1On the origin and continuing evolution of SARS-CoV-2显示文摘The SARS-Co V-2 epidemic started in late December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has since impacted a large portion of China and raised major global concern. Herein, we investigated the extent of molecular divergence between SARS-CoV-2 and other related coronaviruses. Although we found only 4% variability in genomic nucleotides between SARS-CoV-2 and a bat SARS-related coronavirus(SARSr-CoV;Ra TG13), the difference at neutral sites was 17%, suggesting the divergence between the two viruses is much larger than previously estimated. Our results suggest that the development of new variations in functional sites in the receptor-binding domain(RBD) of the spike seen in SARS-Co V-2 and viruses from pangolin SARSr-Co Vs are likely caused by natural selection besides recombination. Population genetic analyses of 103 SARS-CoV-2 genomes indicated that these viruses had two major lineages(designated L and S), that are well defined by two different SNPs that show nearly complete linkage across the viral strains sequenced to date. We found that L lineage was more prevalent than the S lineage within the limited patient samples we examined. 2Pollution characteristics and health risk assessment of benzene homologues in ambient air in the northeastern urban area of Beijing, China显示文摘Ambient benzene homologues were measured at a site in the northeastern urban area of Beijing, China, from August 24 to September 4, 2012 by SUMMA canister sampling followed by laboratory determination using cryogenic cold trap pre-concentration-GC-MS/FID, and their health risks were also assessed. Daily total benzene homologues ranged from 0.99 to 49.71 μg/m3with an average of 11.98 μg/m3. Benzene homologues showed higher concentrations in the morning and evening than that at noontime. Comparison with previous studies revealed a trend of decrease for ambient benzene homologues probably due to the efective emission control in Beijing in recent years. Vehicular exhaust was the main source while volatilization of paints and solvents also made substantial contributions. Health risk assessment showed that BTEX(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, o-xylene, m-xylene and p-xylene) and styrene had no appreciable adverse non-cancer health risks for the exposed population, while benzene has potential cancer risk of 1.34E-05. 342,573 cases of hepatectomy in China: a multicenter retrospective investigation显示文摘Hepatectomy is currently routinely performed in most hospitals in China. China owns the largest population of liver diseases and the biggest number of liver resection cases. A nationwide multicenter retrospective investigation involving 112 hospitals was performed, and focused on liver resection for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). 42,573 cases of hepatectomy were enrolled, and 18,275 valid cases of liver resection for HCC patients were selected for statistical analysis. The epidemiology of HCC, distribution of hepatectomy, postoperative complications and prognosis were finally analyzed. In the 18,275 HCC patients,81% had hepatitis B virus infection and 10% had hepatitis C virus infection. 38% of the HCC patients had normal Alphafetoprotein(AFP) level, and other 35% had an AFP level lower than 400 ng mL^(-1). In the study period, 97% of the hepatectomy for HCC were treated with open surgery, and 23.81% had vascular exclusion techniques. The operation time was(191.7±105.6) min,the blood loss was(546.0±562.8) m L, and blood transfusion was(543.0±1,035.2) m L. The median survival for HCC patients was 631 days, with 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival of 73.2%, 28.8% and 19.6%, respectively. 4Ambient volatile organic compounds pollution in China显示文摘Owing to rapid economic and industrial development,China has been suffering from degraded air quality and visibility. Volatile organic compounds(VOCs)are important precursors to the formation of ground-level ozone and hence photochemical smog. Some VOCs adversely affect human health. Therefore,VOCs have recently elicited public concern and given new impetus to scientific interest. China is now implementing a series of polices to control VOCs pollution. The key to formulating policy is understanding the ambient VOCs pollution status. This paper mainly analyzes the species,levels,sources,and spatial distributions of VOCs in ambient air. The results show that the concentrations of ambient VOCs in China are much higher than those of developed countries such as the United States and Japan,especial benzene,which exceeds available standards. At the same time,the ozone formation potential(OFP)and secondary organic aerosol formation potential(SOAFP)of various VOCs are calculated. Aromatics and alkenes have much higher OFPs,while aromatics have higher SOAFP. 