| 1 | Decreased Average Albumin-to-Globulin Ratio During Radiotherapy Worsens the Prognosis of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma:Implications for Nutritional Management显示文摘Objective Malnutrition and cachexia are common in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)patients undergoing radiotherapy.This study evaluated how malnutrition-and cachexia-related indicators,including the albumin-to-globulin ratio(AGR),and their changes during radiotherapy predict the treatment outcomes.Methods We reviewed a total of 172 ESCC patients receiving radiotherapy(as a primary cohort)and performed a Cox regression analysis on potential prognostic factors,including the AGR,as well as the TNM stage and concomitant chemotherapy.A subsequent receiver operating characteristics(ROC)curve and Kaplan Meier survival analysis was performed for ESCC patients stratified by the average AGR cut-off point.Results In addition to the well-documented factors(i.e.TNM stage and concomitant chemotherapy),the average AGR was a significant prognostic factor for ESCC patients receiving radiotherapy.By plotting the ROC curve of the average AGR with regard to the ESCC prognosis,we obtained cut-off points for the overall patients(cut-off point:1.5,AUC:0.636),for patients with stageⅡ/Ⅲdisease(cut-off point:1.5,AUC:0.611),and for patients with stageⅣdisease(cut-off point:1.84,AUC:0.900).The ESCC patients with higher average AGR had a significantly more favorable OS compared with those with a lower average AGR.Notably,ESCC patients who had an increasingΔAGR during radiotherapy had a considerably more favorable OS compared with those with a decreasingΔAGR.All of these findings were reproducible in the validation cohort.Conclusion A lower average AGR is indicative of a poorer prognosis for ESCC patients following radiotherapy.Improving the nutritional status and preventing or ameliorating cachexia might contribute to improving the prognosis of ESCC patients. | Fen Cai Xiu Lian Zhang Xiao Ling Wu Ting Ting Zhuang Lei Huang Yi Fei Tu Yuan Yuan Lu Min Xia Jiang Qing Ying Zhang Yan Lin Chang Chun Ma | 2021 | Journal of Nutritional Oncology2021,6,2: | 8 |
| 2 | Enantioselective separation and zebrafish embryo toxicity of insecticide beta-cypermethrin显示文摘Enantioselectivity of chiral pollutants is receiving growing concern due to the difference in toxicology and environment fate between enantiomers.In this study,enantiomers of insecticide beta-cypermethrin (beta-CP) were separated on selected chiral column by HPLC,and the toxicity of enantiomers was evaluated using the zebrafish embryo-larval assays.The enantiomers of beta-CP were baseline separated on Chiralcel OD and Chiralpak AD columns and detected by circular dichroism (CD) at 236 nm.Better separation could be achieved at lower temperature (e.g.,20°C) and with lower levels of polar modifiers.Pure enantiomers were obtained on Chiralcel OD.The CD spectra of enantiomers were recorded.By comparing the elution order with a previous similar study,the absolute configuration of beta-CP enantiomers was determined.The individual enantiomers were used in zebrafish embryo test,and the results showed that beta-CP enantioselectively induced yolk sac edema,pericardial edema and crooked body.The 1R-cis-αS and 1R-trans-αS enantiomers showed strong developmental toxicities at concentration of 0.1 mg/L,while the 1S-cis-αR and 1S-trans-αR induced no malformations at higher concentration (e.g.,0.3 mg/L).The results suggest that the enantioselective toxicological effects of beta-CP should be considered when evaluating its ecotoxicological effects. | Chao Xu,Wenqing Tu,Chun Lou,Yingying Hong,Meirong Zhao Research Center of Environmental Science,College of Biological and Environmental Engineering,Zhejiang University of Technology,Hangzhou 310032,China. | 2010 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,5: | 8 |
| 3 | Morphologies of Al_4Sr Intermetallic Phase and Its Modification Property upon A356 Alloys显示文摘In general,the modification performance of Al-Sr master alloys is primarily dependent upon the morphologies and sizes of the Al_4Sr intermetallic phase.In this paper,the crystal structure,morphologies,sizes,hardness and elastic modulus of Al_4Sr in Al-Sr master alloys prepared from variant processes were studied by means of optical metallurgical microscope,X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and nanoindentation system.The results revealed that the microstructures and modification performance of the Al_4Sr phase were related to the preparation processes.That is to say,when a 'direct