1Programmable time-domain digital-coding metasurface for non-linear harmonic manipulation and new wireless communication systems显示文摘Optical non-linear phenomena are typically observed in natural materials interacting with light at high intensities, and they benefit a diverse range of applications from communication to sensing. However, controlling harmonic conversion with high efficiency and flexibility remains a major issue in modern optical and radio-frequency systems. Here, we introduce a dynamic time-domain digital-coding metasurface that enables efficient manipulation of spectral harmonic distribution. By dynamically modulating the local phase of the surface reflectivity, we achieve accurate control of different harmonics in a highly programmable and dynamic fashion, enabling unusual responses, such as velocity illusion. As a relevant application, we propose and realize a novel architecture for wireless communication systems based on the time-domain digital-coding metasurface, which largely simplifies the architecture of modern communication systems, at the same time yielding excellent performance for real-time signal transmission. The presented work, from new concept to new system, opens new pathways in the application of metamaterials to practical technology.Jie Zhao Xi Yang Jun Yan Dai Qiang Cheng Xiang Li Ning Hua Qi Jun Chen Ke Guo Dong Bai Shuo Liu Shi Jin Andrea Alù Tie Jun Cui 2019National Science Review2019,6,2:46
2Chinese herbal medicine reduces mortality in patients with severe and critical coronavirus disease 2019: a retrospective cohort study显示文摘This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine(CHM)in patients with severe/critical coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).In this retrospective study, data were collected from 662 patients with severe/critical COVID-19 who were admitted to a designated hospital to treat patients with severe COVID-19 in Wuhan before March 20,2020.All patients were divided into an exposed group(CHM users)and a control group(non-users).After propensity score matching in a 1:1 ratio,156 CHM users were matched by propensity score to 156 non-users.No significant differences in seven baseline clinical variables were found between the two groups of patients.All-cause mortality was reported in 13 CHM users who died and 36 non-users who died. After multivariate adjustment, the mortality risk of CHM users was reduced by 82.2%(odds ratio 0.178,95%CI 0.076–0.418;P<0.001)compared with the non-users.Secondly,age(odds ratio 1.053,95%CI 1.023–1.084;P<0.001)and the proportion of severe/critical patients(odds ratio 0.063,95%CI 0.028–0.143;P<0.001)were the risk factors of mortality. These results show that the use of CHM may reduce the mortality of patients with severe/critical COVID-19.Guohua Chen Wen Su Jiayao Yang Dan Luo Ping Xia Wen Jia Xiuyang Li Chuan Wang Suping Lang Qingbin Meng Ying Zhang Yuhe Ke An Fan Shuo Yang Yujiao Zheng Xuepeng Fan Jie Qiao Fengmei Lian Li Wei Xiaolin Tong 2020Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,6:10
3Pain threshold, anxiety and other factors affect intensity of postoperative pain in gastric cancer patients: A prospective cohort study显示文摘Objective: This prospective cohort study explored factors related to postoperative pain in gastric cancer patients. Methods: A total of 236 patients who underwent gastrectomy were enrolled. All patients enrolled in the study completed the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS) questionnaire and Life Orientation Test-Revised(LOT-R) questionnaire on the day before surgery. Heat pain threshold(HPT), cold pain threshold(CPT) and pressure pain threshold(PPT) were measured for all patients one day prior to surgery and demographic details were collected. All patients were connected to a patient-controlled intravenous analgesia(PCIA) pump at the end of the surgery. The occurrence of postoperative pain was used as a dependent variable, and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to screen for factors affecting postoperative pain. Results: In total, 83 patients(35.2%) had postoperative pain. Body mass index(BMI) ≥28 kg/m^(2) [odds ratio(OR): 2.67;95% confidence interval(95% CI): 1.07-6.67], total gastrectomy(OR: 2.64;95% CI: 1.42-4.91),preoperative anxiety score ≥8(OR: 2.37;95% CI: 1.12-5.02), heat pain threshold ≤4.9 s(OR: 2.14;95% CI:1.06-4.32), pressure pain threshold ≤4 g(OR: 2.05;95% CI: 1.05-4.03), and female gender(OR: 1.99;95% CI:1.04-3.83) were risk factors for postoperative pain. Conclusions: Obesity, wide range of gastrectomy, high preoperative anxiety, low HPT and PPT, and female gender are associated with increased risk for postoperative pain.Hongyu Tan Jin Wei Shuo Li Ling Yu Hongwei Sun Ke Ji Yinkui Wang Changlong Li 2021Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2021,33,3:5
