| 1 | Exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and risk for premature ovarian failure and reproductive hormones imbalance显示文摘Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)are a typical class of persistent organic pollutants that is ubiquitous worldwide.Previous animal studies suggested that PAHs had adverse effects on female reproduction.However,the human data regarding relationship of PAHs exposure with women reproductive health,such as ovarian dysfunction,are scarce.In this case-control study,the associations of serum levels of PAHs with the risk of premature ovarian failure(POF)and reproductive hormones in Chinese women were investigated,with recruiting 157 POF patients and 217 healthy women.The serum levels of 12 types of PAHs,as well as reproductive hormones,including follicle-stimulating hormone,luteinizing hormone and anti-mullerian hormone,were determined.In the logistic regression models,most individual PAH congeners showed significantly positive correlations with the risk of POF(p<0.05),except for fluorine and pyrene.Benzo(a)pyrene(BaP),as the most carcinogenic PAH congener,was observed to be significantly positively associated with the risk of POF.After adjustment for age,body mass index,educational levels and household income,per one-unit increase in the log-transformed BaP concentration was significantly correlated with 2.191-fold increased risk of POF(OR=2.191,95%CI:1.634-2.938,p<0.05).To the best of our knowledge,this is the first study to report an association between internal exposure levels of PAHs and the increased risk of POF in women. | Xiaoqing Ye Wuye Pan Chunming Li Xiaochen Ma Shanshan Yin Jianhong Zhou Jing Liu | 2020 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,5: | 10 |
| 2 | Infective viruses produced from full-length complementary DNA of swine vesicular disease viruses HK/70 strain显示文摘The full-length cDNA clone of swine vesicular disease virus HK/70 strain named pSVOK12 was constructed in order to study the antigenicity, replication, maturation and pathogenicity of swine vesicular disease virus. In vitro transcription RNA from pSVOK12 transfected IBRS-2 cells and the re- covered virus RNA were isolated and sequenced, then indirect hemagglutination test, indirect im- munofluorescence assays, eleectron microscope test, 50% tissue culture infecting dose (TCID50) assays and mouse virulence studies were performed to study the antigenicity and virulence of the recovered virus. The result showed that the infectious clones we ob- tained and the virus derived from pSVOK12 had the same biological properties as the parental strain HK/70. | 3 | Clinicopathological analysis of metaplastic meningioma: report of 15 cases in Huashan Hospital显示文摘Objective: Metaplastic meningioma is a rare subtype of benign meningiomas, classified as WHO grade I with well prognosis. Here we presented our experiences on 15 cases of metaplastic meningioma, to investigate the clinicopathological features, therapies and prognosis of these cases. Methods: 15 patients underwent surgical treatment for intracranial metaplastic meningioma between 2001 and 2010 at Neurosurgery Department of Huashan Hospital, Shanghai, China. The clinical data, radiological manifestation, treatment strategy, pathological findings and prognosis of all patients were analyzed retrospectively. Results: Among the 15 cases (10 males and 5 females), the age ranged from 22 to 74 years old (the mean age was 50.67-year old). The clinical manifestations include headache, dizziness, seizure attack, vision decrease, and weakness of bilateral lower limbs. All the patients received surgical treatment, combined with radiotherapy in some cases. In the follow-up period, recurrence occurred in 2 cases, of which 1 patient died of other system complications. Conclusions: Metaplastic meningiomas are characterized by focal or widespread mesenchymal differentiation with formation of bone, cartilage, fat, and xanthomatous tissue elements. Surgical removal is the optimal therapy, and the overall prognosis is well. | 4 | Activation of β-catenin signaling in aggrecan-expressing cells in temporomandibular joint causes osteoarthritis-like defects显示文摘β-Catenin plays a critical role in cartilage formation and development. To further understand the role of β-catenin in osteoarthritis(OA) development in temporomandibular joint(TMJ), we have generated β-catenin conditional activation mice(β-cat(ex3)^(Agc1CreER))by breeding Agc1-CreER mice with β-catenin^(flox(ex3)/+)mice. Results of histologic analysis showed the progressive TMJ defects in 3-and 6-month-old β-cat(ex3)^(Agc1CreER)mice(tamoxifen induction was performed at 2 weeks of age), including decreased chondrocyte numbers in the superficial layer associated with less Alcian blue staining, increased numbers of hypertrophic chondrocytes in deep layers, and rough articular surface. Compared to the TMJ phenotype of β-cat(ex3)^(Col2CreER)mice, β-cat(ex3)^(Agc1CreER)mice showed much severe morphological defects in the superficial