| 2 | Improved quality of life in patients with gastric cancer after esophagogastrostomy reconstruction显示文摘AIM:To compare postoperative quality of life (QOL) in patients with gastric cancer treated by esophagogastrostomy reconstruction after proximal gastrectomy.METHODS: QOL assessments that included functional outcomes (a 24-item survey about treatment-specific symptoms) and health perception (Spitzer QOL Index) were performed in 149 patients with gastric cancer in the upper third of the stomach, who had received proximal gastrectomy with additional esophagogastrostomy.RESULTS: Fifty-four patients underwent reconstruction by esophagogastric anterior wall end-to-side anastomosis combined with pyloroplasty (EA group); 45 patients had reconstruction by esophagogastric posterior wall end-to-side anastomosis (EP group); and 50 patients had reconstruction by esophagogastric end-to-end anastomosis (EE group). The EA group showed the best postoperative QOL, such as recovery of body weight, less discomfort after meals, and less heart burn or belching at 6 and 24 mo postoperatively. However, the survival rates, surgical results and Spitzer QOL index were similar among the three groups.CONCLUSION: Postoperative QOL was better in the EA than EP or EE group. | 3 | Combination of percutaneous radiofrequency ablation with transarterial chemoembolization for hepatocellular carcinoma: observation of clinical effects显示文摘Objective: To observe the clinical effect of radiofrequency ablation(RFA) combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE) for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods: A total of 92 cases of advanced primary liver cancer underwent TACE and RFA treatment from June 2005 to 2011 at the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, the First Affiliated Hospital of Bengbu Medical College. A total of 88 cases with complete clinical treatment and follow-up data were divided into two groups: 43 patients treated with TACE(TACE group) and 45 patients that received TACE combined with RFA treatment(TACE + RFA group). After clinical data assessment, tumor size and survival status were not significantly different between the groups as determined by stratified analysis.Results: Before and after surgery, spiral CT radiography and color comparison observed ablation conditions. The tumor necrosis rates after treatment(CR + PR) were 67.4%(29/43) and 91.1%(41/45) for the TACE and combined treatment groups, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). The quality of life was significantly improved for patients undergoing TACE + RFA compared with the control group. | 6 | Effectiveness of Different Waist Circumference Cut-off Values in Predicting Metabolic Syndrome Prevalence and Risk Factors in Adults in China显示文摘Objective To study the effectiveness of waist circumference cut-off values in predicting the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS) and risk factors in adults in China. Methods A cross-sectional survey was condcuted in 14 provinces(autonomous region, municipality) in China. A total of 47 325 adults aged ≥20 years were selected by multistage stratified sampling, and questionnaire survey and physical and clinical examination were conducted among them. MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation(IDF) criteria and modified IDF criteria.Results The age-standardized prevalence of MetS was 24.2%(22.1% in men and 25.8% in women) and 19.5%(22.1% in men and 18.0% in women) according to the IDF criteria and modified IDF criteria respectively. The age-standardized prevalence of pre-MetS was 8.1%(8.6% in men and 7.8% in women) according to the modified IDF criteria. The prevalence of MetS was higher in urban residents than rural residents and in northern China residents than in southern China residents. The prevalence of central obesity was about 30% in both men and women according to the ethnicity-specific cut-off values of waist circumference for central obesity(90 cm for men and 85 cm for women). Multivariate regression analysis revealed no significant difference in risk factors between the two MetS definitions. | 8 | Influence of moisture on the growth and biomass allocation in Haloxylon ammodendron and Tamarix ramosissima seedlings in the shelterbelt along the Tarim Desert Highway, Xinjiang, China显示文摘The authors studied the effects using three different levels of irrigation on the growth and biomass allocation in H. ammodendron and T. ramosissima seedlings in the shelterbelt along the Tarim Desert Highway. The three irrigation amounts were 35 (CK), 24.5 (treatment 1), and 14 (treatment 2) kg·ind. plant-1·once-1, respectively. The results show that (1) the vertical depth of the two seedlings’ root increased with lower levels of irrigation showing that the two species adapted to decreased irrigation by root elongation in the hinterland of the Taklimakan Desert, and the vertical root depth of H. ammodendron under treatment 2 was notably higher than CK. (2) Compared with CK, the belowground biomass of treatment 1 and 2 both showed a significant increase as follows: H. ammodendron seedlings in- creased by 14.51% and 37.03% under treatment 1 and 2, respectively, while T. ramosissima seedlings increased by 68.19% and 25.78% under treatment 1 and 2, respectively. This means that H. ammoden- dron seedlings were more adapted to the conditions in treatment 2 while T. ramosissima seedlings were better adapted to treatment 1 conditions. (3) When compared with CK, the fine root bomass of these two species all exhibited some increase under both treatments, and ANOVA analysis showed that the biomass of deep layer root of the two species under treatment 2 was notably higher than CK and treatment 1. This should help seedlings to more effectively absorb soil water from deep layers during dry conditions. (4) The root-shoot ratio was different for these two species. For H. ammodendron seed- lings, the root-shoot ratio was less than 1, while for T. ramosissim seedlings it was larger than 1. The root-shoot ratio of H. ammodendron seedlings increased with decreasing levels of irrigation, and that of T. ramosissim seedlings also increased under treatment 2. | 10 | A new bone repair scaffold combined with chitosan/ hydroxyapatite and sustained releasing icariin显示文摘Icariin, a plant-derived flavonol glycoside, has been proved as an osteoinductive agent for bone tissue engineering. A new bone repair scaffold was generated by thorough mixing of icariin and chitosan/ hydroxyapatite (icariin-CS/HA) using freeze-drying technigue. Characteristics of morphology, mechanical properties, biocompatibility, drug