4OsbZIP60-mediated unfolded protein response regulates grain chalkiness in rice显示文摘Grain chalkiness,an undesirable trait caused by complex factors, has great negative impacts on the quality and economic value of rice. However, little is known about the regulatory mechanism of grain chalkiness, particularly the effect of endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress. Here,a genome-wide association study(GWAS)reveals that the transcription factor Osb ZIP60 is a vital regulator of rice grain chalkiness.Genetic analysis demonstrates that knockout of Osb ZIP60 results in extremely high grain chalkiness and aberrant structure of storage substances.Notably, the expression of unfolded protein response(UPR)genes, such as OsbZIP50,Os Bi P1,Os Bi P2 and Os Bi P3,is up-regulated in the endosperm cells of osbzip60,and overexpression of all these UPR genes causes various degrees of chalkiness.Furthermore,Osb ZIP60 is found to activate the expression of key genes related to grain chalkiness, such as GPA3,FSE1,FLO7,Chalk5,Os NF-YB1,and Os PK2,whose expression is significantly suppressed in osbzip60 and overexpression lines of Osb ZIP50,Os Bi P1,Os Bi P2,and Os Bi P3.Our study provides novel insights into the function of Osb ZIP60 and the role of the UPR pathway in the formation of grain chalkiness in rice.Weiping Yang Pengkun Xu Juncheng Zhang Shuo Zhang Zhenwei Li Ke Yang Xinyuan Chang Yibo Li 2022Journal of Genetics and Genomics2022,49,5:4
5Biodegradation Behavior of Coated As-Extruded Mg–Sr Alloy in Simulated Body Fluid显示文摘As-extruded Mg-Sr alloy, a kind of promising biodegradable biomedical material, was coated using micro-arc oxidation and also using a phosphate conversion coating. The corrosion behaviors were investigated using Hanks' solution. The corrosion of the as-extruded Mg-Sr alloy became more serious with increasing immersion time;that is, the corrosion pits became more numerous, larger and deeper, The micro-arc oxidation coating and the phosphate conversion coating were effective in improving the corrosion resistance of the as-extruded Mg-Sr alloy. The micro-arc oxidation coating was much more effective. Moreover, the as-extruded Mg-Sr alloy and the coated as-extruded Mg-Sr alloy exhibited lower corrosion rates than the as-cast Mg-Sr alloy and the corresponding coated as-cast Mg-Sr alloy, indicating that the corrosion properties of the coated samples are dependent on their substrates. The finer microstructure of the substrate of the as-extruded condition corroded much slower. The corrosion resistance of the coated Mg-Sr alloy depended on the coating itself and on the microstructure of the substrate.Ming-Chun Zhao Ying-Chao Zhao Deng-Feng Yin Shuo Wang Yong-Ming Shangguan Chao Liu Li-Li Tan Ci-Jun Shuai Ke Yang Andrej Atrens 2019Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2019,32,10:2
63D printed fiber-optic nanomechanical bioprobe显示文摘Ultrasensitive nanomechanical instruments,e.g.atomic force microscopy(AFM),can be used to perform delicate biomechanical measurements and reveal the complex mechanical environment of biological processes. However, these instruments are limited because of their size and complex feedback system. In this study,we demonstrate a miniature fiber optical nanomechanical probe(FONP)that can be used to detect the mechanical properties of single cells and in vivo tissue measurements.A FONP that can operate in air and in liquids was developed by programming a microcantilever probe on the end face of a single-mode fiber using femtosecond laser two-photon polymerization nanolithography. To realize stiffness matching of the FONP and sample,a strategy of customizing the microcantilever’s spring constant according to the sample was proposed based on structure-correlated mechanics. As a proof-of concept, three FONPs with spring constants varying from 0.421 N m^(−1)to 52.6 N m^(−1)by more than two orders of magnitude were prepared. The highest microforce sensitivity was 54.5 nmμN^(−1)and the detection limit was 2.1 nN.The Young’s modulus of heterogeneous soft materials, such