2Using Interrupted Time Series Design to Analyze Changes in Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease Incidence during the Declining Incidence Periods of 2008-2010 in China显示文摘Objective To identify patterns of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) incidence in China during declining incidence periods of 2008, 2009, and 2010. Methods Reported HFMD cases over a period of 25 months were extracted from the National Disease Reporting System (NDRS) and analyzed. An interrupted time series (ITS) technique was used to detect changes in HFMD incidence rates in terms of level and slope between declining incidence periods of the three years. Results Over 3.58 million HFMD cases younger than 5 years were reported to the NDRS between May 1, 2008, and May 31, 2011. Males comprised 63.4% of the cases. ITS analyses demonstrated a significant increase in incidence rate level (P<0.0001) when comparing the current period with the previous period. There were significant changes in declining slopes when comparing 2010 to 2009, and 2010 to 2008 (all P<0.005), but not 2009 to 2008. Conclusion Incremental changes in incidence rate level during the declining incidence periods of 2009 and 2010 can potentially be attributed to a few factors. The more steeply declining slope in 2010 compared with previous years could be ascribed to the implementation of more effective interventions and preventive strategies in 2010. 3Status of glycosylated hemoglobin and prediction of glycemic control among patients with insulin-treated type 2 diabetes in North China:a multicenter observational study显示文摘Background:Blood glucose control is closely related to type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)prognosis.This multicenter study aimed to investigate blood glucose control among patients with insulin-treated T2DM in North China and explore the application value of combining an elastic network(EN)with a machine-learning algorithm to predict glycemic control.Methods:Basic information,biochemical indices,and diabetes-related data were collected via questionnaire from 2787 consecutive participants recruited from 27 centers in six cities between January 2016 and December 2017.An EN regression was used to address variable collinearity.Then,three common machine learning algorithms(random forest[RF],support vector machine[SVM],and back propagation artificial neural network[BP-ANN])were used to simulate and predict blood glucose status.Additionally,a stepwise logistic regression was performed to compare the machine learning models.Results:The well-controlled blood glucose rate was 45.82%in North China.The multivariable analysis found that hypertension history,atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease history,exercise,and total cholesterol were protective factors in glycosylated hemoglobin(HbAlc)control,while central adiposity,family history,T2DM duration,complications,insulin dose,blood pressure,and hypertension were risk factors for elevated HbAlc.Before the dimensional reduction in the EN,the areas under the curve of RF,SVM,and BP were 0.73,0.61,and 0.70,respectively,while these figures increased to 0.75,0.72,and 0.72,respectively,after dimensional reduction.Moreover,the EN and machine learning models had higher sensitivity and accuracy than the logistic regression models(the sensitivity and accuracy of logistic were 0.52 and 0.56;RF:0.79,0.70;SVM:0.84,0.73;BP-ANN:0.78,0.73,respectively).Conclusions:More than half of T2DM patients in North China had poor glycemic control and were at a higher risk of developing diabetic complications.The EN and machine learning algorithms are alternative choices,in addition to the traditional logistic model,for building predictive models of blood glucose control in patients with T2DM.Jiao Wang Meng-Yang Wang Hui Wang Hong-Wei Liu Rui Lu Tong-Qing Duan Chang-Ping Li Zhuang Cui Yuan-Yuan Liu Yuan-Jun Lyu Jun Ma 2020Chinese Medical Journal2020,,1:19
4Broadband achromatic metalens in terahertz regime显示文摘Achromatic focusing is essential for broadband operation, which has recently been realised from visible to infrared wavelengths using a metasurface. Similarly, multi-terahertz functional devices can be encoded in a desired metasurface phase profile. However, metalenses suffer from larger chromatic aberrations because of the intrinsic dispersion of each unit element. Here, we propose an achromatic metalens with C-shaped unit elements working from 0.3 to 0.8 THz with a bandwidth of approximately 91% over the centre frequency. The designed metalens possesses a high working efficiency of more than 68% at the peak and a relatively high numerical aperture of 0.385. We further demonstrate the robustness of our Cshaped metalens, considering lateral shape deformations and deviations in the etching depth. 