| 1 | Enhanced methane production in an anaerobic digestion and microbial electrolysis cell coupled system with co-cultivation of Geobacter and Methanosarcina显示文摘The anaerobic digestion(AD)and microbial electrolysis cell(MEC)coupled system has been proved to be a promising process for biomethane production.In this paper,it was found that by co-cultivating Geobacter with Methanosarcina in an AD–MEC coupled system,methane yield was further increased by 24.1%,achieving to 360.2 m L/g-COD,which was comparable to the theoretical methane yield of an anaerobic digester.With the presence of Geobacter,the maximum chemical oxygen demand(COD)removal rate(216.8 mg COD/(L·hr))and current density(304.3 A/m_3)were both increased by 1.3 and 1.8 fold compared to the previous study without Geobacter,resulting in overall energy efficiency reaching up to 74.6%.Community analysis demonstrated that Geobacter and Methanosarcina could coexist together in the biofilm,and the electrochemical activities of both were confirmed by cyclic voltammetry.Our study observed that the carbon dioxide content in total gas generated from the AD reactor with Geobacter was only half of that generated from the same reactor without Geobacter,suggesting that Methanosarcina may obtain the electron transferred from Geobacter for the reduction of carbon dioxide to methane.Taken together,Geobacter not only can improve the performance of the MEC system,but also can enhance methane production. | Qi Yin Xiaoyu Zhu Guoqiang Zhan Tao Bo Yanfei Yang Yong Tao Xiaohong He Daping Li Zhiying Yan | 2016 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,4: | 9 |
| 2 | Development and utilization of a new chemically-induced soybean library with a high mutation density显示文摘Mutagenized populations have provided important materials for introducing variation and identifying gene function in plants. In this study, an ethyl methanesulfonate(EMS)-induced soybean(Glycine max) population,consisting of 21,600 independent M_2 lines, was developed.Over 1,000 M_(4(5))families, with diverse abnormal phenotypes for seed composition, seed shape, plant morphology and maturity that are stably expressed across different environments and generations were identified. Phenotypic analysis of the population led to the identification of a yellow pigmentation mutant, gyl, that displayed significantly decreased chlorophyll(Chl) content and abnormal chloroplast development. Sequence analysis showed that gyl is allelic to Minn Gold, where a different single nucleotide polymorphism variation in the Mg-chelatase subunit gene(ChlI1a) results in golden yellow leaves. A cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence marker was developed and may be applied to marker-assisted selection for the golden yellow phenotype in soybean breeding. | 3 | Progress in green and efficient enrichment of rare earth from leaching liquor of ion adsorption type rare earth ores显示文摘Ion adsorption type rare earth ores(IATREOs)are a valuable strategic mineral resource in China,which feature a complete composition of fifteen rare earth elements and are rich in medium and heavy rare earth(RE)elements.In the leaching process for recovering rare earth elements from IATREOs,many impurities will be leached together with rare earth elements and enter the leaching liquor.An impurity removal-precipitation enrichment technique is currently applied to selectively recovery rare earth elements from the leaching liquor with the high content of impurities and low concentration of rare earth elements by using ammonium bicarbonate in the industry.However,a high loss of rare earth elements and severe ammonia nitrogen pollution are caused by this process.Therefore,more beneficial impurities removal technologies,mainly for aluminum,and green enrichment technologies with lower pollution are now urgently needed.For this purpose,this paper analyzed two aspects of research progress in recent decades:the green separation of rare earth elements and aluminum from leaching liquor and the green and efficient enrichment of rare earth elements.Finally,an approach for the high-efficiency and green enrichment of rare earth elements from leaching liquor of the IATREOs is proposed in several aspects,including impurity inhibition leaching,neutralization and impurity removal,alkaline calcium and magnesium salt precipitation enrichment,and centrifugal extraction enrichment. | Qiang He Jiang Qiu Jinfa Chen Miaomiao Zan Yanfei Xiao | 2022 | Journal of Rare Earths2022,40,3: | 5 |
