| 1 | Clinical and biochemical indexes from 2019-nCoV infected patients linked to viral loads and lung injury显示文摘The outbreak of the 2019-nCoV infection began in December 2019 in Wuhan,Hubei province,and rapidly spread to many provinces in China as well as other countries.Here we report the epidemiological,clinical,laboratory,and radiological characteristics,as well as potential biomarkers for predicting disease severity in 2019-nCoV-infected patients in Shenzhen,China.All 12 cases of the 2019-nCoV-infected patients developed pneumonia and half of them developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).The most common laboratory abnormalities were hypoalbuminemia,lymphopenia,decreased percentage of lymphocytes (LYM) and neutrophils (NEU),elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH),and decreased CD8 count.The viral load of 2019-nCoV detected from patient respiratory tracts was positively linked to lung disease severity.ALB,LYM,LYM (%),LDH,NEU (%),and CRP were highly correlated to the acute lung injury.Age,viral load,lung injury score,and blood biochemistry indexes,albumin (ALB),CRP,LDH,LYM (%),LYM,and NEU (%),may be predictors of disease severity.Moreover,the Angiotensin Ⅱlevel in the plasma sample from 2019-nCoV infected patients was markedly elevated and linearly associated to viral load and lung injury.Our results suggest a number of potential diagnosis biomarkers and angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) drugs for potential repurposing treatment of 2019-nCoV infection. | Yingxia Liu Yang Yang Cong Zhang Fengming Huang Fuxiang Wang Jing Yuan Zhaoqin Wang Jinxiu Li Jianming Li Cheng Feng Zheng Zhang Lifei Wang Ling Peng Li Chen Yuhao Qin Dandan Zhao Shuguang Tan Lu Yin Jun Xu Congzhao Zhou Chengyu Jiang Lei Liu | 2020 | Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,3: | 157 |

| 3 | Controlled attenuation parameter for non-invasive assessment of hepatic steatosis in Chinese patients显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the performance of a novel non-invasive controlled attenuation parameter(CAP)to assess liver steatosis.METHODS:This was a multi-center prospective cohort study.Consecutive patients(aged≥18 years)who had undergone percutaneous liver biopsy and CAP measurement were recruited from three Chinese liver centers.Steatosis was categorized as S0:<5%;S1:5%-33%;S2:34%-66%;or S3:≥67%,according to the nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)activity score.The FibroScan?502 equipped with the M probe(Echosens,Paris,France)was used to capture both CAP and liver stiffness measurement values simultaneously.Receiver operating characteristic curves were plotted,and the areas under the curves were calculated to determine the diagnostic efficacy.The accuracy of the CAP values at the optimal thresholds was defined by maximizing the sum of sensitivity and specificity(maximum Youden index).RESULTS:A total of 152 patients were recruited,including 52(34.2%)patients with NAFLD and 100(65.8%)with chronic hepatitis B(CHB)virus infection.After adjustment,the steatosis grade(OR=37.12;95%CI:21.63-52.60,P<0.001)and body mass index(BMI,OR=6.20;95%CI:2.92-9.48,P<0.001)were found independently associated with CAP by multivariate linear regression analysis.CAP was not influenced by inflammation,fibrosis or aetiology.The median CAP values and interquartile ranges among patients with S0,S1,S2 and S3 steatosis were 211(181-240)dB/m,270(253-305)dB/m,330(302-360)dB/m,and 346(313-363)dB/m,respectively.The cut-offs for the CAP values in all patients with steatosis≥5%,≥34%and≥67%were 253 dB/m,285 dB/m and 310 dB/m,respectively.The areas under the curves were 0.92,0.92and 0.88 for steatosis≥5%,≥34%and≥67%,respectively.No significant differences were found in the CAP values between the NAFLD group and the CHB group in each steatosis grade.CONCLUSION:CAP appears to be a promising tool for the non-invasive detection and quantification of hepatic steatosis,but is limited by BMI. | Feng Shen Rui-Dan Zheng Yu-Qiang Mi Xiao-Ying Wang Qin Pan Guang-Yu Chen Hai-Xia Cao Ming-Li Chen Liang Xu Jian-Neng Chen Yi Cao Rui-Nan Zhang Lei-Ming Xu Jian-Gao Fan | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,16: | 55 |

| 6 | Developing the Science Product Algorithm Testbed for Chinese Next-Generation Geostationary Meteorological Satellites:Fengyun-4 Series显示文摘Fengyun-4A(FY-4A), the first of the Chinese next-generation geostationary meteorological satellites, launched in2016, offers several advances over the FY-2: more spectral bands, faster imaging, and infrared hyperspectral measurements. To support the major objective of developing the prototypes of FY-4 science algorithms, two science product algorithm testbeds for imagers and sounders have been developed by the scientists in the FY-4 Algorithm Working Group(AWG). Both testbeds, written in FORTRAN and C programming languages for Linux or UNIX systems, have been tested successfully by using Intel/g