| 2 | Early diversification of birds: Evidence from a new opposite bird显示文摘A new enantiornithine bird Longipteryx chao-yangensis gen. et sp. nov. is described from the Early Cretaceous Jiufotang Formation in Chaoyang, western Liaoning Province. This new bird is distinguishable from other known enantiornithines in having uncinate processes in ribs, elongate jaws, relatively long wings and short hindlimbs, and metatarsal Ⅳ longer than metatarsals Ⅱ and Ⅲ. This new bird had probably possessed (i) modern bird-like thorax which provides firm attachment for muscles and indicates powerful and active respiratory ability; (ii) powerful flying ability; (iii) special adaptation for feeding on aquatic preys; and (iv) trochleae of metatarsals Ⅰ-Ⅳ almost on the same level, an adaptation for perching. The new bird represents a new ecological type different from all known members of Enantiornithes. | 3 | Analysis of risk factors for polypoid lesions of gallbladder among health examinees显示文摘AIM: To investigate the prevalence and risk factors of polypoid lesions of gallbladder (PLG) among the health examinees in the Shanghai region, China. METHODS: A total of 11 816 subjects who underwent health examinations in our hospital between August 2010 and February 2011 were analyzed retrospectively. Among them, there were 7174 men and 4642 women. PLG was diagnosed by the real-time ultrasonography. Those with the body mass index (BMI) ≥ 28 were considered to be obese. Blood biochemical indices were detected with the fully automatic biochemical analyzer and hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) was tested by the automated enzyme immunoassay. The correlations between the prevalence of PLG and age, sex, BMI, serum cholesterol (T-Cho), triglycerides (TG),blood sugar, HBsAg, high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), gallstone and fatty liver were investigated. After univariate analysis of 11 variables, stepwise logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the risk factors of PLG. RESULTS: There was a significant difference in sex, T-Cho, HBsAg, HDL-C, LDL-C and fatty liver between the PLG-positive group and the PLG-negative group (332/163 vs 6842/4479, P = 0.003; 22/473 vs 295/11 026, P =0.013; 92/403 vs 993/10 328, P = 0.001; 47/448 vs 332/10 989, P = 0.001; 32/463 vs 381/10 940, P = 0.001; 83/412 vs 3260/8061, P = 0.001). No significant difference was found in the age, BMI, TG, blood sugar and gallstone between the two groups (47.3 ± 26 vs 45.1 ± 33, P = 0.173; 59/436 vs 1097/10 224, P = 0.102; 52/443 vs 982/10 339, P = 0.158; 17/478 vs 295/11 026, P = 0.26; 24/471 vs 395/10 926, P = 0.109). Logistic regression analysis showed that the sex, HBsAg and HDL-C were independent risk factors for the development of PLG in a descending order of HDL-C > HBsAg > sex. | 5 | Precise nanomedicine for intelligent therapy of cancer显示文摘Precise nanomedicine has been extensively explored for efficient cancer imaging and targeted cancer therapy, as evidenced by a few breakthroughs in their preclinical and clinical explorations. Here, we demonstrate the recent advances of intelligent cancer nanomedicine, and discuss the comprehensive understanding of their structure-function relationship for smart and efficient cancer nanomedicine including various imaging and therapeutic applications, as well as nanotoxicity. In particular, a few emerging strategies that have advanced cancer nanomedicine are also highlighted as the emerging focus such as tumor imprisonment, supramolecular chemotherapy, and DNA nanorobot. The challenge and outlook of some scientific and engineering issues are also discussed in future development. | 7 | Zircon SHRIMP U-Pb dating for olivine gabbro at Wangmuguan in the Beihuaiyang zone and its geological significance显示文摘Zircon SHRIMP U-Pb dating was per- formed for olivine gabbro at Wangmuguan in the Beihuaiyang zone of the Dabie orogen and its coun- try rock (garnet-bearing epidote-mica-quartz schist). The results show that the gabbro was crystallized at 635 ± 5 Ma, in the late Neoproterozoic rather than in the late Paleozoic as previously suggested; its coun- try rocks formed at 464±7 Ma, younger than the en- closed gabbro. The U-Pb age for the gabbro is in good agreement with ages for tuff interbedded with sediments from the Doushantuo Formation in the South China Block and late-Neoproterozoic basic dyke swarms distributed on a large scale over areas of Suizhou to Zaoyang of Hubei Province in the northern margin of the South China Block. This sug- gests a large-scale magmatic activity occurred at the late Neoproterozoic in the South China Block, so that the gabbro at Wangmuguan in the western segment of the Beihuaiyang zone is geotectonic affinity to the northern margin of the South China Block. On behalf of the Tumor Biomarker Committee of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology(CSCO) and the China Actionable Genome Consortium(CAGC), the present expert group hereby proposes advisory guidelines on clinical applications of NGS technology for the analysis of cancer driver genes for precision cancer therapy. This group comprises an assembly of laboratory cancer