| 1 | Natural Variation in CCD4 Promoter Underpins Species-Specific Evolution of Red Coloration in Citrus Peel显示文摘Carotenoids and apocarotenoids act as phytohormones and volatile precursors that influence plant development and confer aesthetic and nutritional value critical to consumer preference.Citrus fruits display considerable natural variation in carotenoid and apocarotenoid pigments.In this study,using an integrated genetic approach we revealed that a 5;c/s-regulatory change at CCD4b encoding CAROTENOID CLEAVAGE DIOXYGENASE 4b is a major genetic determinant of natural variation in C3 0 apocarotenoids responsible for red coloration of citrus peel.Functional analyses demonstrated that in addition the known role in synthesizing 3-citraurin,CCD4b is also responsible for the production of another important C3 0 apocarotenoid pigment,p-citraurinene.Furthermore,analyses of the CCD4b promoter and transcripts from various citrus germplasm accessions established a tight correlation between the presence of a putative 5'c/s-regulatory enhancer within an MITE transposon and the enhanced allelic expression of CCD4b in C3 0 apocarotenoid-rich red-peeled accessions.Phylogenetic analysis provided further evidence that functional diversification of CCD4b and naturally occurring variation of the CCD4b promoter resulted in the stepwise evolution of red peels in mandarins and their hybrids.Taken together,our findings provide new insights into the genetic and evolutionary basis of apocarotenoid diversity in plants,and would facilitate breeding efforts that aim to improve the nutritional and aesthetic value of citrus and perhaps other fruit crops. | Xiongjie Zheng Kaijie Zhu Quan Sun Weiyi Zhang Xia Wang Hongbo Cao Meilian Tan Zongzhou Xie Yunliu Zeng Junli Ye Lijun Chai Qiang Xu Zhiyong Pan Shunyuan Xiao Paul D.Fraser Xiuxin Deng | 2019 | Molecular Plant2019,12,9: | 18 |
| 2 | Effects of applying lactic acid bacteria to the fermentation on a mixture of corn steep liquor and air-dried rice straw显示文摘This study was to determine the fermentation quality of a mixture of corn steep liquor(CSL)(178 g/kg wet basis) and air-dried rice straw(356 g/kg wet basis) after being treated with inoculants of different types of lactic acid bacteria(LAB). The treatments included the addition of no LAB additive(control),which was deionized water; homo-fermentative LAB alone(^(ho)LAB), which was Lactobacillus plantarum alone), and a mixture of homo-fermentative and hetero-fermentative LAB(^(he+ho)LAB), which were L. plantarum, Lactobacillus casei, and Lactobacillus buchneri. The results showed that the inoculation of the mixture of CSL and air-dried rice straw with ^(he+ho)LAB significantly increased the concentration of acetic acid and lactic acid compared with the control(P < 0.05). The addition of ^(he+ho)LAB effectively inhibited the growth of yeast in the silage. The concentration of total lactic acid bacteria in the ^(he+ho)LAB-treated silage was significant higher than those obtained in other groups(P < 0.05). The duration of the aerobic stability of the silages increased from 56 h to >372 h. The control group was the first to spoil, whereas the silage treated with ^(he+ho)LAB remained stable throughout the 372 h period of monitoring. | 8 | Novel Mg-Bi-Mn wrought alloys:The effects of extrusion temperature and Mn addition on their microstructures and mechanical properties显示文摘Designing and developing the Mg alloys with low cost and high performance is of the great significance.Novel Mg-1Bi-xMn(x=0,1and 2 wt.%)extruded alloys,in this work,were fabricated at different extrusion temperatures(220,250 and 300℃).The effects of extrusion temperature and Mn addition on the microstructures and mechanical properties of extruded alloys at room temperature were investigated.The results showed that decreasing the extrusion temperature could refine the average grain size,weaken the basal fiber texture intensity and improve the microstructural homogeneity of extruded alloys.When the Mn element was added to the Mg-1Bi alloy,the average grain size further reduced.Simultaneously,the number fraction of low angle grain boundaries(LAGBs)increased,along with the occurrence of regions without dynamic recrystallization(unDRX).The combined effects of grain refinement and coarse unDRXed structure made the textures of the extruded Mg-1Bi-xMn alloys never obviously change.Besides few large size un-dissolved second phases,fine Mg_(3)Bi_(2) and α-Mn phases were precipitated in the extruded Mg-1Bi-xMn alloys and partial nano-scaleα-Mn particles pined at grain boundaries(GBs)to effectively impede the migration of GBs for grain refinement.Microstructural variations determined the extruded Mg-1Bi-2Mn alloy to exhibit the highest yield strength of~319.2 MPa with the appropriate elongation-to-failure of~13%at the extrusion temperature of 220℃,and they enabled the extruded Mg-1Bi-1Mn alloy to show the highest elongation-to-failure of~26%without the obvious loss of yield strength of~252.1 MPa. | Qinghang Wang Haowei Zhai Lintao Liu Hongbo Xia Bin Jiang Jun Zhao Daolun Chen Fusheng Pan | 2022 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2022,10,9: | 2 |