compilers. Some important FY-4 science products, including cloud mask, cloud properties, and temperature profiles, have been retrieved successfully through using a proxy imager, Himawari-8/Advanced Himawari Imager(AHI), and sounder data, obtained from the Atmospheric Infra Red Sounder, thus demonstrating their robustness. | 7 | Long-Term Effect of Fertilizer and Rice Straw on Mineral Composition and Potassium Adsorption in a Reddish Paddy Soil显示文摘Increasing K+ adsorption can be an effective alternative in building an available K pool in soils to optimize crop recovery and minimize losses into the environment. We hypothesized that long-term fertilization might change K+ adsorption because of changes in the chemical and mineralogical properties of a rice (Oryza sativa L.). The aims of this study were (i) to determine clay minerals in paddy soil clay size fractions using X-ray diffraction methods and a numerical diagram-decomposition method; (ii) to measure K+ adsorption isotherms before and after H 2 O 2 oxidation of organic matter, and (iii) to investigate whether K+ adsorption is correlated with changes in soil chemical and mineral properties. The 30-yr long-term fertilization treatments caused little change in soil organic C (SOC) but a large variation in soil mineral composition. The whole-clay fraction (<5 μm) corresponded more to the fertilization treatment than the fine-clay fraction (<1 μm) in terms of percentage of illite peak area. The total percentage of vermiculite-chlorite peak area was significantly negatively correlated with the total percentage of illite peak area in the <5 μm soil particles (R=-0.946, P<0.0006). Different fertilization treatments gave significantly different results in K+ adsorption. The SOC oxidation test showed positive effects of SOC on K+ adsorption at lower K+ concentration ( 120 mg L-1) and negative effects at higher K+ concentration (240 mg L-1). The K+ adsorption by soil clay minerals after SOC oxidization accounted for 60-158% of that by unoxidized soils, suggesting a more important role of soil minerals than SOC on K+ adsorption. The K+ adsorption potential was significantly correlated to the amount of poorly crystallized illite present (R=0.879, P=0.012). | 8 | Numerical description of coalbed methane desorption stages based on isothermal adsorption experiment显示文摘Quantitative description of desorption stages of coalbed methane is an important basis to objectively understand the production of coalbed methane well,to diagnose the production state,and to optimize the management of draining and collection of coalbed methane.A series of isothermal adsorption experiments were carried out with 12 anthracite samples from 6 coalbed methane wells located in the south of the Qinshui Basin,based on the results of isothermal adsorption experiments,and an analytical model was developed based on the Langmuir sorption theory.With the model,a numerical method that adopts equivalent desorption rate and its curve was established,which can be used to characterize the staged desorption of coalbed methane.According to the experimental and numerical characterizations,three key pressure points determined by the equivalent desorption rate curvature that defines pressure-declining desorption stage,have been proposed and confirmed,namely,start-up pressure,transition pressure and sensitive pressure.By using these three key pressure points,the process of coalbed methane desorption associated with isothermal adsorption experiments can be divided into four stages,i.e.,zero desorption stage,slow desorption stage,transition desorption stage,and sensitive desorption stage.According to analogy analysis,there are differences and similarities between the processes of coalbed methane desorption identified by isothermal adsorption experiments and observed in gas production.Moreover,it has been found that larger Langmuir volume and ratio of Langmuir constants are beneficial to earlier advent of steady production stage,whereas it is also possible that the declining production stage may occur ahead of schedule. | ZHANG Zheng QIN Yong Geoff X WANG FU XueHai | 2013 | Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,6: | 25 |
| 9 | Unconjugated bilirubin alleviates experimental ulcerative colitis by regulating intestinal barrier function and immune inflammation显示文摘BACKGROUND Unconjugated bilirubin(UCB) is generally considered toxic but has gained recent prominence for its anti-inflammatory properties. However, the effects of it on the interaction between intestinal flora and organisms and how it influences immune responses remain unresolved.AIM To investigate the role of UCB in intestinal barrier function and immune inflammation in mice with dextran-sulfate-sodium-induced colitis.METHODS Acute colitis was induced by 3%(w/v) dextran sulfate sodium salt in drinking water for 6 d followed by untreated water for 2 d. Concurrently, mice with colitis were administered 0.2 mL UCB(400 μmol/L) by intra-gastric