1Hypoplastic constitutive modelling of the wetting induced creep of rockfill materials显示文摘Discrete element simulations of one-dimensional compression of breakable granular assemblies were performed to investigate the capability of the exponential compression equation suggested by Bauer.The relationship between the so-called solid hardness and the particle strength was studied so as to provide a physical background for the introduction of a time-dependent solid hardness.A hyperbolic flow rule,describing the relationship between the inclination of the strain path and the stress ratio during wetting,was proposed based on typical triaxial wetting experiments on two different rockfill materials.The flow rule was then extended and incorporated into the transformed stress based hypoplastic model to capture the direction of creep strains.Meanwhile,a new density factor was introduced to the extended model to take into account the dependence of the magnitude of creep strains on the packing density.The stiffness tensor given by the extended model was discussed and the flowchart for the integration of the constitutive equation was designed.The extended model was then embedded into a finite element program and used to simulate the triaxial compression and wetting experiments performed on the aforementioned rockfill materials.Good agreement between the model predictions and the measured results lends sufficient credibility to the extended model in reproducing the stress-stain behaviour under loading and the creep behaviour during wetting.The extended model and the finite element program were also used to investigate the deformation behaviour of an earth-rock dam at the end of construction and during first impounding.The familiar phenomena such as the wetting induced settlement of the upstream shell and the movement of the dam crest towards the upstream were successfully captured by the numerical model,which confirms the feasibility of applying the extended model to dam engineering in the future.FU ZhongZhi CHEN ShengShui LIU SiHong 2012Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,7:6
2Study on cosmogenic activation in germanium detectors for future tonne-scale CDEX experiment显示文摘A study on cosmogenic activation in germanium was carried out to evaluate the cosmogenic background level of natural and ^(70)Ge depleted germanium detectors. The production rates of long-lived radionuclides were calculated with Geant4 and CRY.Results were validated by comparing the simulated and experimental spectra of CDEX-1B detector. Based on the validated codes, the cosmogenic background level was predicted for further tonne-scale CDEX experiment. The suppression of cosmogenic background level could be achieved by underground germanium crystal growth and high-purity germanium detector fabrication to reach the sensitivity requirement for direct detection of dark matter. 3Hypoplastic constitutive modeling of wetting deformation of weathered rockfill materials显示文摘The wetting deformation of weathered rockfill materials has been attracting growing attention from both engineers and scientists.The importance of realistic predictions of wetting deformations for high earth and rockfill dams is a strong motivation to establish a suitable constitutive model.Recently,the hypoplastic constitutive model by Gudehus and Bauer was extended by introducing solid hardness depending on the state of weathering.The extended model takes into account the influence of the current density,the effective stress state,the rate of deformation,and the time dependent process of degradation of the solid hardness.In the present paper,the performance of this model is evaluated by comparing numerical simulations with experiments obtained from a water sensitive rockfill material.In particular,triaxial compression paths and creep deformation under deviatoric stress states are considered.Finally,the constitutive model proposed is used to study the influence of a degradation of the solid hardness on the long term behavior of a hypothetical fill dam.Erich BAUER Zhongzhi FU Sihong LIU 2010Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2010,4,1:5
4Influence of pressure and density on the rheological properties of rockfills显示文摘Long-term deformations of rockfill dams can be related to the type of dam,the pre-compaction achieved during the construction of the dam,the history of loading events,the rheological properties of the rockfill material used,the seepage behavior caused by defects of the sealing,the interactions of the dam building with the foundation,and the hydrothermal phenomena of the stressed rockfill material.The present paper investigates the theological propcrtics of coarse grained rockfill materials using a hypoplastic constitutive model.Particular attention is paid to wetting deformation under different deviatoric loading states and pre-compactions.To quantify the state of weathering a so-called“solid hardness”is used in the sense of a continuum description.It is shown that an appropriate modeling of wetting deformations requires a unified description of the interaction at least between the state of weathering,the stress state,the density and the rate of deformation.The results obtained from the numerical simulations are compared with available experimental data for a rockfill material used in Xiaolangdi earth dam.Erich BAUER Zhongzhi FU Sihong LIU 2012Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2012,6,1:4
