| 1 | The vegetation and climate change during Neocene and Early Quaternary in Jiuxi Basin, China显示文摘Sporopollen record in the Laojunmiao Section at Yumen in the Hexi Corridor foreland depression at the northern margin of the Tibetan Plateau revealed that during the period of 13.0―11.15 Ma the ecological environment of the Jiuxi Basin is characterized by steppe vegetation and a semi-moist climate. During 11.16―8.60 Ma prevailed forests of cypress and a still warmer, moister climate; steppe vegetation and dry climate began probably at about 8.6 Ma. Although aridification had been relaxed time and again during 8.40―6.93 Ma (forest-steppe, warm-semi-moist), 6.64―5.67 Ma (open-forest and steppe, warmer-semi-moist) and 5.42―4.96 Ma (steppe, semi-arid), the climate in the region became drier and drier in response to the fre- quent occurrence of aridity during 6.93―6.64 Ma (steppe, semi-arid), 5.67―5.42 Ma (de- sert-steppe, arid), 3.66―3.30 Ma (desert-steppe, arid) and 2.56―2.21 Ma (desert, arid). | 2 | Dust storms and loess accumulation on the Tibetan Plateau: A case study of dust event on 4 March 2003 in Lhasa显示文摘Whether the Tibetan Plateau is a significant dust source area is of great importance, because this is re-lated to the understanding of sources, accumulation and environmental effects of dusts on the Tibetan Plateau and in the Far East-Pacific Ocean regions as well as to the evolution of coupling of the Tibetan Plateau and atmosphere-ocean- continent exchange. Synoptic dynamics and remote sensing tracing of a dust storm on 3 to 5 March, 2003 in Lhasa on South Tibet demonstrate that the Tibetan Plateau possesses all factors and conditions of generating dust storms. Accom-panied with this dust storm is a strong ascending stream on the Plateau which has raised various sizes of dust particles into different levels. The lifted coarse particles were largely fallen down and accumulated as loess on the eastern Tibetan Plateau, and the fine particles were translated by the west-erly jet and subsided in the northern Pacific Ocean. The spa-tial-temporal distribution of dust-storms between years 1961 and 2000 on the Plateau shows that dust-storms mainly occur in winter and early spring with high frequency, and the path of dust storm moves gradually from south to north, which is closely coupled with the northward moving of the westerly jet from winter to spring over the Tibetan Plateau. | 4 | Internet of Things to network smart devices for ecosystem monitoring显示文摘Smart, real-time, low-cost, and distributed ecosystem monitoring is essential for understanding and managing rapidly changing ecosystems. However, new techniques in the big data era have rarely been introduced into operational ecosystem monitoring, particularly for fragile ecosystems in remote areas.We introduce the Internet of Things(IoT) techniques to establish a prototype ecosystem monitoring system by developing innovative smart devices and using IoT technologies for ecosystem monitoring in isolated environments. The developed smart devices include four categories: large-scale and nonintrusive instruments to measure evapotranspiration and soil moisture, in situ observing systems for CO2 and d13 C associated with soil respiration, portable and distributed devices for monitoring vegetation variables, and Bi-CMOS cameras and pressure trigger sensors for terrestrial vertebrate monitoring. These new devices outperform conventional devices and are connected to each other via wireless communication networks. The breakthroughs in the ecosystem monitoring IoT include new data loggers and longdistance wireless sensor network technology that supports the rapid transmission of data from devices to wireless networks. The applicability of this ecosystem monitoring IoT is verified in three fragile ecosystems, including a karst rocky desertification area, the National Park for Amur Tigers, and the oasis-desert ecotone in China. By integrating these devices and technologies with an ecosystem monitoring information system, a seamless data acquisition, transmission, processing, and application IoT is created. | 5 | Pollen record from red clay sequence in the central Loess Plateau between 8.10 and 2.60Ma显示文摘The Late Miocene and Pliocene are the key periods for understanding the origin and development of the present Asian monsoon circulations and ecologic environ-ments. Here we present a pollen record from Chaona Red Clay section located in the central Loess Plateau in attempt to establish the histories of vegetation and associated climate changes between 8.10 and 2.60 Ma. Our results show that Gramineae-dominated woodland-grasslands developed in this region with Cedrus- and Pinus-characterized montane coniferous forests distributing in higher elevations from 8.10 to 6.73 Ma, probably suggesting a semi-humid climate in a warm-temperate zone. A subsequent expansion of Ulmus- dominated deciduous forests and a synchronous increase of Gramineae-dominated grassland reflect a warmer and more humid climate between 6.73 and 5.67 Ma. The vegetation changed to an Artemisia- and Gramineae-characterized steppe in lower elevations