5Efficacy and safety evaluation of intravenous infusion of cervus and cucumis polypeptides for treatment of avascular necrosis of the femoral head: a randomized clinical trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy and safety of intravenous cervus and cucumis polypeptides for treating avascular necrosis of the femoral head(ANFH) in regard to pain and hip function in a randomized clinical trial.METHODS: A total of 96 subjects with ANFH who were recruited at the Orthopaedic Hospital Affiliated with Hebei United University and Qian Hai Femoral Head Hospital of Beijing were assigned by lottery to an intervention group(n = 48) or a control group(n = 48). All subjects underwent physical therapy and rehabilitation exercises. In addition,subjects in the intervention group were given intravenous infusions of cervus and cucumis polypeptides. Visual analogue scale(VAS), Harris hip score,and radiography or magnetic resonance imaging were applied to assess all subjects at the beginning of treatment and 3, 6, and 9 months afterward. All the subjects were followed up for 2 years.RESULTS: At the beginning of treatment, there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of the general condition of patients or the VAS and Harris hip scores(all P > 0.05). At 3, 6, and 9 months after treatment,however, the VAS score decreased and the Harris hip score increased in all patients, with the improvement of intervention group significantly greater than that of the control group(P < 0.05).The total effectiveness rates for the intervention and control groups were 89.58% and 70.83%, respectively, with the difference being statistically significant(P < 0.05). 6Source attributions of heavy metals in rice plant along highway in Eastern China显示文摘Air and soil pollution from traffic has been considered as a critical issue to crop production and food safety, however, few efforts have been paid on distinguish the source origin of traffic-related contaminants in rice plant along highway. Therefore, we investigated metals (Pb, Cd, Cr, Zn and Cu) concentrations and stable Pb isotope ratios in rice plants exposed and unexposed to highway traffic pollution in Eastern China in 2008. Significant differences in metals concentrations between the exposed and unexposed plants existed in leaf for Pb, Cd and Zn, in stem only for Zn, and in grain for Pb and Cd. About 46% of Pb and 41% of Cd in the grain were attributed to the foliar uptake from atmosphere, and there were no obvious contribution of atmosphere to the accumulations of Cr, Zn and Cu in grain. Except for Zn, all of the heavy metals in stem were attributed to the root uptake from soil, although significant accumulations of Pb and Cd from atmosphere existed in leaf. This indicated that different processes existed in the subsequent translocation of foliar-absorbed heavy metals between rice organs. The distinct separation of stable Pb isotope ratios among rice grain, leaf, stem, soil and vehicle exhaust further provided evidences on the different pathways of heavy metal accumulation in rice plant. 8Genetic regulation by non-coding RNAs显示文摘Large scale cDNA sequencing and genome tiling array studies have shown that around 50% of genomic DNA in humans is transcribed, of which 2% is translated into proteins and the remaining 98% is non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs). There is mounting evidence that these ncRNAs play critical roles in regulating DNA structure, RNA expression, protein translation and protein functions through multiple genetic mechanisms, and thus affect normal development of organisms at all levels. Today, we know very little about the regulatory mechanisms and functions of these ncRNAs, which is clearly essential knowledge for understanding the secret of life. 14Use of genomic selection and breeding simulation in cross prediction for improvement of yield and quality in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)显示文摘In wheat breeding, it is a difficult task to select the most suitable parents for making crosses aimed at the improvement of both grain yield and grain quality. By quantitative genetics theory,the best cross should have high progeny mean and large genetic variance, and ideally yield and quality should be less negatively or positively correlated. Usefulness is built on population mean and genetic variance, which can be used to select the best crosses or populations to