| 2 | Influence of mesoscale eddies on primary production in the South China Sea during spring inter-monsoon period显示文摘Mesoscale eddies have been suggested to have an impact on biological carbon fixation in the South China Sea(SCS). However, their overall contribution to primary production during the spring inter-monsoon period is still unknown. Based on large-scale biological and environmental in situ observations and synchronous remote sensing data, the distribution patterns of phytoplankton biomass and the primary production, and the role of mesoscale eddies in regulating primary production in different eddy-controlled waters were investigated. The results suggested that the surface chlorophyll a concentrations and water column integrated primary production(IPP) are significantly higher in cyclonic eddies and lower in the anticyclonic eddies as compared to that in non-eddy waters. Although eddies could affect various environmental factors, such as nutrients, temperature and light availability, nutrient supply is suggested to be the most important one through which mesoscale eddies regulated the distribution patterns of phytoplankton biomass and primary production. The estimated IPP in cyclonic and anticyclonic eddies are about 29.5% higher and 16.6% lower than the total average in the whole study area, respectively, indicating that the promotion effect of mesoscale cold eddies on the primary production was much stronger than the inhibition effect of the warm eddies per unit area. | 3 | Chemometric study of spatial variations of environmental and ecological characteristics in the Zhujiang River (Pearl River) Estuary and adjacent waters显示文摘Chemometric approach based on principal component analysis(PCA) was utilized to examine the spatial variances of environmental and ecological characteristics in the Zhujiang River(Pearl River) Estuary and adjacent waters(ZREAW) in the South China Sea. The PCA result shows that the ZREAW can be divided into different zones according to the principal components and geographical locations of the study stations,and indicates that there are distinct regional variances on environmental features and the corresponding phytoplankton biomass and community structures among different areas. The spatial distribution of ecological features was implied to be influenced by various degrees of the different water resources,such as the Pearl River discharges,the coastal current and the oceanic water from the South China Sea. | 4 | Chlorophyll a increase induced by surface winds in the northern South China Sea显示文摘The response of chlorophyll a (Chl a) concentration to wind stress is analyzed in the South China Sea (SCS), using in-situ data of Chl a and remote sensing data (QuikScat-sea surface wind (SSW), AVHRR-sea surface temperature (SST), AVISO merged-sea level anomalies (SLA), SeaWiFSderived Chl a and MODIS Terra-derived Chl a) in August/September/October 2004, 2006 and 2009. The variability of SSW, SST and SLA 7 d before in-situ Chl a sampling (including the work day of in-situ Chl a sampling) with the same latitude and longitude of the study area are investigated, and the correlation coefficients are calculated between these hydrographic factors and in-situ Chl a concentration. The results show that the Chl a-SSW correlation coefficients at upper layers (such as 0 m and 25 m) are more significant than those at deeper layers (such as 50, 75 and 100 m) 1-3 d before, which indicates that there is a time lag of strong surface winds stimulating phytoplankton bloom. By analyzing the relationship among the daily remote sensing derived (RSderived) SSW, SST, SLA and 3 d averaged SeaWiFS/MODIS-derived Chl a concentration in the northern SCS in September 2004 and 2009 respectively, it shows that the intensity and speed of surface winds could have great influence on extend of Chl a increase. | 5 | Variations in silicate concentration affecting photosynthetic carbon fixation by spring phytoplankton assemblages in surface water of the Strait of Malacca显示文摘The Strait of Malacca (SoM), the world's busiest sea-route, is increasingly polluted as the rapid development of world trades, affecting phytoplankton primary productivity therein. The variations of surface phytoplankton biomass, size-structure and carbon fixation were investigated across the SoM during the spring period (May 4 to 9, 2011). Chlorophyll a concentration increased from 0.12 μg/L at the northwest entrance of the SoM to a maximal 0.63 μg/L at narrowest section, and decreased to 0.10 μg/L at the southeast entrance. Photosynthetic carbon fixation by phytoplankton coincided well with Chl a biomass, and increased from 10.8 to 22.3 μg C/(L d), then decreased to 9.21 μg C/(L d); while the carbon fixation rate showed an inverse pattern to the changes of Chl a, and decreased from 87.1 to 35.5 μg C/(μg Chl a d) and increased thereafter to 95.3 μg C/(μg Chla·d). Picophytoplankton cells (<3 μm) contributed to more than 60% and 50% of the total Chl a and carbon fixation at both the entry waters; while the contributions of pico-cells