A Deep Learning Method for Bias Correction of ECMWF 24–240 h Forecasts显示文摘Correcting the forecast bias of numerical weather prediction models is important for severe weather warnings. The refined grid forecast requires direct correction on gridded forecast products,as opposed to correcting forecast data only at individual weather stations. In this study,a deep learning method called CU-net is proposed to correct the gridded forecasts of four weather variables from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast Integrated Forecasting System global model(ECMWF-IFS): 2-m temperature,2-m relative humidity,10-m wind speed, and 10-m wind direction, with a forecast lead time of 24 h to 240 h in North China.First, the forecast correction problem is transformed into an image-toimage translation problem in deep learning under the CU-net architecture, which is based on convolutional neural networks.Second, the ECMWF-IFS forecasts and ECMWF reanalysis data(ERA5) from 2005 to 2018 are used as training, validation, and testing datasets. The predictors and labels(ground truth) of the model are created using the ECMWF-IFS and ERA5,respectively.Finally,the correction performance of CU-net is compared with a conventional method, anomaly numerical correction with observations(ANO).Results show that forecasts from CU-net have lower root mean square error, bias, mean absolute error, and higher correlation coefficient than those from ANO for all forecast lead times from 24 h to 240 h.CU-net improves upon the ECMWF-IFS forecast for all four weather variables in terms of the above evaluation metrics, whereas ANO improves upon ECMWF-IFS performance only for 2-m temperature and relative humidity. For the correction of the 10-m wind direction forecast, which is often difficult to achieve,CU-net also improves the correction performance. | Lei HAN Mingxuan CHEN Kangkai CHEN Haonan CHEN Yanbiao ZHANG Bing LU Linye SONG Rui QIN | 2021 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2021,38,9: | 15

Acousto-optic tunable ultrafast laser with vector-mode-coupling-induced polarization conversion显示文摘Acousto-optic interactions, employed in the ultrafast laser regulation, possess remarkable advantages for fast tuning performance in a wide spectral range. Here, we propose an ultrafast fiber laser whose wideband tunability is provided by an acousto-optic structure fabricated with an etched single-mode fiber. Because of the laser polarization conversion induced by the coupling between the core and cladding vector modes in the etched fiber,a band-pass characteristic of the acousto-optic interaction is achieved to effectively regulate the inner-cavity gain range. Cooperating with a saturable absorber based on single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with polarization robustness,a soliton operating state is achieved in the tunable erbium-doped fiber laser.By controlling the acoustical wave frequency from 1.039 to 1.069 MHz, this soliton laser can be conveniently tuned in a wide spectral range from 1571.52 to 1539.26nm.Meanwhile, the laser pulses have near-transform-limited durations stably maintaining less than 2 ps at different wavelength channels, owing to the broadband nonlinear absorption of SWCNTs. | Yujia Li Ligang Huang Haonan Han Lei Gao Yulong Cao Yuan Gong Wending Zhang Feng Gao Iroegbu Paul Ikechukwu Tao Zhu | 2019 | Photonics Research2019,7,7: | 0
Carbon-coated Ni-Co alloy catalysts:preparation and performance for in-situ aqueous phase hydrodeoxygenation of methyl palmitate to hydrocarbons using methanol as the hydrogen donor显示文摘Carbon-coated Ni,Co and Ni-Co alloy catalysts were prepared by the carbonization of the metal doped resorcinol-formaldehyde resins synthesized by the one-pot extended Stöber method. It was found that the introduction of Co remarkably reduced the carbon microsphere size. The metallic Ni,Co,and Ni-Co alloy particles(mainly 10-12 nm)were uniformly distributed in carbon microspheres.A charge transfer from Ni to Co appeared in the Ni-Co alloy.Compared with those of metallic Ni and Co,the d-band center of the Ni-Co alloy shifted away from and toward the Fermi level, respectively. In the in-situ aqueous phase hydrodeoxygenation of methyl palmitate with methanol as the hydrogen donor at 330℃,the decarbonylation/decarboxylation pathway dominated on all catalysts. The Ni-Co@C catalysts gave higher activity than the Ni@C and Co@C catalysts, and the yields of n-pentadecane and n-C6-n-C16 reached 71.6%and 92.6%,respectively.The excellent performance of Ni-Co@C is attributed to the electronic interactions between Ni and Co and the small carbon microspheres.Due to the confinement effect of carbon, the metal particles showed high resistance to sintering under harsh hydrothermal conditions.Catalyst deactivation is due to the carbonaceous deposition, and the regeneration with CO_(2) recovered the catalyst reactivity. | Yinteng Shi Lin Ai Haonan Shi Xiaoyu Gu Yujun Han Jixiang Chen | 2022 | Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering2022,16,4: | 0