and to a coniferous forest in higher elevations from 5.67 to 3.71 Ma, implying probably a warm and semiarid climate in lowland and hill, and a colder and moister climate in mountain. During this period, a consider-able warmer and more humid climate occurred between 4.61 and 4.07 Ma as indicated by pollen assemblages. | 7 | Deep learning classification of coastal wetland hyperspectral image combined spectra and texture features: A case study of Huanghe(Yellow) River Estuary wetland显示文摘This paper develops a deep learning classification method with fully-connected 8-layers characteristics to classification of coastal wetland based on CHRIS hyperspectral image. The method combined spectral feature and multi-spatial texture feature information has been applied in the Huanghe(Yellow) River Estuary coastal wetland.The results show that:(1) Based on testing samples, the DCNN model combined spectral feature and texture feature after K-L transformation appear high classification accuracy, which is up to 99%.(2) The accuracy by using spectral feature with all the texture feature is lower than that using spectral only and combing spectral and texture feature after K-L transformation. The DCNN classification accuracy using spectral feature and texture feature after K-L transformation was up to 99.38%, and the outperformed that of all the texture feature by 4.15%.(3) The classification accuracy of the DCNN method achieves better performance than other methods based on the whole validation image, with an overall accuracy of 84.64% and the Kappa coefficient of 0.80.(4) The developed DCNN model classification algorithm ensured the accuracy of all types is more balanced, and it also greatly improved the accuracy of tidal flat and farmland, while kept the classification accuracy of main types almost invariant compared to the shallow algorithms. The classification accuracy of tidal flat and farmland is up to 79.26% and 56.72%respectively based on the DCNN model. | 10 | Neuropsychological features in post-stroke cognitive impairment with no dementia patients with different Traditional Chinese Medicine syndromes显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate neuropsychological features of post-stroke cognitive impairment with no dementia(PSCIND) patients with different Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) syndromes.METHODS: We recruited 50 patients with PSCIND between April 2012 and March 2013. Patients were divided into different groups according to TCM classifications. Patients were assessed using neuropsychological tests, including cognitive screening(mini-mental state examination), memory testing (auditory verbal learning test), executive/attention[shape trails test, stroop color-word test(SCWT),reading the mind in the eyes test, the digit ordering test-A(DOT-A), and symbol digit modalities test], language(action naming test, Boston naming test, famous face test, similarity test, and verbal fluency test), and visuospatial functioning [complex figure test(CFT)].RESULTS: We found no significant differences between patients with and without a diagnosis of turbid phlegm blocking the upper orifices on neuropsychological test performance. Patients diagnosed with upper hyperactivity of liver Yang syndrome scored significantly lower on the SCWT-C executive test and the CFT-delayed recall memory test. | 11 | Concise and efficient direct-view generation of arbitrary cylindrical vector beams by a vortex half-wave plate显示文摘A concise, efficient, and practical direct-view scheme is presented to generate arbitrary cylindrical vector(CV)beams, including CV beams, vortex beams, and cylindrical vector vortex(CVV) beams, by a vortex half-wave plate(VHP). Six kinds of first-order and other high-order CV beams, such as azimuthally polarized(AP) beams, antivortex radial polarization mode beams, and three-order AP beams, are formed by simply rotating a half-wave plate. The Stokes parameters and double-slit interference of multitype CV beams are investigated in detail.The polarization parameters, including degree of polarization, polarization azimuth, and ellipticity, are obtained,which demonstrates the efficient generation of CV beams. In addition, the double-slit interference experiment is introduced in the setup, and fringe misplacement and tilt appear for CVV beams, in which the misplacement number M is 2P+1 for P ≤ 2 and 2P-1 for P ≥ 3, where P is the polarization order number, and the fringe tilt offset is positively related to the topological charge number l of CVV beams. In addition, new types of VHPs can be formed by cascading two or more VHPs when the types of available VHPs are limited, assisting in more flexible generation of multitype CV beams. | 12 | Effects of river damming on biogenic silica turnover:implications for biogeochemical carbon and nutrient cycles显示文摘Rivers link terrestrial ecosystems and marine ecosystems, and they transport large amounts of substances into oceans each year, including several forms of silicon(Si), carbon(C), and other nutrients. However, river damming affects the water flow and biogeochemical cycles of Si, C, and other