achieve the breeding objective. In this study, we first compared five models(RR-BLUP, Bayes A, Bayes B, Bayes ridge regression, and Bayes LASSO) for genomic selection(GS) with respect to prediction of usefulness of a biparental cross and two criteria for parental selection, using simulation. The two parental selection criteria were usefulness and midparent genomic estimated breeding value(GEBV). Marginal differences were observed among GS models. Parental selection with usefulness resulted in higher genetic gain than midparent GEBV. In a population of 57 wheat fixed lines genotyped with 7588 selected markers, usefulness of each biparental cross was calculated to evaluate the cross performance, a key target of breeding programs aimed at developing pure lines. It was observed that progeny mean was a major determinant of usefulness, but the usefulness ratings of quality traits were more influenced by their genetic variances in the progeny population. Near-zero or positive correlations between yield and major quality traits were found in some crosses, although they were negatively correlated in the population of parents. A selection index incorporating yield, extensibility, and maximum resistance was formed as a new trait and its usefulness for selecting the crosses with the best potential to improve yield and quality simultaneously was calculated. It was shown that applying the selection index improved both yield and quality while retaining more genetic variance in the selected progenies than the individual trait selection. 15De novo assembly and comparative analysis of root transcriptomes from different varieties of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer grown in different environments显示文摘Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer is an important traditional herb in eastern Asia. It contains ginsenosides, which are primary bioactive compounds with medicinal properties. Although ginseng has been cultivated since at least the Ming dynasty to increase production, cultivated ginseng has lower quantities of ginsenosides and lower disease resistance than ginseng grown under natural conditions. We extracted root RNA from six varieties of fifth-year P. ginseng cultivars representing four different growth conditions, and performed Illumina paired-end sequencing. In total, 163,165,706 raw reads were obtained and used to generate a de novo transcriptome that consisted of 151,763 contigs(76,336 unigenes), of which 100,648 contigs(66.3%) were successfully annotated. Differential expression analysis revealed that most differentially expressed genes(DEGs) were upregulated(246 out of 258, 95.3%) in ginseng grown under natural conditions compared with that grown under artificial conditions. These DEGs were enriched in gene ontology(GO) terms including response to stimuli and localization. In particular, some key ginsenoside biosynthesis-related genes, including HMG-Co A synthase(HMGS), mevalonate kinase(MVK), and squalene epoxidase(SE), were upregulated in wild-grown ginseng. Moreover, a high proportion of disease resistance-related genes were upregulated in wild-grown ginseng. 16Drogue detection for autonomous aerial refueling based on convolutional neural networks显示文摘Drogue detection is a fundamental issue during the close docking phase of autonomous aerial refueling(AAR). To cope with this issue, a novel and effective method based on deep learning with convolutional neural networks(CNNs) is proposed. In order to ensure its robustness and wide application, a deep learning dataset of images was prepared by utilizing real data of ‘‘Probe and Drogue' aerial refueling, which contains diverse drogues in various environmental conditions without artificial features placed on the drogues. By employing deep learning ideas and graphics processing units(GPUs), a model for drogue detection using a Caffe deep learning framework with CNNs was designed to ensure the method's accuracy and real-time performance. 