gavage for 7 d.Disease activity index(DAI) was monitored daily. Mice were sacrificed at the end of the experiment. The length of the colon and weight of the spleen were recorded. Serum level of D-lactate, intestinal digestive proteases activity, and changes to the gut flora were analyzed. In addition, colonic specimens were analyzed by histology and for expression of inflammatory markers and proteins.RESULTS Mice treated with UCB had significantly relieved severity of colitis, including lower DAI, longer colon length, and lower spleen weight(colon length: 4.92 ±0.09 cm vs 3.9 ± 0.15 cm; spleen weight: 0.33 ± 0.04 vs 0.74 ± 0.04, P < 0.001). UCB administration inactivated digestive proteases(chymotrypsin: 18.70 ± 0.69 U/g vs44.81 ± 8.60 U/g; trypsin: 1.52 ± 0.23 U/g vs 9.05 ± 1.77 U/g, P < 0.01), increased expression of tight junction(0.99 ± 0.05 vs 0.57 ± 0.03, P < 0.001), decreased serum level of D-lactate(31.76 ± 3.37 μmol/L vs 54.25 ± 1.45 μmol/L, P < 0.001), and lowered histopathological score(4 ± 0.57 vs 7 ± 0.57, P < 0.001) and activity of myeloperoxidase(46.79 ± 2.57 U/g vs 110.32 ± 19.19 U/g, P < 0.001). | 10 | Induction of apoptosis of human gastric carcinoma SGC-7901 cell line by 5,7-dihydroxy-8-nitrochrysin in vitro显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effect of 5, 7-dihydroxy-8- nitrochrysin (NOChR) on apoptosis of human gastric carcinoma SGC-7901 cell line. METHODS: SGC-7901 cells were cultured in vitro and the inhibitory effect of NOChR on proliferation of SGC-7901 cells was measured by using an MTT assay. NOChR-induced apoptosis rate of SGC-7901 cells was detected using flow cytometry (FCM) with PI staining. DNA ladder bands were observed by DNA agarose gel electrophoresis. The influence of NOChR on the proxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPARγ), Bcl-2 and Bax protein expression of SGC-7901 cells was analyzed by Western blot. RESULTS: MTT assay showed that NOChR markedly inhibited proliferation of SGC-7901 cells in a dose- dependent manner, and when IC50 was 4.14 μmol/L, the potency of NOChR was 10 times than that of lead compound, chrysin (ChR, IC50 was 40.56 μmol/L), and was similar to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU, IC50 was 4.51 μmol/L). FCM with propidium iodide (PI) staining demonstrated that the apoptosis rates of SGC-7901 cells treated with 1.25, 5.00 and 20.00 μmol/L NOChR for 48 h were 9.8% ± 0.2%, 36.8% ± 1.9% and 45.5% ± 3.5%, respectively, and were significantly higher when treated with 5.00 and 20.00 μmol/L NOChR than that with 20.00 μmol/L ChR (12.9% ± 1.5%). DNA agarose gel electrophoresis showed that treatment of SGC-7901 cells with 20.00 μmol/L NOChR for 48 h resulted in typical DNA ladder bands of DNA of SGC-7901 cells, which could be eliminated by treating with 10.00 μmol/L GW9662, a blocker of PPARγ. Western blot analysis revealed that after 24 h of treatment with 20.00 μmol/L NOChR, PPARgamma and Bax protein expression of SGC-7901 cells increased but Bcl-2 expression decreased; however, pre-incubation with 10.00 μmol/L GW9662 could efficiently antagonize and weaken the regulatory effect of 20.00 μmol/L NOChR on Bax and Bcl-2 protein expression of SGC-7901 cells. Studies have shown that thousands of human protein-coding genes are regulated by miRNAs, indicating that miRNAs are master regulators of many important biological processes, such as cancer development. miRNAs frequently have deregulated expression in many types of human cancers, and play critical roles in tumorigenesis, which functions either as tumor suppressors or as oncogenes. Recent studies have shown that miRNAs are highly related with cancer progression, including initiating, growth, apoptosis, invasion, and metastasis. Furthermore, miRNAs are shown to be responsible for the cancer-related inflam- mation, anti-cancer drug resistance, and regulation of cancer stem cells. Therefore, miRNAs have generated great interest as a novel strategy in cancer diagnosis and therapy. | 16 | Establishing dynamic thresholds for potato nitrogen status diagnosis with the SPAD chlorophyll meter显示文摘The hand-held soil plant analysis development(SPAD) chlorophyll meter has proved to be a promising tool in evaluating the nitrogen status of the potato and guiding fertilization recommendations. In the process of N evaluation of potato plants and N recommendation, it is critical to establish the threshold SPAD value(SPAD reading), below which nitrogen supplement is required. And taking convenient using into account, the threshold needs to be dynamic throughout the potato growing season so that the users can test their potato plants and make fertilization decision at any growing time of potato. To complete this goal, field experiments with different nitrogen supply levels were conducted in different sites in northern China from 2009 to 2011. The results showed that threshold SPAD values decrease as the growing season progresses for all cultivars and planting sites.
