| 6 | A deep seismic sounding profile across the Tianshan Mountains显示文摘The deep seismic sounding profile across the Tianshan Mountains revealed a two-layer crustal structure in the Tianshan region, namely the lower and upper crusts. Lateral variations of layer velocity and thickness are evidently shown. Low-velocity layers spread discontinuously at the bottom of the upper crust. The Mono depth is 47 km in the Kuytun area and 50 km in the Xayar area. In the Tianshan Mountains, the Moho becomes deeper with the maximum depth of 62 km around the boundary between the southern and northern Tianshan Mountains. The average velocity ranges from 6.1 to 6.3 km/s in the crust and 8.15 km/s at the top of the upper mantle. Two groups of reliable reflective seismic phases of the Moho (Pm1 and Pm2) are recognized on the shot record section of the Kuytun area. A staked and offset region, 20-30 km long, is displayed within a shot-geophone distance of 190-210 km in Pm1 and Pm2. | 7 | A new insight into cattle's maternal origin in six Asian countries显示文摘The domestication of cattle fuelled the development of agricultural society in the history of human being.The evolution and genetic relationship of cattle can be elucidated by investigating the variation of mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA) D-loop sequence.In this study,we built a cattle phylogeny with a pool of 856 individual D-loop sequences,of which 264 Chinese cattle D-loop sequences were obtained in this study(141 ones were first analyzed,and 123 were first submitted) and the rest sequences of cattle from six Asian countries(Japan,Korea,Mongolia,Nepal,India and China) were retrieved from GenBank.Our results indicated that cattle from six Asian countries fell into three clades,Bos taurus(taurine),Bos indicus(zebu) and yak.Four main haplogroups T1A,T2,T3(including T3A and T3B) and T5 were found in taurine,and two haplogroups I1 and I2 in zebu.Furthermore,we found that I1 and I2 haplogroups were separated by four variable sites rather than five ones and four haplogroups or sub-haplogroups of T1A,T3A,T3B and T5 were found for the first time in these Asian cattle.These data brought us a new insight into cattle's genetic structure in these six Asian countries.The geographical distribution of haplogroups was also outlined to provide systematic information on cattle genetic resources. | Shangang Jia Yan Zhou Chuzhao Lei Ru Yao Zhiying Zhang Xingtang Fang Hong Chen | 2010 | Journal of Genetics and Genomics2010,37,3: | 8 |
| 8 | Functional diversity of Cercidiphyllum japonicum, communities in the Shennongjia Reserve, central China显示文摘Functional diversity is significant to ecological processes of plant communities. We analyzed the variation of functional diversity of endangered species, Cercidiphyllum japonicum, communities along an elevational gradient in the Shennongjia Reserve, central China. Sixty plots of 10 9 20 m from 1,350 to 2,050 m were set up and species composition, traits and environmental variables were measured and recorded. These data were analyzed using five functional diversity indices, functional attribute diversity, modified functional attribute diversity, plot based functional diversity, community based functional diversity and Rao's functional diversity indices(Rao's index),Functional diversities of C. japonicum communities were rich and varied greatly. Functional diversity declined nonlinearly with increasing elevation. Functional diversity was significantly correlated with species richness and heterogeneity. Elevation was a key environmental variable influencing functional diversity and species diversity. The five functional diversity indices were all effective for measuring functional diversity of communities. | 12 | Assessment of the individual and combined effects of Rht8 and Ppd-D1a on plant height, time to heading and yield traits in common wheat显示文摘Grain yield in cereal crops is a complex trait controlled by multiple genes and influenced by developmental processes and environment. Here we report the effects of alleles Rht8 and Ppd-D1 a on plant height, time to heading, and grain yield and its component traits. Association analysis and quantitative trait locus mapping using phenotypic data from 15 environments led to the following conclusions. First, both Rht8 and Ppd-D1 a reduce plant height. However, Ppd-D1 a but not Rht8 causes earlier heading.Second, both Rht8 and Ppd-D1 a promote grain yield and affect component traits. Their combined effects are substantially larger than those conferred by either allele alone.Third, promotion of grain yield by Rht8 and Ppd-D1 a is through increasing fertile spikelet number. We