| 2 | Toward improved trade-off between thermoelectric and mechanical performances in polycarbonate/single-walled carbon nanotube composite films显示文摘Polymer thermoelectric(TE)composites have witnessed explosive developments in recent years,arising from their promising prospect for lightweight flexible electronics and capability of harvesting waste-heat.In sharp contrast with intrinsically conducting polymers(CPs),the insulating thermoplastics have seldom been employed as the matrices for flexible TE composites despite their advantages of low costs,controllable melt-flowing behaviors and excellent mechanical properties.Here,we report flexible films of polycarbonate/single-walled carbon nanotube(PC/SWCNT)composites with improved trade-off between TE and mechanical performances.The SWCNTs with 1D nanostructure were dramatically aligned by PC melt-flowing under hot-pressing in the radial direction.The composite maximum power factor reaches 4.8±0.8μW m^(−1) K^(−2) at 10 wt%SWCNTs in the aligned direction,which is higher than most previously reported thermoplastics-based TE composites at the same SWCNT loading and even comparable to some intrinsically CPs and their composites.In addition,these composites display significantly higher tensile modulus and strength than CPs and their composites.This study paves an effective way to fabricate flexible films of polymer composites with simultaneously high TE and mechanical performances via judicious alignment of SWCNTs in thermoplastic polymers. | Yichuan Zhang Liang Deng Haicai Lv Guangming Chen | 2020 | npj Flexible Electronics2020,4,1: | 3 |
| 3 | Morphological differences in skeletal muscle atrophy of rats with motor nerve and/or sensory nerve injury显示文摘Skeletal muscle atrophy occurs after denervation. The present study dissected the rat left ventral root and dorsal root at L4-6 or the sciatic nerve to establish a model of simple motor nerve injury, sensory nerve injury or mixed nerve injury. Results showed that with prolonged denervation time, rats with simple motor nerve injury, sensory nerve injury or mixed nerve injury exhibited abnormal behavior, reduced wet weight of the left gastrocnemius muscle, decreased diameter and cross-sectional area and altered ultrastructure of muscle cells, as well as decreased cross-sectional area and increased gray scale of the gastrocnemius muscle motor end plate. Moreover, at the same time point, the pathological changes were most severe in mixed nerve injury, followed by simple motor nerve injury, and the changes in simple sensory nerve injury were the mildest. These findings indicate that normal skeletal muscle morphology is maintained by intact innervation. Motor nerve injury resulted in larger damage to skeletal muscle and more severe atrophy than sensory nerve injury. | 4 | Regulating Thermogalvanic Effect and Mechanical Robustness via Redox Ions for Flexible Quasi‑Solid‑State Thermocells显示文摘The design of power supply systems for wearable applications requires both flexibility and durability.Thermoelectrochemical cells(TECs)with large Seebeck coefficient can efficiently convert lowgrade heat into electricity,thus having attracted considerable attention in recent years.Utilizing hydrogel electrolyte essentially addresses the electrolyte leakage and complicated packaging issues existing in conventional liquid-based TECs,which well satisfies the need for flexibility.Whereas,the concern of mechanical robustness to ensure stable energy output remains yet to be addressed.Herein,a flexible quasisolid-state TEC is proposed based on the rational design of a hydrogel electrolyte,of which the thermogalvanic effect and mechanical robustness are simultaneously regulated via the multivalent ions of a redox couple.The introduced redox ions not only endow the hydrogel with excellent heat-to-electricity conversion capability,but also act as ionic crosslinks to afford a dual-crosslinked structure,resulting in reversible bonds for effective energy dissipation.The optimized TEC exhibits a high Seebeck coefficient of 1.43 mV K−1 and a significantly improved fracture toughness of 3555 J m^(−2),thereby can maintain a stable thermoelectrochemical performance against various harsh mechanical stimuli.This study reveals the high potential of the quasi-solid-state TEC as a flexible and durable energy supply system for wearable applications. | Peng Peng Jiaqian Zhou Lirong Liang Xuan Huang Haicai Lv Zhuoxin Liu Guangming Chen | 2022 | Nano-Micro Letters2022,14,5: | 2 |