5Effect of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation on serum antioxidant capacity, mucosal sIgA secretions and gut microbial populations in weaned piglets显示文摘This study was conducted to determine the effect of different forms of yeasts Saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation on serum antioxidant capacity, mucosal secretory immunoglobulin A(s Ig A) secretions and gut microbial populations in weaned piglets. A total of 96 piglets weaned at 14 d of age were randomly allotted to 4 dietary treatments:(1) basal diet without yeast(Control);(2) basal diet supplemented with 3.00 g kg–1 live yeast(LY);(3) basal diet supplemented with 2.66 g kg–1 heat-killed whole yeast(HKY); and(4) basal diet supplemented with 3.00 g kg–1 superfine yeast powders(SFY). Each treatment had 4 replicates(pens), with 6 piglets per replicate. The experiment lasted for 3 wk. At d 7 and 21 of the experiment, the samples of serum, mucosa and mesenteric lymph node(MLN) from jejunum, and digesta from the ileum and cecum were collected for determinations. Compared with the Control, dietary SFY supplementation increased serum superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity and lysozyme levels at d 7, and jejunum mucosal s Ig A secretions at d 21 of the experiment(P<0.05). Dietary LY supplementation increased serum SOD activity and jejunum mucosal s Ig A secretions, but decreased serum malondialdehyde(MDA) concentration at d 7 and 21(P<0.05). Piglets fed diets supplemented with LY and SFY had lower p H values and decreased numbers of Escherichia coli in the ileum and cecum contents at d 21 compared with the Control(P<0.05). Moreover, the ratio of Lactobacilli to E. coli in the ileum and cecum contents was increased by dietary LY and SFY supplementations(P<0.05). 7Advanced treatment of biologically pretreated coal gasification wastewater by a novel heterogeneous Fenton oxidation process显示文摘Sewage sludge from a biological wastewater treatment plant was converted into sewage sludge based activated carbon(SBAC) with Zn Cl2 as activation agent, which was used as a support for ferric oxides to form a catalyst(Fe Ox/SBAC) by a simple impregnation method.The new material was then used to improve the performance of Fenton oxidation of real biologically pretreated coal gasification wastewater(CGW). The results indicated that the prepared Fe Ox/SBAC significantly enhanced the pollutant removal performance in the Fenton process, so that the treated wastewater was more biodegradable and less toxic. The best performance was obtained over a wide p H range from 2 to 7, temperature 30°C, 15 mg/L of H2O2 and 1 g/L of catalyst, and the treated effluent concentrations of COD, total phenols,BOD5 and TOC all met the discharge limits in China. Meanwhile, on the basis of significant inhibition by a radical scavenger in the heterogeneous Fenton process as well as the evolution of FT-IR spectra of pollutant-saturated Fe Ox/BAC with and without H2O2, it was deduced that the catalytic activity was responsible for generating hydroxyl radicals, and a possible reaction pathway and interface mechanism were proposed. Moreover, Fe Ox/SBAC showed superior stability over five successive oxidation runs. 8Fecal scores and microbial metabolites in weaned piglets fed different protein sources and levels显示文摘This experiment studied the effects of dietary protein sources and levels on the gut health of piglets,p H value,and concentrations of microbial metabolites(ammonia-N,volatile fatty acids [VFA],and polyamines) in the distal colonic and proximal colonic digesta of piglets weaned at 21 d of age.A total of 150 early-weaned piglets were allotted randomly to 5 diets: 1) control diet(CT; 17% CP),2) CT formulated with more soy protein concentrate(SPC19; 19% CP),3) more fish meal(FM19; 19% CP),4) CT formulated with more soy protein concentrate(SPC23; 23% CP),and 5) more fish meal(FM23; 23%CP).Results showed high protein level increased fecal score(P < 0.05),but different protein sources did not(P > 0.05).The p H value and ammonia-N concentration of digesta in the proximal and distal colon of FM23 were significantly higher(P < 0.05) than those of CT.Acetic acid,propionic acid,butyric acid and valeric acid concentrations in the proximal colon of FM23 exceeded those of CT,SPC19,and FM19(P < 0.05);however,isobutyric acid and isovaleric acid were not affected(P > 0.05).Histamine and spermidine concentrations of FM23 were higher than those of other treatments(P < 0.05).Propionic acid and butyric acid concentrations in the distal colon were higher of FM23 than of FM19(P < 0.05); putrescine,histamine and spermidine were higher of FM23 than of LP and FM19(P < 0.05).It was concluded that high dietary CP content increased microbial metabolites(ammonia-N,histamine,putrescine) in colonic digesta and aggravated piglets' diarrhea.Xiaolu Wen Li Wang Chuntian Zheng Xuefen Yang Xianyong Ma Yunpeng Wu Zhuang Chen Zongyong Jiang 2018Animal Nutrition2018,,1:14
