| 1 | Speciation with gene flow via cycles of isolation and migration:insights from multiple mangrove taxa显示文摘Allopatric speciation requiring an unbroken period of geographical isolation has been the standard model of neo-Darwinism. While doubts have been repeatedly raised, strict allopatry without any gene flow remains a plausible mechanism in most cases. To rigorously reject strict allopatry, genomic sequences superimposed on the geological records of a well-delineated geographical barrier are necessary. The Strait of Malacca,narrowly connecting the Pacific and Indian Ocean coasts, serves at different times either as a geographical barrier or a conduit of gene flow for coastal/marine species. We surveyed 1700 plants from 29 populations of 5 common mangrove species by large-scale DNA sequencing and added several whole-genome assemblies. Speciation between the two oceans is driven by cycles of isolation and gene flow due to the fluctuations in sea level leading to the opening/closing of the Strait to ocean currents. Because the time required for speciation in mangroves is longer than the isolation phases, speciation in these mangroves has proceeded through many cycles of mixing-isolation-mixing, or MIM, cycles. The MIM mechanism, by relaxing the condition of no gene flow, can promote speciation in many more geographical features than strict allopatry can. | 2 | Olfactory ecto-mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes ameliorate murine Sjögren’s syndrome by modulating the function of myeloid-derived suppressor cells显示文摘Sjögren’s syndrome(SS)is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by progressive inflammation and tissue damage in salivary glands and lacrimal glands.Our previous studies showed that myeloid-derived suppressor cells(MDSCs)exhibited impaired immunosuppressive function during disease progression in patients with SS and mice with experimental Sjögren’s syndrome(ESS),but it remains unclear whether restoring the function of MDSCs can effectively ameliorate the development of ESS.In this study,we found that murine olfactory ecto-mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes(OE-MSC-Exos)significantly enhanced the suppressive function of MDSCs by upregulating arginase expression and increasing ROS and NO levels.Moreover,treatment with OE-MSC-Exos via intravenous injection markedly attenuated disease progression and restored MDSC function in ESS mice.Mechanistically,OE-MSC-Exo-secreted IL-6 activated the Jak2/Stat3 pathway in MDSCs.In addition,the abundant S100A4 in OE-MSC-Exos acted as a key factor in mediating the endogenous production of IL-6 by MDSCs via TLR4 signaling,indicating an autocrine pathway of MDSC functional modulation by IL-6.Taken together,our results demonstrated that OE-MSC-Exos possess therapeutic potential to attenuate ESS progression by enhancing the immunosuppressive function of MDSCs,possibly constituting a new strategy for the treatment of Sjögren’s syndrome and other autoimmune diseases. | Ke Rui Yue Hong Qiugang Zhu Xiaofei Shi Fan Xiao Hailong Fu Qing Yin Yida Xing Xinfeng Wu Xiaodan Kong Huaxi Xu Jie Tian Shengjun Wang Liwei Lu | 2021 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,2: | 12 |
| 3 | Controllable synthesis of Ni/NiO@porous carbon hybrid composites towards remarkable electromagnetic wave absorption and wide absorption bandwidth显示文摘The reasonable design of the composition of the composite materials is of great significance to optimized the electromagnetic(EM)wave absorption performance.Herein,the Ni/NiO@C hybrid composites with tunable Ni proportion were successfully synthesized through a two-step process.With the assistance of X-ray diffraction with refinement treatment,the specific proportion of Ni of as-obtained hybrid composites could be obtained.Employing controlling calcination time to adjust the Ni content of Ni/NiO@C hybrid composites,it has been found that the composite carbonized at 500℃exhibited remarkable EM wave absorption with the minimum reflection loss(RLmin)of-49.1 dB at 4.9 mm and the widest effective absorption bandwidth(EABmax)of 4.56 GHz at 2.1 mm.Moreover,by adjusting the Ni source,the optimal EM wave absorption performance could be achieved.Results illustrated that the N3PC with the Ni proportion of 13.17%showed the RLm inas low as-51.1 dB at 2.4 mm and the EABmax was 5.12 GHz at 2.7 mm.It is worth noting that this work demonstrates the relevance of the composition and EM wave absorption performance of hybrid composites,which offers a feasible reference for the absorption mechanism of absorber. | Xinfeng Zhou Zirui Jia Xingxue Zhang Bingbing Wang Wei Wu Xuehua Liu Binghui Xu Guanglei Wu | 2021 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,28: | 5 |
| 4 | Preliminary Analysis of Diesel-Degrading Bacteria Immobilized on Organic Carriers in Seawater显示文摘Oil pollution in marine environment is becoming increasingly serious. Oil bioremediation by immobilization technology has been widely studied. However, the effect of bacteria immobilization was limited because of lack of nutrients. In this paper, the organic materials(corn straw, corn cob and corn leaf) were used as carriers. The diesel removal rate achieved by the immobilized bacteria was studied, and the effects of nutrients(e.g. nitrogen and phosphorus) released from organic carriers to the immobilized bacteria were analyzed. Test results indicated that a certain amount of nutrients was released from organic carriers. Additionally, the diesel removal rates achieved by different immobilized bacteria were all higher than those achieved by free bacteria. And, the diesel removal rates achieved by bacteria decreased in the following order: bacteria immobilized on corn