| 1 | Insight-HXMT observations of the first binary neutron star merger GW170817显示文摘Finding the electromagnetic(EM) counterpart of binary compact star merger, especially the binary neutron star(BNS) merger,is critically important for gravitational wave(GW) astronomy, cosmology and fundamental physics. On Aug. 17, 2017,Advanced LIGO and Fermi/GBM independently triggered the first BNS merger, GW170817, and its high energy EM counterpart,GRB 170817 A, respectively, resulting in a global observation campaign covering gamma-ray, X-ray, UV, optical, IR, radio as well as neutrinos. The High Energy X-ray telescope(HE) onboard Insight-HXMT(Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope) is the unique high-energy gamma-ray telescope that monitored the entire GW localization area and especially the optical counterpart(SSS17 a/AT2017 gfo) with very large collection area(~1000 cm^2) and microsecond time resolution in 0.2-5 MeV. In addition,Insight-HXMT quickly implemented a Target of Opportunity(ToO) observation to scan the GW localization area for potential X-ray emission from the GW source. Although Insight-HXMT did not detect any significant high energy(0.2-5 MeV) radiation from GW170817, its observation helped to confirm the unexpected weak and soft nature of GRB 170817 A. Meanwhile,Insight-HXMT/HE provides one of the most stringent constraints(~10^(-7) to 10^(-6) erg/cm^2/s) for both GRB170817 A and any other possible precursor or extended emissions in 0.2-5 MeV, which help us to better understand the properties of EM radiation from this BNS merger. | 2 | Performance and mechanism of Cr(Ⅵ)removal by zero-valent iron loaded onto expanded graphite显示文摘Zero-valent iron(ZⅥ) was loaded on expanded graphite(EG) to produce a composite material(EG-ZⅥ) for efficient removal of hexavalent chromium(Cr(Ⅵ)). EG and EG-ZⅥ were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier-transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET) analysis. EG-ZⅥ had a high specific surface area and contained sub-micron sized particles of zero-valent iron. Batch experiments were employed to evaluate the Cr(Ⅵ) removal performance. The results showed that the Cr(Ⅵ) removal rate was 98.80% for EG-ZⅥ,which was higher than that for both EG(10.00%) and ZⅥ(29.80%). Furthermore, the removal rate of Cr(Ⅵ) by EG-ZⅥ showed little dependence on solution p H within a p H range of 1–9.Even at pH 11, a Cr(Ⅵ) removal rate of 62.44% was obtained after reaction for 1 hr. EG-ZⅥ could enhance the removal of Cr(Ⅵ) via chemical reduction and physical adsorption,respectively. | 3 | The Medium Energy X-ray telescope (ME) onboard the Insight-HXMT astronomy satellite显示文摘The Medium Energy X-ray telescope(ME) is one of the three main telescopes on board the Insight hard X-ray modulation telescope(Insight-HXMT) astronomy satellite. ME contains 1728 pixels of Si-PIN detectors sensitive in 5-30 ke V with a total geometrical area of 952 cm^2. The application specific integrated circuit(ASIC) chip, VA32TA6, is used to achieve low power consumption and low readout noise. The collimators define three kinds of field of views(FOVs) for the telescope, 1°×4°, 4°×4°,and blocked ones. Combination of such FOVs can be used to estimate the in-orbit X-ray and particle background components.The energy resolution of ME is ~3 ke V at 17.8 ke V(FWHM) and the time resolution is 255 μs. | 7 | Origin area and migration route: Chloroplast DNA diversity in the arctic-alpine plant Koenigia islandica显示文摘The Hengduan Mountains(henceforth H-D Mountains) on the Tibet Plateau are a distribution and diversity center for many alpine genera. We examine patterns of genetic variation in an arctic-alpine plant to evaluate the possibility that the H-D Mountains constitute the area of origin of the species as well as to uncover postglacial migration routes. 220 individuals of the arctic-alpine plant Koenigia islandica were sampled from 26 populations distributed in western China and northern Finland. DNA haplotypes were identified using restriction site analysis of two chloroplast DNA intergene spacer regions, atpB-rbcL and trnL-trnF. We examined the geographical distribution of haplotype diversity in relation to latitude, and also compared various indices of diversity in putatively glaciated and unglaciated regions. Patterns of migration were inferred using nested clade analysis. A total of 25 haplotypes were detected. High haplotype diversity was found in the H-D Mountains. H3 and its radiated haplotypes were distributed in the Himalayas. Two haplotypes were fixed concurrently in the H-D Mountains and northern Finland. High genetic diversity of K. islandica and high species diversity of K. islandica are expected in the origin area. Our observations suggest that the H-D Mountains are not only the place of origin of K. islandica, but also the refugia for K. islandica on the Tibet Plateau. | 9 | Characterization of Rebound Depolarization in Neurons of the Rat Medial Geniculate Body In Vitro显示文摘Rebound depolarization(RD) is a response to the offset from hyperpolarization of the neuronal membrane potential and is an important mechanism for the synaptic processing of inhibitory signals. In the present study, we characterized RD in neurons of the rat medial geniculate body(MGB), a nucleus of the auditory