1Speciation and fractionation of heavy metals in soil experimentally contaminated with Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn together and effects on soil negative surface charge显示文摘Speciation and fractionation of heavy metals in soil subsamples experimentally loaded with Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn in orthogonal design was investigated by sequential extraction, and operationally defined as water soluble and exchangeable(SE), weakly specific adsorbed(WSA), Fe and Mn oxides bound(OX) and organic bound(ORG). The results showed that fractions of heavy metals in the soil subsamples depended on their speciation. About 90% of Cd and 75% of Zn existed in soil subsamples in the SE fraction. Lead and Cu existed in soil subsamples as SE, WSA and OX fractions simultaneously, although SE was still the major fraction. Organic bound heavy metals were not clearly apparent in all the soil subsamples. The concentration of some heavy metal fractions in soil subsamples showed the good correlation with ionic impulsion of soil, especially for the SE fraction. Continuous saturation of soil subsamples with 0.20 mol/L NH 4Cl, which is the first step for determination of the negative surface charge of soil by the ion retention method, resulted in desorption of certain heavy metals from the soil. It was found that the percentage desorption of heavy metals from soil subsamples depended greatly on pH, the composition and original heavy metal content of the soil subsamples. However, most of the heavy metals in the soil subsamples were still be retained after multiple saturation. Compared with the parent soil, the negative surface charge of soil subsamples loaded with heavy metals did not show difference significantly from that of the parent one by statistical analysis. 2Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. 3Targeting neuroinflammation in Alzheimer's disease:from mechanisms to clinical applications显示文摘Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by sustained neuroinflammation leading to memory loss and cognitive decline.The past decade has witnessed tremendous efforts in Alzheimer’s disease research;however,no effective treatment is available to prevent disease progression.An increasing body of evidence suggests that neuroinflammation plays an important role in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis,alongside the classical pathological hallmarks such as misfolded and aggregated proteins(e.g.,amyloid-beta and tau).Firstly,this review summarized the clinical and pathological characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease.Secondly,we outlined key aspects of glial cell-associated inflammation in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis and provided the latest evidence on the roles of microglia and astrocytes in Alzheimer’s disease pathology.Then,we revealed the double-edged nature of inflammatory cytokines and inflammasomes in Alzheimer’s disease.In addition,the potential therapeutic roles of innate immunity and neuroinflammation for Alzheimer’s disease were also discussed through these mechanisms.In the final section,the remaining key problems according to the current research status were discussed.Zi-Zhen Si Chen-Jun Zou Xi Mei Xiao-Fang Li Hu Luo Yao Shen Jun Hu Xing-Xing Li Lun Wu Yu Liu 2023Neural Regeneration Research2023,18,4:7
4Resistance of Antimicrobial Peptide Gene Transgenic Rice to Bacterial Blight显示文摘Antimicrobial peptide is a polypeptide with antimicrobial activity. Antimicrobial peptide genes Np3 and Np5 from Chinese shrimp (Fenneropenaeus Chinensis) were integrated into Oryza sativa L. subsp. japonica cv. Aichi ashahi by Agrobacterium mediated transformation system. PCR analysis showed that the positive ratios of Np3 and Np5 were 36% and 45% in T0 generation, respectively. RT-PCR analysis showed that the antimicrobial peptide genes were expressed in T1 generation, and there was no obvious difference in agronomic traits between transgenic plants and non-transgenic plants. Four Np3 and Np5 transgenic lines in T1 generation were inoculated with Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae strain CR4, and all the four transgenic lines had significantly enhanced resistance to bacterial blight caused by the strain CR4. The Np5 transgenic lines also showed higher resistance to bacterial blight caused by strains JS97-2, Zhe 173 and OS-225. 