has been demonstrated,but the exact mechanisms that govern MSCs differentiation remain to be further elucidated.Here,we show that TNF-αinhibits the differentiation of MSCs to sweat glands in a specific sweat gland-inducing environment,accompanied with reduced expression of Nanog,a core pluripotency factor.We elucidated that fat mass and obesity-associated protein(FTO)-mediated m^6 A demethylation is involved in the regulation of MSCs differentiation potential.Exposure of MSCs to TNF-αreduced expression of FTO,which demethylated Nanog m RNA.Reduced expression of FTO increased Nanog m RNA methylation,decreased Nanog m RNA and protein expression,and significantly inhibited MSCs capacity for differentiation to sweat gland cells.Our finding is the first to elucidate the functional importance of m^6 A modification in MSCs,providing new insights that the microenvironment can regulate the multipotency of MSCs at the post-transcriptional level.Moreover,to maintain differentiation capacity of MSCs by regulating m^6 A modification suggested a novel potential therapeutic target for stem cellmediated regenerative medicine.Yihui Wang Rui Wang Bin Yao Tian Hu Zhao Li Yufan Liu Xiaoli Cui Liuhanghang Cheng Wei Song Sha Huang Xiaobing Fu 2020Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,1:9
9A NAC transcription factor, NOR-like1, is a new positive regulator of tomato fruit ripening显示文摘Ripening of the model fruit tomato(Solanum lycopersicum)is controlled by a transcription factor network including NAC(NAM,ATAF1/2,and CUC2)domain proteins such as No-ripening(NOR),SlNAC1,and SlNAC4,but very little is known about the NAC targets or how they regulate ripening.Here,we conducted a systematic search of fruit-expressed NAC genes and showed that silencing NOR-like1(Solyc07g063420)using virus-induced gene silencing(VIGS)inhibited specific aspects of ripening.Ripening initiation was delayed by 14 days when NOR-like1 function was inactivated by CRISPR/Cas9 and fruits showed obviously reduced ethylene production,retarded softening and chlorophyll loss,and reduced lycopene accumulation.RNA-sequencing profiling and gene promoter analysis suggested that genes involved in ethylene biosynthesis(SlACS2,SlACS4),color formation(SlGgpps2,SlSGR1),and cell wall metabolism(SlPG2a,SlPL,SlCEL2,and SlEXP1)are direct targets of NOR-like1.Electrophoretic mobility shift assays(EMSA),chromatin immunoprecipitation-quantitative PCR(ChIP-qPCR),and dual-luciferase reporter assay(DLR)confirmed that NOR-like1 bound to the promoters of these genes both in vitro and in vivo,and activated their expression.Our findings demonstrate that NOR-like1 is a new positive regulator of tomato fruit ripening,with an important role in the transcriptional regulatory network.Ying Gao Wei Wei Xiaodan Zhao Xiaoli Tan Zhongqi Fan Yiping Zhang Yuan Jing Lanhuan Meng Benzhong Zhu Hongliang Zhu Jianye Chen Cai-Zhong Jiang Donald Grierson Yunbo Luo Da-Qi Fu 2018Horticulture Research2018,5,1:9
10Characterization of refuse landfill leachates of three different stages in landfill stabilization process显示文摘Landfill leachates with different ages(mature leachate,11 years;semi-mature leachate,5 years;fresh leachate,under operation) were collected from Laogang Refuse Landfill,Shanghai to characterize the colloid size distribution and variations of leachate.These leachates were separated using micro-filtration and ultra-filtration into specific size fractions,i.e.,suspended particles(SP)(>1.2μm) ,coarse colloids(CC)(1.2-0.45μm) ,fine colloids(FC)(0.45μm,5 kDa/1 kDa molecular weight(MW) ) ,and dissolved organic matters(DM,<5 kDa/1 kDa MW) .The specific colloids in each size fraction were quantified and characterized through chemical oxygen demands(COD) ,total solid(TS) ,pH,NH4+-N,total organic carbon(TOC) and fixed solid(FS) .It was found that COD,NH4+-N and TS in leachate decreased significantly over ages,while pH increased.The dissolved fractions(<5 kDa/1 kDa) dominated(over 50%) in three leachates in terms of COD,and the organic matter content in dissolved fraction of leachates decreased and the inorganic matter increased as the disposal time extended,with the TOC/COD ratio 30%-7%.Dissolved fractions decreased from 82%to 40%in terms of TOC as the disposal time extended,suggested that the organic matter remained in leachate would form into middle molecular weight substances during the degradation process.LOU Ziyang DONG Bin CHAI Xiaoli SONG Yu ZHAO Youcai ZHU Nanwen 2009Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,9:9