as polydimethylsiloxane, muscle tissue of living mice, onion cells, and MCF-7 cells, were successfully measured, which validating the broad applicability of this method. Our strategy provides a universal protocol for directly programming fiber-optic AFMs.Moreover, this method has no special requirements for the size and shape of living biological samples, which is infeasible when using commercial AFMs.FONP has made substantial progress in realizing basic biological discoveries, which may create new biomedical applications that cannot be realized by current AFMs.Mengqiang Zou Changrui Liao Yanping Chen Lei Xu Shuo Tang Gaixia Xu Ke Ma Jiangtao Zhou Zhihao Cai Bozhe Li Cong Zhao Zhourui Xu Yuanyuan Shen Shen Liu Ying Wang Zongsong Gan Hao Wang Xuming Zhang Sandor Kasas Yiping Wang 2023International Journal of Extreme Manufacturing2023,5,1:1
7Achieving highest Young’s modulus in Al-Li by tracing the size and bonding evolution of Li-rich precipitates显示文摘For decades,it has been well accepted that every 1 wt.%Li addition to Al will reduce Al alloy’s density by 3%and increase its Young’s modulus by 6%.However,the fundamental mechanism of modulus improve-ments stays controversial though all studies agreed that the contribution of such a substantial boosting comes from Li-rich clusters either in solid solution or precipitations. In this study,we experimentally produce nano-sized Li-rich clusters by non-equilibrium solidification using centrifugal casting and trace their evolutions as a function of subsequent heat treatments.High-resolution transmission electron mi-croscopy(HRTEM)reveals a further decrease in the lattice constants of Li-rich regions from the as-cast(0.406 nm),solid solution(0.405 nm)to the aged state(0.401 nm),while Young’s modulus of the Al-Li al-loy reaches 89.16 GPa.Small-angle neutron scattering(SANS)experiments and first-principle calculations based on density functional theory have shown both the bond strength around precipitates and the size of those Li-rich region dominate Young’s modulus. At the beginning,it is volumetric compression due to Li addition that increases modulus, tightening the Al-Al potential curves. In the end,it is the Al-Al and Al-Li valence bonds in Al 3 Li at large size and high-volume fraction which increase its second derivative of internal energy and thus Young’s modulus.Chengpeng Xue Yuxuan Zhang Shuo Wang Guangyuan Tian Xinghai Yang Yubin Ke Zhenhua Xie Junsheng Wang 2023Journal of Materials Science & Technology2023,,14:1
8PML Suppresses Influenza Virus Replication by Promoting FBXW7 Expression显示文摘Influenza A viruses(IAV)are responsible for seasonal flu epidemics, which can lead to high morbidity and mortality each year.Like other viruses, influenza virus can hijack host cellular machinery for its replication.Host cells have evolved diverse cellular defense to resist the invasion of viruses. As the main components of promyelocytic leukemia protein nuclear bodies(PML-NBs),PML can inhibit the replication of many medically important viruses including IAV.However, the mechanism of PML against IAV is unclear. In the present study,we found PML was induced in response to IAV infection and ectopic expression of PML could inhibit IAV replication, whereas knockdown of endogenous PML expression could enhance IAV replication.Further studies showed that PML increased the expression of FBXW7 by inhibiting its K48-linked ubiquitination and enhanced the interaction between FBXW7 and SHP2,which negatively regulated IAV replication during infection. Moreover,PML stabilized RIG-I to promote the production of typeⅠIFN.Collectively, these data indicated that PML inhibited IAV replication by enhancing FBXW7 expression in the antiviral immunity against influenza virus and extended the mechanism of PML in antiviral immunity.Hai-Yan Yan Hui-Qiang Wang Ming Zhong Shuo Wu Lu Yang Ke Li Yu-Huan Li 2021Virologica Sinica2021,36,5:1
