| 1 | The crustal structures of the central Longmenshan along and its margins as related to the seismotectonics of the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake显示文摘In 2010,a 500-km-long wide-angle reflection/refraction seismic profile was completed,running northwest from the central Sichuan Basin.This profile orthogonally crosses the meizoseismal area of great Wenchuan earthquake of 12 May 2008,which occurred in the central part of the Longmenshan.The profile also passes through the northwestern Sichuan Plateau,along which a new deep seismic sounding observation system was set up that was much improved over previous datasets and enabled abundant observations to be recorded.Seismic wave phase records that reflect the structural characteristics of different tectonic blocks,especially the complicated phase features associated with the Wenchuan earthquake,were calculated and analyzed in detail.A 2D crustal P-wave velocity model for the orogenic belt in the central Longmenshan and its margins was determined,and crustal structure differences between the stable Sichuan Basin and the thickened northwestern Sichuan Plateau were characterized.Lithological variations within the upper and lower crust in the interior of the plateau,especially a great velocity decrease and plastic rheological properties associated with strong lithologic weakening in lower crust,were detected.From west to east in the lower crust beneath the orogenic belt lying between the Sichuan Basin and the northwestern Sichuan Plateau,a giant shovel-like upwelling is observed that dips gently in the lower part and at higher angles in the upper part;this is inferred to be related to the fault systems in the central Longmenshan.An upwelling in the upper-middle crust along the eastern margin of the orogenic belt is associated with steeply dipping thrusts that strongly uplift the upper crust and crystalline basement beneath a central fault system in the Longmenshan.The data,combined with an understanding of the regional tectonic stress field and previous geological results,enable a discussion of basin-and-range coupling,orogenic tectonics,the crustal fault system,and the seismogenic tectonic environment of the central Longmenshan along the eastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. | JIA ShiXu LIU BaoJin XU ZhaoFan LIU Zhi FENG ShaoYing ZHANG JianShi LIN JieYan TIAN XiaoFeng LIU QiaoXia GUO WenBin | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,4: | 26 |

| 4 | Spatial distribution and focal mechanism solutions of the Wenchuan earthquake series:Results and implications显示文摘We relocate the spatial distribution of the devastating 12 May 2008 Wenchuan earthquake and its aftershocks.The relocation database is obtained from 89 stations deployed by the China Earthquake Administration,including 54 525 seismograms from 1 376 local earthquakes over MS3.5 between 12 May 2008 and 3 August 2008.The cross-correlation technique used in this paper has greatly improved the relocation precision by giving much more accurate P-wave differential travel-time measurements than those obtained from routinely picked phase onsets.At the same time,we pick P-wave polarity observations of the Wenchuan earthquake series (hereafter referred to as WES) from 1 023 stations in China and 59 IRIS (Incorporated Research Institutions of Seismology) stations.Then,employing a newly developed program CHNYTX,we obtain 83 well-determined focal mechanism solutions (hereafter referred to as FMSs).Based on spatial distribution and FMSs of the WES,we draw following conclusions:(1) The region near the main shock exhibits a buried low-angle northwest-dipping seismic zone with the main shock at its upper end and two conjugated seismic zones dipping southeast with roughly equal dip-angle;(2) The compressional directions of all kinds of FMSs of the WES are subhorizontal,which reflects the dominant stress in this area is compressional;(3) The principal compressional direction of the regional stress around Wenchuan is roughly perpendicular to the strike of Beichuan-Yingxiu fault,while around Qingchuan it is roughly parallel to the strike of Qingchuan fault.In intermediate part of the Longmenshan area,the principal compressional direction of the stress should be in-between;(4) The possibly existed molten materials in the lower crust of Songpan-Garze terrain have small contribution to the local stress state in Longmenshan area.The listric geometries of the Longmenshan faults most probably resulted from subhorizontal compression along NW-SE direction in history. | Chen Cai Chunquan Yu Kai Tao Xingping Hu Yuan Tian Hao Zhang Xiaofeng Cui Jieyuan Ning | 2011 | Earthquake Science2011,24,1: | 13 |
