3Efficacy of adjuvant XELOX and FOLFOX6 chemotherapy after D2 dissection for gastric cancer显示文摘AIM: To compare the efficacy of capecitabine and oxaliplatin (XELOX) with 5-fluorouracil, folinic acid and oxaliplatin (FOLFOX6) in gastric cancer patients after D2 dissection. METHODS: Between May 2004 and June 2010, patients in our gastric cancer database who underwent D2 dissection for gastric cancer at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 896 patients were enrolled into this study according to the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Of these patients, 214 received the XELOX regimen, 48 received FOLFOX6 therapy and 634 patients underwent surgery only without chemotherapy. Overall survival was compared among the three groups using Cox regression and propensity score matchedpair analyses. RESULTS: Patients in the XELOX and FOLFOX6 groups were younger at the time of treatment (median age 55.2 years; 51.2 years vs 58.9 years), had more undifferentiated tumors (70.1%; 70.8% vs 61.4%), and more lymph node metastases (80.8%; 83.3% vs 57.7%), respectively. Overall 5-year survival was 57.3% in the XELOX group which was higher than that (47.5%) in the surgery only group (P = 0.062) and that (34.5%) in the FOLFOX6 group (P = 0.022). Multivariate analysis showed that XELOX therapy was an independent prognostic factor (hazard ratio = 0.564, P < 0.001). After propensity score adjustment, XELOX significantly increased overall 5-year survival compared to surgery only (58.2% vs 44.2%, P = 0.025) but not compared to FOLFOX6 therapy (48.5% vs 42.7%, P = 0.685). The incidence of grade 3/4 adverse reactions was similar between the XELOX and FOLFOX6 groups, and more patients suffered from hand-foot syndrome in the XELOX group (P = 0.018). 4Management of granulomatous lobular mastitis: an international multidisciplinary consensus(2021 edition)显示文摘Granulomatous lobular mastitis(GLM) is a rare and chronic benign inflammatory disease of the breast. Difficulties exist in the management of GLM for many front-line surgeons and medical specialists who care for patients with inflammatory disorders of the breast. This consensus is summarized to establish evidence-based recommendations for the management of GLM. Literature was reviewed using PubMed from January 1, 1971 to July 31, 2020. Sixty-six international experienced multidisciplinary experts from 11 countries or regions were invited to review the evidence.Levels of evidence were determined using the American College of Physicians grading system, and recommendations were discussed until consensus. Experts discussed and concluded 30 recommendations on historical definitions,etiology and predisposing factors, diagnosis criteria, treatment, clinical stages, relapse and recurrence of GLM. GLM was recommended as a widely accepted definition. In addition, this consensus introduced a new clinical stages and management algorithm for GLM to provide individual treatment strategies. In conclusion, diagnosis of GLM depends on a combination of history, clinical manifestations, imaging examinations, laboratory examinations and pathology.The approach to treatment of GLM should be applied according to the different clinical stage of GLM. 5m^6A-dependent biogenesis of circular RNAs in male germ cells显示文摘The majority of circular RNAs(circRNAs)spliced from coding genes contain open reading frames(ORFs)and thus,have protein coding potential.However,it remains unknown what regulates the biogenesis of these ORF-containing circRNAs,whether they are actually translated into proteins and what functions they play in specific physiological contexts.Here,we report that a large number of circRNAs are synthesized with increasing abundance when late pachytene spermatocytes develop into round and then elongating spermatids during murine spermatogenesis.For a subset of circRNAs,the back splicing appears to occur mostly at m^6A-enriched sites,which are usually located around the start and stop codons in linear mRNAs.Consequently,approximately a half of these male germ cell circRNAs contain large ORFs with m^6A-modified start codons in their junctions,features that have been recently shown to be associated with protein-coding potential.Hundreds of peptides encoded by the junction sequences of these circRNAs were detected using liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry,suggesting that these circRNAs can indeed be translated into proteins in both developing(spermatocytes and spermatids)and mature(spermatozoa)male germ cells.The present study discovered not only a novel role of m^6A in the biogenesis of coding circRNAs,but also a potential mechanism to ensure stable and long-lasting protein production in the absence of linear mRNAs,i.e.,through production of circRNAs containing large ORFs and m^6A-modified start codons in junction sequences.Chong Tang Yeming Xie Tian Yu Na Liu Zhuqing Wang Rebekah J.Woolsey Yunge Tang Xinzong Zhang Weibing Qin Ying Zhang Ge Song Weiwei Zheng Juan Wang Weitian Chen Xiongyi Wei Zhe Xie Rachel Klukovich Huili Zheng David R.Quilici Wei Yan 2020Cell Research2020,30,3:12