Feasibility and physics potential of detecting ^(8)B solar neutrinos at JUNO显示文摘The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory(JUNO)features a 20 kt multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator sphere as its main detector. Some of JUNO's features make it an excellent location for^8B solar neutrino measurements, such as its low-energy threshold, high energy resolution compared with water Cherenkov detectors, and much larger target mass compared with previous liquid scintillator detectors. In this paper,we present a comprehensive assessment of JUNO's potential for detecting^8B solar neutrinos via the neutrino-electron elastic scattering process.A reduced 2 MeV threshold for the recoil electron energy is found to be achievable, assuming that the intrinsic radioactive background^(238)U and^(232)Th in the liquid scintillator can be controlled to 10^(-17)g/g.With ten years of data acquisition, approximately 60,000 signal and 30,000 background events are expected. This large sample will enable an examination of the distortion of the recoil electron spectrum that is dominated by the neutrino flavor transformation in the dense solar matter, which will shed new light on the inconsistency between the measured electron spectra and the predictions of the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework.IfDelta m^(2)_(21)=4.8times10^(-5);(7.5times10^(-5))eV^(2),JUNO can provide evidence of neutrino oscillation in the Earth at approximately the 3sigma(2sigma)level by measuring the non-zero signal rate variation with respect to the solar zenith angle. Moreover,JUNO can simultaneously measureDelta m^2_(21)using^8B solar neutrinos to a precision of 20% or better, depending on the central value, and to sub-percent precision using reactor antineutrinos.A comparison of these two measurements from the same detector will help understand the current mild inconsistency between the value of Delta m^2_(21)reported by solar neutrino experiments and the KamLAND experiment. | 6 | Identification of Novel Bartonella washoensis Sequence Type 22 in Marmota himalayana-Jiuquan City,Gansu Province,China,2021–2022显示文摘Summary What is already known about this topic? The prevalence of rodent-adapted Bartonella species has been increasing significantly. However, the specific Bartonella species carried by Marmota himalayana(M.himalayana),a large rodent species, and the potential risk it poses to human populations remain unknown. What is added by this report?Bartonella washoensis(B.washoensis),associated with human endocarditis, was initially identified in M.himalayana, exhibiting a detection rate of approximately one-third and demonstrating a predilection for the heart and lungs. The discovery of the novel Sequence Type 22 has expanded both the isolation source and genetic lineage of B.washoensis.What are the implications for public health practice?Individuals residing within the M.himalayana plague focus are at an elevated risk for B.washoensis infection.Consequently, there is a pressing need for public health warnings and efficient clinical case identification in this population. | Ran Duan Xiaojin Zheng Qun Duan Asaiti Bukai Peng Zhang Shuai Qin Xinmin Lu Dongyue Lyu Haonan Han Dan Zhang Zhaokai He Junrong Liang Deming Tang Jinxiao Xi Huaiqi Jing Xin Wang | 2023 | China CDC weekly2023,5,20: | 0
Analysis of pollutant removal effect usinginnovative ridge-shaped constructed wetland显示文摘In this paper,a new type of ridge-shaped constructed wetland which combines surface flow and horizontal subsurface flow was proposed. The proposed wetland had simple structure, low construction and operating cost, less human interference and good pollution removal effect. The combination of surface flow and subsurface flow provided an aerobic and anaerobic alternating environment for the entire wetland. The performance of the proposed wetland was compared with a traditional horizontal subsurface flow wetland. The comparison results showed that the removal rates of BOD(biochemical oxygen demand),TN(total nitrogen),and TP(total phosphorus)in the ridge-shaped wetland increased up to 20.3%,17.0%,and 9.1%,respectively.The proposed wetland structure could be widely applied for treatment of rural and urban domestic sewage pollution or agricultural point and nonpoint source water pollution. | CHU Pingping HAN Yancheng EASA SAID M ZHANG Haonan LIANG Mengyuan WANG Yuelei | 2020 | 南水北调与水利科技(中英文)2020,18,2: | 0