release behavior and bone repair abilities in vivo were evaluated. The results show that drug loading process of icariin did not affect physical structure of CS/HA composite significantly but decreased mechanical properies of CS/HA composite, which happened with a high dosage; icariin-CS/HA had favorable cell compatibility and promoted osteogenic differentiation of hBMSCs; the controlled release of icariin was satisfactory and the release retained after 90 d in vitro. In addition, icariin-CS/HA scaffolds had favorable osteoconduction and osteoinduction in vivo, and could fill bone defect sites and stimulate newborn bone tissues formation at early stage. | 11 | Changing Proportions of HIV-1 Subtypes and Transmitted Drug Resistance Among Newly Diagnosed HIV/AIDS Individuals—China,2015 and 2018显示文摘Introduction:With the expansion of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)antiretroviral therapy(ART),HIV drug resistance is becoming more and more serious.This study describes the changing prevalence of HIV-1 subtypes and transmitted drug resistance(TDR)among newly diagnosed individuals in China,2015 and 2018.Methods:A total of 8,980 individuals in 2015 and 2018 from 31 provincial-level administrative divisions(PLADs)were enrolled in this study.Viral RNAs were amplified and sequenced using an in-house polymerase chain reaction(PCR)protocol.The Stanford HIV Drug Resistance Database(HIVdb)was used to predict susceptibility to 12 antiretroviral drugs.Results:The prevalence of TDR was not significantly increased over time.The prevalence of TDR was 3.8%and 4.4%in 2015 and 2018,respectively(P=0.13).The prevalence of CRF55_01B increased from 2.3%in 2015 to 3.9%in 2018(P<0.001).The drug resistance prevalence of nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors(NNRTI)increased from 2.4%in 2015 to 3.3%in 2018(P<0.01).The prevalence of E138(P<0.001),H221(P=0.03),and V179(P<0.001)mutations increased from 0.30%,0.09%,and 0.70%in 2015 to 1.10%,0.30%,and 1.70%in 2018,respectively.Conclusions:HIV drug resistance affects the effect of antiretroviral treatment,so the monitoring of HIV TDR should be strengthened to control the transmission of HIV drug resistance. | Jingjing Hao Shan Zheng Mengze Gan Aobo Dong Ruihua Kang Miaomiao Li Shuai Zhao Jing Hu Chang Song Lingjie Liao Yi Feng Yiming Shao Yuhua Ruan Hui Xing | 2021 | China CDC weekly2021,3,53: | 13 |
| 12 | Seroepidemiological Investigation of Lyme Disease and Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis among People Living in Forest Areas of Eight Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Lyme disease and Human granulocytic anaplasmosis are tick‐borne diseases caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum respectively. We have investigated infection and co-infection of the two diseases in the population of forest areas of eight provinces in China by measuring seroprevalence of antibodies against B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum. Methods Forest areas in 8 provinces were chosen for investigation using whole sampling and questionnaire survey methods. 3 669 serum samples from people in the forest areas were tested for the presence of antibodies by indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA). Results Seroprevalence against B. burgdorferi was 3% to 15% and against A. phagocytophilum was 2% to 18% in the study sites in the 8 provinces in China. We also found co-infection of B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum in 7 of the 8 provinces (the exception being the Miyun area in Beijing). The seroprevalence for both B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum was significantly higher among people exposed to ticks than among people who were not exposed to ticks. | 18 | Neurotoxic role of interleukin-17 in neural stem cell differentiation after intracerebral hemorrhage显示文摘Interleukin 17(IL-17)and its main producer,T cell receptorγδcells,have neurotoxic effects in the pathogenesis of intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH),aggravating brain injuries.To investigate the correlation between IL-17 and ICH,we dynamically screened serum IL-17 concentrations using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and explored the clinical values of IL-17 in ICH patients.There was a significant negative correlation between serum IL-17 level and neurological recovery status in ICH patients(r=–0.498,P<0.01).To study the neurotoxic role of IL-17,C57 BL/6 mice were used to establish an ICH model by injecting autologous blood into the caudate nucleus.Subsequently,the mice were treated with mouse neural stem cells(NSCs)and/or IL-17 neutralizing antibody for 72 hours.Flow cytometry,brain water content detection,Nissl staining,and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling results indicated that NSC transplantation significantly reduced IL-17 expression in peri-hematoma tissue,but there was no difference in T cell receptorγδcells.Compared with the ICH group,there were fewer apoptotic bodies and more Nissl bodies in the ICH+NSC group and the ICH+NSC+IL-17 group.To investigate the potential effect of IL-17 on directional differentiation of NSCs,we cultured mouse NSCs(NE-4 C)alone or co-cultured them with T cell receptorγδcells,which were isolated from mouse peripheral blood mononuclear cells,for 7 days.The results of western blot assays revealed that IL-17 secreted by T cell receptorγδcells reduced the differentiation of NSCs into astrocytes and neurons,while IL-17 neutralization relieved the inhibition of directional differentiation into astrocytes rather than neurons.In conclusion,serum IL-17 levels were elevated in the early stage of ICH and were negatively correlated with outcome in ICH patients.Animal experiments and cytological investigations therefore demonstrated that IL-17 probably has neurotoxic roles in ICH because of its inhibitory effects on the directional differentiation of NSCs.The application of IL-17 neutralizing antibody may promote the directional differentiation of NSCs into astrocytes.This study was approved by the Clinical Research Ethics Committee of Anhui Medical University of China(For human study:Approval No.20170135)in December 2016.All animal handling and experimentation were reviewed and approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of Anhui Medical University(approval No.20180248)in December 2017. | Lu Gao Ping-Ping Li Tian-Yu Shao Xiang Mao Hao Qi Bing-Shan Wu Ming Shan Lei Ye Hong-Wei Cheng | 2020 | Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,7: | 8 |

| 20 | Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome.