decreased sharply to the minimum of 18.3% and 27.5% at the narrowest part of the SoM. | 6 | Zircon U-Pb Ages and Hf Isotopes of Neoproterozoic Meta-Igneous Rocks in the Liansandao Area,Northern Sulu Orogen,Eastern China,and the Tectonic Implications显示文摘The Sulu Orogen preserves the Neoproterozoic tectonic-magmatic events,corresponding to the breaking up of the Rodinia supercontinent.The ages and petrogenesis of meta-igneous rocks in the Liansandao area in the northern Sulu Orogen are not well-constrained.This study reports zircon U-Pb ages and Hf isotopes of these rocks from the Liansandao area.Three meta-igneous rock samples give similar weighted mean 206 Pb/238 U ages of 744±11,767±12,and 762±15 Ma,respectively,indicating the Neoproterozoic crystallization ages.These rocks formed coevally with the Wulian and Yangkou intrusions that located along the Yantai-Qingdao-Wulian fault zone.The Neoproterozoic ages indicate that the meta-igneous rocks from the Liansandao area have affinity to the Yangtze Block.The three samples haveεHf(t)values of-7.2–-10.5,-6.0–-17.5,and-6.8–-12.0,respectively.These negativeεHf(t)values indicate a primarily crustal source.However,the widely variousεHf(t)values that are higher than the continental crust,suggesting magma mixing between mantle-derived materials and the continental crust or source heterogeneity.Combined with the Hf model ages and geochemical characteristics,the monzodiorite(sample LSD-2)is most likely to be mantle-derived magma then interacted with ancient continental crust,and the granitic protolith(samples LSD-1 and LSD-3)in the Liansandao area might derive from the re-melting of a Paleoproterozoic continental crust at^750 Ma,resulting from the upwelling and underplating of mantle-derived magma formed in an extensional setting due to the break-up of the Rodinia supercontinent. | Zhaojun Song Huimin Liu Fanxue Meng Xingyu Yuan Qiao Feng Dingwu Zhou Juan Ramon Vidal Romani Hongbo Yan | 2019 | Journal of Earth Science2019,30,6: | 4 |
| 7 | SARS-CoV-2 ORF10 suppresses the antiviral innate immune response by degrading MAVS through mitophagy显示文摘The global coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)has caused severe morbidity and mortality in humans.It is urgent to understand the function of viral genes.However,the function of open reading frame 10(ORF10),which is uniquely expressed by SARS-CoV-2,remains unclear.In this study,we showed that overexpression of ORF10 markedly suppressed the expression of type I interferon(IFN-I)genes and IFN-stimulated genes.Then,mitochondrial antiviral signaling protein(MAVS)was identified as the target via which ORF10 suppresses the IFN-I signaling pathway,and MAVS was found to be degraded through the ORF10-induced autophagy pathway.Furthermore,overexpression of ORF10 promoted the accumulation of LC3 in mitochondria and induced mitophagy.Mechanistically,ORF10 was translocated to mitochondria by interacting with the mitophagy receptor Nip3-like protein X(NIX)and induced mitophagy through its interaction with both NIX and LC3B.Moreover,knockdown of NIX expression blocked mitophagy activation,MAVS degradation,and IFN-I signaling pathway inhibition by ORF10.Consistent with our observations,in the context of SARS-CoV-2 infection,ORF10 inhibited MAVS expression and facilitated viral replication.In brief,our results reveal a novel mechanism by which SARS-CoV-2 inhibits the innate immune response;that is,ORF10 induces mitophagy-mediated MAVS degradation by binding to NIX. | Xingyu Li Peili Hou Wenqing Ma Xuefeng Wang Hongmei Wang Zhangping Yu Huasong Chang Tiecheng Wang Song Jin Xue Wang Wenqi Wang Yudong Zhao Yong Zhao Chunqing Xu Xiaomei Ma Yuwei Gao Hongbin He | 2022 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2022,19,1: | 4 |

| 12 | Using bioprinting and spheroid culture to create a skin model with sweat glands and hair follicles显示文摘Background:Sweat glands(SGs)and hair follicles(HFs)are two important cutaneous appendages that play crucial roles in homeostatic maintenance and thermoregulation,and their interaction is involved in wound healing.SGs can be regenerated from mesenchymal stem cell-laden 3D bioprinted scaffolds,based on our previous studies,whereas regeneration of HFs could not be achieved in the same model.Due to the lack of an in vitro model,the underlying molecular mechanism of the interaction between SGs and HFs in regeneration could not be fully understood.The purpose of the present study was to establish an in vitro model of skin constructs with SGs and HFs and explore the interaction between these two appendages in regeneration.Methods:To investigate the interaction effects between SGs and HFs during their regeneration processes,a combined model was created by seeding HF spheroids on 3D printed SG scaffolds.The interaction between SG scaffolds and HF spheroids was detected using RNA expression and immunofluorescence staining.The effects of microenvironmental cues on SG and HF regeneration were analysed by altering seed cell types and plantar dermis homogenate in the scaffold.Results:According