straw(79%), bacteria immobilized on corn leaf(70%) and bacteria immobilized on corn cob(43%). These findings indicated two aspects, viz.: the carriers porous structure and the nutrients, which were favorable to biodegradation. Finally, the changes in nitrogen and phosphorus contents that were released from different carriers during biodegradation were studied. The results showed that the rate of diesel biodegradation was fast in the initial phase because of the sufficient nutrients released from carriers. | 8 | Cloud-based typhoon-derived paddy rice flooding and lodging detection using multi-temporal Sentinel-1&2显示文摘Rice production in China’s coastal areas is frequently affected by typhoons,since the associated severe storms,with heavy rain and the strong winds,lead directly to the rice plants becoming flooded or lodged.Long-term flooding and lodging can cause a substantial reduction in rice yield or even destroy the harvest completely.It is therefore urgent to obtain accurate information about paddy rice flooding and lodging as soon as possible after the passing of the storm.This paper proposes a workflow in Google Earth Engine(GEE)for mapping the flooding and lodging area of paddy rice in Wenzhou City,Zhejiang,following super typhoon Maria(Typhoon No.8 in 2018).First,paddy rice in the study area was detected by multi-temporal Sentinel-1 backscatter data combined with Sentinel-2-derived Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI)using the Random Forests(RFs)algorithm.High classification accuracies were achieved,whereby rice detection accuracy was calculated at 95%(VH+NDVI-based)and 87%(VV+NDVI-bastd).Secondly,Change Detection(CD)based Rice Normalized Difference Flooded Index(RNDFI)and Rice Normalized Difference Lodged Index(RNDLI)were proposed to detect flooding and lodged paddy rice.Both RNDFI and RNDLI were tested based on four different remote sensing data sets,including the Sentinel-1-derived VV and VH backscattering coefficient,Sentinel-2-derived NDVI and Enhanced Vegetation Index(EVI).Overall agreement regarding detected area between the each two different data sets was obtained,with values of 79%to 93%in flood detection and 64%to 88%in lodging detection.The resulting flooded and lodged paddy rice maps have potential to reinforce disaster emergency assessment systems and provide an important resource for disaster reduction and emergency departments. | Wanben WU Wei WANG Michael E.Meadows Xinfeng YAO Wei PENG | 2019 | Frontiers of Earth Science2019,13,4: | 2 |

| 10 | Learning curve of totally thoracoscopic pulmonarysegmentectomy显示文摘Totally thoracoscopic pulmonary segmentectomy (TTPS) is a feasible and sale technique that requiresadvanced thoracoscopic skills and knowledge of pulmonary anatomy. However, data describing the learning curveof TTPS have yet to be obtained. In this study, 128 patients who underwent TTPS between September 2010 andDecember 2013 were retrospectively analyzed to evaluate the learning curve and were divided chronologically intothree phases, namely, ascending phase (A), plateau phase (B), and descending phase (C), through cumulativesummation (CUSUM) for operative time (OT). Phases A, B, and C comprised 39, 33, and 56 cases, respectively. OTand blood loss decreased significantly from phases A to C (P 〈 0.01), and the frequency of intraoperativebronchoscopy for target bronchus identification decreased gradually (A, 8/39; B, 4/33; C, 3/56; P = 0.06). Nosignificant differences were observed in demographic factors, conversion, complications, hospital stay, andretrieved lymph nodes among the three phases. Surgical outcomes and techniques improved with experience andvolume. | 18 | Identification of liver metastasis-associated genes in human colon carcinoma by mRNA profiling显示文摘Objective: Liver metastasis,which contributes substantially to high mortality,is the most common recurrent mode of colon carcinoma.Thus,it is necessary to identify genes implicated in metastatic colonization of the liver in colon carcinoma.Methods: We compared mRNA profiling in 18 normal colon mucosa(N),20 primary tumors(T) and 19 liver metastases(M) samples from the dataset GSE49355 and GSE62321 of Gene Expression Omnibus(GEO) database.Gene ontology(GO) and pathways of the identified genes were analyzed.Co-expression network and proteinprotein interaction(PPI) network were employed to identify the interaction relationship.Survival analyses based on The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA) database were used to further screening.Then,the candidate genes were validated by our data.Results: We identified 22 specific genes related to liver metastasis and they were strongly associated with cell migration,adhesion,proliferation and immune response.Simultaneously,the results showed that C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 14(CXCL14) might be a favorable prediction factor for survival of patients with colon carcinoma.Importantly,our validated data further suggested that lower CXCL14 represented poorer outcome and contributed to metastasis.Gene set enrichment analysis(GSEA) showed that CXCL14 was negatively related to the regulation of stem cell proliferation and epithelial to mesenchymal transition(EMT).Conclusions: CXCL14 was identified as a crucial anti-metastasis regulator of colon carcinoma for the first time,and might provide novel therapeutic strategies for colon carcinoma patients to improve prognosis and prevent metastasis. | Jianling Liu Dan Wang Chaoqi Zhang Zhen Zhang Xinfeng Chen Jingyao Lian Jinbo Liu Guixian Wang Weitang Yuan Zhenqiang Sun Weijia Wang Mengjia Song Yaping Wang Qian Wu Ling Cao Dong Wang Yi Zhang | 2018 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2018,30,6: | 1 |