reaction-hot extrusion' process was used,the Al_4Sr phase exhibited a homogeneous distribution in the Al matrix with small size and roundish shapes,which ensured the Al-Sr master alloy wire advantages involving high recovery,good reproducibility,no delitescence of modification,no corrosion on equipments,and good workability.However,in the case of the traditional 'direct reaction' process,the Al4Sr phase was in large size with shapes of rectangular stripe and plates,which limited the Sr content increasing due to the brittleness of the Al-Sr alloy.It was also found that the morphology and size of the Al_4Sr phases changed during heat treatment at high temperature up to 600 ℃. | Chengwei Liao Jianchun Chun Yang Li Rui Tu Chunxu Pan | 2012 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2012,28,6: | 7 |
| 4 | Characterization and reactivity of biogenic manganese oxides for ciprofloxacin oxidation显示文摘Biogenic manganese oxides(BioMnOx) were synthesized by the oxidation of Mn(II) with Mnoxidizing bacteria Pseudomonas sp. G7 under different initial pH values and Mn(II) dosages, and were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. The crystal structure and Mn oxidation states of BioMnOx depended on the initial pH and Mn(II) dosages of the medium. The superoxide radical(O.-2) was observed in Mn-containing(III/IV) BioMnOxsuspensions by electron spin resonance measurements. BioMnOx(0.4)-7, with mixed valence of Mn(II/III/IV) and the strongest O.-2signals, was prepared in the initial pH 7 and Mn(II) dosage of 0.4 mmol/L condition, and exhibited the highest activity for ciprofloxacin degradation and no Mn(II) release. During the degradation of ciprofloxacin, the oxidation of the Mn(II) formed came from biotic and abiotic reactions in BioMnOx suspensions on the basis of the Mn(II) release and O.-2formation from different BioMnOx. | 5 | Responses of greenhouse gas fluxes to experimental warming in wheat season under conventional tillage and no-tillage fields显示文摘Understanding the effects of warming on greenhouse gas(GHG, such as N_2O, CH_4 and CO_2 )feedbacks to climate change represents the major environmental issue. However, little information is available on how warming effects on GHG fluxes in farmland of North China Plain(NCP). An infrared warming simulation experiment was used to assess the responses of N_2O, CH_4 and CO_2 to warming in wheat season of 2012–2014 from conventional tillage(CT) and no-tillage(NT) systems. The results showed that warming increased cumulative N_2O emission by 7.7% in CT but decreased it by 9.7% in NT fields(p < 0.05). Cumulative CH_4 uptake and CO_2 emission were increased by 28.7%–51.7% and 6.3%–15.9% in both two tillage systems,respectively(p < 0.05). The stepwise regressions relationship between GHG fluxes and soil temperature and soil moisture indicated that the supply soil moisture due to irrigation and precipitation would enhance the positive warming effects on GHG fluxes in two wheat seasons.However, in 2013, the long-term drought stress due to infrared warming and less precipitation decreased N_2O and CO_2 emission in warmed treatments. In contrast, warming during this time increased CH_4 emission from deep soil depth. Across two years wheat seasons, warming significantly decreased by 30.3% and 63.9% sustained-flux global warming potential(SGWP) of N_2O and CH_4 expressed as CO_2 equivalent in CT and NT fields, respectively. | 7 | Effect of experimental warming on soil respiration under conventional tillage and no-tillage farmland in the North China Plain显示文摘Understanding the response of soil respiration to global warming in agro-ecosystem is crucial for simulating terrestrial carbon(C) cycle.We conducted an infrared warming experiment under conventional tillage(CT) and no-tillage(NT) farmland for winter wheat and summer maize rotation system in North China Plain(NCP).Treatments include CT with and without warming(CTW and CTN),NT with and without warming(NTW and NTN).The results indicated that warming had no significant effect on soil moisture in irrigated farmland of NCP(P>0.05).The elevated average soil temperature of 1.1-1.6°C in crop growing periods could increase annual soil CO_2 emission by 10.3%in CT filed(P>0.05),but significantly increase it by 12.7%in NT field(P<0.05),respectively.The disturbances such as plowing,irrigation and precipitation resulted in the obvious soil CO_2 emission peaks,which contributed 36.6-40.8%of annual soil cumulative CO_2 emission.Warming would enhance these soil CO_2 emission peaks;it might be associated with the warming-induced increase of autotrophic respiration and heterotrophic respiration.Compared with un-warming treatments,dissolved organic carbon(DOC) and soil microbial biomass carbon(MBC) in warming treatments were significantly increased by 11.6-23.4 and 12.9-23.6%,respectively,indicating that the positive responses of DOC and MBC to warming in both of two tillage systems.Our study highlights that climate warming may have positive effects on soil C release in NCP in association with response of labile C substrate to warming. | TU Chun LI Fa-dong QIAO Yun-feng ZHU Nong GU Cong-ke ZHAO Xin | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2017,16,4: | 6 |
