| 1 | Seeing permeability from images: fast prediction with convolutional neural networks显示文摘Fast prediction of permeability directly from images enabled by image recognition neural networks is a novel pore-scale modeling method that has a great potential. This article presents a framework that includes (1) generation of porous media samples,(2) computation of permeability via fluid dynamics simulations,(3) training of convolutional neural networks (CNN) with simulated data, and (4) validations against simulations. Comparison of machine learning results and the ground truths suggests excellent predictive performance across a wide range of porosities and pore geometries, especially for those with dilated pores. Owning to such heterogeneity, the permeability cannot be estimated using the conventional Kozeny–Carman approach. Computational time was reduced by several orders of magnitude compared to fluid dynamic simulations. We found that, by including physical parameters that are known to affect permeability into the neural network, the physics-informed CNN generated better results than regular CNN. | 2 | Effects of inoculating fungi on agilawood formation in Aquilaria sinensis显示文摘Agilawood is a costly heartwood medicine obtained from Aquilaria sinensis with active ingredients mainly composed of volatile and semi-volatile substances. However, the formation time of agilawood is quite long and little is known about its formation mechanism. Two highly active fungi obtained from natural agilawood were inoculated on A. sinensis trees to understand their interaction processes and elucidate the transformation rules of induced chemical compositions within different test periods. The results demonstrated that the fungi could successfully colonize living tissues and cells and activate the host defense system, resulting in agilawood accumulation. With increasing time, the main components of A. sinensis converted into constituents or analogs of agilawood and the host exhibited 'self-injury' to prevent fungal intrusion and protect other tissues. | 3 | Research progress of photocatalysis based on highly dispersed titanium in mesoporous SiO_2显示文摘With the development of the human economy and green chemistry, people pay much more attention to environmental safety. Correspondingly, mesoporous TiO_2 and its correlated photocatalysts are able to help people seek for better life. In this review, first of all, we briefly introduce the preparations and applications of mesoporous TiO_2-SiO_2 materials, which exhibit excellent performance in pollutants decomposition and H_2 evolution in photocatalysis. Then, we review the mesoporous composites of TiSiO_2 materials, which are ideal materials used in the photoreduction of air pollutants such as CO_2, NO and NO_2. | 4 | The Effects of Reclamation Activity and Yellow River Runoff on Coastline and Area of the Laizhou Bay,China显示文摘Study on morphological changes of a bay can help to identify the effects of anthropogenic activities on coastal environ-ment and guide the exploration of marine resources.In this paper,morphological data including coastline and water areas in five discrete years between 1968 and 2015 were selected and extracted from the remote sensing images and historical marine charts to study the morphological changes in Laizhou Bay(LZB),one of the bays in the southwest of the Bohai Sea.A systematic analysis on spatial variations of the coastline and the surface areas of different types of waters in LZB was conducted.The results showed that the surface area of LZB was decreased by 1253.2km^(2)in the last half century,which is 17.4%of the total in the 1970s.The areas of the natural wetland and the intertidal zone were decreased by 17.2%and 56.1%,respectively,and the average water depth varied from 9.05 m to 8.16m at low tide level from 1968 to 2015.The coastline and shape variations of the bay turned to be complex after the 1980s,and the shape index of LZB showed an increasing trend in more recent years.The centroid of the bay generally migrated to the northeast direction,i.e.,the direction of the center of the Bohai Sea,and the shrinking direction of the bay was consistent with the migration direction of the coastline.The reclamation area during 1968-2015 in LZB was 1201.7km^(2),and 94.1%was in the inter-tidal zone.The overall morphological change of the bay during the last half century was mainly controlled by the coastal reclamation activities,and the Yellow River runoff including the river course change and sediment load variation was also an important control-ling factor. | XU Yandong GAO Huiwang WEI Xiao ZHU Jinlong | 2021 | Journal of Ocean University of China2021,20,3: | 4 |