| 5 | Biotinylated dextran amine anterograde tracing of the canine corticospinal tract显示文摘In this study, biotinylated dextran amine (BDA) was microinjected into the left cortical motor area of the canine brain. Fluorescence microscopy results showed that a large amount of BDA-labeled pyramidal cells were visible in the left cortical motor area after injection. In the left medulla oblongata, the BDA-labeled corticospinal tract was evenly distributed, with green fluorescence that had a clear boundary with the surrounding tissue. The BDA-positive corticospinal tract entered into the right lateral funiculus of the spinal cord and descended into the posterior part of the right lateral funiculus, close to the posterior horn, from cervical to sacral segments. There was a small amount of green fluorescence in the sacral segment. The distribution of BDA labeling in the canine central nervous system was consistent with the course of the corticospinal tract. Fluorescence labeling for BDA gradually diminished with time after injection. | 7 | Estrogen inhibits lipid peroxidation after hypoxic-ischemic brain damage in neonatal rats显示文摘Sprague-Dawley neonatal rats within 7 days after birth were used in this study. The left common carotid artery was occluded and rats were housed in an 8% O2 environment for 2 hours to establish a hypoxic-ischemic brain damage model. 17β-estradiol (1 × 10-5 M) was injected into the rat abdominal cavity after the model was successfully established. The left hemisphere was obtained at 12, 24, 48, 72 hours after operation. Results showed that malondialdehyde content in the left brain of neonatal rats gradually increased as modeling time prolonged, while malondialdehyde content of 17β-estrodial-treated rats significantly declined by 24 hours, reached lowest levels at 48 hours, and then peaked at 72 hours after injury. Nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide phosphate histochemical staining showed the nitric oxide synthase-positive cells and fibers dyed blue/violet and were mainly distributed in the cortex, hippocampus and medial septal nuclei. The number of nitric oxide synthase-positive cells peaked at 48 hours and significantly decreased after 17β-estrodial treatment. Methods: Pathological specimens from 59 gallbladder carcinoma tissues (including 23 invasion tissues), matched 7 para-tumor and 6 normal gallbladder tissues were examined for the expression of KiSS-1 and KAI-1 protein by tissue microarray technique and immunohistochemistry (EnVision). Results: The positive rate of KiSS-1 and KAI-1 was down-regulated (P < 0.05) in tumor tissues, compared with non-tumor tissues. The positive rate of KiSS-1 and KAI-1 were down-regulated (P < 0.01) in invasion tissues, compared with para-tumor tissues. Down-regulating expression levels of KiSS-1 and KAI-1 were significantly correlated with some malignant behavior of gallbladder carcinoma. The positive rate of KiSS-1 and KAI-1 were all negatively correlated with the Nevin staging of gallbladder carcinoma (P < 0.01). Moreover, a strong positive correlation was found between the positive expression of KiSS-1 and KAI-1 in gallbladder carcinoma (P < 0.001). It was indicated that KiSS-1 and KAI-1 were all associated with high metastasis potential of gallbladder carcinoma. Conclusion: KiSS-1 and/or KAI-1 may be important markers of reflecting invasive and metastatic potential and prognosis in gallbladder carcinoma, and may be the target genes to inhibit metastasis of gallbladder carcinoma. | 20 | Construction of a cement-rebar nanoarchitecture for a solution-processed and flexible film of a Bi_(2)Te_(3)/CNT hybrid toward low thermal conductivity and high thermoelectric performance显示文摘Solution processability and flexibility still remain major challenges for many thermoelectric(TE)materials,including bismuth telluride(Bi_(2)Te_(3)),a typical and commercially available TE material.Here,we report a new solutionprocessed method to prepare a flexible film of a Bi_(2)Te_(3)/single-walled carbon nanotube(SWCNT)hybrid,where the dissolved Bi_(2)Te_(3) ion precursors are mixed with dispersed SWCNTs in solution and recrystallized on the SWCNT surfaces to form a“cement-rebar”-like architecture.The hybrid film shows an n-type characteristic,with a stable Seebeck coefficient of^(−1)00.00±1.69μVK^(−1) in air.Furthermore,an extremely low in-plane thermal conductivity of∼0.33Wm^(−1) K^(−1) is achieved at 300 K,and the figure of merit(ZT)reaches 0.47±0.02.In addition,the TE performance is independent of mechanical bending.The unique“cement-rebar”-like architecture is believed to be responsible for the excellent TE performances and the high flexibility.The results provide a new avenue for the fabrication of solution-processable and flexible TE hybrid films and will speed up the applications of flexible electronics and energy conversion. | Zhijun Chen Haicai Lv Qichun Zhang Hanfu Wang Guangming Chen | 2022 | Carbon Energy2022,4,1: | 0 |