9Kinetic Monte Carlo code development and application on the formation of hydrogen-vacancy clusters in tungsten显示文摘We have developed an object kinetic Monte Carlo(OKMC)code and simulated hydrogen-vacancy clustering behavior and dependence on temperature and hydrogen-vacancy ratio in tungsten. For each of the temperatures we simulated from 300 K to1000 K,H_nV clusters with smaller n form before those with larger n.The elevating temperature leads to a decrease in hydrogen vacancies:H_(10)V and H_9V clusters dominate at 300 K and 600 K,whereas H_5V,H_6V,and H_7V clusters dominate when the temperature reaches 1000 K.Furthermore, only H_nV clusters with smaller n formed when a lower hydrogen-vacancy ratio was used due to insufficient availability of hydrogen atoms to occupy vacancies. The results suggest hydrogen emission occurs very rarely at lower temperatures, while higher temperatures facilitate the dissociation of hydrogen from H_nV clusters.Chao Meng JianNan Hao Ke Xu Li-Fang Wang XiaoLin Shu Shuo Jin Guang-Hong Lu 2019Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2019,62,1:1
10Largely Improved Stretch Ductility and β-Form Room-temperature Durability of Poly(vinylidene fluoride) by Incorporating Aliphatic Polyketone显示文摘In this study, we attempt to prepare a new blending system of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and aliphatic polyketone (POK) by melt compounding. The latter is a promising engineering plastic with comprehensive mechanical performances. When POK acted as minor phase to homogeneously disperse in and intimately contact with PVDF matrix, the brittle tensile behavior of neat PVDF transferred into a remarkably flexible manner (the elongation at break increased for 20 times), and more interestingly, the roomtemperature durability of β-form PVDF in the uniaxially drawn blend film was obviously better than that in the neat PVDF film. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed that specific dipole interaction existed between CF_2 group of PVDF and C=O group of POK.The intermolecular dipolar interaction induced good compatibility in the PVDF/POK blends, as evidently proved by fine two-phase morphology and decreased melting points of POK crystals. Therefore, the good compatibility and interfacial enhancement are responsible for the improvement of the stretch ductility and β-form room-temperature durability of the PVDF/POK blends.Shui-Qin Pu Shuo Guo Ke Wang Qiang Fu 2018Chinese Journal of Polymer Science2018,36,11:1
11Anisotropic interaction between self-interstitial atoms and 1/2<111> dislocation loops in tungsten显示文摘We investigate the interaction between <111> self-interstitial atoms(SIAs) and 1/2<111> self-interstitial dislocation loops in tungsten(W) via atomistic simulations. We explore the variation of the anisotropic distribution of binding energies with the shapes and sizes of the 1/2[111] loop and the nonequivalent configurations of <111> SIAs. For an arbitrarily shaped loop, SIA can be more easily trapped in the concave region of the loop than the convex region, which forms a loop whose curvature is closer to that of a circular loop. The direction of SIAs can largely affect the interaction behaviors with the loop. The capture distance of an SIA by the edge of a circular-shaped 1/2[111] loop is clearly elongated along the direction of the SIA;however, it weakly depends on the size of the loop. Then, we analyze the slanted ring-like capture volume of <111> SIAs formed by the circular loop based on their generated anisotropic stress fields. Furthermore, the binding energies obtained from the elastic theory and atomistic simulations are compared. The results provide a reasonable interpretation of the growth mechanism of the loop and the anisotropic interaction that induces irregular-shaped capture volume, affording an insight into the numerical and Object Kinetic Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate the long-term and large-scale microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of W.Hao Wang Ke Xu Dong Wang Ning Gao Yu-Hao Li Shuo Jin XiaoLin Shu LinYun Liang Guang-Hong Lu 2021Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2021,64,5:0

15Integrating pore architectures to evaluate vascularization efficacy in silicate-based bioceramic scaffolds显示文摘Pore architecture in bioceramic scaffolds plays an important role in facilitating vascularization efficiency during bone repair or orbital reconstruction. Many investigations have explored this relationship but lack integrating pore architectural features in a scaffold, hindering optimization of architectural parameters(geometry, size and curvature)to improve vascularization and consequently clinical outcomes. To address this challenge,we have developed an integrating design strategy to fabricate different pore architectures(cube, gyroid and hexagon)with different pore dimensions(-350,500 and 650 lm)in the silicate-based bioceramic scaffolds via digital light processing technique. The sintered