to this model,we overcame the difficulties in simultaneously inducing SG and HF regeneration and explored the interaction effects between SG scaffolds and HF spheroids.Surprisingly,HF spheroids promoted both SG and HF differentiation in SG scaffolds,while SG scaffolds promoted SG differentiation but had little effect on HF potency in HF spheroids.Specifically,microenvironmental factors(plantar dermis homogenate)in SG scaffolds effectively promoted SG and HF genesis in HF spheroids,no matter what the seed cell type in SG scaffolds was,and the promotion effects were persistent.Conclusions:Our approach elucidated a new model for SG and HF formation in vitro and provided an applicable platform to investigate the interaction between SGs and HFs in vitro.This platform might facilitate 3D skin constructs with multiple appendages and unveil the spatiotemporal molecular program of multiple appendage regeneration. | Yijie Zhang Enhejirigala Bin Yao Zhao Li Wei Song Jianjun Li Dongzhen Zhu Yuzhen Wang Xianlan Duan Xingyu Yuan Sha Huang Xiaobing Fu | 2021 | Burns & Trauma2021,9,1: | 2 |
| 13 | Electrochemomechanical coupled behaviors of deformation and failure in electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries显示文摘The growing demands of lithium-ion batteries with high energy density motivate the development of high-capacity electrode materials. The critical issue in the commercial application of these electrodes is electrochemomechanical degradation accompanied with the large volume change, built-in stress, and fracture during lithiation and delithiation. The strong and complex couplings between mechanics and electrochemistry have been extensively studied in recent years. The multi-directional couplings, e.g.,(de)lithiation-induced effects and stress-regulated effects, require cooperation in the interdisciplinary fields and advance the theoretical and computational models. In this review, we focus on the recent work with topics in the electrochemomechanical couplings of deformation and fracture of conventional and alloying electrodes through experimental characterization, theoretical and computational models. Based on the point of view from mechanics, the strategies for alleviating the degradation are also discussed, with particular perspectives for component-interaction patterns in the composite electrodes. | 14 | Thickness evolution of commercial Li-ion pouch cells with siliconbased composite anodes and NCA cathodes显示文摘It is significant to monitor the thickness change of commercial Li-ion pouch cells that are assembled from Si-based electrodes and layered cathodes since the volume variation is critically linked with kinetic reaction mechanism and chemomechanical degradation. In this work, the single-point and full-field measurements are conducted on the thickness evolution of Si Ox/Cgraphite/lithium nickel-cobalt-aluminum oxide(Si Ox-G/NCA) batteries. It is found that an abnormal overshoot that has been rarely observed in the previous studies appears at the beginning of discharge, which is believed to be the combined results between the rapid expansion of NCA and the contraction of graphite related to the state of charge(SOC). | 15 | Environmental Drivers of Temporal and Spatial Fluctuations of Mesozooplankton Community in Daya Bay, Northern South China Sea显示文摘The response of zooplankton to the ecological environment in Daya Bay is unclear under the influence of both climate changes and anthropogenic activities on a seasonal to inter-annual scale.Based on monthly surveys and historical data,we found the zooplankton community had changed temporally and spatially.A total of 134 species was recorded during the study,and copepods dominated numerically in terms of diversity and abundance.Both copepods and cladocerans were the main contributors to zooplankton abundance.The community structure of zooplankton was temporally classified into the warm and cold groups,and spatially into the three groups located in the marine cage-culture area(MCCA),the outflow of nuclear power plants(ONPP)and unpolluted waters(UPW).The zooplankton was characterized by low biomass(dry weight),high diversity and abundance in the warm period in contrast to that in the cold period.Compared with the other two groups,the MCCA group of zooplankton showed high abundance,low diversity and biomass.Variations in dominant species were closely related to temperature,salinity and chlorophyll a concentration.Species diversity and dry weight decreased in comparison with 30 years ago,while zooplankton abundance increased.The seasonal variation in zooplankton was affected mainly by temperature that was controlled by monsoon,while the spatial difference in the community structure was probably due to eutrophication in the MCCA and thermal water discharge from ONPP.The zooplankton community is undergoing great changes with the tendency of miniaturization and gelatinization in recent 30 years in Daya Bay. | LI Kaizhi MA Jie HUANG Liangmin TAN Yehui SONG Xingyu | 2021 | Journal of Ocean University of China2021,20,4: | 2 |