8Two-dimensional materials for synaptic electronics and neuromorphic systems显示文摘Synapses in biology provide a variety of functions for the neural system. Artificial synaptic electronics that mimic the biological neuron functions are basic building blocks and developing novel artificial synapses is essential for neuromorphic computation. Inspired by the unique features of biological synapses that the basic connection components of the nervous system and the parallelism, low power consumption, fault tolerance, self-learning and robustness of biological neural systems, artificial synaptic electronics and neuromorphic systems have the potential to overcome the traditional von Neumann bottleneck and create a new paradigm for dealing with complex problems such as pattern recognition, image classification, decision making and associative learning. Nowadays, two-dimensional(2 D) materials have drawn great attention in simulating synaptic dynamic plasticity and neuromorphic computing with their unique properties. Here we describe the basic concepts of bio-synaptic plasticity and learning, the 2 D materials library and its preparation. 10Hierarchical highly ordered SnO_(2) nanobowl branched ZnO nanowires for ultrasensitive and selective hydrogen sulfide gas sensing显示文摘Highly sensitive and selective hydrogen sulfide(H_(2)S)sensors based on hierarchical highly ordered SnO_(2) nanobowl branched ZnO nanowires(NWs)were synthesized via a sequential process combining hard template processing,atomic-layer deposition,and hydrothermal processing.The hierarchical sensing materials were prepared in situ on microelectromechanical systems,which are expected to achieve high-performance gas sensors with superior sensitivity,long-term stability and repeatability,as well as low power consumption.Specifically,the hierarchical nanobowl SnO_(2)@ZnO NW sensor displayed a high sensitivity of 6.24,a fast response and recovery speed(i.e.,14 s and 39 s,respectively),and an excellent selectivity when detecting 1 ppm H_(2)S at 250°C,whose rate of resistance change(i.e.,5.24)is 2.6 times higher than that of the pristine SnO_(2) nanobowl sensor.The improved sensing performance could be attributed to the increased specific surface area,the formation of heterojunctions and homojunctions,as well as the additional reaction between ZnO and H_(2)S,which were confirmed by electrochemical characterization and band alignment analysis.Moreover,the well-structured hierarchical sensors maintained stable performance after a month,suggesting excellent stability and repeatability.In summary,such well-designed hierarchical highly ordered nanobowl SnO_(2)@ZnO NW gas sensors demonstrate favorable potential for enhanced sensitive and selective H_(2)S detection with long-term stability and repeatability.Li-Yuan Zhu Kai-Ping Yuan Jia-He Yang Cheng-Zhou Hang Hong-Ping Ma Xin-Ming Ji Anjana Devi Hong-Liang Lu David Wei Zhang 2020Microsystems & Nanoengineering2020,6,1:7
11Neuroprotectants attenuate hypobaric hypoxia-induced brain injuries in cynomolgus monkeys显示文摘Hypobaric hypoxia (HH) exposure can cause serious brain injury as well as life-threatening cerebral edema in severe cases. Previous studies on the mechanisms of HH-induced brain injury have been conducted primarily using non-primate animal models that are genetically distant to humans, thus hindering the development of disease treatment. Here, we report that cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) exposed to acute HH developed human-like HH syndrome involving severe brain injury and abnormal behavior. Transcriptome profiling of white blood cells and brain tissue from monkeys exposed to increasing altitude revealed the central role of the HIF-1 and other novel signaling pathways, such as the vitamin D receptor (VDR) signaling pathway, in co-regulating HH-induced inflammation processes. We also observed profound transcriptomic alterations in brains after exposure to acute HH, including the activation of angiogenesis and impairment of aerobic respiration and protein folding processes, which likely underlie the pathological effects of HH-induced brain injury. Administration of progesterone (PROG) and steroid neuroprotectant 5α-androst-3β,5,6β-triol (TRIOL) significantly attenuated brain injuries and rescued the transcriptomic changes induced by acute HH. Functional investigation of the affected genes suggested that these two neuroprotectants protect the brain by targeting different pathways, with PROG enhancing erythropoiesis and TRIOL suppressing glutamate-induced excitotoxicity. 