11Designing of highly selective and high-temperature endurable RWGS heterogeneous catalysts: recent advances and the future directions显示文摘Reverse water gas shift(RWGS) reaction can be served as a pivotal stage of transitioning the abundant CO_2 resource into chemicals or hydrocarbon fuels, which is attractive for the CO_2 utilization and of eventually significance in enabling a rebuilt ecological system for unconventional fuels. This concept is appealing when the process is considered as a solution for the storage of renewable energy, which may also find a variety of potential end uses for the outer space exploration. However, a big challenge to this issue is the rational design of high temperature endurable RWGS catalysts with desirable CO product selectivity. In this work, we present a comprehensive overview of recent publications on this research topic,mainly focusing on the catalytic performance of RWGS reaction over three major kinds of heterogeneous catalysts, including supported metal catalysts, mixed oxide catalysts and transition metal carbides. The reaction thermodynamic analysis, kinetics and mechanisms are also described in detail. 12Housing characteristics and indoor environment in relation to children's asthma, allergic diseases and pneumonia in Urumqi, China显示文摘In order to evaluate the prevalence of childhood asthma,allergic diseases and pneumonia in Urumqi City,China,as well as its associations with housing and home characteristics,a cross-sectional study was performed in 4618 children(81.7%response rate,average age 4.7±0.9 year,boys accounting for 53.7%).Questions on children’s asthma and allergic diseases were from the International Study on Asthma and Allergies in Childhood(ISAAC)and were integrated with questions on the home environment from the Dampness in Buildings and Health(DBH)study,slightly modified to account for Chinese building characteristics and life habits.The prevalences of physician diagnosed asthma,allergic rhinitis(AR)and pneumonia were 3.6%,8.7%and 40.9%,respectively.One fourth of children reported wheezing and more than 40%AR symptoms in the last 12 months.Controlling for confounding factors,positive associations were found for home mold/dampness and wheezing(adjusted odds ratio,aOR 1.33,95%CI 1.07 1.66),AR symptoms(1.34,1.09 1.64)last 12 months and physician diagnosed pneumonia(1.33,1.09 1.62).Floor material by wood,PVC or carpeting;and walls by wallpaper,painting or wood material,were positively associated with AR symptoms.Home environmental tobacco smoke(ETS)was positively associated with wheezing(1.23,1.04 1.46)and pneumonia(1.25,1.07 1.45).In conclusion,there was a relatively high prevalence of asthmatic and AR symptoms and diagnosed pneumonia in preschool children in Urumqi.Home signs of mold growth or dampness,windowpane condensation,as well as ETS and interior surface materials emitting chemicals were risk factors for allergic symptoms and pneumonia.WANG TingTing ZHAO ZhuoHui YAO Hua WANG ShuLan NORBACK Dan CHEN Jie MA JinFeng JI XiaoLi WANG Li SUNDELL Jan 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,34:9
13Crustal S-wave velocity structure across the northeastern South China Sea continental margin: implications for lithology and mantle exhumation显示文摘The northeastern margin of the South China Sea (SCS), developed from continental rifting and breakup, is usually thought of as a non-volcanic margin. However, post-spreading volcanism is massive and lower crustal high-velocity anomalies are widespread, which complicate the nature of the margin here. To better understand crustal seismic velocities, lithology, and geophysical properties, we present an S-wave velocity (VS) model and a VP/VS model for the northeastern margin by using an existing P-wave velocity (VP) model as the starting model for 2-D kinematic S-wave forward ray tracing. The Mesozoic sedimentary sequence has lower VP/VS ratios than the Cenozoic sequence;in between is a main interface of P-S conversion. Two isolated high-velocity zones (HVZ) are found in the lower crust of the continental slope, showing S-wave velocities of 4.0–4.2 km/s and VP/VS ratios of 1.73–1.78. These values indicate a mafic composition, most likely of amphibolite facies. Also, a VP/VS versus VP plot indicates a magnesium-rich gabbro facies from post-spreading