| 6 | Silicon lithium-ion battery anode with enhanced performance: Multiple effects of silver nanoparticles显示文摘Silicon has been regarded as one of the most promising next generation lithium-ion battery anode. However, the poor cyclic stability of the Si based anode has severely limited its practical applications, which is even worse with high mass loading density(>1 mg cm^(-2)). A new concept has been developed to enhance the electrochemical performance of the Si nanoparticle anode. Silver nanoparticles are composited with the silicon nanoparticles in a facile way for the first time. It is found that the mechanical properties of the Si electrode have been significantly improved by the incorporation of the silver nanoparticles, leading to enhanced cyclic performance. With the Si/Ag mass ratio of 4:1, the reversible specific discharge capacity is retained as 1156 m A h g^(-1) after 100 cycles at 200 mA g^(-1), which is more than three times higher than that of the bare silicon(318 mA h g^(-1)). | 7 | Building metallurgical bonding interfaces in an immiscible Mo/Cu system by irradiation damage alloying (IDA)显示文摘For the immiscible Mo/Cu system with a positive heat of mixing(△H_m > 0), building metallurgical bonding interfaces directly between immiscible Mo and Cu and preparing Mo/Cu laminar metal matrix composites(LMMCs) are very difficult. To solve the problem, a new alloying method for immiscible systems, which is named as irradiation damage alloying(IDA), is presented in this paper. The IDA primarily consists of three steps. Firstly, Mo is damaged by irradiation with multi-energy(186, 62 keV) Cu ion beams at a dose of 2 × 10^(17) ions/cm^2. Secondly, Cu layers are superimposed on the surfaces of the irradiation-damaged Mo to obtain Mo/Cu laminated specimens. Thirdly, the irradiation damage induces the diffusion alloying between Mo and Cu when the laminated specimens are annealed at 950℃ in a protective atmosphere.Through IDA, Mo/Cu LMMCs are prepared in this paper. The tensile tests carried out for the Mo/Cu LMMCs specimens show that the Mo/Cu interfaces constructed via IDA have high normal and shear strengths.Additionally, the microstructure of the Mo/Cu interface is characterized by High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy(HRTEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Energy Dispersive X-ray(EDX) attached in HRTEM. The microscopic characterization results show that the expectant diffusion between Mo and Cu occurs through the irradiation damage during the process of IDA. Thus a Mo/Cu metallurgical bonding interface successfully forms. Moreover, the microscopic test results show that the Mo/Cu metallurgical interface is mainly constituted of crystalline phases with twisted and tangled lattices, and amorphous phase is not observed. | 8 | Mode and modulation characteristics for microsquare lasers with a vertex output waveguide显示文摘The mode and high-speed modulation characteristics are investigated for a microsquare laser with a side length of 16 ?m and a 2-?m-wide output waveguide connected to one vertex. The longitudinal and transverse mode characteristics are analyzed by numerical simulation and light ray model, and compared with the lasing spectra for the microsquare laser. Up to the fifth transverse mode is observed clearly from the lasing spectra. Single mode operation with the side mode suppression ratio of 41 d B is realized at the injection current of 24 m A, and the maximum output power of 0.53(0.18) m W coupled into the multiple(single) mode fiber is obtained at the current of 35 m A, for the microsquare laser at the temperature of 288 K. Furthermore, a flat small-signal modulation response is reached with the 3-d B bandwidth of 16.2 GHz and the resonant peak of 3.6 d B at the bias current of 34 m A. | 9 | Hybrid-cavity semiconductor lasers with a whispering-gallery cavity for controlling Q factor显示文摘Hybrid cavities composed of a Fabry-P′erot(FP) cavity and a whispering-gallery mode(WGM)microcavity have been proposed and demonstrated for modulating mode Q factor to realize single mode and optical bistable lasers. In this