13Spectrum projection with a bandgap-gradient perovskite cell for colour perception显示文摘Optoelectronic devices for light or spectral signal detection are desired for use in a wide range of applications,including sensing,imaging,optical communications,and in situ characterization.However,existing photodetectors indicate only light intensities,whereas multiphotosensor spectrometers require at least a chip-level assembly and can generate redundant signals for applications that do not need detailed spectral information.Inspired by human visual and psychological light perceptions,the compression of spectral information into representative intensities and colours may simplify spectrum processing at the device level.Here,we propose a concept of spectrum projection using a bandgap-gradient semiconductor cell for intensity and colour perception.Bandgap-gradient perovskites,prepared by a halide-exchanging method via dipping in a solution,are developed as the photoactive layer of the cell.The fabricated cell produces two output signals:one shows linear responses to both photon energy and flux,while the other depends on only photon flux.Thus,by combining the two signals,the single device can project the monochromatic and broadband spectra into the total photon fluxes and average photon energies(i.e.,intensities and hues),which are in good agreement with those obtained from a commercial photodetector and spectrometer.Under changing illumination in real time,the prepared device can instantaneously provide intensity and hue results.In addition,the flexibility and chemical/bio-sensing of the device via colour comparison are demonstrated.Therefore,this work shows a human visual-like method of spectrum projection and colour perception based on a single device,providing a paradigm for high-efficiency spectrum-processing applications.Mei-Na Zhang Xiaohan Wu Antoine Riaud Xiao-Lin Wang Fengxian Xie Wen-Jun Liu Yongfeng Mei David Wei Zhang Shi-Jin Ding 2020Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1:4

15The expression of Spodoptera exigua P450 and UGT genes: tissue specificity and response to insecticides显示文摘Cytochrome P450 and UDP-glucosyltransferase (UGT) as phase I and phase II metabolism enzymes, respectively, play vital roles in the breakdown of endobiotics and xenobiotics. Insects can in crease the expression of detoxificatio n enzymes to cope with the stress from xenobiotics including insecticides. However, the molecular mechanisms for insecticide detoxification in Spodoptera exigua remain elusive, and the genes conferring insecticide metabolisms in this species are less well reported. In this study, 68 P450 and 32 UGT genes were identified. Phylogenetic analysis showed gene expansions in CYP3 and CYP4 clans of P450 genes and UGT33 family of this pest. P450 and UGT genes exhibited specific tissue expression patterns. Insecticide treatments in fat body cells of S. exigua revealed that the expression levels of P450 and UGT genes were significantly influenced by challenges of abamectin, lambda-cyhalothrin, chlorantraniliprole, metaflumizone and indoxacarb. Multiple genes for detoxification were affected in expression levels after insecticide exposures. The results demonstrated that lambda-cyhalothrin, chlorantraniliprole, metaflumizone and indoxacarb induced similar responses in the expression of P450 and UGT genes in fat body cells;eight P450 genes and four UGT genes were co-up-regulated significantly, and no or only a few CYP/UGT genes were down-regulated significantly by these four insecticides. However, abamectin triggered a distinct response for P450 and UGT gene expression;more P450 and UGT genes were down-regulated by abamectin than by the other four compounds. 16Recognition of two contrasting structural-and mineralogical-gold mineral systems in the Youjiang basin,China-Vietnam:Orogenic gold in the south and Carlin-type in the north显示文摘The gold deposits in the Youjiang basin,totaling>25 Moz gold,have traditionally been thought to be of Carlin-type,particularly those with extensional structural geometries in the northern basin dominated by platform sedimentary sequences.However,the structural geometries,mineralization styles and alteration types for the Jinya,Gaolong and Nakuang gold deposits in the south-central part of the basin are remarkably similar to those of unequivocal orogenic gold deposits.Structural studies show that gold mineralization in the three gold deposits was controlled by tight“locked-up”anticlines with NW−SE-to E−W-trending and/or concomitant thrusts and/or shear zones,which resulted from NE−SW-to N–S-trending compression or transpression following the Early Triassic closure of the Paleo-Tethyan Ocean.Alteration zones in these deposits are dominated by silicification(quartz),sericitization,sulfidation and carbonation.Zoned pyrites in these deposits comprise Au-poor cores and invisible Au-bearing rims with minor external free gold.Euhedral to subhedral auriferous arsenopyrites also contribute to the gold budget.These features indicate that the three gold deposits are sediment-hosted orogenic gold deposits that contrast markedly with the Carlin-type gold deposits in the northern part of the Youjiang basin in terms of structural geometry and timing,mineralization style and nature of associated alteration.Although additional reliable ages using robust methodologies are still required,the older isotopic ages of the gold deposits in the south-central Youjiang basin are also consistent with earlier formation during transpression that predated extension during orogenic collapse,the period of formation of the Carlin-type gold deposits in the northern Youjiang basin.Lin Yang Jun Deng David IGroves Qingfei Wang Liang Zhang Wei Wu Kai Qin Qizuan Zhang 2020Geoscience Frontiers2020,11,5:3