geneticists, clinical oncologists, bioinformaticians,pathologists, and other professionals. After multiple rounds of discussions and revisions, the expert group has reached a preliminary consensus on the need of NGS in clinical diagnosis, its regulation, and compliance standards in clinical sample collection. | 14 | Effect of acupuncture at Neiguan (PC 6) on cardiac function using echocardiography in myocardial ischemia rats induced by isoproterenol显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of acupuncture at Neiguan(PC 6) on cardiac function using echocardiography in rat models of myocardial ischemia(MI) induced by isoproterenol(ISO).METHODS: Twenty-seven Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to normal, model, and acupuncture groups. The model and acupuncture groups were given injections of ISO(85 mg/kg) to establish the MI model. After model establishment,the acupuncture group was treated with acupuncture at Neiguan(PC 6) for 30 min. Echocardiography was used to monitor diastolic and systolic function for 30 min starting from the time after the acupuncture needles were removed. Changes in the length of left ventricular internal diameter at end-diastole(LVIDd), length of left ventricular internal diameter at end-systole(LVIDs), the ratio of mitral peak velocity at early diastole and atrial contraction(E/A), ejection fraction(EF), fractional shortening(FS), and stroke volume(SV) were measured.RESULTS: Compared with the model group at 0and 15 min after needles were removed, the means of LVIDd and LVIDs were significantly lower(P <0.01) and E/A, EF, FS, and SV significantly higher(P < 0.01) in the acupuncture group. In the acupuncture group, the means of LVIDd and LVIDs15 min after the needles were removed were significantly higher(P < 0.01) than those at 0 min. | 15 | Restoration of shoulder abduction by transfer of the spinal accessory nerve to suprascapular nerve through dorsal approach: a clinical study显示文摘Background In recent years, transfer of the spinal accessory nerve to suprascapular nerve has become a routine procedure for restoration of shoulder abduction. However, the operation via the traditional supraclavicular anterior approach often leads to partial denervation of the trapezius muscle. The purpose of the study was to introduce transfer of the spinal accessory nerve through dorsal approach, using distal branch of the spinal accessory nerve, to repair the suprascapular nerve for restoration of shoulder abduction, and to observe its therapeutic effect. Methods From January to October 2003, a total of 11 patients with a brachial plexus injury and an intact or nearly intact spinal accessory nerve were treated by transferring the spinal accessory nerve to the suprascapular nerve through dorsal approach. The patients were followed up for 18 to 26 months [mean (23.5±5.2) months] to evaluate their shoulder abduction and function of the trapezius muscle. The outcomes were compared with those of 26 patients treated with traditional anterior approach. And the data were analyzed by Student’s t test using SPSS 10.5. Results In the 11 patients, the spinal accessory nerves were transferred to the suprascapular nerve through the dorsal approach successfully. Intact function of the upper trapezius was achieved in all of them. In the patients, the location of the two nerves was relatively stable at the level of superior margin of the scapula, the mean distance between them was (4.2±1.4) cm, both the nerves could be easily dissected and end-to-end anastomosed without any tension. During the follow-up, the first electrophysiological sign of recovery of the infraspinatus appeared at (6.8±2.7) months and the first sign of restoration of the shoulder abduction at (7.6±2.9) months after the operation, which were earlier than that after the traditional operation [(8.7±2.4) months and (9.9±2.8) months, respectively; P<0.05]. The postoperative shoulder abduction was 62.8?±12.6? after transfer of the spinal accessory nerve, better than that after the traditional (51.6?±15.7?). All the 11 patients could extend and externally rotate the shoulder almost normally. Conclusions The accessory nerve transfer through dorsal approach is a safe and reliable procedure for the treatment of brachial plexus injury. | 17 | Circular RNA circVAPA promotes chemotherapy drug resistance in gastric cancer progression by regulating miR-125b-5p/STAT3 axis显示文摘BACKGROUND Gastric cancer(GC)is a prevalent malignancy,leading to a high incidence of cancer-associated death.Cisplatin(DDP)-based chemotherapy is the principal therapy for clinical GC treatment,but DDP resistance is a severe clinical challenge and the mechanism remains poorly understood.Circular RNAs(circRNAs)have been identified to play crucial roles in modulating the chemoresistance of gastric cancer cells.AIM To explore the effect of circVAPA on chemotherapy resistance during GC progression.METHODS The effect of circVAPA on GC progression and chemotherapy resistance was analyzed by MTT assay,colony formation assay,Transwell assay,wound healing assay,and flow cytometry analysis in GC cells and DDP resistant GC cell lines,and tumorigenicity analysis