5First experimental constraints on WIMP couplings in the effective field theory framework from CDEX显示文摘We present weakly interacting massive particles(WIMPs) search results performed using two approaches of effective field theory from the China Dark Matter Experiment(CDEX), based on the data from both CDEX-1B and CDEX-10 stages. In the nonrelativistic effective field theory approach, both time-integrated and annual modulation analyses were used to set new limits for the coupling of WIMP-nucleon effective operators at 90% confidence level(C.L.) and improve over the current bounds in the low mχregion. In the chiral effective field theory approach, data from CDEX-10 were used to set an upper limit on WIMP-pion coupling at 90% C.L. 6Reversible folding/unfolding of small α-helix in explicit solvent investigated by ABEEMσπ/MM显示文摘We have performed molecular dynamics simulations on the reversible folding/unfolding of small α-helix(short Ala based peptide Ala5) in explicit water solvent in terms of ABEEMσπ/MM.A dynamics analysis shows that the α-helical turn can be preserved up to a period of about 2 ns at 300 K,which supports the conclusions of Margulis et al.The time trajectory of the root mean square deviation between the heavy atoms of the backbone and the helical reference structure indicate that 'helix melting and formation occurs rapidly on a time scale of 0.1 ns at 300 K' is not a felicitous conclusion.We first quantificationally concluded that the helix nucleation can maintain 2 ns,1―1.5 ns and 0.8 ns for Ala5 at 300 K,400 K and 500 K,respectively.Furthermore,increasing temperature dose not alter the pathway of folding/unfolding,but change the rate.An analysis of structures in a 'transition-state ensemble' shows that helix-to-coil transitions occurs predominantly through breaking of hydrogen bonds at the helix ends(92%),particularly at the C-terminus(50%).Hydrogen bonds' breaking and formation occurs on a time scale of 0.1 ns.LIU Cui & YANG ZhongZhi Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Faculty,Liaoning Normal University,Dalian 116029,China 2009Science China Chemistry2009,52,11:3
7QM/MM(ABEEM) Study on the Ligand Substitution Processes of Ruthenium(Ill) Complex NAMI-A显示文摘QM combined with ABEEMσπ (atom-bond electronegativity equalization method) fluctuating charge polariza-ble tbrce field [QM/MM(ABEEM)] has been employed to investigate the hydrolysis mechanism of ruthenium(liDcomplex NAMI-A. Eleven possible hydrolysis paths of NAMI-A and its hydrolysates have been unveiled. Struc-tures obtained by QM/MM (ABEEM) method were used to calculate the activation free energy by free energy per-turbation theory. Based on analysis of structures and activation free energies, it is found that the rate of DMSO dis-sociation is faster than that of C1- dissociation in the first step, which is in agreement with experimental results. Hy-drolysates of the first step continue to hydrolyze with lower activation free energies than that of the first hydrolysisstep, but the trans-position CI hydrolysis in the second step needs more time to perform. This can account for ex-perimental phenomenon reasonably. 8Discrete element simulations of two wetting effects on granular materials显示文摘To explore the microscopic responses of granular materials to wetting,the inter-particle lubrication effect and particle breakage in an odometer were simulated using a two-dimensional discrete element method.The lubrication effect was modeled by reduction of the inter-particle friction coefficient and particle breakage was initiated by decreasing the particle strength.Once the strength of the particles decreased to a threshold value,the particles began to break so that new contacts could be established to transfer the external loads.Numerical simulations successfully reproduced the additional compaction of the material and the intensification of the horizontal stress in addition to the microscopic responses of the granular assemblies.The microscopic interpretation of the earth pressure coefficient at rest and the evolution of the grain number distribution during particle breaking were also investigated.FU ZhongZhi LIU SiHong LI Zhuo 2011Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,35:2
