1ZmMs30 Encoding a Novel GDSL Lipase Is Essential for Male Fertility and Valuable for Hybrid Breeding in Maize显示文摘Genic male sterility (GMS) is very useful for hybrid vigor utilization and hybrid seed production. Although a large number of GMS genes have been identified in plants, little is known about the roles of GDSL lipase members in anther and pollen development. Here, we report a maize GMS gene, ZmMs30, which encodes a novel type of GDSL lipase with diverged catalytic residues. Enzyme kinetics and activity assays show that ZmMs30 has lipase activity and prefers to substrates with a short carbon chain. ZmMs30 is specifically expressed in maize anthers during stages 7-9. Loss of ZmMs30 function resulted in defective anther cuticle, irregular foot layer of pollen exine, and complete male sterility. Cytological and lipidomics analyses demonstrate that ZmMs30 is crucial for the aliphatic metabolic pathway required for pollen exine formation and anther cuticle development. Furthermore, we found that male sterility caused by loss of ZmMs30 function was stable in various inbred lines with different genetic background, and that it didn't show any negative effect on maize heterosis and production, suggesting that ZmMs30 is valuable for crossbreeding and hybrid seed production. We then developed a new multi-control sterility system using ZmMs30 and its mutant line, and demonstrated it is feasible for generating desirable GMS lines and valu. able for hybrid maize seed production. 2^(137)Cs tracing of lacustrine sediments in the Dalian Lake,Qinghai Province,China显示文摘Based upon the analysis of Cs and grain-size parameters, the total amounts of 137Cs deposition by wind and water in the Dalian Lake of Gonghe Basin, Qinghai Province are defined. The vertical profile of 137Cs in the lacustrine sediments exhibits three 137Cs activity maxima and one minimum. The major maximum corresponds to the global I37Cs fallout in 1963; the two secondary maxima correspond to the leakage of the Chernobyl reactor in 1986 and complete desiccation of the lake in 1994, respectively. The minimum corresponds to aeolian deposition caused by extensive reclamation in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The 137Cs data set was used to evaluate average sedimentation rate of the Dalian Lake since 1963. The deposition was stable in 1963-1986 and 1994-1998, and it was rapid during 1986?994. 3Physiological evaluation of nitrogen use efficiency of different apple cultivars under various nitrogen and water supply conditions显示文摘Nitrogen(N) deficiency is a common problem for apple(Malus×domestica) production in arid regions of China.However,N utilization efficiency(NUE) of different apple cultivars grown under low N conditions in arid regions has not been evaluated.In this study,NUE was assessed for one-year-old seedlings of six apple cultivars,Golden Delicious,Qinguan,Jonagold,Honeycrisp,Fuji and Pink Lady,grafted onto Malus hupehensis Rehd.rootstocks.Four treatments were used,including control water with control N(CWCN),limited water with control N(LWCN),control water with low N(CWLN) and limited water with low N(LWLN).Our results showed that growth indices such as biomass,plant height and stem diameter,and photosynthetic rate of all cultivars decreased in the order CWCN>CWLN>LWCN>LWLN.When subjected to LWLN treatment,Qinguan showed better growth and photosynthetic characters than other tested cultivars.Additionally,Qinguan and Pink Lady had higher NUE,while Honeycrisp and Jonagold had lower NUE,based on the determination of biomass,photosynthetic parameters,chlorophyll content,the maximal photochemical efficiency of PSII(Fv/Fm),15 N and N contents.WANG Qian LIU Chang-hai HUANG Dong DONG Qing-long LI Peng-min Steve van NOCKER MA Feng-wang 2020Journal of Integrative Agriculture2020,19,3:3

7Recent advances on study of hadrosaurid dinosaurs in Heilongjiang(Amur) River area between China and Russia显示文摘Four main dinosaur-bearing sites have been investigated in latest Cretaceous deposits from the Amur/Heilongjiang Region: Jiayin and Wulaga in China (Yuliangze Formation) ,Blagoveschensk and Kundur in Rus- sia (Udurchukan Formation) . More than 90% of the bones discovered in these localities belong to hollowcrested lambeosaurine hadrosaurids: Charonosaurus jiayinensis at Jiayin,Amurosaurus riabinini at Blagoveschensk, Olorotitan arharensis at Kundur,and Sahaliyania elunchunorum at Wulaga. Flat-headed hadrosaurine hadrosau- rids are much less numerous,but appear well diversified as well: Kerberosaurus manakini at Blagoveschensk, Wulagasaurus dongi at Wulaga,and a new genus at Kundur. Theropods are represented by shed teeth and isolated bones; isolated scutes and teeth discovered at Kundur are tentatively attributed to nodosaurids. Palynologi- cal studies suggest that these sites are probably synchronous with the Lancian' vertebrate localities of western North America,which represent the youngest dinosaur faunas in this area. However,the latest Cretaceous dinosaur assemblages are completely different in the Amur/Heilongjiang region (lambeosaurines abundant,ceratopsids absent) and in western North America (ceratopsids abundant,lambeosaurines extremely rare or absent) .