layer of TMJ. This may reflect that Agc1-CreER mice could efficiently target cells in the superficial layer of TMJ. Results of immunostaining showed significantly increased expression of MMP13, Col-X, Adamts4,and Adamts5 in TMJ of β-cat(ex3)^(Agc1CreER)mice. Results of proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA), Ki67, and terminal deoxinucleotidyl transferase-mediated d UTP-fluorescein nick end labeling(TUNEL) staining further demonstrated that cell proliferation was decreased and cell apoptosis was increased in condylar cartilage of β-cat(ex3)^(Agc1CreER)mice. | 5 | Fractional Envelope Analysis for Rolling Element Bearing Weak Fault Feature Extraction显示文摘The bearing weak fault feature extraction is crucial to mechanical fault diagnosis and machine condition monitoring.Envelope analysis based on Hilbert transform has been widely used in bearing fault feature extraction. A generalization of the Hilbert transform, the fractional Hilbert transform is defined in the frequency domain, it is based upon the modification of spatial filter with a fractional parameter, and it can be used to construct a new kind of fractional analytic signal. By performing spectrum analysis on the fractional envelope signal, the fractional envelope spectrum can be obtained. When weak faults occur in a bearing, some of the characteristic frequencies will clearly appear in the fractional envelope spectrum. | 6 | Clinical characteristics and changes in living quality of patients with radiation encephalopathy induced by radiation therapy for treating nasopharyngeal carcinoma显示文摘BACKGROUND: Radiation encephalopathy (RE) caused by radiation therapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma severely influences patients' quality of life (QOL). The factors, which influence such patients' QOL, have not been confirmed. OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical and imageological characteristics of patients with radiation therapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma-induced RE and the changes in QOL, and analyze QOL influencing factors. DESIGN: Retrospective case analysis. SETTING: Department of Neurology, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. PARTICIPANTS: Eighty-nine inpatients or outpatients with RE induced by radiation therapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma admitted to Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center and Department of Neurology, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from March 1994 to August 2004 were involved in this experiment. They all met the diagnosis criteria of RE from MERRITT'S neurology (10th edition). Thirty-three involved patients were randomly chosen as RE group. Another 34 concurrent inpatients or outpatients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma who received radiation therapy but without RE were chosen as control group. Informed consents of detected items were obtained from all the involved subjects. METHODS: ① Patients were evaluated when they were followed up. The World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire abbreviated version (WHOQOL-BREF) was used for on-the-spot evaluation. High points of WHOQOL-BREF indicated better QOL. The Late Effects on Normal Tissues - Subjective, Objective, Management and Analytic (LENT-SOMA) scale for evaluating radiation injury was used to evaluate headache and neurologic disorder of patients with RE induced by radiation therapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The evaluation was graded into 5 degrees. High degrees indicted severer clinical symptoms. ② Disease latency (i.e. time interval from symptoms and body signs appearing or radiation therapy ending to onset), initial symptoms, common symptoms, imageological characteristics, QOL and other related factors of patients were recorded. ③ Statistical management was carried out with SPSS 10.0 software. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: QOL and clinical characteristics of patients with RE induced by radiation therapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma as well as QOL influencing factors. RESULTS: All the involved subjects participated in the final analysis. ① Disease latency of patients with RE ranged from 0 to 24 years, and 95% confidence interval was 0 to 15 years. There were significant differences in amount of invaded cases between 6 months after one radiation therapy and 6 months after two or more radiation therapies (χ2=36.76,P < 0.01). ② The common initial symptom of patients with RE was glossopharyngeal paralysis (33 cases, 37%). ③ The first 3 common symptoms of patients with RE were glossopharyngeal paralysis (52 cases, 58%), limb inertia and sensory disorder (25 cases, 28%) and headache (25 cases, 28%).