1Solar activity effects of the ionosphere: A brief review显示文摘Solar radiation, which varies over multiple temporal scales, modulates remarkably the evolution of the ionosphere. The solar activity dependence of the ionosphere is a key and fundamental issue in ionospheric physics, providing information essential to understanding the variations in the ionosphere and its processes. Selected recent studies on solar activity effects of the ionosphere are briefly reviewed in this report. This report focuses on (1) observations of solar irradiance at X-ray and extreme ultraviolet wavelengths and the outstanding problems of solar proxies, in the view of ionospheric studies, (2) new findings and improved representations of the features of the solar activity dependence of ionospheric key parameters and the corresponding physical processes, (3) possible phenomena in the ionosphere under extremely high and low solar activity conditions that are unique, as indicated by historical solar datasets and the deep solar minimum of solar cycle 23/24, and (4) statistical studies and model simulations of the ionosphere response to solar flares. 2Phase Transformation Behavior and Microstructural Control of High-Cr Martensitic/Ferritic Heat-resistant Steels for Power and Nuclear Plants: A Review显示文摘The martensitic/ferritic steels have been used as boiler and turbine materials in power plants, and also been selected as potential materials for structural materials in nuclear reactors. In this paper, the kinetic analysis of the martensite formation and microstructural control of high-Cr martensitic/ferritic steels are reviewed. A modular approach, incorporating Fisher partitioning nucleation and anisotropic growth for impingement, was proposed to describe the martensite formation kinetics under different cooling rates.The kinetic analysis suggested a thermal-activated growth feature occurring during the martensitic transformation of martensitic steels. The microstructure can be tuned by composition optimization and various combinations of heat treatment parameters(temperature, time, severe and minor deformation).For the application in power plant, the potential of boundary-design, refinement of original austenite grain size and the final martensitic lath, pinning effect of stable carbides, in improving the performances of martensitic/ferritic steels at elevated temperatures should be investigated more thoroughly.Furthermore, efforts should be made to explore the effects of retained austenite on the improvement of high-temperature creep strength. 3The characteristic differences of tropical cyclones forming over the western North Pacific and the South China Sea显示文摘The best track dataset of tropical cyclones in the western North Pacific (WNP) and the South China Sea (SCS) from 1977 to 2005 during the satellite era, the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis dataset and the extended reconstructed sea surface temperature dataset are employed in this study. The main climatological characteristics of tropical cyclone formation over the WNP and the SCS are compared. It is found that there is obviously different for the locations of tropical cyclone origins, achieving the lowest central pressure and termination points between over the WNP and over the SCS. The annual number of tropical cyclones forming over the SCS is obviously less than over the WNP, and there is a significant negative correlation with the correlation coefficient being -0.36 at the 5% significance level between over the WNP and over the SCS. The mean speed of tropical cyclone moving is 6.5 m /s over the WNP and 4.6 m /s over the SCS. The mean lowest central pressure of tropical cyclones is obviously weaker over the SCS than over the WNP. The tropical cyclone days per year, mean total distance and total displacement of tropical cyclone traveled over the WNP are all obviously longer than those over the SCS. Tropical cyclone may intensify to Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale 5 over the WNP, but no tropical cyclone can intensify to Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale 3 over the SCS. The changing ranges of the radii(R15,R16) of the 15.4 m /s winds them and the 25.7 m /s winds over the WNP are obviously wider than those over the SCS, and the median values of the radii over the WNP are also larger than those over the SCS. For the same intensity of tropical cyclones, both radii have larger medians over the WNP than over the SCS. The correlations of annual mean tropical cyclone size parameters between over the WNP and over the SCS are not significant. 