| 1 | Overexpression of micro RNA_(40)8 enhances photosynthesis, growth, and seed yield in diverse plants显示文摘The ability of a plant to produce grain, fruit, or forage depends ultimately on photosynthesis. There have been few attempts, however, to study micro RNAs, which are a class of endogenous small RNAs post-transcriptionally programming gene expression, in relation to photosynthetic traits. We focused on miR_(40)8, one of the most conserved plant miRNAs, and overexpressed it in parallel in Arabidopsis, tobacco, and rice. The transgenic plants all exhibited increased copper content in the chloroplast, elevated abundance of plastocyanin,and an induction of photosynthetic genes. By means of gas exchange and optical spectroscopy analyses, we showed that higher expression of miR_(40)8 leads to enhanced photosynthesis through improving efficiency of irradiation utilization and the capacity for carbon dioxide fixation. Consequently, miR_(40)8 hyper-accumulating plants exhibited higher rate of vegetative growth. An enlargement of seed size was also observed in all three species overproducing miR_(40)8. Moreover, we conducted a 2-year-two-location field trial and observed miR_(40)8 overexpression in rice significantly increased yield, which was primarily attributed to an elevation in grain weight. | 2 | Inorganic Colloidal Electrolyte for Highly Robust Zinc‑Ion Batteries显示文摘Zinc-ion batteries(ZIBs)is a promising electrical energy storage candidate due to its eco-friendliness,low cost,and intrinsic safety,but on the cathode the element dissolution and the formation of irreversible products,and on the anode the growth of dendrite as well as irreversible products hinder its practical application.Herein,we propose a new type of the inorganic highly concentrated colloidal electrolytes(HCCE)for ZIBs promoting simultaneous robust protection of both cathode/anode leading to an effective suppression of element dissolution,dendrite,and irreversible products growth.The new HCCE has high Zn^(2+)ion transference number(0.64)endowed by the limitation of SO4^(2−),the competitive ion conductivity(1.1×10^(–2) S cm^(−1))and Zn2+ion diffusion enabled by the uniform pore distribution(3.6 nm)and the limited free water.The Zn/HCCE/α-MnO2 cells exhibit high durability under both high and low current densities,which is almost 100%capacity retention at 200 mA g^(−1) after 400 cycles(290 mAh g^(−1))and 89%capacity retention under 500 mA g^(−1) after 1000 cycles(212 mAh g^(−1)).Considering material sustainability and batteries’high performances,the colloidal electrolyte may provide a feasible substitute beyond the liquid and all-solid-state electrolyte of ZIBs. | Jiawei Gao Xuesong Xie Shuquan Liang Bingan Lu Jiang Zhou | 2021 | Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,4: | 6 |

| 4 | Stereotactic body radiation therapy versus radiofrequency ablation in patients with small hepatocellular carcinoma:a systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘Background:This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes and toxicity between small hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients treated with stereotactic body radiation therapy(SBRT)and those treated with radiofrequency ablation(RFA).Methods:We searched databases for relevant clinical studies.The primary outcomes of interest were overall survival(OS)at 1 and 2 years,freedom from local progression(FFLP)rate at 2 years,and complications.Results:Five cohorts from 5 retrospective studies and 4,814 patients with HCC were included.Pooled OS at 2 years was significantly lower for SBRT than for RFA[odds ratio(OR):0.63;95%confidence interval(CI):0.51-0.79;P<0.0001],but the pooled FFLP rate at 2 years was higher for SBRT than for RFA(OR:1.66;95%CI:1.05-2.61;P=0.03).In addition,there was no significant difference in the local and liver toxicities of the two treatments.The contradictory conclusion between the OS and FFLP outcome may be attributed to the difference in radiological dose and location,but there were no uniform criteria to illustrate the radiological dose and location in the included studies.Conclusions:SBRT had a higher local control ratio but poorer prognosis than RFA in patients with small HCC.The local toxicity was comparable in both treatments.Further trials should be designed with uniform standards for SBRT and RFA treatments. | Jiawei Hong Linping Cao Haiyang Xie Yuanxing Liu Jun Yu Shusen Zheng | 2021 | Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition2021,10,5: | 5 |
| 5 | Microwave ablation of primary breast cancer inhibits metastatic progression in model mice via activation of natural killer cells显示文摘Surgery is essential for controlling the symptoms and complications of stage IV breast cancer.However,locoregional treatment of primary tumors often results in distant progression,including lung metastasis,the most common type of visceral metastasis.As a minimally invasive thermal therapy,microwave ablation(MWA)has been attempted in the treatment of breast cancer,but the innate immune response after MWA has not yet been reported.Using two murine models of stage IV breast cancer,we found that MWA of primary breast cancer inhibited the progression of lung metastasis and improved survival.NK cells were activated after MWA of the primary tumor and exhibited enhanced cytotoxic functions,and the cytotoxic pathways of NK cells were activated.Depletion experiments showed that NK cells but not CD4+or CD8+T cells played a pivotal role in prolonging survival.Then,we found that compared with surgery or control treatment,MWA of the primary tumor induced completely different NK-cell-related cytokine profiles.Macrophages were activated after MWA of the primary tumor and produced IL-15 that activated NK cells to inhibit the progression of metastasis.In addition,MWA of human breast cancer stimulated an autologous NK-cell response.These results demonstrate that MWA of the primary tumor in metastatic breast cancer inhibits metastatic progression via the macrophage/IL-15/NK-cell axis.MWA of the primary tumor may be a promising treatment strategy for de novo stage IV breast cancer,although further substantiation is essential for clinical testing. | Muxin Yu Hong Pan Nan Che Li Li Cong Wang Yue Wang Ge Ma Mengjia Qian Jiawei Liu Mingjie Zheng Hui Xie Lijun Ling Yi Zhao Xiaoxiang Guan Qiang Ding Wenbin Zhou Shui Wang | 2021 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,9: | 5 |

| 13 | A generic framework for geotechnical subsurface modeling with machine learning显示文摘This study introduces a generic framework for geotechnical subsurface modeling, which accounts for spatial autocorrelation with local mapping machine learning(ML) methods. Instead of using XY coordinate fields directly as model input, a series of autocorrelated geotechnical distance fields(GDFs) is designed to enable the ML models to infer the spatial relationship between the sampled locations and unknown locations. The whole framework using GDF with ML methods is named GDF-ML. This framework is purely data-driven which avoids the tedious work in the scale of fluctuations(SOFs)estimating and data detrending in the conventional spatial interpolation methods. Six local mapping ML methods(extra trees(ETs), gradient boosting(GB), extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost), random forest(RF), general regression neural network(GRNN) and k-nearest neighbors(KNN)) are compared in the GDF-ML framework. The results show that the GDFs are better than the conventional XY coordinate fields based ML methods in both accuracy and spatial continuity. GDF-ML is flexible which can be applied to high-dimensional, multi-variable and incomplete datasets. Among these six methods, GDF with ET method(GDF-ET) clearly shows the best accuracy and best spatial continuity. The proposed GDF-ET method can provide a fast and accurate interpretation of the soil property profile. Sensitivity analysis shows that this method is applicable to very small training dataset size. The associated statistical uncertainty can also be quantified so that the reliability of the subsurface modeling results can be estimated objectively and explicitly.