④Imageology of patients with RE was characterized by long T1 and T2 signal shadow on magnetic resonance. ⑤Total scores of health, of daily life and of social relationship, measured with WHOQOL-BREF, of patients in RE group were significantly lower than those in the control group, respectively [(2.06±0.86)points vs. (2.59±0.66)points; (2.45±0.75)points vs. (2.91±0.75)points; (51.67±15.24) points vs. (59.22±13.03)points, P < 0.05]. Patients undergoing two or more radiation therapies were inferior to those undergoing one radiation therapy in total scores of health, and of daily life, scores of physiology, and of psychology (P < 0.05). ⑥Glossopharyngeal paralysis was negatively correlated with scores of psychology, total scores of daily life and of health in WHOQOL-BREF (P < 0.05); Head was negatively correlated with scores of psychology in WHOQOL-BREF (P < 0.05); Neurologic deficit wasnegatively correlated with scores of psychology, and total scores of health in WHOQOL-BREF (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: ①The latency of RE of patients undergoing two or more radiation therapies is remarkably shortened, and QOL is decreased, but there is no difference in QOL between two genders. ② Brain edema is common in imageology of RE after radiation therapy. | 7 | An improved Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica显示文摘A revised Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica (LIMA) is presented, using the 1073 multi-band scenes of the original Landsat-7 ETM+ LIMA image collection available at the United States Geological Survey (USGS: http://lima.usgs.gov/). Three improvements have been applied during the data processing: (1) DN saturation is adjusted by adopting a linear regression, which has a lower root mean square error than the ratio regression used by LIMA; (2) solar elevation angle is calculated using pixel-level latitude/longitude and the acquisition time and date of the central pixel of the scene, improving slightly upon the bilinear interpolation of the solar elevation angles of scene corners applied in LIMA; and (3) two additional image bands, Band 5 and Band 7, are sharpened using the panchromatic band (Band 8) and a Gram-Schmidt Spectral Sharpening algorithm to more easily distinguish snow, cloud and exposed rocks. The final planetary reflectance product is stored in 16-bit bands to preserve the full radiometric content of the scenes. | 9 | Intraoperative ultrasound assistance in resection of intracranial meningiomas显示文摘Objective: Intracranial meningiomas, especially those located at anterior and middle skull base, are difficult to be completely resected due to their complicated anatomy structures and adjacent vessels. It's essential to locate the tumor and its vessels precisely during operation to reduce the risk of neurological deficits. The purpose of this study was to evaluate intraoperative ultrasonography in displaying intracranial meningioma and its surrounding arteries, and evaluate its potential to improve surgical precision and minimize surgical trauma. Methods: Between December 2011 and January 2013, 20 patients with anterior and middle skull base meningioma underwent surgery with the assistance of intraoperative ultrasonography in the Neurosurgery Department of Shanghai Huashan Hospital. There were 7 male and 13 female patients, aged from 31 to 66 years old. Their sonographic features were analyzed and the advantages of intraoperative ultrasonography were discussed. Results: The border of the meningioma and its adjacent vessels could be exhibited on intraoperative ultrasonography. The sonographic visualization allowed the neurosurgeon to choose an appropriate approach before the operation. In addition, intraoperative ultrasonography could inform neurosurgeons about the location of the tumor, its relation to the surrounding arteries during the operation, thus these essential arteries could be protected carefully. Conclusions: Intraoperative ultrasonography is a useful intraoperative technique. | 14 | Differential gene expression in porcine SK6 cells infected with wild-type and SAP domain-mutant foot-and-mouth disease virus显示文摘Foot-and-mouth disease virus(FMDV) is the causative agent of a highly contagious disease in livestock. The viral proteinaseL^(rop) of FMDV is involved in pathogenicity, and mutation of theL^(rop) SAP domain reduces FMDV pathogenicity in pigs. To determine the gene expression profiles associated with decreased pathogenicity in porcine cells, we performed transcriptome analysis using next-generation sequencing technology and compared differentially expressed genes in SK6 cells infected with FMDV containingL^(rop) with either a wild-type or mutated version of the SAP domain. This analysis yielded 1,853 genes that exhibited a ≥ 2-fold change in expression and was validated by real-time quantitative PCR detection of several differentially expressed genes. Many of the differentially expressed genes correlated with antiviral responses corresponded to genes associated with transcription factors, immune regulation, cytokine production, inflammatory response, and apoptosis. Alterations in gene expression profiles may be responsible for the variations in pathogenicity observed between the two FMDV variants.