nutrients through biogeochemical interacting processes. In this review, we first summarize the current understanding of the effects of river damming on the processes of biogeochemical Si cycle, especially the source, composition, and recycling process of biogenic silica(BSi). Then, we introduce dam impacts on the cycles of C and some other nutrients. Dissolved silicon in rivers is mainly released from phytolith dissolution and silicate weathering. BSi in suspended matter or sediments in most rivers mainly consists of phytoliths and mainly originates from soil erosion. However, diatom growth and deposition in many reservoirs formed by river interception may significantly increase the contribution of diatom Si to total BSi, and thus significantly influence the biogeochemical Si,C, and nutrient cycles. Yet the turnover of phytoliths and diatoms in different rivers formed by river damming is still poorly quantified. | 15 | 3D Hierarchical Co–Al Layered Double Hydroxides with Long-Term Stabilities and High Rate Performances in Supercapacitors显示文摘Three-dimensional(3D) flower-like Co–Al layered double hydroxide(Co–Al-LDH) architectures composed of atomically thin nanosheets were successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal method in a mixed solvent of water and butyl alcohol. Owing to the unique hierarchical structure and modification by butyl alcohol, the electrochemical stability and the charge/mass transport of the Co–Al-LDHs was improved. When used in supercapacitors, the obtained Co–Al-LDHs deliver a high specific capacitance of 838 Fg^(-1) at a current density of 1 Ag^(-1)and excellent rate performance(753 Fg^(-1) at 30 Ag^(-1) and 677 Fg^(-1) at 100 Ag^(-1)), as well as excellent cycling stability with 95% retention of the initial capacitance even after 20,000 cycles at a current density of 5 Ag^(-1). | 19 | Comparison of the osteogenic capability of rat bone mesenchymal stem cells on collagen,collagen/hydroxyapatite,hydroxyapatite and biphasic calcium phosphate显示文摘Collagen(COL),collagen/hydroxyapatite(COL/HA),HA and biphasic calcium phosphate were prepared as representative bone grafting materials with composition analogous to bone,and their structural characteristics were analyzed.The rat bone mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs)were further seeded onto four groups of materials,and BMSCs grown in basic medium and standard osteogenic medium were set as controls of a reference model to show the basic and osteogenic behavior of cells without the intervention of materials.Cellular behaviors were characterized,including proliferation,spreading morphology and expression of osteogenesis factors.The rat BMSCs proliferated properly with time on four groups of materials as well on two groups of controls,and typical cuboidal,polygonal and extremely-elongated morphologies of cells were observed.According to the real-time polymerase chain reaction data,a higher osteogenic gene expression level was dependent upon the growing morphology but not the proliferation rate of cells,and the osteogenic differentiation capacity of cells onto four groups of materials varied in specific genes.In general,BMSCs exhibited the highest osteogenic capacity onto COL/HA,but the poorest onto HA.The growing behaviors of cells on materials were further discussed in comparison with the cases of OC and BC of the reference model.The present attempt to comparatively analyze cell experimental data with a reference model is expected to be useful for revealing the difference in the osteogenic capability of MSCs onto materials or even the bioactivity of materials. | Xiaoyu Sun Wen Su Xiaomin Ma Huaiying Zhang Zhe Sun Xudong Li | 2018 | Regenerative Biomaterials2018,5,2: | 2 |
| 20 | Simultaneous quantification of hepatic MRI-PDFF and R2* in a rabbit model with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘Quantification of hepatic fat and iron content is important for early detection and monitoring of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) patients. This study evaluated quantification efficiency of hepatic proton density fat fraction(PDFF) by MRI using NAFLD rabbits. R2* was also measured to investigate whether it correlates with fat levels in NAFLD. NAFLD rabbit model was successfully established by high fat and cholesterol diet. Rabbits underwent MRI examination for fat and iron analyses,compared with liver histological findings. MR examinations were performed on a 3.0 T MR system using multi-echo 3 D gradient recalled echo(GRE) sequence. MRI-PDFF showed significant differences between different steatosis grades with medians of3.72%(normal), 5.43%(mild), 9.11%(moderate) and 11.17%(severe), whereas this was not observed in R2*. Close correlation between MRI-PDFF and histological steatosis was observed(r=0.78, P=0.000). Hepatic iron deposit was not found in any rabbits. There was no correlation between R2* and either liver MRI-PDFF or histological steatosis. MR measuring MRI-PDFF and R2* simultaneously provides promising quantification of steatosis and iron. Rabbit NAFLD model confirmed accuracy of MRI-PDFF for liver fat quantification.