thalamus, using whole-cell patch-clamp and brain slices. | 10 | Comparative study on in vitro transformation of paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) toxins in different shellfish tissues显示文摘Dissected tissues of three shellfish species,the Chinese scallop,Chlamys farreri,Manila clam,Ruditapes philippinarum,and Razor shell,Solen strictu were evaluated for in vitro transformation of paralytic shellfish poisoning(PSP) toxins. Tissue homogenates were incubated with extraction from toxic algae Alexandrium minutum to determine toxin conversion. The effects of heating and addition of a natural reductant(glutathione) on toxin conversion were also assessed. The toxin profile was investigated through high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection(HPLC-FLD) . The evident variations in the toxin content were observed only in Chinese scallop viscera homogenates. The concentration of GTX4 was reduced by 45%(approximately 0.8 μmol/dm 3 ) and 25%(approximately 1 μmol/dm 3 ) for GTX1,while GTX2 and GTX3 increased by six times(approximately 1 μmol/dm 3 ) and 3 times(approximately 0.3 μmol/dm 3 ) respectively. Simultaneously,the total toxicity decreased by 38% during the 48 h incubation period,the final toxicity was 20.4 nmol STXeq/g. Furthermore,heated Chinese scallop viscera homogenates samples were compared with non-heated samples. The concentration of the GTX4 and GTX1 was clearly 28%(approximately 0.53 μmol/dm 3 ) and 17%(approximately 0.69 μmol/dm 3 ) higher in heated samples,GTX2 and GTX3 were four times(0.66 μmol/dm 3 ) and two times(0.187 μmol/dm 3 ) lower respectively. GSH(+) Chinese scallop viscera homogenates samples were compared with GSH(-) samples,the concentration in the GTX4 and GTX1 was 9%(approximately 0.12 μmol/dm 3 ) and 11%(approximately 0.36 μmol/dm 3 ) lower respectively,GTX2 and GTX3 was 17%(approximately 0.14 μmol/dm 3 ) and 19%(approximately 0.006 μmol/dm 3 ) higher respectively. In contrast,there was a little change in the concentration of PSP toxins of Manila clam and Razor shell tissue homogenates. These observations on three shellfish tissues confirmed that there were species-specific differences in PSP toxins transformation. PSP toxins transformation was more pronounced in viscera tissue than in muscle tissue. | 11 | Nanostructured Catalysts toward Efficient Propane Dehydrogenation显示文摘CONSPECTUS:Propylene serves as one of the most significant compounds in the chemical industry.Propane dehydrogenation(PDH),an“on purpose”propylene production technology is developing.Pt-and CrOx-based catalysts are widely applied in commercialized PDH processes,and both exhibit high activity and propylene yields.However,as an intensively endothermic process,PDH requires operation at high temperatures(generally above 500°C),which restricts the C3H6 selectivity and catalyst structure stability on account of coking side reactions,particle sintering,and so forth.Nanostructured catalysts(NCs)based on metals and/or metal oxides with tunable geometric and electronic properties play significant roles because such features intrinsically influence the adsorption of propyl intermediates on the catalyst surface.However,thermodynamical metastability of these NCs results in grand challenges in their structure-controlled preparation.The regulation of material structure and reaction performance at the molecular and atomic levels has attracted extended attention over the past few years.This Account describes our recent advances in controllable regulation of metal and oxide NCs toward efficient propane dehydrogenation.As a structure-insensitive reaction,the dehydrogenation of propane can occur on an individual active site,while larger ensembles of active sites also induce structure-sensitive side reactions,leading to C−C cracking and coke deposition.This paper is aimed at delivering general fundamentals for rational design of NCs in PDH reactions.We start with the catalytic kinetics on the active sites regarding the adsorption of key propyl intermediates on the surface.In subsequent sections,we present the effective regulation strategies for metal and oxide NCs by promoter and support effects.Upon metal NCs,coke deposition and nanoparticles(NPs)sintering tend to occur,which can be suppressed with the increase of geometric separation and charge density of surface active sites by changing alloy compositions,ordered intermetallic alloys,single-atom catalysts,core−shell,and metal−oxide interface structures.Notably,the confinement approach of embedding active sites in zeolite frameworks significantly inhibits the sintering of metal NPs.As alternatives to metals,metal oxides exhibit lower cost but higher barriers of C−H activation and coking inclination.The C−H bond cleavage has been promoted by inducing intrinsic defect sites,such as oxygen vacancies,hydroxyls,and hydrides on the surface and heterogeneous doping in the bulk.Importantly,the structures of the submonolayer/monolayer triggered by spontaneous dispersion and confinement in mesoporous materials significantly improve the oxide activity and stability.All of these strategies have been essential for the efficient PDH reactions.Moreover,the challenges and perspectives are also discussed.It is hoped that the deliberate manipulation of nanostructured catalysts to regulate the reaction mechanism will hold the key to efficient alkane conversion. | Sai Chen Chunlei Pei Guodong Sun Zhi-Jian Zhao Jinlong Gong | 2020 | Accounts of Materials Research2020,1,1: | 1 |