scaffolds maintained high-fidelity pore architectures similar to the printing model. The hexagon-and gyroid-pore scaffolds exhibited the highest and lowest compressive strength(from 15 to 55MPa),respectively,but the cube-pore scaffolds showed appreciable elastic modulus. Moreover, the gyroid-pore architecture contributed on a faster ion dissolution and mass decay in vitro. It is interesting that bothμCT and histological analyses indicate vascularization efficiency was challenged even in the 650-μm pore region of hexagon-pore scaffolds within 2weeks in rabbit models, but the gyroid-pore constructs indicated appreciable blood vessel networks even in the 350-μm pore region at 2weeks and high-density blood vessels were uniformly invaded in the 500-and 650-μm pore at 4weeks.Angiogenesis was facilitated in the cube-pore scaffolds in comparison with the hexagon-pore ones within 4weeks.These studies demonstrate that the continuous pore wall curvature feature in gyroid-pore architecture is an important implication for biodegradation, vascular cell migration and vessel ingrowth in porous bioceramic scaffolds.Fanghui Wu Jun Yang Xiurong Ke Shuo Ye Zhaonan Bao Xianyan Yang Cheng Zhong Miaoda Shen Sanzhong Xu Lei Zhang Zhongru Gou Guojing Yang 2022Regenerative Biomaterials2022,9,1:0
16Paired quasi-periodic pulsations of hard X-ray emission in a solar flare显示文摘We investigate high time resolution data obtained by the Gravitational wave high-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor(GECAM)during the flare event on 2022 April 21 at 01:52 UT.Several subpeaks with durations of 4-6 s have been detected in the hard X-ray precursor phase, and the key feature is that they appear in pairs and seem like double-peak struc-tures.These subpeaks are rarely observed in hard X-ray band and confirmed by the microwave obtained by Nobeyama Radio Polarimeters(NoRP)and Radio Solar Telescope Network(RSTN).While an exponential function can describe the continuum component of the time profile from the precursor to part of the impulsive phase. The periods of quasi-periodic pulsations(QPPs)are detected to be about 7.3 and 12.8 s for the precursor and impulsive phase, respectively, with at least 95%confidence level. The paired QPPs are assumed to be double-peak QPPs and then the scenario of current loop coalescence model is found to be in good agreement with our observation. The precursor phase can be interpreted as the oscillating coalescence of two islands, while the impulsive phase can be interpreted as more islands to coalesce one by one to form larger islands.Hai-Sheng Zhao Dong Li Shao-Lin Xiong Yan-Qiu Zhang Yang Su Wei Chen Yi Zhao Xiao-Bo Li Jia-Cong Liu Wen-Xi Peng Rui Qiao Xin-Qiao Li Xiang-Yang Wen Li-Ming Song Shi-Jie Zheng Xin-Ying Song Xiao-Yun Zhao Yue Huang Shuang-Nan Zhang Shuo Xiao Ce Cai Zheng-Hua An Can Chen Gang Chen Wei Chen Yan-Qi Du Min Gao Ke Gong Dong-Ya Guo Zhi-Wei Guo Jian-Jian He Bin Li Chao Li Chao-Yang Li Gang Li Jian-Hui Li Lu Li Qing-Xin Li Yan-Guo Li Jing Liang Xiao-Hua Liang Jin-Yuan Liao Xiao-Jing Liu Ya-Qing Liu Qi Luo Xiang Ma Bin Meng Ge Ou Dong-Li Shi Jing-Yan Shi Gong-Xing Sun Xi-Lei Sun You-Li Tuo Chen-Wei Wang Hui Wang Jin Wang Jin-Zhou Wang Ping Wang Wen-Shuai Wang Hong Wu Sheng-Lun Xie Yan-Bing Xu Yu-Peng Xu Wang-Chen Xue Sheng Yang Min Yao Jian-Ying Ye Qi-Bin Yi Chao-Yue Zhang Da-Li Zhang Fan Zhang Fei Zhang Hong-Mei Zhang Kai Zhang Peng Zhang Xiao-Lu Zhang Zhen Zhang Guo-Ying Zhao Shi-Yi Zhao Chao Zheng Xing Zhou Yue Zhu 2023Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2023,66,5:0

20Nanomedicine in the application of uveal melanoma显示文摘Rapid advances in nanomedicine have significantly changed many aspects of nanoparticle application to the eye including areas of diagnosis, imaging and more importantly drug delivery. The nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems has provided a solution to various drug solubility-related problems in ophthalmology treatment.Nanostructured compounds could be used to achieve local ocular delivery with minimal unwanted systematic side effects produced by taking advantage of the phagocyte system. In addition, the in vivo control release by nanomaterials encapsulated drugs provides prolong exposure of the compound in the body. Furthermore, certain nanoparticles can overcome important body barriers including the blood-retinal barrier as well as the corneal-retinal barrier of the eye for effective delivery of the drug.