4Platelet proteomics and its advanced application for research of blood stasis syndrome and activated blood circulation herbs of Chinese medicine显示文摘The development of novel and efficient antiplatelet agents that have few adverse effects and methods that improve antiplatelet resistance has long been the focus of international research on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.Recent advances in platelet proteomics have provided a technology platform for high-quality research of platelet pathophysiology and the development of new antiplatelet drugs.The study of blood stasis syndrome(BSS)and activated blood circulation of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)is one of the most active fields where the integration of TCM and western medicine in China has been successful.Activated blood circulation herbs(ABC herbs)of Chinese medicine are often used in the treatment of BSS.Most ABC herbs have antiplatelet and anti-atherosclerosis activity,but knowledge about their targets is lacking.Coronary heart disease(CHD),BSS,and platelet activation are closely related.By screening and identifying activated platelet proteins that are differentially expressed in BSS of CHD,platelet proteomics has helped researchers interpret the antiplatelet mechanism of action of ABC herbs and provided many potential biomarkers for BSS that could be used to evaluate the clinical curative effect of new antiplatelet drugs.In this article the progress of platelet proteomics and its advanced application for research of BSS and ABC herbs of Chinese medicine are reviewed.LIU Yue YIN HuiJun CHEN KeJi 2013Science China(Life Sciences)2013,56,11:14

7Precipitation and hot deformation behavior of austenitic heat-resistant steels: A review显示文摘The austenitic heat resistant-steels have been considered as important candidate materials for advanced supercritical boilers, nuclear reactors, super heaters and chemical reactors, due to their favorable combination of high strength, corrosion resistance, perfect mechanical properties, workability and low cost.Since the precipitation behavior of the steels during long-term service at elevated temperature would lead to the deterioration of mechanical properties, it is essential to clarify the evolution of secondary phases in the microstructure of the steels. Here, a summary of recent progress in the precipitation behavior and the coarsening mechanism of various precipitates during aging in austenitic steels is made. Various secondary phases are formed under service conditions, like MX carbonitrides, M_(23)C_6 carbides, Z phase, sigma phase and Laves phase. It is found that the coarsening rate of M_(23)C_6 carbides is much higher than that of MX carbonitrides. 9Effect of substrate COD/N ratio on performance and microbial community structure of a membrane aerated biofilm reactor显示文摘Two parallel carbon-membrane aerated biofilm reactors were operated at well-defined conditions to investigate the effect of substrate COD/N ratios on the performance and microbial community structure of the bioreactor.Results showed that at substrate COD/N of 5,organic and nitrogen could be eliminated simultaneously,and COD removal degree,nitrification and denitrification efficiency reached 85%,93% and 92%,respectively.With increasing substrate COD/N ratios,the specific oxygen utilization rates of nitrifying bacteria in biofilm were found to decrease,indicating that nitrifying population became less dominant.At substrate COD/N ratio of 6,excessive heterotrophs inhibited the activity of nitrifying bacteria greatly and thus led to poor nitrification process.With the help of fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH),Nitrosomonas and Nitrosospira were identified as dominant ammonia-oxidizing bacteria in the biofilm at substrate COD/N of 0,whereas only Nitrosospira were detected in the biofilm at COD/N ratio of 5.Nitrospira were present as dominant nitrite-oxidizing bacteria in our study.Confocal laser scanning microscopy images revealed that at substrate COD/N ratio of 0 nitrifying bacteria existed throughout the biofilm and that at COD/N ratio of 5 they were mainly distributed in the inner layer of biofilm.Huijun Liu Fenglin Yang Shuyi Shi Xincheng Liu 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,4:9