How topography and neighbor shape the fate of trees in subtropical forest restoration:Environmental filtering and resource competition drive natural regeneration显示文摘The structure of plant communities at local scales depends on both the spatial heterogeneity of abiotic environmental factors and the biotic interactions within the community. However, although environmental filtering due to microtopographic heterogeneity and resource competition among plants caused by spatial variation in tree density and size are considered to be very important in explaining the mechanisms of community assembly, their effects on the processes of individual mortality and recruitment in natural forest regeneration,as well as their relative contributions, are still poorly understood. To address this,we established a 12-ha permanent plot in a subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest area and measured microtopographic variables such as elevation, slope, aspect, and terrain position index(TPI)using a total station. We monitored the individual mortality and recruitment in forest natural regeneration through repeated surveys at 5-year intervals. We fitted spatial covariance models to jointly use multiple factors from three groups of variables(microtopographic effect, neighborhood density effects, neighborhood size effects)as explanatory variables to analyze their roles in driving the mortality and recruitment of all individual and 12 dominant species in forest natural regeneration at the neighborhood scale. Our results show that:(1)In the crucial early stages of secondary forest restoration, natural regeneration is influenced by a synergy of environmental filtering, due to microtopographic heterogeneity, and resource competition among plants.(2)For distinct species responses, evergreen dominant species'mortality is largely explained by neighborhood effects, while deciduous species are more affected by topographic factors.Furthermore, the adverse effects of larger conspecific trees on younger trees indicate a pattern of competitive pressure leading to mortality among regenerating trees, such pattern emphasis the influence of parent trees on natural regeneration.(3)As trees grow, their interaction with these stressors evolves, suggesting a shift in their resource acquisition strategies and response to neighborhood effects and environmental factors.Despite these changes, the relative importance of topographic factors in determining survival and recruitment success remains constant. This research highlights the importance of considering both environmental and neighborhood effects in forest management, particularly in early secondary forest restoration. | Haonan Zhang Xingshuo Zhang Yingying Lv Yanyan Ni Baokun Xu Xiangnan Han Xiao Cao Qingpei Yang Wanggu Xu Zhedong Qian | 2024 | Forest Ecosystems2024,11,1: | 0
Alternative splicing of a carboxyl/choline esterase gene enhances the fenpropathrin tolerance of Tetranychus cinnabarinus显示文摘Detoxification plays a crucial role in agricultural pests to withstand pesticides, and cytochrome P450s,carboxyl/choline esterases(CCEs),and glutathione-S-transferases are the main proteins responsible for their detoxification ability. The activity of CCEs can be upregulated, downregulated,or modified by mutation. However, few studies have examined the role of alternative splicing in altering the properties of CCEs.We identified 2 variants of TcCCE23 in Tetranychus cinnabarinus:a long version(CCE23-V1)and a short version that is 18 nucleotides shorter than CCE23-V1(CCE23-V2).Whether splicing affects the activity of TcCCE23 remains unclear.Overexpression of CCE23-V2 in fenpropathrin-resistant T.cinnabarinus revealed that splicing affected the detoxification of fenpropathrin by CCE23-V2.The mortality of mites was significantly higher when the expression of CCE23-V2 was knocked down(43.2%±3.3%)via injection of CCE23-dsRNA(double-stranded RNA)compared with the control group injected with green fluorescent protein-dsRNA under fenpropathrin exposure;however, the downregulation of CCE23-V1(61.3%±6.3%)by CCE23-small interfering RNA had no such effect, indicating CCE23-V2 plays a greater role in xenobiotic metabolism than CCE23-V1.The tolerance of flies overexpressing CCE23-V2 to fenpropathrin(50%lethal dose[LD_(50)]=19.47μg/g)was significantly higher than that of Gal4/UAS-CCE23-V1 transgenic flies(LD_(50)=13.11μg/g).Molecular docking analysis showed that splicing opened a“gate”that enlarges the substrate binding cavity of CCE23-V2,might enhance the ability of CCE23-V2 to harbor fenpropathrin molecules. These findings suggest that splicing might enhance the detoxifying capability of TcCCE23.Generally,our data improve the understanding of the diversity and complexity of the mechanisms underlying the regulation of CCEs. | Peng Wei Xinying Zeng Haonan Han Yiqing Yang Youjun Zhang Lin He | 2023 | Insect Science2023,30,5: | 0