9Relationship between β-amyloid protein 1-42, thyroid hormone levels and the risk of cognitive impairment after ischemic stroke显示文摘BACKGROUND Post-stroke cognitive impairment(PSCI)is not only a common consequence of stroke but also an important factor for adverse prognosis of patients.Biochemical indicators such as blood lipids and blood pressure are affected by many factors,and the ability of evaluating the progress of patients with PSCI is insufficient.Therefore,it is necessary to find sensitive markers for predicting the progress of patients and avoiding PSCI.Recent studies have shown thatβ-amyloid protein 1-42(Aβ1-42)and thyroid hormone levels are closely related to PSCI,which may be the influencing factors of PSCI,but there are few related studies.AIM To investigate the relationship between serum levels of Aβand thyroid hormones in acute stage and PSCI and its predicted value.METHODS A total of 195 patients with acute cerebral infarction confirmed from June 2016 to January 2018 were enrolled in this study.Baseline data and serological indicators were recorded to assess cognitive function of patients.All patients were followed up for 1 year.Their cognitive functions were evaluated within 1 wk,3 mo,6 mo and 1 yr after stroke.At the end of follow-up,the patients were divided into PSCI and non-PSCI according to Montreal cognitive assessment score,and the relationship between biochemical indexes and the progression of PSCI was explored.RESULTS Compared with patients with non-PSCI,the levels of Aβ1-42,triiodothyronine(T3)and free thyroxin were lower in the patients with PSCI.Repeated measures analysis of variance showed that the overall content of Aβ1-42 and T3 in PSCI was also lower than that of the non-PSCI patients.Further analysis revealed that Aβ1-42(r=0.348),T3(r=0.273)and free thyroxin(r=0.214)were positively correlated with disease progression(P<0.05),suggesting that these indicators have the potential to predict disease progression and outcome.Cox regression analysis showed that Aβ1-42 and T3 were important factors of PSCI.Then stratified analysis showed that the lower the Aβ1-42 and T3,the higher risk of PSCI in patients who were aged over 70,female and illiterate.CONCLUSION Aβ1-42 and T3 have the ability to predict the progression of PSCI,which is expected to be applied clinically to reduce the incidence of PSCI and improve the quality of life of patients.Lei Mao Xiao-Han Chen Jian-Hua Zhuang Peng Li Yi-Xin Xu Yu-Chen Zhao Yue-Jin Ma Bin He You Yin 2020World Journal of Clinical Cases2020,8,1:13
10Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors:A review of serum biomarkers,staging,and management显示文摘Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors(pNETs)are a heterogeneous group of tumors with complicated treatment options that depend on pathological grading,clinical staging,and presence of symptoms related to hormonal secretion.With regard to diagnosis,remarkable advances have been made:Chromogranin A is recommended as a general marker for pNETs.But other new biomarker modalities,like circulating tumor cells,multiple transcript analysis,microRNA profile,and cytokines,should be clarified in future investigations before clinical application.Therefore,the currently available serum biomarkers are insufficient for diagnosis,but reasonably acceptable in evaluating the prognosis of and response to treatments during follow-up of pNETs.Surgical resection is still the only curative therapeutic option for localized pNETs.However,a debulking operation has also been proven to be effective for controlling the disease.As for drug therapy,steroids and somatostatin analogues are the first-line therapy for those with positive expression of somatostatin receptor,while everolimus and sunitinib represent important progress for the treatment of patients with advanced pNETs.Great progress has been achieved in the combination of systematic therapy with local control treatments.The optimal timing of local control intervention,planning of sequential therapies,and implementation of multidisciplinary care remain pending.Zu-Yi Ma Yuan-Feng Gong Hong-Kai Zhuang Zi-Xuan Zhou Shan-Zhou Huang Yi-Ping Zou Bo-Wen Huang Zhong-Hai Sun Chuan-Zhao Zhang Yun-Qiang Tang Bao-Hua Hou 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,19:13

12Effects of different forms of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae on growth performance,intestinal development,and systemic immunity in early-weaned piglets显示文摘The present study was conducted to determine effects of different forms of yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae,strain Y200007) on the growth performance,intestinal development,and systemic immunity in early-weaned piglets.A total of 96 piglets(14-d old,initial average body weight of 4.5 kg) were assigned to 4 dietary treatments:(1) basal diet without yeast(Control);(2) basal diet supplemented with 3.00 g/kg live yeast(LY);(3) basal diet supplemented with 2.66 g/kg heat-killed whole yeast(HKY);and(4) basal diet supplemented with 3.00 g/kg superfine yeast powders(SFY).Diets and water were provided ad libitum to the piglets during 3-week experiment.Growth performance of piglets was measured weekly.Samples of blood and small intestine were collected at days 7 and 21 of experiment.Dietary supplementation with LY and SFY improved G:F of piglets