| 5 | Self-aggregation of vapor-liquid phase transition显示文摘The concept of the molecular free path is introduced to derive a criterion distinguishing active molecules from inactive molecules in liquid phase. Based on molecular self-aggregation theory a concept of the critical aggregation concentration (CAC) of active molecules is proposed to describe the physical configuration before the formation of the nuclei in the process of vapor-liquid phase transition. All active molecules exist in the form of the monomer when the concentration of active molecules is lower than CAC, while the active molecules will generate aggregation once the concentration of the active molecules reaches CAC. However, these aggregates with the aggregation number N smaller than 5 can steadily exist in bulk phase. The other excess active molecules can only produce infinite aggregation and form a critical nucleus of vapor-liquid phase transition. Without outer perturbation the state point of CAC corresponds to the critical superheated or supercooled state in the process of vapor-liquid phase transition. | 7 | Ultrasound features of extranodal extension in the metastatic cervical lymph nodes of papillary thyroid cancer:a case-control study显示文摘Objective:Extranodal extension in cervical lymph nodes is an important risk factor for the progression and prognosis of papillary thyroid cancer.The purpose of this study was to identify the common and characteristic preoperative ultrasonography features that are associated with the pathologic extranodal extension of metastatic papillary thyroid carcinoma.Methods:We retrospectively assessed and compared clinicopathologic and ultrasound features between 60 papillary thyroid cancer patients with extranodal extension and 120 control patients with papillary thyroid cancer without extranodal extension.Results:With respect to the pathological N stage and clinicopathologic features,N1b stage papillary thyroid carcinomas were more frequently found in patients who were extranodal extension-positive,in comparison with those who were extranodal extension-negative(78.3%vs.63.3%,P=0.043).Extranodal extension was detected most frequently in level VI cervical lymph nodes(48.7%).In our univariate analysis of patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma,cervical lymph nodes with extranodal extension showed higher incidences of node matting,microcalcification,cystic area,aspect ratio<2,and larger diameter than those without extranodal extension(all P<0.05).Our multivariate analysis demonstrated that node matting and cystic area were independent risk factors for the presence of extranodal extension[odds ratio(OR):4.751,95%confidence interval(CI):1.212~18.626,P=0.025;OR:2.707,95%CI:1.127~6.502,P=0.026].Conclusions:Common ultrasound features may indicate the presence of extranodal extension in patients with metastatic cervical lymph nodes of papillary thyroid carcinoma. | Jiali Mu Xiaofeng Liang Fangxuan Li Juntian Liu Sheng Zhang Jing Tian | 2018 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2018,15,2: | 7 |
| 8 | Global methane and nitrous oxide emissions from terrestrial ecosystems due to multiple environmental changes显示文摘Greenhouse gas(GHG)-induced climate change is among the most pressing sustainability challenges facing humanity today,posing serious risks for ecosystem health.Methane(CH_(4))and nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)are the two most important GHGs after carbon dioxide(CO_(2)),but their regional and global budgets are not well known.In this study,we applied a process-based coupled biogeochemical model to concurrently estimate the magnitude and spatial and temporal patterns of CH_(4)and N_(2)O fluxes as driven by multiple environmental changes,including climate variability,rising atmospheric CO_(2),increasing nitrogen deposition,tropospheric ozone pollution,land use change,and nitrogen fertilizer use.The estimated CH_(4)and N_(2)O emissions from global land ecosystems during 1981-2010 were 144.39±12.90 Tg C/yr(mean 62 SE;1 Tg=1012 g)and 12.52±0.74 Tg N/yr,respectively.Our simulations indicated a significant(P,0.01)annually increasing trend for CH_(4)(0.43±0.06 Tg C/yr)and N_(2)O(0.14±0.02 Tg N/yr)in the study period.CH_(4)and N_(2)O emissions increased significantly in most climatic zones and continents,especially in the tropical regions and Asia.The most rapid increase in CH_(4)emission was found in natural wetlands and rice fields due to increased rice cultivation area and climate warming.N_(2)O emission increased substantially in all the biome types and the largest increase occurred in upland crops due to increasing air temperature and nitrogen fertilizer use.Clearly,the three major GHGs(CH_(4),N_(2)O,and CO_(2))should be simultaneously considered when evaluating if a policy is effective to mitigate climate change. | Hanqin Tian Guangsheng Chen Chaoqun Lu Xiaofeng Xu Wei Ren Bowen Zhang Kamaljit Banger Bo Tao Shufen Pan Mingliang Liu Chi Zhang Lori Bruhwiler Steven Wofsy | 2015 | Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2015,1,1: | 7 |
| 9 | LncRNA DPP10-AS1 promotes malignant processes through epigenetically activating its cognate gene DPP10 and predicts poor prognosis in lung cancer patients显示文摘Objective:The purpose of this study was to explore the function and gene expression regulation of the newly identified lnc RNA DPP10-AS1 in lung cancer,and its potential value as a prognostic biomarker.Methods:q RT-PCR and Western blot were conducted to detect the expression of DDP10-AS1 and DPP10 in lung cancer cell lines and tissues.The effects of DDP10-AS1 on DPP10 expression,cell growth,invasion,apoptosis,and in vivo tumor growth were investigated in lung cancer cells by Western blot,rescue experiments,colony formation,flow cytometry,and xenograft animal experiments.Results:The novel antisense lnc RNA DPP10-AS1 was found to be highly expressed in cancer tissues(P<0.0001),and its upregulation predicted poor prognosis in patients with lung cancer(P=0.0025).Notably,DPP10-AS1 promoted lung cancer cell growth,colony formation,and cell cycle progression,and repressed apoptosis