| 1 | Annual cost of illness of stomach and esophageal cancer patientsin urban and rural areas in China: A multi-center study显示文摘Objective: Stomach and esophageal cancer are imposing huge threats to the health of Chinese people whereas there were few studies on the financial burden of the two cancers.Methods: Costs per hospitalization of all patients with stomach or esophageal cancer discharged between September 2015 and August 2016 in seven cities/counties in China were collected, together with their demographic information and clinical details. Former patients in the same hospitals were sampled to collect information on annual direct non-medical cost, indirect costs and annual number of hospitalization. Annual direct medical cost was obtained by multiplying cost per hospitalization by annual number of hospitalization. Annual cost of illness(ACI)was obtained by adding the average value of annual direct medical cost, direct non-medical cost and indirect cost,stratified by sex, age, clinical stage, therapy and pathologic type in urban and rural areas. Costs per hospitalization were itemized into eight parts to calculate the proportion of each part. All costs were converted to 2016 US dollars(1 USD=6.6423 RMB).Results: Totally 19,986 cases were included, predominately male. Mean ages of stomach cancer and urban patients were lower than that of esophageal cancer and rural patients. ACI of stomach and esophageal cancer patients were $10,449 and $13,029 in urban areas, and $2,927 and $3,504 in rural areas, respectively. Greater ACI was associated with male, non-elderly patients as well as those who were in stage I and underwent surgeries.Western medicine fee took the largest proportion of cost per hospitalization.Conclusions: The ACI of stomach and esophageal cancer was tremendous and varied substantially among the population in China. | 2 | Medical expenditures for colorectal cancer diagnosis and treatment: A 10-year high-level-hospital-based multicenter retrospective survey in China, 2002-2011显示文摘Objective: Colorectal cancer(CRC) causes a substantial burden of disease in China and the evidence of economic burden triggered is fundamental for priority setting. The aim of this survey was to quantify medical expenditures and the time trends for CRC diagnosis and treatment in China.Methods: From 2012 to 2014, a hospital-based multicenter retrospective survey was conducted in 13 provinces across China. For each eligible CRC patient diagnosed from 2002 to 2011, clinical information and expenditure data were extracted using a uniform questionnaire. All expenditure data were reported in Chinese Yuan(CNY)using 2011 values.Results: Of the 14,536 CRC patients included, the average age at diagnosis was 58.2 years and 15.8% were stageI cases. The average medical expenditure per patient was estimated at 37,902 CNY [95 % confidence interval(95%CI): 37,282-38,522], and the annual average increase rate was 9.2% from 2002 to 2011(P for trend <0.001), with a cumulative increase of 2.4 times(from 23,275 CNY to 56,010 CNY). The expenditure per patient in stages Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ were 31,698 CNY, 37,067 CNY, 38,918 CNY and 42,614 CNY, respectively(P<0.001). Expenditure significantly differed within various subgroups. Expenses for drugs contributed the largest proportion(52.6%).Conclusions: These conservative estimates illustrated that medical expenditures for CRC diagnosis and treatment in tertiary hospitals in China were substantial and increased rapidly over the 10 years, with drugs continually being the main expense by 2011. Relatively, medical expenditures are lower for CRC in the earlier stages. | 3 | Characterization and corrosion property of nano-rod-like HA on fluoride coating supported on Mg-Zn-Ca alloy×显示文摘The poor corrosion resistance of biodegradable magnesium alloys is the dominant factor that limits theirclinical application. In this study, to deal with this challenge, fluoride coating was prepared on MgeZneCa alloy as the inner coating and then hydroxyapatite (HA) coating as the outer coating was depositedon fluoride coating by pulse reverse current electrodeposition (PRC-HA/MgF2). As a comparative study,the microstructure and corrosion properties of the composite coating with the outer coating fabricatedby traditional constant current electrodeposition (TED-HA/MgF2) were also investigated. Scanningelectron microscopy (SEM) images of the coatings show that the morphology of PRC-HA/MgF2 coating isdense and uniform, and presents nano-rod-like structure. Compared with that of TED-HA/MgF2, thecorrosion current density of Mg alloy coated with PRC-HA/MgF2 coatings decreases from 5.72× 10^-5 A/cm2 to 4.32× 10^-7 A/cm^2, and the corrosion resistance increases by almost two orders of magnitude. Inimmersion tests, samples coated with PRC-HA/MgF2 coating always show the lowest hydrogen evolutionamount, and could induce deposition of the hexagonal structure-apatite on the surface rapidly. | 8 | Solitary beam propagation in periodic layered Kerr media enables high-efficiency pulse compression and mode self-cleaning显示文摘Generating intense ultrashort pulses with high-quality spatial modes is crucial for ultrafast and strong-field science and can be achieved by nonlinear supercontinuum generation(SCG)and pulse compression.In this work,we propose that the generation of quasi-stationary solitons in periodic layered Kerr media