10Application of Two-Dimensional Electrophoresis in the Research of Retinal Proteins of Diabetic Rat显示文摘Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease which is associated with numerous serious health complications such as diabetic retinopathy, and is the leading cause of new cases of blindness in adults at the age of 20-74 years old. The aim of the study was to establish and optimize a two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-DE) technique for retina proteomics to improve the resolution and reproducibility, and to observe the proteomic changes of retinal tissues in diabetic and normal rats. Proteins were extracted from retinal tissues of normal and 8 weeks diabetic SD rats and used in two-dimensional electrophoresis. Various conditions of retina proteomic 2-DE were adjusted, optimized and protein spots of differential expression were obtained through analysis of 2-DE images with PDQuest software. By choosing appropriate sample amount, using pre-cast IPG dry strips (pH 5-8) and casting 12% equal gel, satisfactory 2-DE images of retina were obtained and a steady 2-DE technique was established. In this way, we found 36 spots in 2-DE gel of diabetic retinas that exhibited statistically significant variations, including up-regulation of 5 proteins in diabetic rat retinas, down-regulation of 23, and disappearance of 8, in comparison with normal tissues. The differences of protein expression were observed in retinas between diabetic and normal rats. 11Microstructures and mechanical properties of friction stir welds on 9% Cr reduced activation ferritic/martensitic steel显示文摘In this study,the microstructures and mechanical properties of 9%Cr reduced activation ferritic/martensitic(RAFM) steel friction stir welded joints were investigated.When a W-Re tool is used,the recommended welding parameters are 300 rpm rotational speed,60 mm/min welding speed and10 kn axial force.In stir zone(SZ),austenite dynamic recrystallization induced by plastic deformation and the high cooling rates lead to an obvious refinement of prior austenite grains and martensite laths.The microstructure in SZ contains lath martensite with high dislocation density,a lot of nano-sized MX and M_3C phase particles,but almost no M_(23)C_6 precipitates.In thermal mechanically affect zone(TMAZ)and heat affect zone(HAZ),refinement of prior austenite and martensitic laths and partial dissolution of M_(23)C_6 precipitates are obtained at relatively low rotational speed.However,with the increase of heat input,coarsening of martensitic laths,prior austenite grains,and complete dissolution of M_(23)C_6 precipitates are achieved.Impact toughness of SZ at-20?C is slightly lower than that of base material(BM),and exhibits a decreasing trend with the increase of rotational speed.Chao Zhang Lei Cui Yongchang Liu Chenxi Liu Huijun Li 2018Journal of Materials Science & Technology2018,34,5:8
12Survival of people living with HIV after treatment with Traditional Chinese Medicine in Henan province of China: a retrospective cohortstudy显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To provide survival estimates of people living with human immunodeficiency virus(PLHIV) after treatment with Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) in rural China, to identify the prognostic factors at enrollment, and to explore the effectiveness of TCM intreating PLHIV.METHODS: PLHIV who enrolled in national TCM HIV treatment trial program in October 2004 were analyzed in this study and followed up to October 2010. Survival time was estimated by the Kaplan-Meier curve and hazard ratios, and identifying prognostic factors were computed through Cox proportional hazard models.RESULTS:A total of 1666 PLHIV were included with 102 591 person-months of follow-up. Overall, 312(18.7%) patients died. The total mortality rate over the study period was 3.6 per 100 person-years,which was lower than the worldwide rate. The cumulative survival rate was 95.9% at 1 year[95% confidence interval(CI)(94.8-96.8)] and 80.4% at 6years [95% CI(78.4-82.3)]. Elevated death risks emerged among males, older individuals, and thosewithlowerCD4+T-cellcounts.CONCLUSION: TCM could increase survival and lengthen the life span of PLHIV in Henan province of China, as shown by our retrospective cohort study. Factors such as sex, age, education, and CD4+ T-cell counts correlated to survival. 