in lung cancer cells by upregulating DPP10 expression.Additionally,DPP10-AS1 facilitated lung tumor growth via upregulation of DPP10 protein in a xenograft mouse model.Importantly,DPP10-AS1 positively regulated DPP10 gene expression,and both were coordinately upregulated in lung cancer tissues.Mechanically,DPP10-AS1 was found to associate with DPP10 m RNA but did not enhance DPP10 m RNA stability.Hypomethylation of DPP10-AS1 and DPP10 contributed to their coordinate upregulation in lung cancer.Conclusions:These findings indicated that the upregulation of the antisense lnc RNA DPP10-AS1 promotes lung cancer malignant processes and facilitates tumorigenesis by epigenetically regulating its cognate sense gene DPP10.DPP10-AS1 may serve as a candidate prognostic biomarker and a potential therapeutic target in lung cancer. | Haihua Tian Jinchang Pan Shuai Fang Chengwei Zhou Hui Tian Jinxian He Weiyu Shen Xiaodan Meng Xiaofeng Jin Zhaohui Gong | 2021 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2021,18,3: | 5 |
| 10 | A Method for Crude Oil Selection and Blending Optimization Based on Improved Cuckoo Search Algorithm显示文摘Refineries often need to find similar crude oil to replace the scarce crude oil for stabilizing the feedstock property. We introduced the method for calculation of crude blended properties firstly, and then created a crude oil selection and blending optimization model based on the data of crude oil property. The model is a mixed-integer nonlinear programming(MINLP) with constraints, and the target is to maximize the similarity between the blended crude oil and the objective crude oil. Furthermore, the model takes into account the selection of crude oils and their blending ratios simultaneously, and transforms the problem of looking for similar crude oil into the crude oil selection and blending optimization problem. We applied the Improved Cuckoo Search(ICS) algorithm to solving the model. Through the simulations, ICS was compared with the genetic algorithm, the particle swarm optimization algorithm and the CPLEX solver. The results show that ICS has very good optimization efficiency. The blending solution can provide a reference for refineries to find the similar crude oil. | 12 | Effect of Swirl Cup's Secondary Swirler on Flow Field and Ignition Performance显示文摘In a gas turbine engine combustor, highly swirling combustion is usually adopted to stabilize flame and reduce pollutant emissions. Swirl cup, as an air blast atomizer, is widely used to provide a uniform presentation of fuel droplets to the combustor dome. This paper investigated the effect of secondary swirler on the flow field downstream of the swirl cup using particle image velocimetry(PIV). Three swirl cups' non-reacting flow field were studied: case A, B and C with secondary swirler vane angle 53°, 60°and 68° respectively. Detailed mean and transient velocities and vorticity in the center plane were obtained. From the PIV results, a sharp contrast flow field was obtained for case A to other two cases due to the lower secondary swirling intensity. The recirculation zone is collapsed in disorder for the case A. Ignition tests of the three cups were completed in a single cup combustor. In general, the ignition performance increases with the increasing of the secondary swirling intensity. For case A, the ignition performance is very unstable and has much randomness and there is no clear lean ignition boundary can be generated. | 13 | Crustal P-wave velocity structure in the northeastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and insights into crustal deformation显示文摘The transitional area between the northeastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, Ordos Block and Alxa Block,also being the northern segment of the North-South Seismic Belt, is characterized by considerably high seismicity level and high risk of strong earthquakes. In view of the special tectonic environment and deep tectonic setting in this area, this study used two seismic wide-angle reflection/refraction cross profiles for double constraining, so as to more reliably obtain the fine-scale velocity structure characteristics in both the shallow and deep crust of individual blocks and their boundaries in the study area,and further discuss the seismogenic environment in seismic zones with strong historical earthquakes. In this paper, the P-wave data from the two profiles are processed and interpreted, and two-dimensional crustal velocity structure models along the two profiles are constructed by travel time forward modeling. The results show that there are great differences in velocity structure,shape of intra-crustal interfaces and crustal thickness among different blocks sampled by the two seismic profiles. The crustal thickness along the Lanzhou-Huianbu-Yulin seismic sounding profile(L1) increases from ~43 km in the western margin of Ordos Block to ~56 km in the Qilian Block to the west. In the Ordos Block, the velocity contours vary gently, and the average velocity of the crust is about 6.30 km s-1; On the other hand, the velocity structures in the crust of the Qilian Block and the arclike tectonic zone vary dramatically, and the average crustal velocities in these areas are about 0.10 km s-1 lower than that of the Ordos Block. In addition, discontinuous low-velocity bodies(LVZ1 and LVZ2) are identified in the crust of the Qilian Block and the arc-like tectonic