mantle melting at temperatures higher than normal. A third high-velocity zone (VP : 7.0–7.8 km/s;VP/VS: 1.85–1.96), 70-km wide and 4-km thick in the continent-ocean transition zone, is most likely to be a consequence of serpentinization of upwelled upper mantle. Seismic velocity structures and also gravity anomalies indicate that mantle upwelling/ serpentinization could be the most severe in the northeasternmost continent-ocean boundary of the SCS. 14Spatial Differences of Coastal Urban Expansion in China from 1970s to 2013显示文摘As the ′economic engines′ of China,coastal cities have developed and expanded considerably since the 1970 s.In this study,information on the urban expansion process of Chinese coastal cities from the 1970 s to 2013 was retrieved.Through the analysis of stage characteristics,spatial expansion modes,influences on land use,centroid shifts,and spatial morphological evolutions,the spatial differences of coastal urban expansion were revealed.Results indicate that 1) the expansion stages of southern coastal cities are more complex than those of northern coastal cities,and the expansion ranges and speeds of the former are far higher than those of the latter;2) the spatial expansion of southern coastal cities mostly adopt a single mode,whereas northern coastal cities mostly adopt a mixed mode;3) significant spatial differences in the occupations of different land sources exist between the south and the north along the coastline;4) the centroid of coastal cities tends to migrate toward the coastline,and the centroid shift distances of southern coastal cities are clearly higher than those of northern coastal cities;and 5) the spatial morphology of southern coastal cities tends to be compact,whereas that of northern coastal cities tends to be loose.Policies have a powerful significance in terms of guiding urban expansion and its spatial differences in coastal cities.Urban expansion in coastal cities will encounter new opportunities and challenges under the guidance of new types of urbanization strategies.SHI Lifeng LIU Fang ZHANG Zengxiang ZHAO Xiaoli LIU Bin XU Jinyong WEN Qingke YI Ling HU Shunguang 2015Chinese Geographical Science2015,25,4:7
15Effect of Cooling Rate and Vanadium Content on the Microstructure and Hardness of Medium Carbon Forging Steel显示文摘This paper reports the effect of cooling rate on the microstructure and hardness of a kind of medium carbon steel microalloyed with two levels of V content(0.15%and 0.28%)after hot deformation by using single compression tests on a Gleeble-3800 thermal simulator.The results show that cooling rate has a significant effect on the microstructure and hardness of the tested steels.Both the fraction of pearlite and hardness increase with increasing cooling rate,whereas a further increase of the cooling rate above a critical value promotes the formation of acicular ferrite(AF),and thus leads to a decrease of hardness mainly owing to the decrease of pearlite fraction and replacing it by AF and the less effective precipitation strengthening.Increasing V content results in a significant increase of hardness,and this tendency enhances with increasing cooling rate until the formation of AF.Furthermore,increasing V content also significantly enhances the formation of AF structure at a lower cooling rate.The results also suggest that by controlling microstructure,especially the precipitation of fine V(C,N)particles through adjusting postforging cooling,the strengthening and gradient function in one hot-forging part could be obtained.Weijun Hui Yongjian Zhang Chengwei Shao Silian Chen Xiaoli Zhao Han Dong 2016Journal of Materials Science & Technology2016,32,6:7
16Health risk assessment of dietary exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in Taiyuan, China显示文摘Sixteen polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) were determined in 24 duplicate-diet samples from people in Taiyuan during summer and winter in 2009. Dietary intake of PAHs for 2862 participants was subsequently estimated by a survey in Taiyuan. Results from these 24 samples were compared with a raw food study in Taiyuan in 2008. Three main sources of dietary PAHs are vegetables, wheat flour and fruits, the sum of which contributes 75.95% of PAHs in dietary food. Compared to the estimated value in raw food, much more B[a]Peq(benzo[a]pyrene equivalents) were detected in food samples collected in the duplicate-diet study in Taiyuan(60.75 ng/day). 