article, we report hybrid cavity lasers with a pentagon microcavity and a square microcavity, respectively. The reflectivity spectra of different microcavities are simulated to select microcavities for hybrid cavities. Mode coupling with mode Q factor enhancement is investigated numerically and experimentally. Stable single mode operations with a high coupling efficiency to a single mode fiber are realized for a hybrid cavity laser with a square microcavity. Furthermore, optical bistability hybrid lasers are investigated as the microcavity is unbiased, due to saturable absorption in the microcavity and mode competition, respectively. All-optical flip-flop is demonstrated using trigger optical pulses with a width of100 ps for mode competition bistability. | 14 | Efficient interlayer charge release for high-performance layered thermoelectrics显示文摘Many layered superlattice materials intrinsically possess large Seebeck coefficient and low lattice thermal conductivity,but poor electrical conductivity because of the interlayer transport barrier for charges,which has become a stumbling block for achieving high thermoelectric performance.Herein,taking Bi Cu Se O superlattice as an example,it is demonstrated that efficient interlayer charge release can increase carrier concentration,thereby activating multiple Fermi pockets through Bi/Cu dual vacancies and Pb codoping.Experimental results reveal that the extrinsic charges,which are introduced by Pb and initially trapped in the charge-reservoir[Bi_(2)O_(2)]^(2+)sublayers,are effectively released into[Cu_(2)Se_(2)]^(2-)sublayers via the channels bridged by Bi/Cu dual vacancies.This efficient interlayer charge release endows dual-vacancy-and Pb-codoped Bi Cu Se O with increased carrier concentration and electrical conductivity.Moreover,with increasing carrier concentration,the Fermi level is pushed down,activating multiple converged valence bands,which helps to maintain a relatively high Seebeck coefficient and yield an enhanced power factor.As a result,a high ZT value of 1.4 is achieved at 823 K in codoped Bi^(0.90)Pb^(0.06)Cu^(0.96)SeO,which is superior to that of pristine Bi Cu Se O and solely doped samples.The present findings provide prospective insights into the exploration of high-performance thermoelectric materials and the underlying transport physics. | Hao Zhu Zhou Li Chenxi Zhao Xingxing Li Jinlong Yang Chong Xiao Yi Xie | 2021 | National Science Review2021,8,2: | 1 |

| 20 | Membrane Fouling Alleviation by Chemically Enhanced Backwashing in Treating Algae-Containing Surface Water: From Bench-Scale to Full-Scale Application显示文摘Ultrafiltration(UF)has been increasingly implemented in drinking water treatment plants;however,algae and their secretions can cause severe membrane fouling and pose great challenges to UF in practice.In this study,a simple and practical chemically enhanced backwashing(CEB)process was developed to address such issues using various cleaning reagents,including sodium hypochlorite(NaClO),sodium chloride(NaCl),sodium hydroxide(NaOH),sodium citrate,and their combinations.The results indicate that the type of chemical played a fundamental role in alleviating the hydraulically irreversible membrane fouling(HIMF),with NaClO as the best-performing reagent,followed by NaCl.Furthermore,a CEB process using a combination of NaClO with NaCl,NaOH,or sodium citrate delivered little improvement in the alleviation of membrane fouling compared with NaClO alone.The optimized dosage and dosing frequency of NaClO were 10 mg·L^(-1) two times per day.Long-term pilot-scale and full-scale experiments further verified the feasibility of the CEB process in relieving algae-derived membrane fouling.Compared with the conventional hydraulic backwashing without chemical involvement,the CEB process can effectively remove the organic foulants including biopolymers,humic substances,and proteinlike substances by means of oxidization,thereby weakening the cohesive forces between the organic foulants and the membrane surface.Therefore,the CEB process can efficiently alleviate the algae-related membrane fouling with lower chemical consumption,and is proposed as an alternative to control membrane fouling in treating the algae-containing surface water. | Xiaobin Tang Tiecheng Guo Haiqing Chang Xiao Yue Jinlong Wang Haikuan Yu Binghan Xie Xuewu Zhu Guibai Li Heng Liang | 2022 | Engineering2022,,12: | 0 |