| 4 | Characterization and comparison of chloroplast genomes from two sympatric Hippophae species(Elaeagnaceae)显示文摘The genus Hippophae includes deciduous shrubs or small trees,which provide many ecological,economic,and social benefi ts.We assembled and annotated the chloroplast genomes of sympatric Hippophae gyantsensis(Rousi)Lian and Hippophae rhamnoides Linn subsp.yunnanensis Rousi and comparatively analyzed their sequences.The fulllength chloroplast genomes of H.gyantsensis and H.rhamnoides subsp.yunnanensis were 155,260 and 156,415 bp,respectively;both featured a quadripartite structure with two copies of a large inverted repeat(IR)separated by small(SSC)and large(LSC)single-copy regions.Each Hippophae chloroplast genome contained 131 genes,comprising 85 protein-coding,8 ribosomal RNA,and 38 transfer RNA genes.Of 1302 nucleotide substitutions found between these twogenomes,824(63.29%)occurred in the intergenic region or intron sequences,and 478(36.71%)were located in the coding sequences.The SSC region had the highest mutation rate,followed by the LSC region and IR regions.Among the protein-coding genes,three had a ratio of nonsynonymous to synonymous substitutions(Ka/Ks)>1 yet none were signifi-cant,and 66 had Ka/Ks<1,of which 46 were signifi cant.We found 20 and 16 optimal codons,most of which ended with A or U,for chloroplast protein-coding genes of H.gyantsensis and H.rhamnoides subsp.yunnanensis,respectively.Phylogenetic analysis of fi ve available whole chloroplast genome sequences in the family Elaeagnaceae—using one Ziziphus jujube sequence as the outgroup—revealed that all fi ve plant species formed a monophyletic clade with two subclades:one subclade consisted of three Hippophae species,while the other was formed by two Elaeagnus species,supported by 100%bootstrap values.Together,these results suggest the chloroplast genomes among Hippophae species are conserved,both in structure and gene composition,due to general purifying selection;like many other plants,a signifi cant AT preference was discerned for most proteincoding genes in the Hippophae chloroplast genome.This study provides a valuable reference tool for future research on the general characteristics and evolution of chloroplast genomes in the genus Hippophae. | Luoyun Wang Jing Wang Caiyun He Jianguo Zhang Yanfei Zeng | 2021 | Journal of Forestry Research2021,32,1: | 2 |

| 6 | Nutrient value of wild fodder species and the implications for improving the diet of mithun (Bos frontalis) in Dulongjiang area, Yunnan Province, China显示文摘Wild fodder plants are valuable because they provide an important livestock feed resource globally,especially for smallholder farmers,and have important roles in natural resource management.In-depth knowledge of wild forage plants can motivate local people for feed resource and habitat conservation of threatened herbivores such as Mithun(Bos frontalis).Mithun occur in small patches in the mountains of Dulongjiang,nearby villagers domesticated this animal but left animal to freely graze in the mountains.Many fodder plants occur in these mountains,however,little is known about their nutritional value.We conducted an ethnobotanical survey to document important wild fodder plants consumed by mithun in the Dulongjiang Township.The nutritional content of 21 highly mentioned wild fodder plants in an ethnobotanical survey was examined.Laboratory analysis showed that Fagopyrum dibotrys were the fodder species with the highest crude protein(CP)content(26.89%),followed by Polygonum molle(21.88%)and Hydrangea longipes(21.12%).Synthesis of relative feed value index and grey relational grade,P.molle,H.longipes and Tetrastigma obtectum were ranked the top three nutritional fodders.There was a significant difference between 21 species on their in vitro digestibility and the most highly digestible fodder species was Elatostema hookerianum.Linear model analysis on relationship between frequency of citation of 21 wild forage plants by local farmers and their nutrient composition showed that the frequency was significantly positively correlated with the nutritional value of the feed(R2?0.28,P<0.05).We concluded that these species have high nutritional values to improve mithun production in integrated crop-livestock systems.Fodder species or mixtures of species with useful nutritional characters could be cultivated to improve livestock productivity,habitat conservation including that of mithun and wild forage resource management. | Yanfei Geng Sailesh Ranjitkar Qiaoshun Yan Zhijun He Baqi Su Shengtao Gao Junli Niu Dengpan Bu Jianchu Xu | 2020 | Plant Diversity2020,42,6: | 2 |

In this new approach, two plasma jets generated by high-intensity lasers collide headon-head. The center-of-mass energy of the nuclei increases accordingly, and therefore, reaction products can be significantly enhanced, especially in the sub-Coulomb barrier ranges. | 12 | A three-dimensional variational data assimilation system for a size-resolved aerosol model: Implementation and application for particulate matter and gaseous pollutant forecasts across China显示文摘A three-dimensional variational(3DVAR)data assimilation(DA)system is presented here based on a size-resolved sectional aerosol model,the Model for Simulating Aerosol Interactions and Chemistry(MOSAIC)within the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled to Chemistry(WRF-Chem)model.The use of this approach means that both gaseous pollutants such as SO2,NO2,CO,and O3 as well as particulate matter(PM2.5,PM10)observational data can be assimilated simultaneously.Two one-month parallel simulation experiments were conducted,one with the assimilation of surface hourly concentration observations of the above six pollutants released by the China National Environmental Monitoring Centre(CNEMC)and one without assimilation in order to verify the impact of assimilation on initial chemical fields and subsequent forecasts.Results show that,in the first place,use of