17Water Splitting:From Electrode to Green Energy System显示文摘Hydrogen(H2)production is a latent feasibility of renewable clean energy.The industrial H2 production is obtained from reforming of natural gas,which consumes a large amount of nonrenewable energy and simultaneously produces greenhouse gas carbon dioxide.Electrochemical water splitting is a promising approach for the H2 production,which is sustainable and pollution-free.Therefore,developing efficient and economic technologies for electrochemical water splitting has been an important goal for researchers around the world.The utilization of green energy systems to reduce overall energy consumption is more important for H2 production.Harvesting and converting energy from the environment by different green energy systems for water splitting can efficiently decrease the external power consumption.A variety of green energy systems for efficient producing H2,such as two-electrode electrolysis of water,water splitting driven by photoelectrode devices,solar cells,thermoelectric devices,triboelectric nanogenerator,pyroelectric device or electrochemical water-gas shift device,have been developed recently.In this review,some notable progress made in the different green energy cells for water splitting is discussed in detail.We hoped this review can guide people to pay more attention to the development of green energy system to generate pollution-free H2 energy,which will realize the whole process of H2 production with low cost,pollution-free and energy sustainability conversion.Xiao Li Lili Zhao Jiayuan Yu Xiaoyan Liu Xiaoli Zhang Hong Liu Weijia Zhou 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,10:6
18A draft sequence of the rice (Oryza sativa ssp. indica) genome显示文摘The sequence of the rice genome holds fundamental information for its biology, including physiology, genetics, development, and evolution, as well as information on many beneficial phenotypes of economic significance. Using a 'whole genome shotgun' approach, we have pro-duced a draft rice genome sequence of Oryza sativa ssp. in-dica, the major crop rice subspecies in China and many other regions of Asia. The draft genome sequence is constructed from over 4.3 million successful sequencing traces with an accumulative total length of 2214.9 Mb. The initial assembly of the non-redundant sequences reached 409.76 Mb in length, based on 3.30 million successful sequencing traces with a total length of 1797.4 Mb from an indica variant cultivar 93-11, giving an estimated coverage of 95.29% of the rice genome with an average base accuracy of higher than 99%. 20Sedimentary record of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in Lake Erhai,Southwest China显示文摘The temporal distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) was investigated in a sediment core from Lake Erhai in Southwest China using gas-chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) method.The total organic carbon (TOC) normalized total PAHs concentrations (sum of US Environmental Protection Agency proposed 16 priority PAHs) ranged from 31.9 to 269 μg/g dry weight (dw),and were characterized by a slowly increasing stage in the deeper sediments and a sharp increasing stage in the upper sediments.The PAHs in the sediments were dominated by low molecular weight (LMW) PAHs,suggesting that the primary source of PAHs was low-and moderate temperature combustion processes.However,both the significant increase in high molecular weight (HMW) PAHs in the upper sediments and the vertical profile of diagnostic ratios pointed out a change in the sources of PAHs from low-temperature combustion to high-temperature combustion.The ecotoxicological assessment based on consensus-based sediment quality guidelines implied that potential adverse biological impacts were possible for benzo(ghi)perylenelene and most LMW PAHs.In addition,the total BaP equivalent quotient of seven carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (BaA,CHr,BbF,BkF,BaP,DBA and INP) was 106.1 ng/g,according to the toxic equivalency factors.Although there was no great biological impact associated with the HMW PAHs,great attention should be paid to these PAH components based on their rapid increase in the upper sediments.Jianyang Guo Zhang Liang Haiqing Liao Zhi Tang Xiaoli Zhao Fengchang Wu 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,8:6