5Ketoconazole Associated Hepatotoxicity: A Systematic Review and Metaanalysis显示文摘Objective To evaluate the incidence of Ketoconazole associated hepatotoxicity and related factors. Methods Literature retrieval was conducted by using multi-databases for meta-analysis on Ketoconazole associated hepatotoxicity. The data were collected with a standardized form. Overall estimation of incidence of hepatotoxicity for specific study type was calculated by using a DerSimonian-Laird random-effects model owing to the substantial differences among the studies. Results Totally 204 eligible studies were included in the analysis. The incidence of Ketoconazole associated hepatotoxicity was 3.6%-4.2%. The dosage and duration specific subgroup analyses did not show any significant difference among groups, while the age specific subgroup analysis showed the incidence in children and people aged >60 years was 1.4% (95% CI: 0.5%-4.2%) and 3.2% (95% CI: 1.1%-8.7%) respectively. Additionally, the incidence of the hepatotoxicity was higher in people who had oral administration of ketoconazole beyond the provisions of the usage instructions, and the incidence was 5.7% (95% CI: 4.5%-7.2%). Conclusion Ketoconazole associated hepatotoxicity was common. Off-label use might increase the risk of liver damage. 6ERK1/2-mediated Cytoplasmic Accumulation of hnRNPK Antagonizes TRAIL-induced Apoptosis through Upregulation of XIAP in H1299 Cells显示文摘Objective Tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand(TRAIL) resistance greatly limits the clinical therapeutic efficacy of TRAIL. Elucidating the molecular mechanism underlying TRAIL resistance will be fundamental to resolving this problem. Methods Nuclear and cytoplasmic protein extraction and immunofluorescence(IF) assay were used to detect changes in heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein K(hn RNPK) localization in H1299 cells. The evaluation of cell apoptosis in cells transfected with GFP-hn RNPK, GFP-hn RNPK S284/353 A, or GFP-hn RNPK S284/353 D mutant was performed using cleaved caspase-3 antibody. The gene expression of XIAP was tested by quantitative RT-PCR. Results Previously, we reported that hn RNPK antagonized TRAIL-induced apoptosis through inhibition of PKC-mediated GSK3β phosphorylation. In this study, we further demonstrate that TRAIL treatment induces cytoplasmic accumulation of hn RNPK in H1299 cells. The hn RNPK localized in the cytoplasm has a higher capacity to antagonize TRAIL-induced apoptosis. Both ERK1/2 signaling inhibitor U0126 and ERK-phosphoacceptor-site mutant(GFP-hn RNPK S284/353A) diminish cytoplasmic accumulation of hn RNPK induced by TRAIL. Moreover, we show that XIAP is involved in hn RNPK-mediated TRAIL resistance in H1299 cells. 7N-Halamine Functionalized Electrospun Poly(Vinyl Alcohol-co-Ethylene)Nanofibrous Membranes with Rechargeable Antibacterial Activity for Bioprotective Applications显示文摘Developing bioprotective materials with bactericidal activity is of great significance since it can effectively keep healthcare workers from infection by emerging infectious diseases;however,this is still a big challenge.Herein,we fabricate a novel rechargeable N-halamine antibacterial material by functionalizing electrospun poly(vinyl alcohol-co-ethylene)(EVOH)nanofibers with dimethylol-5,5-dimethylhydantoin(DMDMH).The premise of the design is that the N-halamine com-pound,DMDMH,can be covalently grafted on the nanofibers,endowing the EVOH nanofibrous membranes(ENM)with rechargeable and durable bactericidal activity.The as-prepared DMDMH functionalized ENM(EDNM)render rechargeable chlorination capacity(>2000 ppm),high inactivation efficacy against bacteria(>99.9999%within 3 min),high filtration efficiency(>99.5%)under low air resistance,and robust mechanical properties,which are due to the synergistic effect of the unique characters of N-halamines and electrospun nanofibrous architecture.The successful synthesis of the N-halamine antibacterial membranes can serve as a functional layer of protective equipment that capable of inactivating and intercepting pathogenic bioaerosols,providing new ways into the development of new-generation antibacterial bioprotective materials.Mingguang Liang Fei Wang Mei Liu Jianyong Yu Yang Si Bin Ding 2019Advanced Fiber Materials2019,1,2:5

12Trend and seasonal variations of atmospheric CH_4 in Beijing显示文摘The atmospheric CH\-4 in Beijing is still increasing, even though its increasing rate has significantly decreased from 1.76%/a during 1985—1989 to 0.50%/a during 1990—1997. The seasonal variation of CH\-4 concentration showed a double\|peak pattern, one peak appearing in winter and the other in summer. It is evident that the annually seasonal variations of atmospheric CH\-4 in Beijing are different. From 1986 to 1997, the atmospheric CH\-4 increased by 185 ppbv, 37% and 21% of which were due to the increase in winter and in summer, respectively. After 1993, the annually seasonal increasing rate of CH\-4 concentration in summer (due to emission from biogenic sources) is negative while the increasing rate in winter (due to emission from non\|biogenic sources) is positive about 25 ppbv/a. As a result, the increase of CH\-4 emission from non\|biogenic sources in winter is the major reason that caused the annually seasonal increasing rate from 1993 to 1997. 