speculate that Rht8 and Ppd-D1 a act independently and additively in control of plant height, grain yield and yield component. | 16 | Chronosequencing methanogenic archaea in ancient Longji rice Terraces in China显示文摘Chronosequences of ancient rice terraces serve as an invaluable archive for reconstructions of historical human-environment interactions. Presently, however, these reconstructions are based on traditional soil physico-chemical properties. The microorganisms in palaeosols have been unexplored. We hypothesized that microbial information can be used as an additional proxy to complement and consolidate archaeological interpretations. To test this hypothesis, the palaeoenvironmental methanogenic archaeal DNA in Longji Terraces, one of the famous ancient terraces in China, dating back to the late Yuan Dynasty(CE1361–1406), was chronosequenced by high-throughput sequencing. It was found that the methanogenic archaeal abundance, diversity and community composition were closely associated with the 630 years of rice cultivation and in line with changes in multi-proxy data. Particularly, the centennial-and decadalscale influences of known historical events, including social turbulences(The Taiping Rebellion, CE1850–1865), palaeoclimate changes(the Little Ice Age) and recorded natural disasters(earthquakes and inundation), on ancient agricultural society were clearly echoed in the microbial archives as variations in alpha and beta diversity. F is initially synthesized as a precursor(F_0) and then cleaved into a disulfide-linked F_1 and F_2 subunits during the process of protein maturation and secretion. To facilitate further investigation into the structure and function of F protein during virus infection, monoclonal antibodies(mAbs) against the F_2 subunit of Helicoverpa armigera nucleopolyhedrovirus(HearNPV)(Ha F) were generated. Two kinds of mAbs were obtained according to their different recognition epitopes: one kind of mAbs, as represented by 38F10,recognizes amino acid(aa) 85 to 123 of F_2 and the other kind, represented by 44D11, recognizes aa148 to 173 of F_2. Western blot and immunofluorescence assay confirmed that both of the mAbs recognized the F protein expressed in HearNPV infected cells, however, only 44D11 could neutralize HearNPV infection. The results further showed that 44D11 may not interact with a receptor binding epitope, rather it was demonstrated to inhibit syncytium formation in cells expressing the Ha F protein. | 20 | Two haplotype-resolved,gap-free genome assemblies for Actinidia latifolia and Actinidia chinensis shed light on the regulatory mechanisms of vitamin C and sucrose metabolism in kiwifruit显示文摘Kiwifruit is a recently domesticated horticultural fruit crop with substantial economic and nutritional value,especially because of the high content of vitamin C in its fruit.In this study,we de novo assembled two telomere-to-telomere kiwifruit genomes from Actinidia chinensis var.‘Donghong’(DH)and Actinidia latifolia‘Kuoye’(KY),with total lengths of 608327852 and 640561626 bp for 29 chromosomes,respectively.With a burst of structural variants involving inversion,translocations,and duplications within 8.39 million years,the metabolite content of DH and KY exhibited differences in saccharides,lignans,and vitamins.A regulatory ERF098 transcription factor family has expanded in KY and Actinidia eriantha,both of which have ultra-high vitamin C content.With each assembly phased into two complete haplotypes,we identified allelic variations between two sets of haplotypes,leading to protein sequence variations in 26494 and 27773 gene loci and allele-specific expression of 4687 and 12238 homozygous gene pairs.Synchronized metabolome and transcriptome changes during DH fruit development revealed the same dynamic patterns in expression levels and metabolite contents;free fatty acids and flavonols accumulated in the early stages,but sugar substances and amino acids accumulated in the late stages.The AcSWEET9b gene that exhibits allelic dominance was further identified to positively correlate with high sucrose content in fruit.Compared with wild varieties and other Actinidia species,AcSWEET9b promoters were selected in red-flesh kiwifruits that have increased fruit sucrose content,providing a possible explanation on why red-flesh kiwifruits are sweeter.Collectively,these two gap-free kiwifruit genomes provide a valuable genetic resource for investigating domestication mechanisms and genome-based breeding of kiwifruit. | Xue Han Yilin Zhang Qiong Zhang Ni Ma Xiaoying Liu Wenjing Tao Zhiying Lou Caihong Zhong Xing Wang Deng Dawei Li Hang He | 2023 | Molecular Plant2023,16,2: | 3 |