| 12 | Phytoplankton pigment pattern in the subsurface chlorophyll maximum in the South Java coastal upwelling system, Indonesia显示文摘Upwelling occurs on the coast of Java between June and October, forced by local alongshore winds associated with the southeasterly monsoon. This causes variations in phytoplankton community composition in the upwelling zone compared with the surrounding offshore area. Based on pigments analysis with subsequent calculations of group contributions to total chlorophyll a(Chl a) using CHEMTAX, we studied the distribution and composition of phytoplankton assemblages in the subsurface chlorophyll maximum along the south coast of Java and the influence of upwelling. Nineteen phytoplankton pigments were identified using high-performance liquid chromatography, and CHEMTAX analysis associated these to ten major phytoplankton groups. The phytoplankton community in the coastal area influenced by upwelling was characterized by high Chl a and fucoxanthin concentrations, indicating the dominance of diatoms. In contrast, in the offshore area, the Chl a and fucoxanthin concentrations declined to very low levels and the community was dominated by haptophytes represented by 19′-Hexanoyloxyfucoxanthin. Accordingly, microphytoplankton was found to be the major size class in the coastal area influenced by upwelling, while nanophytoplankton was most abundant in the offshore area. Low concentrations of other accessory pigments indicated less contribution from dinoflagellates,prasinophytes, chlorophytes and cryptophytes. Photo-pigment indices revealed that photosynthetic carotenoids(PSCs) were the largest component of the pigment pool, exceeding the proportion of Chl a, with the average PSCTP up to 0.62. | 16 | Effect of Reaction-Finished Solution of Hydrochar(HRFS)Application on Rice Grain Yield and Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Saline Soil显示文摘We conducted a pot experiment to examine the feasibility of applying a reaction-finished solution of hydrochar(HRFS)to enhance rice production in a saline soil.With this purpose,HRFS was applied(0,10,20,40,60,80 and 100 mL/pot)and rice yield and nitrogen(N)use efficiency(NUE)were determined.HRFS application significantly(P<0.05)increased rice grain yield by 19.6%-30.0%compared to the control treatment(CKU,with N but without HRFS addition).Moreover,HRFS application promoted plant height and straw biomass of rice.Increases of rice yield were mainly achieved by increases in the number of panicles and grains per panicle.Compared with the CKU treatment,the NUE of HRFS amendments significantly(P<0.05)increased by 56.3%-71.7%.This indicated that the improvement of NUE was one of the mechanisms to improve rice grain yield with HRFS amendment.The results of regression analysis showed that there was a positive relationship(R^(2)=0.8332)between rice yield and HRFS application rate within an appropriate range.The highest rice yield was recorded with the HRFS application of 40 mL/pot,but a further increase in HRFS application rate appeared to reduce rice yield.Based on the results of this pot study,HRFS application can increase rice yield in a saline soil by regulating its yield components and enhancing NUE.However,impact of HRFS on these variables showed a“dose effect”. | Zhenghua Yi Paramsothy Jeyakumar Jiang Jiang Xiaomian Zhang Chunlei Yue Haijun Sun | 2022 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2022,91,4: | 1 |

| 19 | Chemical looping oxidative propane dehydrogenation controlled by oxygen bulk diffusion over FeVO_(4)oxygen carrier pellets显示文摘The oxygen distribution and evolution within the oxygen carrier exert significant influence on chemical looping processes.This paper describes the influence of oxygen bulk diffusion within FeVO4 oxygen carrier pellets on the chemical looping oxidative propane dehydrogenation(CL-ODH).During CL-ODH,the oxygen concentration at the pellet surface initially decreased and then maintained stable before the final decrease.At the stage with the stable surface oxygen concentration,the reaction showed a stable C3H6 formation rate and high C3H6 selectivity.Therefore,based on Fick’s second law,the oxygen distribution and evolution in the oxygen carrier at this stage were further analyzed.It was found that main reactions of selective oxidation and over-oxidation were controlled by the oxygen bulk diffusion.C3H8 conversion rate kept decreasing during this stage due to the decrease of the oxygen flux caused by the decline of oxygen gradient within the oxygen carrier,while C3H6 selectivity increased due to the decrease of overoxidation.In addition,reaction rates could increase with the propane partial pressure due to the increase of the oxygen gradient within the oxygen carrier until the bulk transfer reached its limit at higher propane partial pressure.This study provides fundamental insights for the diffusion-controlled chemical looping reactions. | Hongbo Song Wei Wang Jiachen Sun Xianhui Wang Xianhua Zhang Sai Chen Chunlei Pei Zhi-Jian Zhao | 2023 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2023,53,1: | 1 |