13Correlation between platelet gelsolin levels and different types of coronary heart disease显示文摘Gelsolin is an important cytoskeletal protein of platelets and studies have shown a close relationship between gelsolin and cardiovascular disease.However,the role of gelsolin in the development of coronary heart disease(CHD) is unclear.In this study,we record the distribution of gelsolin in human platelets and plasma and its association with different types of CHD.This study included 114 cases,with 33 stable angina pectoris(SAP) cases,81 acute coronary syndrome(ACS) cases—composed of 39 unstable angina pectoris(UAP) and 42 acute myocardial infarction(AMI) cases,and 31 healthy control participants.Gelsolin concentration in platelet rich plasma(PRP) and platelet poor plasma(PPP),actin filament(F-actin) and Gc-globulin of PPP were determined by enzyme-linked immunoadsorbent assay(ELISA).The fluorescence intensity of CD62p and cytoplasmic calcium([Ca2+] i) in human platelets measured by flow cytometry.We also used turbidimetry to detect the platelet aggregation rate(PAR).We analyzed the correlation between platelet gelsolin concentration and CD62p or plasma F-actin levels among each different patient group.Compared with the control group,the gelsolin level in PRP of UAP and AMI groups increased significantly(P<0.01),while the gelsolin level in PPP of all the three patient groups decreased markedly(P<0.01),and the CD62p,PAR,[Ca2+] i of platelets,F-actin and Gc-globulin of the UAP and AMI groups increased significantly(P<0.01).Compared with the SAP group,the gelsolin level in PRP,the PAR,[Ca2+] i of platelets and CD62p of other two groups increased significantly(P<0.01),F-actin of the AMI group increased markedly(P<0.01).Platelet cytoskeleton protein dynamics vary among the different types of CHD.Platelet gelsolin levels are markedly increased and accompanied by increased platelet activity,F-actin and [Ca2+] i of ACS patients,while gelsolin levels in PPP are markedly lower.Abnormally increased platelet gelsolin levels show high positive correlation with the level of platelet activity.Therefore,platelet gelsolin might be a novel molecular marker and/or a new potential therapeutic target of anti-platelet therapy of ACS.LIU Yue YIN HuiJun JIANG YueRong XUE Mei CHEN KeJi 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,6:8
14Differences in acquired immune deficiency syndrome treatment and evaluation strategies between Chinese and Western Medicine显示文摘Complementary and alternative medicine, including Chinese medicine(CM), has been used to treat acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS) for almost 30 years. We aimed to compare the main differences between AIDS treatment and evaluation strategies between CM and Western Medicine(WM), and analyze advantages and disadvantages.The characteristics of integrative medicine(IM),based on CM and WM, include a patient-centered mode of medicine based on evidence. IM focuses on complex intervention and management with systemic and individual treatment. The evaluation indexes of IM might consist of objective indicators and subjective indexes. 15Aerobic granules cultivated and operated in continuous-flow bioreactor under particle-size selective pressure显示文摘A novel method based on the selective pressure of particle size(particle-size cultivation method, PSCM) was developed for the cultivation and operation of aerobic granular sludge in a continuous-flow reactor, and compared with the conventional method based on the selective pressure of settling velocity(settling-velocity cultivation method, SVCM). Results indicated that aerobic granules could be cultivated in continuous operation mode by this developed method within 14 days. Although in the granulation process, under particle-size selective pressure, mixed liquor suspended solids(MLSS) in the reactor fluctuated greatly and filamentous bacteria dominated the sludge system during the initial operation days, no obvious difference in profile was found between the aerobic granules cultivated by PSCM and SVCM. Moreover, aerobic granules cultivated by PSCM presented larger diameter, lower water content and higher specific rates of nitrification, denitrification and phosphorus removal, but lower settling velocity. Under long term operation of more than 30 days, aerobic granules in the continuous-flow reactor could remain stable and obtain good chemical oxygen demand(COD), NH4+-N, total nitrogen(TN) and total phosphorus(TP) removal. 16Sorption removal of cephalexin by HNO_3 and H_2O_2 oxidized activated carbons显示文摘Cephalexin's traces within pharmaceutical effluents have toxic impact toward ecological and human health.Low-cost activated carbon derived from Trapa natans husk was oxidized with hydrogen peroxide and nitric acid,and tested for their ability to remove cephalexin from aqueous solutions.Oxidization with H2O2 showed negative effect on the cephalexin sorption,whereas HNO3 oxidization improved the adsorption.The cephalexin adsorption isotherms on the native and HNO3 oxidized carbons correlated well with the Freundlich equation while their kinetics followed the pseudo-second order model.The removal of cephalexin by the native and HNO3 oxidized carbons was found to be most favored at low ionic strength and strong acidic conditions.Based on the thermal and FTIR analyses,the interaction mechanisms of the interaction between cephalexin and the carbons were proposed.Electrostatic attraction,hydrophobic interaction and chemical bonding with surface functional groups were demonstrated as primary mechanisms for cephalexin removal.The nitrogen functionalities on the carbon surface were considered to be an important factor affecting the adsorption process.LIU WeiFeng XIE HuiJun ZHANG Jian ZHANG ChengLu 2012Science China Chemistry2012,55,9:7