15Association between Phthalate Exposure and the Use of Plastic Containers in Shanghai Adults显示文摘Objective Consuming phthalates may be due to the presence of food contact materials,such as plastic containers.In this study,we investigated the association between plastic container use and phthalate exposure in 2,140 Shanghai adults.Methods Participants completed a questionnaire on the frequency of using plastic containers in different scenarios in the previous year(e.g.,daily,weekly) and on the consumption of plastic-packaged foods in the previous three days(yes or no).Urinary phthalate metabolites were used to assess the association between phthalate exposure and the use of plastic containers.Results The metabolites of di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate(DEHP) were the most frequently detected in urine.The results revealed that phthalate exposure was associated with consumption of plastic-packaged breakfast or processed food items in the previous three days.The consumption of these two food items had strong synergistic effects on increasing urinary concentrations of most phthalate metabolites.Conclusion Our results of plastic-packaged breakfast and processed food may be explained by the use of flexible plastic containers,indicating the importance of risk assessment for the application of flexible plastic containers.DONG Rui Hua ZHANG Han ZHANG Mei Ru CHEN Jing Si WU Min LI Shu Guang CHEN Bo 2017Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2017,30,10:2
16Effects of ZnS modification on primary Si in hypereutectic Al-Si alloy显示文摘A new modifying agent, ZnS, was used as a refiner to modify primary silicon in hypereutectic AlSi alloy. The factors affecting the modification results, including addition level of ZnS and holding time, were investigated. The results showed that the average size of the most effectively modified primary silicon was 28.5 μm when the ZnS mixed powder addition was 0.15 wt.% with a holding time of 10 min. 17Durable easy-cleaning and antibacterial cotton fabrics using fluorine-free silane coupling agents and CuO nanoparticles显示文摘Multifunctional fabrics of high durability through a scalable and eco-friendly technique remains a great challenge hindering their commercialization.In this work,we report a facile synthesis technique for the fabrication of superhydrophobic antibacterial fabrics by employing fluorine-free silane coupling agents as cross-linkers for enhanced durability.Three silane cross-linkers,Aminoethylaminopropyltrimethoxysilane(AEAPTMS),Aminopropyltriethoxysilane(APTES),and Methacryloyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane(MPTMS),have been investigated.During the fabrication,a low surface energy polymer,polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)was first deposited on cotton fabrics.Subsequently,antibacterial copper oxide(CuO)nanoparticles were anchored on the PDMS coated fabrics using the silane cross-linkers.The as-prepared fabrics displayed high superhydrophobicity and antibacterial performance with water contact angle(WCA)>153,water shedding angle(WSA)<5,and up to 99%antibacterial efficiency.Additionally,the as-prepared fabrics displayed high durability against abrasion,ultrasonic washing,and soaking in harsh chemical environments.The air permeability and flexibility of the fabric was not compromised after the coating.The above-reported technique is simple,cost-effective and holds tremendous potential for large-scale production of energy-saving clothing and healthcare products.Neha Agrawal Pearlie Sijia Low Jasmine Si Jia Tan Eileen Wen Mei Fong Yuekun Lai Zhong Chen 2020Nano Materials Science2020,2,3:2

20Charge resolution in the isochronous mass spectrometry and the mass of ^(51)Co显示文摘Isochronous mass spectrometry(IMS)of heavyion storage rings is a powerful tool for the mass measurements of short-lived nuclei.In IMS experiments,masses are determined through precision measurements of the revolution times of the ions stored in the ring.However,the revolution times cannot be resolved for particles with nearly the same mass-to-charge(m/q)ratios.To overcome this limitation and to extract the accurate revolution times for such pairs of ion species with very close m/q ratios,in our early work on particle identification,we analyzed the amplitudes of the timing signals from the detector based on the emission of secondary electrons.Here,the previous data analysis method is further improved by considering the signal amplitudes,detection efficiencies,and number of stored ions in the ring.A sensitive Z-dependent parameter is introduced in the data analysis,leading to a better resolution of ^(34)Ar^(18+) and ^(51)Co^(27+) with A/Z=17/9.The mean revolution times of ^(34)Ar^(18+) and ^(51)Co^(27+) are deduced,although their time difference is merely 1.8 ps.The uncorrected,overlapped peak of these ions has a full width at half maximum of 7.7 ps.The mass excess of ^(51)Co was determined to be-27;332e41T keV,which is in agreement with the previous value of-27;342e48T keV.Xu Zhou Meng Wang Yu-Hu Zhang Hu-Shan Xu You-Jin Yuan Jian-Cheng Yang Yu.A.Litvinov S.A.Litvinov Bo Mei Xin-Liang Yan Xing Xu Peng Shuai Yuan-Ming Xing Rui-Jiu Chen Xiang-Cheng Chen Chao-Yi Fu Qi Zeng Ming-Ze Sun Hong-Fu Li Qian Wang Tong Bao Min Zhang Min Si Han-Yu Deng Ming-Zheng Liu Ting Liao Jin-Yang Shi Yu-Nan Song 2021Nuclear Science and Techniques2021,32,4:1