at days 1-21 of the experiment(P<0.05) compared to Control group.Serum concentrations of growth hormone(GH),triiodothyronine(T_3),tetraiodothyronine(T_4),and insulin growth factor 1(IGF-1) in piglets at day 21 of the experiment were higher when fed diets supplemented with LY and SFY than those in Control group(P < 0.05).Compared to Control group,contents of serum urea nitrogen of piglets were reduced by the 3 yeast-supplemented diets(P< 0.05).Diets supplemented with LY increased villus height and villus-to-crypt ratio in duodenum and jejunum of piglets(P < 0.05) compared to other two groups at day 7 of the experiment.Feeding diets supplemented with LY and SFY increased(P< 0.05) serum concentrations of IgA,IL-2,and IL-6 levels in piglets compared to Control.The CD4^+/CD8^+ ratio and proliferation of T-lymphocytes in piglets fed diets supplemented with LY were increased compared to that of Control group at day 7 of the experiment(P < 0.05).In conclusion,dietary supplementation with both LY and SFY enhanced feed conversion,small intestinal development,and systemic immunity in early-weaned piglets,with better improvement in feed conversion by dietary supplementation with LY,while dietary supplementation with SFY was more effective in increasing systemic immune functions in early-weaned piglets.Zongyong Jiang Shaoyong Wei Zhilin Wang Cui Zhu Shenglan Hu Chuntian Zheng Zhuang Chen Youjun Hu Li Wang Xianyong Ma Xuefen Yang 2016Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2016,7,1:13
13Haze insights and mitigation in China: An overview显示文摘The present article provides an overview of the chemical and physical features of haze in China, focusing on the relationship between haze and atmospheric fine particles, and the formation mechanism of haze. It also summarizes several of control technologies and strategies to mitigate the occurrence of haze. The development of instruments and the analysis of measurements of ambient particles and precursor concentrations have provided important information about haze formation. Indeed, the use of new instruments has greatly facilitated current haze research in China. Examples of insightful results include the relationship between fine particles and haze, the chemical compositions and sources of particles, the impacts of the aging process on haze formation, and the application of technologies that control the formation of haze. 14Long-and short-chain AHLs affect AOA and AOB microbial community composition and ammonia oxidation rate in activated sludge显示文摘Quorum sensing(QS)regulation of the composition of ammonia-oxidising archaea(AOA)and ammonia-oxidising bacteria(AOB)communities and functions in wastewater treatment was investigated.Specifically,we explored the role of N-acyl-L-homoserine lactones(AHLs)in microbial community dynamics in activated sludge.On average,the specific ammoniaoxidising-rate increased from 1.6 to 2.8 mg NH_4^+-N/g MLSS/hr after treatment with long-chain AHLs for 16 days,and the addition of AHLs to sludge resulted in an increased number of AOA/AOB amoA genes.Significant differences were observed in the AOA communities of control and AHL-treated cultures,but not the AOB community.Furthermore,the dominant functional AOA strains of the Crenarchaeota altered their ecological niche in response to AHL addition.These results provide evidence that AHLs play an important role in mediating AOA/AOB microbial community parameters and demonstrate the potential for application of QS to the regulation of nitrogen compound metabolism in wastewater treatment.Jie Gao Yu Duan Ying Liu Xuliang Zhuang Yichen Liu Zhihui Bai Wenlin Ma Guoqiang Zhuang 2019Journal of Environmental Sciences2019,31,4:11
15Neural stem cell transplantation with Nogo-66 receptor gene silencing to treat severe traumatic brain injury显示文摘Inhibition of neurite growth, which is mediated by the Nogo-66 receptor (NgR), affects nerve regeneration following neural stem cell (NSC) transplantation. The present study utilized RNA interference to silence NgR gene expression in NSCs, which were subsequently transplanted into rats with traumatic brain injury. Following transplantation of NSCs transfected with small interfering RNA, typical neural cell-like morphology was detected in injured brain tissues, and was accompanied by absence of brain tissue cavity, increased growth-associated protein 43 mRNA and protein expression, and improved neurological function compared with NSC transplantation alone. 