zone, the velocity of which is 0.10–0.20 km s-1 lower than that of the surroundings. The average crustal thickness of the Ordos Block is consistently estimated to be around 43 km along both Profile L2(Tongchuan-Huianbu-Alashan left banner seismic sounding profile) and Profile L1. In contrast to the gently varying intra-crustal interfaces and velocity contours in the Ordos Block along Profile L1, which is a typical structure characteristic of stable cratons, the crustal structure in the Ordos Block along Profile L2 exhibits rather complex variations. This indicates the presence of significant structural differences in the crust within the Ordos Block. The crustal structure of the Helan Mountain Qilian Block and the Yinchuan Basin is featured by 'uplift and depression' undulations, showing the characteristics of localized compressional deformation.Moreover, there are low-velocity zones with alternative high and low velocities in the middle and lower crust beneath the Helan Mountain, where the velocity is about 0.15–0.25 km s-1 lower than that of the surrounding areas. The crustal thickness of the Alxa Block is about 49 km, and the velocity contours in the upper and middle-lower crust of the block vary significantly. The complex crustal velocity structure images along the two seismic sounding profiles L1 and L2 reveal considerable structural differences among different tectonic blocks, their coupling relationships and velocity structural features in the seismic zones where strong historical earthquakes occurred. | 14 | Shallow velocity structure of the Luoyang basin derived from dense array observations of urban ambient noise显示文摘Determining the shallow structure of a sediment basin is important when evaluating potential seismic hazards given that such basins can significantly amplify seismic energy. The Luoyang basin is located in the western He'nan uplift and is a Meso-Cenozoic depression basin. To characterize the shallow structure of the basin, we develop a model of the shallow high-resolution three-dimensional(3D)shear-wave velocity structure of the basin by applying ambient noise tomography to a dense array of 107 portable digital seismometers deployed over the basin. More than 1,400 Rayleigh-wave dispersion curves for periods in the range 0.5–5 s are extracted. The 3D variations of shear-wave velocity in the shallow crust are inverted using a direct surface-wave tomographic method with period-dependent ray tracing, with all the surface-wave group-velocity dispersion data being inverted simultaneously. The results show that in the shallow crust of the study area, the velocity distribution corresponds to surface geology and geological features. The Luoyang basin exhibits a low shear-wave velocity feature that is consistent with the distribution of sediment in the region,while the Xiongershan and Songshan uplifts exhibit higher shear-wave velocity structures. | 15 | Comparison of diagnostic accuracy between ^(18)F-FDG PET and PET/CT for pulmonary neoplasm显示文摘Aimed at comparing diagnostic accuracy of 18F-FDG PET with PET/CT for pulmonary neoplasm, a study based on multi-center clinical trial of the diagnoses, in randomized and semi-blind ways, was executed from January 2006 to June 2007. It included 55 patients, i.e. 16 with histopathologically proved lung tumors, 16 with tuberculosis and 23 with benign lesions (inflammation, pseudotumor, granuloma, fibrosis and others). The histopathologic and clinic results were served as reference standard. Statistical significances in pulmonary nodule diagnosis between 18F-FDG PET and PET/CT were determined with 95% confidence interval obtained by ROC analysis. The 18F-FDG PET detected lung neoplasm with a sensitivity of 87.5% (14/16), a specificity of 59.0% (23/39), an accuracy of 67.3% (37/55) and a positive-likelihood ratio of 2.13. The 18F-FDG PET/CT detected lung neoplasm with a sensitivity of 93.8% (15/16), a specificity of 61.5% (24/39), an accuracy of 70.9% (39/55) and a positive-likelihood ratio of 2.43. | 16 | Novel nanometer scaffolds regulate the biological behaviors of neural stem cells显示文摘Ideal tissue-engineered scaffold materials regulate proliferation, apoptosis and differentiation of cells seeded on them by regulating gene expression. In this study, aligned and randomly oriented collagen nanofiber scaffolds were prepared using electronic spinning technology. Their diameters and appearance reached the standards of tissue-engineered nanometer scaffolds. The nanofiber scaffolds were characterized by a high swelling ratio, high porosity and good mechanical properties. The proliferation of spinal cord-derived neural stem cells on novel nanofiber scaffolds was obviously enhanced. The proportions of cells in the S and G 2 /M phases noticeably increased. Moreover, the proliferation rate of neural stem cells on the aligned collagen nanofiber scaffolds was high. The expression levels of cyclin D1 and cyclin-dependent kinase 2 were increased. Bcl-2 expression was significantly increased, but Bax and caspase-3 gene expressions were obviously decreased. There was no significant difference in the differentiation of neural stem cells into neurons on aligned and randomly oriented collagen nanofiber scaffolds. These results indicate that novel nanofiber scaffolds could promote the proliferation of spinal cord-derived neural stem cells and inhibit apoptosis without inducing differentiation.