17Self-Healing Liquid Metal Magnetic Hydrogels for Smart Feedback Sensors and High-Performance Electromagnetic Shielding显示文摘Hydrogels exhibit potential applications in smart wearable devices because of their exceptional sensitivity to various external stimuli.However,their applications are limited by challenges in terms of issues in biocompatibility,custom shape,and self-healing.Herein,a conductive,stretchable,adaptable,self-healing,and biocompatible liquid metal GaInSn/Ni-based composite hydrogel is developed by incorporating a magnetic liquid metal into the hydrogel framework through crosslinking polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)with sodium tetraborate.The excellent stretchability and fast self-healing capability of the PVA/liquid metal hydrogel are derived from its abundant hydrogen binding sites and liquid metal fusion.Significantly,owing to the magnetic constituent,the PVA/liquid metal hydrogel can be guided remotely using an external magnetic field to a specific position to repair the broken wires with no need for manual operation.The composite hydrogel also exhibits sensitive deformation responses and can be used as a strain sensor to monitor various body motions.Additionally,the multifunctional hydrogel displays absorption-dominated electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding properties.The total shielding performance of the composite hydrogel increases to~62.5 dB from~31.8 dB of the pure PVA hydrogel at the thickness of 3.0 mm.The proposed bioinspired multifunctional magnetic hydrogel demonstrates substantial application potential in the field of intelligent wearable devices.Biao Zhao Zhongyi Bai Hualiang Lv Zhikai Yan Yiqian Du Xiaoqin Guo Jincang Zhang Limin Wu Jiushuai Deng David Wei Zhang Renchao Che 2023Nano-Micro Letters2023,15,6:3
18Recent Progress on Flexible Room-Temperature Gas Sensors Based on Metal Oxide Semiconductor显示文摘With the rapid development of the Internet of Things,there is a great demand for portable gas sensors.Metal oxide semiconductors(MOS)are one of the most traditional and well-studied gas sensing materials and have been widely used to prepare various commercial gas sensors.However,it is limited by high operating temperature.The current research works are directed towards fabricating high-performance flexible room-temperature(FRT)gas sensors,which are effective in simplifying the structure of MOS-based sensors,reducing power consumption,and expanding the application of portable devices.This article presents the recent research progress of MOS-based FRT gas sensors in terms of sensing mechanism,performance,flexibility characteristics,and applications.This review comprehensively summarizes and discusses five types of MOS-based FRT gas sensors,including pristine MOS,noble metal nanoparticles modified MOS,organic polymers modified MOS,carbon-based materials(carbon nanotubes and graphene derivatives)modified MOS,and two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides materials modified MOS.The effect of light-illuminated to improve gas sensing performance is further discussed.Furthermore,the applications and future perspectives of FRT gas sensors are also discussed.Lang-Xi Ou Meng-Yang Liu Li-Yuan Zhu David Wei Zhang Hong-Liang Lu 2022Nano-Micro Letters2022,14,12:3
19Herpetological phylogeographic analyses support a Miocene focal point of Himalayan uplift and biological diversification显示文摘The Himalaya are among the youngest and highest mountains in the world,but the exact timing of their uplift and origins of their biodiversity are still in debate.The Himalayan region is a relatively small area but with exceptional diversity and endemism.One common hypothesis to explain the rich montane diversity is uplift-driven diversification—that orogeny creates conditions favoring rapid in situ speciation of resident lineages.We test this hypothesis in the Himalayan region using amphibians and reptiles,two environmentally sensitive vertebrate groups.In addition,analysis of diversification of the herpetofauna provides an independent source of information to test competing geological hypotheses of Himalayan orogenesis.We conclude that the origins of the Himalayan herpetofauna date to the early Paleocene,but that diversification of most groups was concentrated in the Miocene.There was an increase in both rates and modes of diversification during the early to middle Miocene,together with regional interchange(dispersal)between the Himalaya and adjacent regions.Our analyses support a recently proposed stepwise geological model of Himalayan uplift beginning in the Paleocene,with a subsequent rapid increase of uplifting during the Miocene,finally giving rise to the intensification of the modern South Asian Monsoon.Wei Xu Wen-Jie Dong Ting-Ting Fu Wei Gao Chen-Qi Lu Fang Yan Yun-He Wu Ke Jiang Jie-Qiong Jin Hong-Man Chen Ya-Ping Zhang David M.Hillis Jing Che 2021National Science Review2021,8,9:3