can greatly enhance the nonlinear lightmatter interaction and fundamentally improve the performance of SCG and pulse compression in condensed media.With both experimental and theoretical studies,we successfully identify these solitary modes and reveal their unified condition for stability.Space-time coupling is shown to strongly influence the stability of solitons,leading to variations in the spectral,spatial and temporal profiles of femtosecond pulses.Taking advantage of the unique characteristics of these solitary modes,we first demonstrate single-stage SCG and the compression of femtosecond pulses from 170 to 22 fs with an efficiency>85%.The high spatiotemporal quality of the compressed pulses is further confirmed by highharmonic generation.We also provide evidence of efficient mode self-cleaning,which suggests rich spatiotemporal self-organization of the laser beams in a nonlinear resonator This work offers a route towards highly efficient,simple,stable and highly flexible SCG and pulse compression solutions for state-of-the-art ytterbium laser technology. | Sheng Zhang Zongyuan Fu Bingbing Zhu Guangyu Fan Yudong Chen Shunjia Wang Yaxin Liu Andrius Baltuska Cheng Jin Chuanshan Tian Zhensheng Tao | 2021 | Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,4: | 3 |

| 14 | Recent advances in RNA structurome显示文摘RNA structures are essential to support RNA functions and regulation in various biological processes. Recently, a range of novel technologies have been developed to decode genome-wide RNA structures and novel modes of functionality across a wide range of species. In this review, we summarize key strategies for probing the RNA structurome and discuss the pros and cons of representative technologies. In particular, these new technologies have been applied to dissect the structural landscape of the SARS-CoV-2 RNA genome. We also summarize the functionalities of RNA structures discovered in different regulatory layers-including RNA processing, transport, localization, and mRNA translation-across viruses, bacteria, animals, and plants. We review many versatile RNA structural elements in the context of different physiological and pathological processes(e.g., cell differentiation, stress response, and viral replication). | 16 | A loss-of-function mutant allele of a glycosyl hydrolase gene has been co-opted for seed weight control during soybean domestication显示文摘The resultant DNA from loss-of-function mutation can be recruited in biological evolution and development.Here,we present such a rare and potential case of“to gain by loss”as a neomorphic mutation during soybean domestication for increasing seed weight.Using a population derived from a chromosome segment substitution line of Glycine max(SN14)and Glycine soja(ZYD06),a quantitative trait locus(QTL)of 100-seed weight(q HSW)was mapped on chromosome 11,corresponding to a truncatedβ-1,3-glucosidase(βGlu)gene.The novel gene hsw results from a 14-bp deletion,causing a frameshift mutation and a premature stop codon in theβGlu.In contrast to HSW,the hsw completely lostβGlu activity and function but acquired a novel function to promote cell expansion,thus increasing seed weight.Overexpressing hsw instead of HSW produced large soybean seeds,and surprisingly,truncating hsw via gene editing further increased the seed size.We further found that the core 21-aa peptide of hsw and its variants acted as a promoter of seed size.Transcriptomic variation in these transgenic soybean lines substantiated the integration hsw into cell and seed size control.Moreover,the hsw allele underwent selection and expansion during soybean domestication and improvement.Our work cloned a likely domesticated QTL controlling soybean seed weight,revealed a novel genetic variation and mechanism in soybean domestication,and provided new insight into crop domestication and breeding,and plant evolution. | Siming Wei Bin Yong Hongwei Jiang Zhenghong An Yan Wang Bingbing Li Ce Yang Weiwei Zhu Qingshan Chen Chaoying He | 2023 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2023,65,11: | 1 |

| 20 | Visualizing Material Processing via Photoexcitation-ControlledOrganic-Phase Aggregation-Induced Emission显示文摘Aggregation-induced emission(AIE)has been much employed for visualizing material aggregation and self-assembly.However,water is generally required for the preparation of the AIE aggregates,the operation of which limits numerous material processing behaviors.Employing hexathiobenzene-based small molecules,monopolymers,and block copolymers as different material prototypes,we herein achieve AIE in pure organic phases by applying a nonequilibrium strategy,photoexcitationcontrolled aggregation.This strategy enabled a dynamic change of molecular conformation rather than chemical structure upon irradiation,leading to a continuous aggregation-dependent luminescent enhancement(up to~200-fold increase of the luminescent quantum yield)in organic solvents.Accompanied by the materialization of the nonequilibrium strategy,photoconvertible self-assemblies with a steady-state characteristic can be achieved upon organic solvent processing.The visual monitoring with the luminescence change covered the whole solution-to-film transition,as well as the in situ photoprocessing of the solid-state materials. | Jian Gu Bingbing Yue Glib V.Baryshnikov Zhongyu Li Man Zhang Shen Shen HansÅgren Liangliang Zhu | 2021 | Research2021,,1: | 1 |