17Efficacy of biofeedback therapy via a mini wireless device on sleep bruxism contrasted with occlusal splint:a pilot study显示文摘The putative causes of bruxism are multifactorial and there are no definite measures for bruxism management.The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of biofeedback therapy on sleep bruxism,compared with occlusal splint.Twenty-four volunteers with sleep bruxism were divided into two groups:the GTB group that were treated with biofeedback therapy(n 512) and the GTO group that were treated with occlusal splint(n 512).A mini pressure sensor integrated with a monitoring circuit by use of a maxillary biofeedback splint was fabricated.To foster the relaxation of the masticatory muscles and the nervous system,the wireless device received signals from bruxism events and vibrations alerted the bruxer when the threshold was exceeded.Total episodes and average duration of bruxism events during8 hours of sleep were analyzed with the monitoring program(TRMY1.0).After 6 and 12 weeks,the episodes(P 50.001) and duration(P,0.05) in the GTB group declined dramatically.In contrast,there were no significant differences in the GTO group after the treatment(P.0.05).Furthermore,the episodes had significant differences between the GTB group and the GTO group after the same period of treatment(P 5 0.000).The results suggest that biofeedback therapy may be an effective and convenient measure for mild bruxers,when compared with occlusal splint therapy.The mini wireless biofeedback method may be of value for the diagnosis and management of bruxism in the future.WeiPing Gu Jie Yang FeiMin Zhang XinMin Yin XiaoLong Wei Chen Wang 2015The Journal of Biomedical Research2015,29,2:4

It is the first ground-based Cosmic Microwave Background(CMB) polarization experiment in China and an integral part of China's Gravitational-wave Program. The main scientific goal of the Ali CPT project is to probe the primordial gravitational waves(PGWs) originating from the very early Universe. The AliCPT project includes two stages. The first stage, referred to as AliCPT-1, is to build a telescope in the Ali region of Tibet at an altitude of 5250 meters. Once completed, it will be the highest ground-based CMB observatory in the world and will open a new window for probing PGWs in the northern hemisphere. The AliCPT-1 telescope is designed to have about 7000 transition-edge sensor detectors at 95 GHz and 150 GHz. The second stage is to have a more sensitive telescope(Ali CPT-2) with more than 20 000 detectors. Our simulations show that AliCPT will improve the current constraint on the tensor-to-scalar ratio r by one order of magnitude with three years' observation. Besides the PGWs, Ali CPT will also enable a precise measurement of the CMB rotation angle and provide a precise test of the CPT symmetry. 19Rare Earth Luminescent Materials for White LED Solid State Lighting显示文摘Solid-state white LED will be a new generation of energy-saving light source in 21 century. In order to emitting white light, one of important approaches is using luminescence conversion technology with rare earth phosphors, which can be excited by the 460 nm blue light or 400 nm near violet light emitted from the InGaN chip and then emit white light. The rare earths doped phosphors prepared by us such as YAG∶Ce 3+, Ca 1-xSrxS∶Eu 2+, Ga2S3∶Eu 2+, MGa2S4∶Eu 2+(M=Ca, Sr, Ba), SrGa 2+xS 4+y∶Eu 2+, (Ca 1-xSrx)Se∶Eu 2+, SrLaGa3S6O∶Eu 2+, (M1, M2) 10(PO4)6X2 (M1=Ca, Sr, Ba; M2=Eu, Mn; X=F, Cl, Br) and NaEu 0.92Sm 0.08(MoO4)2 were reported. They emit blue, green, yellow or red color light. 20Nitrifying population dynamics in a redox stratified membrane biofilm reactor(RSMBR)for treating ammonium-rich wastewater显示文摘Nitrogen removal performance and nitrifyingpopulation dynamics were investigated in a redox stratifiedmembrane biofilm reactor(RSMBR)under oxygen limitedcondition to treat ammonium-rich wastewater.When theNH_(4)^(+)-N loading rate increased from 11.1±1.0 to 37:2±3:2 gNH_(4)^(+)-N·m^(-2)·d^(-1),the nitrogen removal inthe RSMBR system increased from 18.0±9.6 mgN·d^(-1)to 128.9±61.7 mgN·d^(-1).Shortcut nitrogen removal wasachieved with nitrite accumulation of about22:3±5:3 mgNO_(2)^(-)-N·L-1.Confocal micrographsshowed the stratified distributions of nitrifiers anddenitrifiers in the membrane aerated biofilms(MABs)atday 120,i.e.,ammonia and nitrite oxidizing bacteria(AOBand NOB)were dominant in the region adjacent to themembrane,while heterotrophic bacteria propagated at thetop of the biofilm.Real-time qPCR results showed that theabundance of amoA gene was two orders of magnitudehigher than the abundance of nxrA gene in the MABs.However,the nxrA gene was always detected during theoperation time,which indicates the difficulty of completewashout of NOB in MABs.The growth of heterotrophicbacteria compromised the dominance of nitrifiers inbiofilm communities,but it enhanced the denitrificationperformance of the RSMBR system.Applying a highammonia loading together with oxygen limitation wasfound to be an effective way to start nitrite accumulation inMABs,but other approaches were needed to sustain orimprove the extent of nitritation in nitrogen conversion inMABs.Rongchang WANG Xinmin ZHAN Yalei ZHANG Jianfu ZHAO 2011Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2011,5,1:3