the DA system can provide a more accurate model initial field.The root-mean-square error of PM2.5,PM10,SO2,NO2,CO,and O3 mass concentrations in analysis field fell by 29.27μg m-3(53.5%),34.5μg m-3(50.9%),30.36μg m-3(64.2%),8.91μg m-3(39.5%),0.46 mg m-3(47.4%),and 15.11μg m-3(51.0%),respectively,compared to a background field without assimilation.At the same time,mean fraction error was reduced by 42.6%,53.1%,45.2%,43.1%,69.9%,and 48.8%,respectively,while the correlation coefficient increased by 0.51,0.55,0.48,0.38,0.47,0.65,respectively.Secondly,the results of this analysis reveal variable benefits from assimilation on different pollutants.DA significantly improves PM2.5,PM10,and CO forecasts leading to positive effects that last more than 48 h.The positive effects of DA on SO2 and O3 forecasts last up to 8 h but that remains relatively poor for NO2 forecasts.Thirdly,the influence of assimilation varies in different areas.It is possible that the positive effects of DA on PM2.5 and PM10 forecasts can last more than 48 h across most regions of China.Indeed,DA significantly improves SO2 forecasts within 48 h over north China,and much longer CO assimilation benefits(48 h)are found in most regions apart from north and east China and across the Sichuan Basin.DA is able to improve O3 forecasts within 48 h across China with the exception of southwest and northwest regions and the O3 DA benefits in southern China are more evident,while from a spatial distribution perspective,NO2 DA benefits remain relatively poor. | Daichun WANG Wei YOU Zengliang ZANG Xiaobin PAN Hongrang HE Yanfei LIANG | 2020 | Science China Earth Sciences2020,63,9: | 1 |

| 18 | Growth performance,fatty acid composition,and lipid metabolism are altered in groupers(Epinephelus coioides)by dietary fish oil replacement with palm oil显示文摘In this study,we conducted a 56-d feeding trial to investigate the effects of replacing the fish oil(FO)with palm oil(PO)on the performance,tissue fatty acid(FA)composition,and mRNA levels of genes related to hepatic lipid metabolism in grouper(Epinephelus coioides).Five isolipidic(13%crude lipid)and isonitrogenous(48%CP)diets were formulated by incrementally adding PO to the control diet(25%fish meal and 9%added FO)to replace FO in the control diets.Triplicate groups of 30 groupers(initial weight:12.6±0.1 g)were fed one of the diets twice daily,to apparent satiety.The replacement of FO with 50%PO revealed maximum growth without affecting the performance and whole-body proximate compositions,and replacing FO with 100%PO revealed a comparable(P>0.05)growth with that of the control diet,suggesting PO as a suitable alternative to FO.The analysis of FA profiles in the dorsal muscle and liver though reflected the FA profile of the diet,PO substitutions above 50%could compromise(P<0.05)the FA profile in the liver and flesh of the fish species in comparison with the control diet.Furthermore,the mRNA levels of FAS,G6PD,LPL,PPARА,and D6FAD genes in the liver had positive linear and/or quadratic responses,but the SCD,HSL,ATGL,FABP,SREBP-1C and ELOVL5 had the opposite trend,with increasing dietary PO inclusion levels,whereas the mRNA level of ACC was not affected by dietary treatments.The optimal level of PO substitution for FO was estimated to be 47.1%of the feed,based on the regression analysis of percent weight gains against dietary PO inclusion levels;however,it might affect the FA profile in the liver and flesh of the fish species,and further study is required to investigate whether the changes in tissue FA composition will affect the welfare and market value over a production cycle of grouper. | Yingmei Qin Lingyun He Yanfei Wang Dong Li Weijun Chen Jidan Ye | 2022 | Animal Nutrition2022,,1: | 1 |

| 20 | Tobacco Rattle Virus-induced Phytoene Desaturase (PDS) Silencing in Centaurea cyanus显示文摘Virus-induced gene silencing(VIGS)is a genetic tool used to assess gene function.Tobacco rattle virus(TRV)is a VIGS vector commonly used to induce endogenous gene silencing in plants.However,there is no VIGS system established for Centaurea spp.We evaluated the effectiveness of a TRV-based VIGS system using phytoene desaturase(PDS)as a reporter gene in Centaurea cyanus.Three methods including pressure-,vacuum-and apical meristem-infiltrationwere tested to infect C.cyanus seedlings.Photobleached leaveswere only obtained using apicalmeristem-infiltration after a 14 d treatment.The CcPDS transcripts in photobleached leaves were significantly reduced compared with that in green leaves treated with empty TRV.Four C.cyanus cultivars were tested to detect their VIGS responses,and‘Dwarf Tom Pouce Blue’was the most sensitive.The agro-infiltration condition was optimized by screening for the optimal seedling stage as well as the optimum Agrobacterium density for efficient silencing.Seedlings with four true leaves and infiltration with an Agrobacterium density of OD_(600)0.5 were optimal conditions to obtain more photobleached leaves and more intense photobleached phenotype.The results demonstrated the feasibility of TRV-based VIGS for functional analysis of genes in C.cyanus. | Chengyan Deng Fan Zhang Jiaying Wang Yanfei Li He Huang Silan Dai | 2021 | Horticultural Plant Journal2021,7,2: | 1 |