| 14 | Anomalous crystal structure of γ' phase in the Mg-RE-Zn(Ag) series alloys:Causality clarified by ab initio study显示文摘The crystal structure of the single-unit-cell thickness γ ' phase,as a key strengthening phase in Mg-REZn(Ag) series alloys,has been extensively studied,and several structural models have been proposed in the past two decades.However,these reported models,and even the lattice constants at the same proposed structure,are scattered severely,which has led to considerable confusion and not available for further mechanical property simulation and prediction of Mg alloys containing this phase.In this study,by using first-principles calculations,the crystal structure of y' phase is clarified,resolving the discrepancies among different experiments,and its intrinsic mechanical properties have also been studied for the first time.It is verified that the γ ' phase contains quasi-five atomic layers,instead of the previously reported tri-layer,and surprisingly,its crystal structure has many variants,which would change with the alloy composition.Besides,with the help of the simulated selected area electron diffraction(SAED) patterns,it is found that the atoms in the central layer remain partially ordered distribution,and this ordered extent primarily depends on the atomic ratio of RE:Zn(Ag) and the solute content in an alloy.That is,the ordered extent increases with decreasing the atomic ratio of RE:Zn(Ag) and/or increasing solute content of alloy,and vice versa.Ag and Zn dissolved in the γ' phase would produce almost opposed mechanical anisotropy for the γ ' phase under the identical crystal structure,and the addition of Ag shows more efficient on increasing the shear modulus of γ' phase. | Junyuan Bai Xueyong Pang Xiangying Meng Hongbo Xie Hucheng Pan Yuping Ren Min Jiang Gaowu Qin | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,36,1: | 1 |

| 16 | AQR is a novel type 2 diabetes-associated gene that regulates signaling pathways critical for glucose metabolism显示文摘Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2 DM) is a common metabolic disease influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. In this study, we performed an in-house genotyping and meta-analysis study using three independent GWAS datasets of T2 DM and found that rs3743121, located 1 kb downstream of AQR,was a novel susceptibility SNP associated with T2 DM. The risk allele C of rs3743121 was correlated with the increased expression of AQR in white blood cells, similar to that observed in T2 DM models. The knockdown of AQR in HepG2 facilitated the glucose uptake, decreased the expression level of PCK2,increased the phosphorylation of GSK-3β, and restored the insulin sensitivity. Furthermore, the suppression of AQR inhibited the mTOR pathway and the protein ubiquitination process. | 17 | A mechanically durable,excellent recyclable 3D hierarchical Ni_(3)S_(2)@Ni foam photothermal membrane显示文摘Solar-driven water evaporation is considered to be a viable and very efficient technology for fresh water production.Unfortunately,the photothermal membrane has a low absorptivity,low photothermal conversion and poor recyclability,which are difficult to meet the demands of self-floating solar driven evaporators in practical applications.Herein,a hierarchical nanostructure Ni_(3)S_(2) has been prepared by in-situ growing method on Ni foam(NF),which shows excellent absorptivity,outstanding recyclable and high mechanically durable properties.The photothermal membrane was composed of hierarchical nanostructure Ni_(3)S_(2)@NF,which exhibited excellent solar absorption(93.13%) in the wavelength range of 250–2500 nm and sustained anti-corrosion capacity for one month.In addition,the hierarchical nanostructure Ni_(3)S_(2)@NF has good hydrophilicity and strong binding force,indicating this photothermal membrane exhibits good stability and outstanding photothermal conversion efficiency.An evaporation system based on 3D Ni_(3)S_(2)@NF membrane exhibited excellent water evaporation ability,the highest water evaporation rate(1.53 kg m^(-2)h^(-1)) and the photothermal conversion efficiency(84.7%) under 1 sun illumination.In the desalination experiment,the water evaporation rate and photothermal conversion efficiency almost keep constant over 5 cycles tests and do not decrease compared with the experiment in pure water.This result demonstrated that the Ni_(3)S_(2)@NF membrane has shown good corrosion resistance and outstanding recyclability.Due to the simple preparation method,low cost,outstanding recyclability and high mechanical durability in the sea water,this Ni_(3)S_(2)@NF membrane have great potential for long-term solar distillation applications. | Zhongping Yao Kailun Yu Mengyao Pan Hongbo Xu Tianqi Zhao Zhaohua Jiang | 2022 | Green Energy & Environment2022,7,3: | 1 |