in nude mice in vivo.The mechanism was investigated by luciferase reporter assay,quantitative real-time PCR,and Western blot analysis.RESULTS CircVAPA expression was up-regulated in clinical GC tissues compared with normal samples.CircVAPA depletion inhibited proliferation,migration,and invasion and increased apoptosis of GC cells.The expression of circVAPA,STAT3,and STAT3 downstream genes was elevated in DDP resistant SGC7901/DDP cell lines.CircVAPA knockdown attenuated the DDP resistance of GC cells.Mechanically,circVAPA was able to sponge miR-125b-5p,and miR-125b-5p could target STAT3 in the GC cells.MiR-125b-5p inhibitor reversed circVAPA depletion-enhanced inhibitory effect of DDP on GC cells,and STAT3 knockdown blocked circVAPA overexpression-induced proliferation of DDPtreated SGC7901/DDP cells.The depletion of STAT3 and miR-125b-5p inhibitor reversed circVAPA depletion-induced GC cell apoptosis.Functionally,circVAPA contributed to the tumor growth of SGC7901/DDP cells in vivo.CONCLUSION CircVAPA promotes chemotherapy resistance and malignant progression in GC by miR-125b-5p/STAT3 signaling.Our findings present novel insights into the mechanism by which circVAPA regulates chemotherapy resistance of GC cells.CircVAPA and miR-125b-5p may be considered as the potential targets for GC therapy. | Peng Deng Ming Sun Wen-Yan Zhao Bin Hou Kai Li Tao Zhang Feng Gu | 2021 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,6: | 11 |

| 19 | Endovascular treatment with or without intravenous alteplase for acute ischaemic stroke due to basilar artery occlusion显示文摘Background and purpose It remains controversial if endovascular treatment(EVT)can improve the outcome of patients with acute basilar artery occlusion(BAO).This study aims to compare the functional outcomes between EVT with and without intravenous thrombolysis(IVT)first in patients who had acute ischaemic stroke(AIS)due to BAO.Methods Patients who had AIS with BAO who underwent EVT within 24 hours of onset were enrolled in this multicentre cohort study,and the efficacy and safety were compared between IVT+EVT and direct EVT.The primary outcome was 90-day functional independence.All outcomes were assessed with adjusted OR(aOR)from the multivariable logistic regression.In addition,a meta-analysis was performed on all recently published pivotal studies on functional independence after EVT in patients with BAO.Results Of 310 enrolled patients with BAO,241(78%)were treated with direct EVT and 69(22%)with IVT+EVT.Direct EVT was associated with a worse functional outcome(aOR,0.46(95%CI 0.24 to 0.85),p=0.01).IVT+EVT was associated with a lower percentage of patients who needed≥3 passes of stent retriever(10.14%vs 20.75%).The meta-analysis regression revealed a potential positive correlation between bridging with IVT first and functional independence(r=0.14(95%CI 0.05 to 0.24),p<0.01).Conclusions This study showed that compared with direct EVT,EVT with IVT first was associated with better functional outcomes in patients with BAO treated within 24 hours of onset.The meta-analysis demonstrated similar favourable efficacy of IVT first followed by EVT in patients with BAO. | Ximing Nie David Wang Yuehua Pu Yufei Wei Qixuan Lu Hongyi Yan Xin Liu Lina Zheng Jingyi Liu Xinxuan Yang Yarong Ding Dacheng Liu Wanying Duan Zhe Zhang Zhonghua Yang Miao Wen Weibin Gu Xinyi Hou Xinyi Leng Yuesong Pan Zhongrong Miao Liping Liu | 2022 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2022,7,3: | 10 |
| 20 | Screening beneficial bacteriostatic lactic acid bacteria in the intestine and studies of bacteriostatic substances显示文摘Lactic acid bacteria(LAB)are a representative probiotic.As the dominant flora in the human intestinal tract,LAB can regulate the balance of human intestinal flora and improve host health.The purpose of this study was to isolate and screen LAB that are well suited to the intestinal characteristics of the Chinese population,with excellent probiotics and high antibacterial activity.After 16S ribosomal RNA(rRNA)homology and phylogenetic tree analysis,potential probiotics were tested for their antibacterial activity,resistance to artificial gastrointestinal fluid and drugs,surface hydrophobicity,and safety.Three strains of LAB with acid resistance,bile salt resistance,epithelial cell adhesion,and no multidrug resistance were selected:Lactobacillus salivarius,Leuconostoc lactis,and Lactobacillus paracasei.Analysis of the antibacterial active substances in the three strains and their fermentation broths revealed that the main antibacterial substances of L.lactis were organic acids,whereas those of L.salivarius and L.paracasei were organic acids and bacteriocins with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity.These three strains of probiotic LAB with high antibacterial activity were identified as bacterial resources that could potentially be used to develop probiotic preparations for the prevention and treatment of intestinal diseases caused by intestinal pathogens. | Zhijing LIU Cong XU Ran TIAN Wan WANG Jiage MA Liya GU Fei LIU Zhanmei JIANG Juncai HOU | 2021 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2021,22,7: | 10 |
