| 2 | Selenium deficiency induces spleen pathological changes in pigs by decreasing selenoprotein expression,evoking oxidative stress,and activating inflammation and apoptosis显示文摘Background:The immune system is one aspect of health that is affected by dietary selenium(Se)levels and selenoprotein expression.Spleen is an important immune organ of the body,which is directly involved in cellular immunity.However,there are limited reports on Se levels and spleen health.Therefore,this study established a Se-deficient pig model to investigate the mechanism of Se deficiency-induced splenic pathogenesis.Methods:Twenty-four pure line castrated male Yorkshire pigs(45 days old,12.50±1.32 kg,12 full-sibling pairs)were divided into two equal groups and fed Se-deficient diet(0.007 mg Se/kg)or Se-adequate diet(0.3 mg Se/kg)for 16 weeks.At the end of the trial,blood and spleen were collected to assay for erythroid parameters,the osmotic fragility of erythrocytes,the spleen index,histology,terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase nick-end labeling(TUNEL)staining,Se concentrations,the selenogenome,redox status,and signaling related inflammation and apoptosis.Results:Dietary Se deficiency decreased the erythroid parameters and increased the number of osmotically fragile erythrocytes(P<0.05).The spleen index did not change,but hematoxylin and eosin and TUNEL staining indicated that the white pulp decreased,the red pulp increased,and splenocyte apoptosis occurred in the Se deficient group.Se deficiency decreased the Se concentration and selenoprotein expression in the spleen(P<0.05),blocked the glutathione and thioredoxin antioxidant systems,and led to redox imbalance.Se deficiency activated the NF-κB and HIF-1αtranscription factors,thus increasing pro-inflammatory cytokines(IL-1β,IL-6,IL-8,IL-17,and TNF-α),decreasing anti-inflammatory cytokines(IL-10,IL-13,and TGF-β)and increasing expression of the downstream genes COX-2 and iNOS(P<0.05),which in turn induced inflammation.In addition,Se-deficiency induced apoptosis through the mitochondrial pathway,upregulated apoptotic genes(Caspase3,Caspase8,and Bak),and downregulated antiapoptotic genes(Bcl-2)(P<0.05)at the mRNA level,thus verifying the results of TUNEL staining.Conclusions:These results indicated that Se deficiency induces spleen injury through the regulation of selenoproteins,oxidative stress,inflammation and apoptosis. | Shuang Li Wenjuan Sun Kai Zhang Jiawei Zhu Xueting Jia Xiaoqing Guo Qingyu Zhao Chaohua Tang Jingdong Yin Junmin Zhang | 2021 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021,12,4: | 4 |
| 3 | Nurturing the marriages of single atoms with atomic clusters and nanoparticles for better heterogeneous electrocatalysis显示文摘Single-atom catalysts,featuring some of the most unique activities,selectivity,and high metal utilization,have been extensively studied over the past decade.Given their high activity,selectivity,especially towards small molecules or key intermediate conversions,they can be synergized together with other active species(typically other single atoms,atomic clusters,or nanoparticles)in either tandem or parallel or both,leading to much better performance in complex catalytic processes.Although there have been reports on effectively combining the multiple components into one single catalytic entity,the combination and synergy between single atoms and other active species have not been reviewed and examined in a systematic manner.Herein,in this overview,the key synergistic interactions,binary complementary effects,and the bifunctional functions of single atoms with other active species are defined and discussed in detail.The integration functions of their marriages are in-vestigated with particular emphasis on the homogeneous and heterogeneous combinations,spatial distribution,synthetic strategies,and the thus-derived outstanding catalytic performance,together with new light shined on the catalytic mechanisms by zooming in several case studies.The dynamic nature of each of the active species and in particular their interactions in such new catalytic entities in the heterogeneous electrocatalytic processes are visited,on the basis of the in situ/operando evidence.Last,we feature the current chal-lenges and future perspectives of these integrated catalytic entities that can offer guidance for advanced catalyst design by the rational combination and synergy of binary or multiple active species. | Lei Zhang Jiawei Zhu Xin Li Shichun Mu Francis Verpoort Junmin Xue Zongkui Kou John Wang | 2022 | Interdisciplinary Materials2022,1,1: | 3 |

| 11 | The microwave scattering characteristics of sea ice in the Bohai Sea显示文摘Microwave remote sensing has become the primary means for sea-ice research, and has been supported by a great deal of field experiments and theoretical studies regarding sea-ice microwave scattering. However, these studies have been barely carried in the Bohai Sea. The sea-ice microwave scattering mechanism was first developed for the thin sea ice with slight roughness in the Bohai Sea in the winter of 2012, and included the backscattering coefficients which were measured on the different conditions of three bands(L, C and X), two polarizations(HH and VV), and incident angles of 20° to 60°, using a ground-based scatterometer and the synchronous physical parameters of the sea-ice temperature, density, thickness, salinity, and so on. The theoretical model of the sea-ice electromagnetic scattering is obtained based on these physical parameters. The research regarding the sea-ice microwave scattering mechanism is carried out through two means, which includes the comparison between the field microwave scattering data and the simulation results of the theoretical model, as well as the feature analysis of the four components of the sea-ice electromagnetic scattering. It is revealed that the sea-ice microwave scattering data and the theoretical simulation results vary in the same trend with the incident angles. Also, there is a visible variant in the sensitivity of every component to the different bands.For example, the C and X bands are sensitive to the top surface, the X band is sensitive to the scatterers, and the L and C bands are sensitive to the bottom surface, and so on. It is suggested that the features of the sea-ice surfaces and scatterers can be retrieved by the further research in the future. LRIG1 is correlated with Bcl-2 in ependymomas. Decreased Bcl-2 and manganese superoxide dismutase expression can improve the chemosensitivity of glioma. In the present study, a tissue microarray of human brain astrocytomas was constructed. To investigate the relationship of LRIG1 with Bcl-2 and manganese superoxide dismutase, LRIG1, Bcl-2 and manganese su-peroxide dismutase expression in our tissue microarray was determined using immunohisto-chemistry. In addition, we constructed the LRIG1-U251 cell line, and its responses to doxoru-bicin and temozolomide were detected using the MTT assay. Results showed that LRIG1 ex-pression was significantly negatively correlated with Bcl-2 and manganese superoxide dismu-tase expression in glioma. Also, proliferation of LRIG1-U251 cells exposed to doxorubicin or temozolomide was significantly inhibited, i.e. in the LRIG1-U251 cell line, the chemosensitivity to doxorubicin and temozolomide was increased. The influences of various organic compounds as well as the component concentration on the O-2-CCT formation ability were investigated. The results show that if the difference of O-2-CCT formation ability between the two components is rather large, such as the benzene/isopropyl ether system, only the O-2-CCT absorption of benzene appears, which arises from its higher O-2-CCT formation ability. If the difference of O-2-CCT formation ability is small, such as the isopropyl ether/ethanol system and the dioxane/isopropyl ether system, it is rather easy to form a dynamic equilibrium of two O-2-CCT between the two components, then only one absorption peak appears in the whole concentration range as a result of the repeated addition of the two kinds of O-2-CCT absorption.