17Development of a middle and low latitude theoretical ionospheric model and an observation system data assimilation experiment显示文摘On the basis of previous work, we develop a middle and low latitude theoretical ionospheric model in this paper, named Theoretical Ionospheric Model of the Earth in the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (TIME-IGGCAS). TIME-IGGCAS solves the equations of mass continuity, motion and energy of electron and ions self-consistently and uses an eccentric dipole field approxima-tion to the Earth’s magnetic field. We combine the Eulerian and Lagrangian approaches in the model and take account of the plasma E×B drift velocity. Calculation results reveal that the model is steady and credible and can reproduce most large-scale features of ionosphere. By using TIME-IGGCAS, we carried out an observation system data assimilation experiment. Assimilation results show that the E×B drift velocity can be accurately estimated by ingesting the observed foF2 and hmF2 into the model ap-plying nonlinear least-square fit method. 18Generalized constructal optimization of strip laminar cooling process based on entransy theory显示文摘A strip laminar cooling process is investigated in this paper. Entransy theory and generalized constructal optimization are introduced into the optimization. Total water flow amount(WFA) in the laminar cooling zone(LCZ) and complex function are taken as the constraint and optimization objective, respectively. The entransy dissipation(ED) and maximum temperature different(MTD) of the strip are simultaneously considered in the complex function. WFA distributions of the headers in the LCZ are optimized. The effects of the total WFA, strip thickness and cooling water temperature on the optimal results are analyzed.The optimal cooling scheme is the eleventh cooling mode for the considered total 257 cooling schemes, and the complex function,ED and MTD of the strip are decreased by 11.59%, 5.59% and 17.58% compared with the initial cooling scheme, respectively.The total WFA and strip thickness have the obvious influences on the optimal cooing scheme, but the cooling water temperature has no influence in the parameter analysis range of this paper. Method Five hundred and forty-six non-syndromic neuro-sensory hearing loss patients were tested for 1555A→G mutation using a new compact testing kit, which allows clear distinction between wild type and 1555 A→G mutated mtDNAs. Results Nineteen subjects among the 546 patients (3.48%) were found to carry mtDNA A1555G mutation. The results were confirmed by sequencing in an ABI 3100 Avant sequencer. Conclusions Maternal inherited deafness families are a frequently seen in outpatient group. 20Evaluation of the Global and Regional Assimilation and Prediction System for Predicting Sea Fog over the South China Sea显示文摘In the South China Sea, sea fog brings severe disasters every year, but forecasters have yet to implement an effective seafog forecast. To address this issue, we test a liquid-water-content-only(LWC-only) operational sea-fog prediction method based on a regional mesoscale numerical model with a horizontal resolution of about 3 km, the Global and Regional Assimilation and Prediction System(GRAPES), hereafter GRAPES-3 km. GRAPES-3 km models the LWC over the sea, from which we infer the visibility that is then used to identify fog. We test the GRAPES-3 km here against measurements in 2016 and 2017 from coastal-station observations, as well as from buoy data, data from the Integrated Observation Platform for Marine Meteorology, and retrieved fog and cloud patterns from Himawari-8 satellite data. For two cases that we examine in detail, the forecast region of sea fog overlaps well with the multi-observational data within 72 h. Considering forecasting for0–24 h, GRAPES-3 km has a 2-year-average equitable threat score(ETS) of 0.20 and a Heidke skill score(HSS) of 0.335,which is about 5.6%(ETS) and 6.4%(HSS) better than our previous method(GRAPES-MOS).