| 8 | Loss of Gn1a/OsCKX2 confers heavy-panicle rice with excellent lodging resistance显示文摘Significant achievements have been made in breeding programs for the heavy-panicle-type(HPT)rice(Oryza sativa) in Southwest China. The HPT varieties now exhibit excellent lodging resistance,allowing them to overcome the greater pressures caused by heavy panicles. However, the genetic mechanism of this lodging resistance remains elusive. Here, we isolated a major quantitative trait locus, Panicle Neck Diameter 1(PND1), andidentified the causal gene as GRAIN NUMBER 1 A/CYTOKININ OXIDASE 2(Gn1 A/Os CKX2). The null gn1 a allele from rice line R498(gn1 aR498) improved lodging resistance through increasing the culm diameter and promoting crown root development.Loss-of-function of Gn1 a/Os CKX2 led to cytokinin accumulation in the crown root tip and accelerated the development of adventitious roots. Gene pyramiding between the null gn1 aR498 allele with two gain-of-function alleles, STRONG CULM 2(SCM2)and SCM3, further improved lodging resistance.Moreover, Gn1 a/Os CKX2 had minimal influence on overall rice quality. | 11 | SLITRK3 expression correlation to gastrointestinal stromal tumor risk rating and prognosis显示文摘AIM: To assess the influence of SLIT and NTRKlike family member 3(SLITRK3) on the prognosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor(GIST) and determine whether SLITRK3 can help improve current risk stratification systems.METHODS: We hypothesized that SLITRK3 could be used as a prognostic molecular biomarker for GIST. 35 fresh tumor samples and 417 paraffin-embedded specimens from GIST patients were utilized. SLITRK3m RNA expression in GIST tumor tissue was detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction, and SLITRK3 protein levels were estimated by immunohistochemistry. The correlation of SLITRK3 expression with various tumor clinicopathological characteristics and follow-up data were analyzed.RESULTS: GIST tumors had high expression of SLITRK3 compared with adjacent normal tissues and the expression level gradually increased with risk grade. SLITRK3 protein expression was closely associated with gastrointestinal bleeding, tumor site, tumor size, mitotic index, and National Institutes of Health(NIH) classification. Survival analysis showed that SLITRK3 expression was closely correlated with overall survival and disease-free survival of GIST patients. Multivariate analysis also identified SLITRK3 expression, mitotic index, and NIH stage as significant risk factors of GIST recurrence.CONCLUSION: SLITRK3 expression is a highly significant predictor of GIST recurrence and metastasis. | 14 | Kinetic Characteristics of Neutralizing Antibody Responses Vary among Patients with COVID-19显示文摘Objective The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) pandemic continues to present a major challenge to public health. Vaccine development requires an understanding of the kinetics of neutralizing antibody(NAb) responses to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Methods In total, 605 serum samples from 125 COVID-19 patients(from January 1 to March 14, 2020)varying in age, sex, severity of symptoms, and presence of underlying diseases were collected, and antibody titers were measured using a micro-neutralization assay with wild-type SARS-CoV-2.Results NAbs were detectable approximately 10 days post-onset(dpo) of symptoms and peaked at approximately 20 dpo. The NAb levels were slightly higher in young males and severe cases, while no significant difference was observed for the other classifications. In follow-up cases, the NAb titer had increased or stabilized in 18 cases, whereas it had decreased in 26 cases, and in one case NAbs were undetectable at the end of our observation. Although a decreasing trend in NAb titer was observed in many cases, the NAb level was generally still protective.Conclusion We demonstrated that NAb levels vary among all categories of COVID-19 patients.