17Decreased Average Albumin-to-Globulin Ratio During Radiotherapy Worsens the Prognosis of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma:Implications for Nutritional Management显示文摘Objective Malnutrition and cachexia are common in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)patients undergoing radiotherapy.This study evaluated how malnutrition-and cachexia-related indicators,including the albumin-to-globulin ratio(AGR),and their changes during radiotherapy predict the treatment outcomes.Methods We reviewed a total of 172 ESCC patients receiving radiotherapy(as a primary cohort)and performed a Cox regression analysis on potential prognostic factors,including the AGR,as well as the TNM stage and concomitant chemotherapy.A subsequent receiver operating characteristics(ROC)curve and Kaplan Meier survival analysis was performed for ESCC patients stratified by the average AGR cut-off point.Results In addition to the well-documented factors(i.e.TNM stage and concomitant chemotherapy),the average AGR was a significant prognostic factor for ESCC patients receiving radiotherapy.By plotting the ROC curve of the average AGR with regard to the ESCC prognosis,we obtained cut-off points for the overall patients(cut-off point:1.5,AUC:0.636),for patients with stageⅡ/Ⅲdisease(cut-off point:1.5,AUC:0.611),and for patients with stageⅣdisease(cut-off point:1.84,AUC:0.900).The ESCC patients with higher average AGR had a significantly more favorable OS compared with those with a lower average AGR.Notably,ESCC patients who had an increasingΔAGR during radiotherapy had a considerably more favorable OS compared with those with a decreasingΔAGR.All of these findings were reproducible in the validation cohort.Conclusion A lower average AGR is indicative of a poorer prognosis for ESCC patients following radiotherapy.Improving the nutritional status and preventing or ameliorating cachexia might contribute to improving the prognosis of ESCC patients.Fen Cai Xiu Lian Zhang Xiao Ling Wu Ting Ting Zhuang Lei Huang Yi Fei Tu Yuan Yuan Lu Min Xia Jiang Qing Ying Zhang Yan Lin Chang Chun Ma 2021Journal of Nutritional Oncology2021,6,2:8
18Efficacy of thymosin alpha-1 and interferon alpha in treatment of chronic viral hepatitis B:A randomized controlled study显示文摘AIM: To observe the efficiency and safety of thymosin-α1 treatment in patients with hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) and HBV DNA positive chronic hepatitis. METHODS: Sixty-two patients were randomly divided into groups A and B. The patients in group A received subcutaneous injection of 1.6 mg thymosin-α1, twice a week (T-α1 group) for six months, and the patients in group B received 5 MU interferon alpha (IFN-α) each day for fifteen days, then three times weekly (IFN-α group) for six months. The results between two groups treated with and the group untreated with IFN-α which was followed up for 12 mo (historical control group consisting of 30 patients) were compared, and three groups were comparable between each other (P > 0.05) at baseline (age, sex, clinical history, biochemical, and serological parameters). RESULTS: At the end of treatment, complete response, which was defined as alanine aminotransferase (ALT) normalization and HBV DNA and HBeAg loss, occurred in 9 of 29 (31.0%) patients in the T-α1 group and in 15 of 33 (45.5%) patients in the IFN-α group (c2 = 1.36, P >0.05). After a follow-up period of six months, a complete response was observed in 14 of 29 (48.3%) patients in the T-α1 group and in 9 of 33 (27.3%) patients in the IFN-α group (c2 = 2.93, P > 0.05). Compared with the results observed in the historical control (HC) group untreated with IFN-α which was followed up for 12 mo, the rate of complete response was significantly higher in IFN-α group at the end of therapy (1 of 30 vs 15 of 33, c2 = 14.72, P < 0.001) and in the T-α1 group at the end of follow-up (1 of 30 vs 14 of 29, c2 = 15.71, P < 0.001). In T-α1 and IFN-α treatment groups, the area under (the plasma concentration time) curve (AUC) of negative HBV DNA and HBeAg was 34%, 17%, 31% and 19% smaller than that in the HC group. By the end of the follow- up period, the proportions of ALT normalization and negative HBV DNA in the T-α1 group were significantly higher than those in the IFN-α and HC groups. The odds of ALT normalization and negative HBV DNA at the end of the follow-up was three-fold higher in the T-α1 group than in the IFN-α group. Unlike IFN-α, T-α1 was well tolerated by all patients, and no side effects appeared in T-α1 group.CONCLUSION: The results suggest that a 6-mo course of T-α1 therapy is effective and safe in patients with chronic hepatitis B. T-α1 is able to reduce HBV replication in patients with chronic hepatitis B. Furthermore, T-α1 is better tolerated than IFN-α and can gradually induce more sustained ALT normalization and HBV DNA and HBeAg loss. However, a response rate of 48.3% is still less ideal. 20Velvet antler polypeptide is able to induce differentiation of neural stem cells towards neurons in vitro显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the neural differentiation capacity of water extraction of velvet antler.METHODS: Velvet antler(Cervus Nippon Temminck) polypeptide(VAP) was used to differentiate neural stem cells(NSCs) towards neurons in the study. Firstly, we obtain the polypeptides of VAP by water extraction. Secondly, we observed the morphology, assayed the factors in the media by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and detected the special neural molecules by immuno fl uorescence staining. NSCs were cultured on the cell climbing film.
